on Temptation by minette
Some of the vocal phrases within this piece are just magic...beautifully poised with real presence...possibly because of the cinematic connotations I can see a mid point where the singing fades and the music swells for a bar or two..however this is in no way a criticism,I was getting swept along with the music and adapting it to an imaginary film....extraordinary! cheers planet :)

hey planet... let me kick off by saying - without your loops, some of my tunes would have never seen the light of day. i LOVE your stuff... and now a comment from you. :) made my day. so glad you enjoyed the track, and thanks for the idea of putting a break in the middle. maybe i'll do an extended "extra-cinematic" version of the tune. Hmmmm... i can hear it in my head already

on Woa by TheChrysalids
Interesting..it's way different in some regards to what I thought was going to happen!...but 10/10 for being inventive....You can record your voice and play it chromatically with a keyboard,go crazy and freestyle every which way,but anything you do with it is always going to be interesting...I'd explore this style a bit more,no one else seems to be doing it!..cheers planet :)

on Boolean Sequenced Karplus Strong 1 by Inventor
Hi Inventor..and welcome to looperman!...interesting sounds, what are you using as a controller? sounds like a rotary device,as opposed to a keyboard with octaves, there's a couple of circuit benders on the Loop,SpivCurl to name one...I've always found electronics interesting but only profess to know a little guitar circuitry and basic amplifier maintenance...behind every inventor lies an inquiring mind and untold projects I'm sure...nice to have you aboard!..cheers planet :)
Inventor
Inventor replied Unknown
planet, the controller is a Boolean Sequencer, which is a clocked binary counter driving logic into a resistive summing network. I know, technobabble, but that's what it is. I can explain further if you're interested and ty for your comments.

on Butterfly Opens - Titanium Handles Lock Fast by n0mad23
Somebodies been smoking a block then rewriting 'Goldfinger" (well a hint of the intro anyway! lol)..Jeez where do I start..I must say this is in the 'slot' rhythmically with that smoker friendly 'riddim' Jah is always on about...it's got too much Detroit chrome in it (as in steel electric) to be solid reggae-tronic...which is fine with me,I like crossover music to be self sustaining and not plagiaristic..I must take issue with you in using rooks crowing..I just did that! lol and I'm sure our lawyers will be fighting over it for years...I like the way your music is going Sean..it's like a woman who has a voluptuous figure but wears a one piece bathing suit..sophisticated and infinitely more sexy than a blatant display ala Bikini....Brilliant track!..cheers Dave :)..as an anecdote...hashish was always my preferred smoke..especially Chitrally Gold
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
I think this is now my all time favorite review! I love your analogy about a voluptuous woman in a one piece - brilliant and absolutely true. I think you're right about this one having feet in both worlds, too (not solid reggae) which for me is a sign of success. I'm afraid no hashish was abused in the making of this track (lol) but it certainly does burn the nose similarly if not carefully ingested. Cheers my friend!

There's seems to be an over long delay before the track starts..a very Noir trance like sound which is very interesting and fits in well with the Dracula theme..great synth sounds and the track has good continuity...nice one! ..cheers planet :)

on ELECKTRON by siensystem
Hey Sien.....Trancelvanian big time..this track has excellent breakouts and layers..man this music would have been near impossible before sequencing and drum machines..drummers would have coronaries trying to keep up!...not to mention poor bass players wearing their fingers down to the bone...love that velvety synth in the later half...a very cool track....as to the levels their fine but I don't envy your mixing task here... Trance is probably one of the most difficult styles to get perfectly right, there are so many layers and frequency crossovers.... a lot of tweaking that's for sure!..super work..cheers Dave :)

siensystem replied Unknown
Thanks planet and I completely agree. I can't imagine myself playing any of the instruments in this track, except maybe the clap lol. I greatly appreciate your visit and your kind words.

on when the weasels by zed
Hey MrZed...very cool indeed!..great continuity happening here, there's an excellent balance between your voice (thank God no autotune!)and the modulation within the music, which is upbeat and catchy..not to draw comparisons but it sounds like Frank Zappa joined Fireside Theatre..a cool combo Imo....the mix is very good as well..you've obviously been round the musical block a few times and are completely at ease with your creativity....super work!..cheers planet
zed
zed replied Unknown
very perceptive to mention firesign theatre, pioneers of surreal humor, a big influence. i don't mind being compared to zappa either, he is respected even among classical composers. both are from LA of course. you are hip to where i am coming from my friend & that is why your review is so satisfying. i communicated, yay!

