Space cowboy music!..I see a big sparkly Stetson with flashing lights!lol...great gritty chuggin tune mate..bloody good singing as well!...I dig this tune, solid bassline, good riffin and up there vocals....ticks all my R&R boxes!...cheers Planet :)
Thank you very much, pjb. The new telecaster brings out another kind of music than the strat, that's for sure. I'm very grateful for your kind words, thanks again.
Hey Toonz..I dig the "Thud" factor in this track, hits you from the very start, but it's not overdone and there's plenty of transitions to give a strong progressive feel to the composition, nice keys!very well articulated,it all clicks.....Cool House! cheers Dave :)
The F train just pulled in...Fila, man this is a way cool groove!(and contagiously funky!)...you've got this great bass feel, then the organ, guitar and drums spin it up to full steam...excellent elements that just go so well together, there's no partitioning or stray lambs in this music,no side tracks..just one homogeneous unit that pumps along.....Fantastic work!..cheers Dave :)
Total blue note vibe..man if Mel Torme' sung on this you'd have The Velvet Fog playing through a Blue Haze!...I just love the blues when played with tone and feeling like this, where it's flowing and oozing with authentic musical projection.....there's Blues, then there's real blues...though the later comes in many shapes and sizes it all has one thing in common, you don't learn it so much as earn it,and this track has an impeccable pedigree...Bilbozo and Slapjohnson...doesn't come any better!...cheers Dave :)
Now this music should have been the theme for 20 Million Years B.C.(the film staring Raquel Welch...pant,pant,drool)...just an abstract thought,sorry.....Ohh,I like the squeezing guitar tone and volume swells...Jimi and Robin Trower eat your heart out!lol...I listened to your coolab(as opposed to collab) with Twanna the other day (left a review on her page)and was blown away..I mean I wasn't expecting anything less from someone with her musical pedigree...this is a great track and it's remiss of me not to mention the other collaborators MStokes and Tumbleweed(yay guys!)...man there's definitely a snakeskin element to your playing with some serious juju in the mix, very evocative and spaced out...when will the younger generation figure out that you have to be seriously straight headed to get seriously bent musically! lol...love it! cheers Dave :)
Hey Dave!
Thank you for stopping by,it's good to see old friends back on the Loop and by "old" I mean since the old site went down,I am embracing turning 48 on Dec 5th...well..cause I can't do anything about it anyway lol.
Seriously,I think what I like at this age musically and personally is that I feel comfortable in my skin, not that I don't want to push any musical boundaries or limits,I just feel that not having to prove myself or compete is a sweet spot after 38 years of playing.
I'm happy to make music that makes me happy and to share it with our community,if a few other artists here like some of it then I'm very pleased and life is good.
With collaborations,it's a win win!
Ahhh...Raquel wearing a little bit of animal skin...now that's the kind of skin I would definitely be comfortable in.
Oh...you reviewed the track...(my mind also wandered)
MStokes built the frame and I tried to fill it in with something that would complement. These were my "first impression" guitar tracks and I wanted to go back and try a few different things later, which I did but I got further from the feel of his track and went back to this.I do that often and as a musician yourself you know how that can be,sometimes your first idea is best.Mike had this up for a while and I felt it needed a little makeover and as soon as I decided on an intro I found Tumbleweeds track, which is great if you haven't heard it.
What can I say about Twanna except she's awesome!I don't think everyone realizes that she does all the production, even on my guitar.I send her tracks with just a little delay(for myself)and she does the rest.
