I knew that you, Manu, Rita, as mothers would get the "to hell and back"... in their case, mother and baby genuinely almost didn't make it. The lyrics represent the conversation I had with him (with some tears) but I think many parents will still recognise the feeling.

Sorry to hear about your loss!! Yes music helps us deal with our happy and our sad moments - and sometimes it can make something good come out of a bad situation.
Btw that's a 6 hours trip from where I live to where you live - I can sort of get wanting to distance yourself from London, but holy carp man, that's a lot of distance ;)

The current drums are sort of placeholders in midi. Drums are still my weak point; recording live drums is hard (harder even than playing live drums) and the accoustics in my practice room are absolute horse shizzle, so even with a decent 4 mic setup it still sounds like bleh.

I got an electronic drumset hoping this would make recording easier, but they sound worse, so... I keep trying.

One way that seems to give decent results is to record live drums on a single mic aimed at kick/snare, then enhance them with midi/samples... but this still takes time... and I have too many projects :D (oh, and a full time job and a life of course)

I really appreciate you saying that - I think it has a solid basis, but I also know that a proper producer can do much more with it, and I hear all the little things that Manu and Michael and Nick and everyone else are saying - and also, I do need them to say that, because now it is clearer in my mind what needs to be done about it :)

I know exactly how it is, a) if it's not your own track you don't recognise it and b) often people don't listen to the full track but skip through it. I do the same, but I also try for people I know and respect/admire to listen to the entire track and think of something to help and in fact earlier today I did hear a track that had a similar weird ending ;)
Anyway, not a problem at all, I just thought it was funny - but I'll remove the comment because it sounds like whining ;)

You heard it correctly, it's basically now a series of (my own) loops, and you are absolutely right that it needs to be a bit more complete arrangements, many of them are placeholders for now to get the structure right.
I'm first working on the bass and the drums to give it a bit more solid foundation, then work through the other instruments and especially the vocals.

I actually had to stop and sit down for a moment. That hit me like a hammer, and obviously nothing like it must have hit you.