on Death by Synthesizer by DeadPixel
Hey man..way different groove..heavy but funky..you gotta love the time signature, gives it a rolling slightly staccato feel...this would be an excellent track to use with some inventive time lapse photography....seeing as how this is a rolling expressive number maybe an abrupt element like an explosion or lingering heavy impact would be perfect for the final ending, just a thought...cool stuff..cheers planet :)

on drops by rei4real
Hey Rie...I remember the first version..man this track has changed..I liked the first version..but this has more...hmmm...BEEF!...superb articulation between the guitar and bass/rhythm line...you've been honing your keyboard skills I see as well...an excellent track from any direction...I also think one element of your music goes unsaid a lot of the time and that is it's universal appeal which undoubtedly inspires a lot of people to bigger and broader horizons in their own music..Viva rei!...cheers Dave :)
rei4real
rei4real replied Unknown
thank you Dave!!!
maybe that universal appeal you mentioned comes from my open mind and my way to listen to all music that I come across ... I played a lot of different music in my life, from classical to austrian folk music, pop and rock to jazz, I sang in different choirs ... and I loved everything I did ...
I guess you have similar experiences, that's why you are able to notice that ... ;-)
thank you again Dave!!!

peace, rei

Yeah! Rei has hit the nail on the head...super interesting perspectives brought forward through your playing..the 'thud' factor is alive and well..and in this case it's very articulate and very focused....I think the inherent imagery behind what your doing is a great asset to the music..I love vision..and your serving it up big time..great work! cheers planet :)

on Before the Storm (LE) by Obruno
Man....I can hear some alchemy going on here..this has amazing sonic trajectories..very amorphous, but with real control and a visual direction..to use a euphemism from today's contemporary culture..the peddle work is 'sick'! lol...this music has sounds between the sounds...gotta be a certain amount of Zen in there as well...very cool Obruno!..cheers planet :)

on My blues; Jump the Q by SLAPJOHNSON
Man..I was wondering how your old tunes stacked up against your recent stuff..how in the hell did I ever miss this track!..Bloody hell, this is great stuff Steve..you had it then, you've got it now...the only thing I'd say is lately your showing more bias towards your true calling which is Jazz...you play with confidence and style and never disappoint....fantastic singing I might add by Fiona....love it..cheers Dave :)

on BILBOZO - MY CORONA by Bilbozo
Haha..you had me worried for half a second there in the intro..I thought...Oh no Bill's not going to cover this relic is he,lol......Sweeeeet! groove man..this is one of the tightest productions you've made of late (if it's at all possible to improve on your other productions..which I doubt)..I love the melding of the nylon and electric steel string guitars,it gives such an organic feel to the whole arrangement..the bass playing is top notch to...a fantastic Latino ride with all the rich overtones and nuances one comes to expect from the premier guitar slinger that is Bilbozo..you'd look at home in a Stevie Ray Vaughan black hat!...cheers Dave

on Tanelorn by jfw
Very chromatic..this is a very cool piece..very clean..reminiscent of many things..quite visual..I think what I really dig about this track is the inherent silence between the notes, there's no background ambience and this gives it a pristine quality, add to that a very straight uncomplicated rhythmic beat and the result is quite remarkable and interesting...tres cool!

Now I know where all the guys went that used to produce the Twilight Zone..definitely required playing on the tape machine during filming of Creature from the Black Lagoon!....man(men)this is very very cool..a virtual test tube moment in audio production.....aahh this would be great in my favourite cheesy scifi flick Forbidden Planet..when the Brain expander machine fires up....music that ceases to be music and replicates itself ...this is a new Viric...you guys better think of an antidote before you try something new!....super result..quite infectious..cheers Dave :)
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
This would MAKE a cheesy sci-fi flick happen! lol. I love your test tube invocation - though it's primarily and authentically Ambiance, we've definitely pushed it deep into the territory of Experimental music. "Music that ceases to be music and replicates itself" - yeah! Cheers for that. Music inspired by the transcription of RNA. No antidote in sight, but lots of temptation to experiment some more! Thanks Dave.