I'm lovin' collaborating with her Dave. You just play to a track, send it to her, drink a few beers and like magic...you wake up and a song appears in your email..lol,now that's cool;)
WHOA!..this is some damn fine spacey funk, very fluid...superb pulsing groove with lots of very cool peripheral artifacts, this music just breathes so well..Allen nails that spaced out riffing, that dude can play!...You've drawn a line in the groovyverse here that separates yet hybridizes so many elements..funk,reggae,soul,rock and gospel.....your a literal music distillery...one word...Potent!(100% proof) cheers Dave :)
Hey Dave...so appreciate your comment. I am really glad to see that those who hear my music get what I set out to do, which is to prove that music is music, regardless of the genre. You can mix it up and start a new genre like I did..FONK...with an "O" :)
Cool rocking dudes!...got that hot shuffle beat that makes people get up and dance!..I really dig the vocals on this one man...smooth and with a smokey cool vibe..rock on! diggin it!
cheers Dave :)
Ahhh Simon....this is great!....you've got this inherently peaceful aspect to your musical touch...must have something to do with being a parent(of girls!).....Or maybe your a therapist in disguise! lol....feels like I just walked through a spring shower on the shores of Lake Geneva (sorry for the analogous reference mate,it's the only Swiss lake that comes to mind, lol)
I especially love the minimalist bass line here, when juxtaposed on those tinkling strings it's better than perfect....beautiful piece of work mate! cheers Dave :)
No Guitar?...hehe, I can dig it....no one said you have to be chained to your axe..(though I bet you sleep with it occasionally!)....I'm detecting a signature Rei keyboard style though...and a throughly throbtastic bass line!...Very cool big sound and I love Effluence's vocals(super presence)......You got that post Thomas Dolby EuroFunkDiscofrankenspurter sound going on man! lol......I dig it mucho mowcho...cheers Dave
ThomasDolbyEuroFunkDiscofrankespurter sound ... awesome ... for me that's the word of the year!!!
and how can you know that thing with the guitar? that's a secret ... ;-)
maybe you're right with with the keyboard style, thinking about it I listened to some other tracks of me, and I really found similar forms in my playing ... interesting ... I wasn't aware of it ... but that's just me I guess, I never thought "I want to sound like ....", I always just played sounds (on both, guitar and keys) and looked if the sound is telling me something, if there was a response, I wrote a song ... that's the whole secret ... haha
Hey Jimmy...this is some wicked work in the throb zone mate!...Man this song totally personifies a great mix and groove within the new big world bass territories(Texas radio and the big beat!lol)....when you have huge emphasis on the bass the upper register frequencies only need a little nudge to be heard and Gently Bentley is the order of the day...next time I hear someone with a muddy mix I'm going to send em over to listen to this...an excellent composition with real presence and pro feel....way good! cheers Dave
Big textures!...with very interesting sounds,it's very 'folded' musically....very spaced out!..I'm an Ableton 8 user so I can appreciate your work flow dynamics...I dig this track and I'd like to give my appraisal on the mix (not to be confused with criticism!).This soundscape is huge! and at times a bit overwhelming frequency wise,I think the separate elements sometimes(apart from the bass line) need to more segregated with different reverb models giving them a more transitional presentation and also increasing your fades feature within the arrangement view as they swell and recede across the composition.....great creative work nontheless,it's an audio monster!..cheers Dave
yeah ...I think I will do a little playing with this in the coming days... I am rocking the idea of differing the reverb fields... thanks for taking the time brother..
Now I know this song pretty well and I've got to say this is a great interpretation...very different, very original..tons of reverb, but I think that adds to the uniqueness and lets all those vocal layers intermesh in a dervish like fashion.....great vocal talent mixed with Nuada's coolness....excellent!
cheers Planet
Ahh..like this one!...It's interesting,in the scheme of things I'm a relative new comer to Hip Hop,I learn something everytime I listen to it....I dig the space around the vocals and the siren motif, the emphasis shifts from vocal performance to bass line to melody and back again, all without loosing that urban supreme prerequisite...flow! lol...great stuff men,I enjoyed it!
