I salute you*, good sir.

I have listened again and can confirm that your acidic hound isn't incongruous in this track. It fits perfectly and isn't out of place in a track featuring various other creative sounds. It's just incongruous for you as I'm not sure you even listen to any music containing such sounds. They are common in the kind of genres you don't listen to ie electronic/dance kinda stuff.

You're making the flute and marimba a bit of your own kind of sound, as you did a while ago with the piano. I guess that will make a reappearance sometime - it's been a while.

"I'll give it a shot."

I'm sure you're already halfway there, living on a prayer.

This is quite possibly your best track since Hunting For Gatherers.

Yes, I do take definite pride (no '-fulness' required, that's wrong) in the wife-waking goodbye. I've recently written a list of about 15 "later...-er" rhyming goodbyes specifically to be used in conversation with you and that one was at the top of the list as I felt it was the strongest.

I seem to recall you mentioning something about your wife having to get up very early. When I came up with "later...waker", I needed someone/thing for you to wake. I guess it could have been a vomit-stained homeless dude on the sidewalk (known as 'the pavement' in the UK) but the wife thing seemed more fun.

Note how I didn't suggest that the tasty breakfast you make consists of either Dick Pie or Balls Pudding. That would be wholly inappropriate to even mention on a public forum to someone you've never met.

"Seacrest, out."

As hard as I try, I cannot figure that one out.

Later, elaborate suicide faker.

*So hard I knocked myself out, woke up a while later with some temporary brain damage and started writing this foolish greeting explanation.

Greetings, recipient of pleasant self-beatings.

"I'm not sure you even listen to any music containing such sounds."

Not really. I'd say 1/5 of what I listen to has any obvious synth in it. I could do a lot more with it. There is no automation at all. All velocity changes. I own no music that is all synth instruments. I don't dance, so all club-like music is pretty annoying to me.

"I'm sure you're already halfway there, living on a prayer."

Lets keep that Bon Jovi douche out of this. Nothing pulls my finger toward the station changing buttons faster than Bon Jovi. Maybe Bjork, but how often is she on the radio? Never heard her.

"no '-fulness' required, that's wrong"

Intended to be wrong, but I'll send the editors check in the mail.

"the sidewalk (known as 'the pavement' in the UK)"

We too have pavement. Lots of it.

"Seacrest, out."

Ah, yes. We have a soulless DJ/Host/TV Personality names Ryan Seacrest, who hosts the American Idol show, and has several other air-wave invading ventures. Guy's a total tool and at the end of everything, he says "Seacrest, out.". Makes sense you never heard of him, but since he has a lot to do with music, I thought there was a chance. I know of Jules Holland (misspelled?), but he is MUCH better at his job than Seacrest.

Have a good Tuesday. Wednesday, you're on your own.

Sorry, I know you won't accept it...but I just can't help it... my first impression on this (without reading a single comment prior to listen) was old Jethro Tull and not necessarily because of the flute inclusion...yet that's not the most important...This is a very fine fusion track with apparent retro feel and I enjoyed it immensely ! Danke mentioned tones of good riffs...and rightly so !:) Faved !

Good stuff, Evan. A true fusion piece, here. I'm always surprised when I click on a 'fusion' track and the creator of the track is quite off the mark of what fusion really is. This is an exception authentic FUSION track! Kudos, my friend.

Interesting intro but I think the track really comes alive at the change at 1:03 and then at 1:35 it all seems to come together. Sounds awesome. Really dig it.

A heartfelt hello, Bass Bro.

I am here to offer you objective praise on this obviously nice track bro. Now let me focus...

First guit riff sounds like your kind of style.

0:22 it really comes alive with that mean bass tearing shit up.

Awesome change at 1:03. You've really got the sparser drum groove working well there. Riff over the top has fine timing.

1:14 your acidic hound is good but still surprising and a bit incongruous in one of your tracks. You know I always want you to expand your style and instrumentation. You're doing it here.

This chill grooving section reminds me of me a bit.

1:35 a marimba lead I've heard you use before so you're now making it your own kind of recognisable sound.
Same goes for flute at 2:00. Not a sound I'd use but works well for you.

2:29 pre-badassery, with that arriving fully 10 secs later. It's just a good riff. Some real tight playing in those pull offs. Not sure I could pull that off, so to speak. End section is maybe too short. Drums are spot on and have a vital relationship with that main riff.

I like the idea of Jethro Tool and it makes sense. End section is a bit Tooly though no obvious rip off. I'd try to extend that by 30-odd secs, adding in some other variations to keep shit interesting. How about bringing back your acidic hound there?

Overall: fine stuff that expands your musical style quite a bit.

Later, early morning wife waker and subsequent tasty breakfast maker.

"still surprising and a bit incongruous in one of your tracks."

In a bad way? Is it because you know my music so well that it seems foreign? Or would someone hearing this, who had never heard any of my other stuff, think it doesn't fit in the track? Not offended, just curious. I appreciate your thoughts.

"I'd try to extend that by 30-odd secs, adding in some other variations to keep shit interesting. How about bringing back your acidic hound there?"

I'll give it a shot.

"early morning wife waker and subsequent tasty breakfast maker."

This is beautiful. I hope you had a moment of true "pridefulness" after coming up with that. Cracked me up thinking about it several times yesterday.

Sorry I didn't have much to say about Tesseradecade. You give good, detailed comments about my shit and I feel sometimes I've got nothing to say. I appreciate the help you give.

Hope all is well.

Seacrest, out.

Thought the intro was cool, neat effects on the git. The first part rocks. The first transition into the second slower part, just past 1:00, reminded me of a Jethro Tull styled change. Different instrumentation but your instruments still reflect something they did a lot with tempo changes and dynamics. Same thing with the last change. Drums set the pace and the instruments follow along as far as dynamics.

Maybe Jethro Tool. lol

Well done!

Master Wayne.

"Thought the intro was cool, neat effects on the git."

It's a setting I made on my bass pedal called "Next Room". I don't have ANY guitar effects, so I've not made the greatest tones for guitar, but I work with what I have.

"Jethro Tull styled change."

I've listened to maybe two singles from them and that is it. Shame on me. I've been compared to them, King Crimson and Zappa. Never listened to any of them. I apparently would like it. Been REALLY into Katatonia lately. Their early stuff sucks(screaming doom whatnot) but they went a new direction at some point and became amazing. Viva Emptiness is their best album in my opinion, you know, if you wanted to check them out.

"Maybe Jethro Tool"

I like it. Very clever. You get two punches on your clever card.

Binary regreetings, highly advanced computer software program masquerading online as a real world Missouri bass bro.

Damn, will I ever stop commenting on this track? Only time will tell...

Your new avatar looks good though there's quite a lot of beard and not much hair. It also looks just like Nick Oliveri, another bass player, from Kyuss, QOTSA and other bands. You have been busted, computer software, so next time choose a picture of a less well known closet-dwelling bass player.

"It's the title of a Puscifer song"

Not quite - that's Vagina Mine. I always interpreted that as a variation of "my vagina" rather than the more amusing idea of a vagina miner, like a coal miner (an idea I got from you).

Some of the Puscifer stuff is good, some really isn't. Perhaps my favourite song is The Mission - the one featuring Milla Jovovich, who sounds amazing on it.

Puscifer is a terrible band/project name; quite immature really, as is Cuntry Boner.

In other vag news, I was out kayaking the other day with a friend on a small London river and saw the following graffitti on a bridge:

neo vagina

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Is it what neo Nazis are into? Or is it some sort of advanced, super special designer vagina I haven't come across (haha) just yet?

No, mic still hasn't shown up though I've not been looking for it so that's no surprise.

I'm currently really struggling to do much good in terms of music. Not happy with my playing abilities or sound and feel like I've run out ideas on guitar. I do now have a bow for the cello but haven't started using it yet. I'm busy working on a half decent track merging some dance music you'll hate with some reasonably tasty, funky and mildly badass bass g and guit fiddle riffage.

Track will probably be called Tesseradecade. You would normally not continue listening after 10 secs of that sort of music but, as it's me, you might just give it a chance to see what it develops into (something you'll probably like).

And now I bid you bye bye

Later, anal gyrator...

10001110101--- (not real binary, but the chorus to a "Clutch" song)

"though there's quite a lot of beard and not much hair"

I keep the top cropped short for working outside. Not bald yet, but I do seem to see more forehead than I used to.

" It also looks just like Nick Oliveri, another bass player, from Kyuss, QOTSA and other bands"

Never seen him, but now I'm intrigued. I'll have to google him.

" Perhaps my favourite song is The Mission "

I like that one as well. Took a while to get the lyric "north end guinea". "The Undertaker" is awesome also. My favorite from them is probably "Mama Sed". I love the message. It's how I was spoken to growing up. Life is change, tuck and roll.

"Puscifer is a terrible band/project name"

We have a local-ish band called "Grannies Bathwater". God damn gut-wrenching name, doing "Countrocky" Country-Rock garbage. "Evil Poon" is another that come through often.

"neo vagina"

This is the work of a fucked up pedophile. Disregard and try to forget.

"special designer vagina I haven't come across (haha) just yet? "

By far the funniest pun in the history of Looperman. I laughed so hard I started to cough and nearly fell over. 85 wordsmith points for you, good man.

"I'm currently really struggling to do much good in terms of music. Not happy with my playing abilities or sound and feel like I've run out ideas on guitar."

Try to intentionally NOT sound like yourself. Not anyone else in particular, but only do things you've never done before. A cross between Mindless Self Indulgence, and Bjork.

I've heard of several artists who make up other personas or characters, and do the writing from their perspective.

You could try to do what I've mentioned a few times. Take a specific feeling or situation or incident, and try to express that feeling.