cheers Planet
Ok..I'm game, seems like a fair request...but don't feel obligated to return the favor,I don't roll that way...Straight out I don't like the intro..it's too long and tentative without getting anywhere,I'm saying this because people have a short attention span...However once you get into the groove proper...I dig it!..plenty of substance happening here with a nice flow to the mixups and drops....this will be a great vehicle for a rapper,it's got that ebb and flow which Imo is critical for a successful beat....cheers Planet
Hey there WeaverBard....I love listening to work that has come straight from the composer...unadulterated and without premeditation!lol ..there's some superb shades here and the melancholic feeling is strong throughout,a seasonal piece...the Brass and Strings work so well together..I don't know if I'm enjoying more the fact that I've found a Classicist here on looperman or the composition itself....You and Scriptique (alas she seldom appears now)would hit it off together no doubt...Excellent! cheers Planet
Progressive..that's the first thought that comes to mind....I really dig this....the music is the left hand, the flow is the right..a very cool balance....There's nothing wrong with the Old School sound I keep hearing about (values?) but that's in the past whereas this sound is moving forwards with a style that's progressive and experienced...I'm not surprised that your happy with it Conan,I'm thinking that your starting to plumb the depths of the essential musician that we all posses...the trick is finding it......Vizun's vocals are full of integrity, the prime ingredient of attitude...cheers Dave
Hey Mariah...first time listener but not a last time...Fantastic voice, wow!you really project into the whole performance...love the timbre and control..a heartfelt production that's quite inspiring along with Proxy's cool instrumentation...Excellent work!...cheers Planet :)
Hey there MsPixieB....There's a lot of different punters out there making music...there's the one's that try and fake it then there's the one's that plagiarize until they become clones..then there's the people that 'have it'....that amorphous something be it talent, truth, wackiness or whatever..you definitely have it!..takes me back to a time when music was there to be enjoyed without having to cross reference and hire an interpreter....I like!...cheers Planet :)
Hmmm..you ain't no one hit wonder that's for sure..somewhere along the line you've been blessed I think..this is great music!..I'm guessing you haven't been spending your time hiding underground until someone with a talent Geiger counter walked by and the machine went BING!....it's a bit embarrassing laying on heavy praise..but you are totally top shelf material....superb!
cheers Planet
Hi Mizmee..my first exposure to your material....I think I've been irradiated!lol..well you do have a radiant voice...Wow,a real eye opener, the music and mix are great and more importantly they support superbly the vocal performance..and what a voice!..super impressive..poise,sustain,pitch control and above all feeling...without trying to sound too ingratiating you just won yourself a new fan...excellonto on all counts..cheers Planet :)
Hey Ern..saw the Eman on the loop..seems like ages since I've checked your material..I think the verboten zone around you has evaporated don't you think(if there ever was one,but you know what I mean)....cool groove with plenty of MrE present, but then it would be wouldn't it! lol...cheers mate Dave
never really felt it.ive kept in touch with a whole bunch of people from the loop on facebook. ive made a concious effort(really no effort at all) to stay away from the loop until recently.too much sunshime too enjoy out there ...anyway thx for the review dave
Cool vibes man, great keys...love that beat,it's way out there..right on the peripheral side of things..Slow grooves are great and very difficult to get right,a lot of players think their easy until they get out there in the wide open spaces of the groove..and think "sh!t my pants have fallen down!" hehe..excellent piece of work, spacious and visual..cheers Dave
Hey Bud..Damn man I'm sitting inside the bass drum tripping almost!...reminicent of the more melodic offering from Captain Beefheart..Jeez mate, you can really get inside this music or it gets inside you...totally in your face but from the vibration and offbeat side of things...very much "Head" music..back in the day I'd be toked up while listening to this and say "yeah put that back on for sure!" lol..love this stuff, major thumbs up to Scott,Chris and yourself...cheers Dave
Ahhh....Detlef the Monk, somehow I can't see you taking any vows of celibacy! lol..I really dig this man..it shifts into an ethereal electric groove, you always place your guitar sound so well within your tunes, your a one man Pink Floyd (but better!)...your music is always very inspirational....thanks for the great music my friend!...cheers Dave :)
Hi Dave
There are far too many influences that have a similar structure.
To organize them and to add together is the art of creating a composition