Can you write sad music? Can you translate the feeling of being hurt through music? The great feeling of a big, fat payday? The feeling before you do something dangerous? When I am short on inspiration, that's the kind of stuff I go to. May work for you, may not at all. Just something different, and different is growth if nothing else.

Over and out. Keep your eye out for brown trout as you kayak about.

There is an almost zeppelin (acoustic) like quality to the opening of this. Then it goes into "riverdance" territory...not that's a bad thing. It certainly got my Irish blood boiling for a fight. I like the guitar treatments at 2:00 on. Good use of delay as well. 3:00 on has a repeating synth sound that is cool and dominates the extro until the flanged guitar sayonara!

Nice work overall. made me want to eat some Lucky charms but dammit, I live in Canada and they are not in my local grocery!

"an almost zeppelin...like quality"

That is one of the finest things ever said about one of my measly tracks. Thank you. It's not mandolin, but it's some pretty high acoustic stuff.

"3:00 on has a repeating synth sound"

Those are guitar notes that are processed on my pedal, doubled, then one double was lowered an octave. I like how it worked. I also liked how it sounded reversed in the outro.

No Lucky Charms?!?! That is criminal! Not a huge fan, but liked them when I was a kid. I buy "Total" now, but if I do want something sweet from the kids section, I get "Honeycombs". Loved them since I was a kid,(Thanks to my Great-Grandmother).

Thanks for the listen and the feedback.

hello

I really like the apparent simplicity of this one.
You said earlier that you actually imagine music first, then record it afterwards eventually...
I think that's an excellent way to become so called conscious musician. I am struggling a lot with all this at the moment when trying to internalize new patterns for keyboard improvisation (applying all the creative visualization and all the crap stuff and like)
Writing directly on daw is definitely limited for sure (but much easier) as it forces one to repeat the material too much.
It is a quite simple track but it is very consciously and cleverly directed and delivered!
Nice one.

Best to you,
Alex

"the apparent simplicity of this one.....quite simple track"

I'm curious as to why you say it's simple. All the guitar parts are rather involved, several different parts and layers. I guess it's the layout? Lack of keys and other midi besides strings and flute? Not offended, just curious. I try to make stuff more engaging and not repeating a verse/chorus over and over like 99 percent of mainstream Rock.

Thanks for your feedback. I'll try to keep from giving you a reason to call my music "simple". Gives me a new goal!

Thanks Alex, and take care.

Hey Evan, you had my attention from the gun trying to figure out the only spoken words there at :04. Any significance?
This is a guitar laden classic man. I really enjoyed the Bunnies and Meadows intro-lude. Super job of layering guitars throughout, which you have quite the ability to do and do well. I love the happy guitar in the beginning with some nice accompaniment from bass, the swing drumming and cool orchestration. Very good stuff. You could have made a full track around this. Pretty cool transition at :54 with some sweet fluting and some sound effect that sounds like a bunch of wood hammering. (what is it?) The ensuing groove brings in the sustained guitar(s)the swing drums and some nice acoustic fills. Now I got to tell you at 1:40 when you break off the bass and drums and the strumming uke's come in, I nearly shit. That is F'n cool and very reminiscent of a classic Zepplin track off the ZOSO LP, which is one of my all time faves, "The Battle of Evermore". Dude, you slayed me!
The last bit sounds like an extended ending without ever really establishing a beat. Its cool as it is but you could easily extend the song by bringing in some bass and drums on that for awhile and I'm thinking it would sound pretty good, but that's up to you. All in all I would say this is a pretty epic demonstration of your ability in composition and production. You've got some serious talent bro, and I'm not blowing smoke up your ass. You could do this professionally. There's quite a few on here that could but your definitely one of only a few who work predominately in Rock that just clearly has it.
I hope you do something with it.
Evisma
Evisma replied 1st Aug 2015 - 10 years ago
Yo-Yo,....... Hula-Hoop.

"spoken words there at :04. Any significance?"

It's a chuckle with delay. I guess it would be the word "knee" if it was a word. Not meant to be. Kind of a George W., sneering, ratty type laugh. No significance.

"some sound effect that sounds like a bunch of wood hammering. (what is it?)"

Taiko drum loops. I have a ridiculous library of them, all broken down into their single elements, or together.

"the strumming uke's come in,"

That's my acoustic doing a made-up chord. I'm detuned a half step, playing A-0, D-10, G-9, B-10, E-0. No low E. Then it's a bar across those same strings for the second "chord".

I would probably go for a mandolin over a ukelele. I've looked into it. $400 and I'd be in business.

I think the only thing I will be doing to the second half is getting the second solo eq a bit better. First one sounds better.

I appreciate the kind words. I'm pretty sure I will have to get a SHIT-TON better before a dollar would ever be spent to hear my sound. I like it, and it just keeps coming out, so I gotta do something with it!

Take care, and try to stay in the AC.
