I saw this was up and couldn't wait to find the time to give it a good listen. And for sure it was well time infinitely well repaid. I love the pace of this, your vox are top notch, keys are top notch and the guitar just sings. Man you even got some strings in there too! Its a great composition, I know how much work it takes to get something as complex and well considered as this up and running. So well done man, you've done yourself proud.
excellent my friend im really impressed its starting to drop for you, just a little tightening thats all, minor tweaks, i think you'll here it yourself anyway the layout is good. great guitar as i expect, drums are on point too bro keep growing and pushing mate
Such a sweet! intro & then led into more guitar deliciousness, this is really good! work here and I have to say in music creativity is everything I don't think any hard and fast rules need to be followed that's what makes everyone of us unique right? I never follow the crowd I'll be the trend setter for others to follow if anything, but I like what I'm hearing here & I have to agree with our good friend & brother in music Mark, this just needs a little tightening/sharpening up and you'll really have something. The overall idea is absolutely there so if you continue on this trajectory, you'll certainly have a winner! no doubt. I like your voice too. Kudos!
Thank you so much Angie! Your comments always make my day and so do your tracks. It was absolutely lovely to hear your latest one!
BTW I did update and clean this one up a bit... it's not perfect yet but it's a step better. Step by step, bit by bit... and then on to the next ;)
Your approach really helps and inspires me; no needless tinkering about the last minor detail, no, you make real music, warts and all, and anyone who hears it loves it. Thanks a lot!!
BaoBou. Lovely entrance melody and a solid drum mix that sets the pace. Your guitar adds a layer of life that cannot go unnoticed. Now for your vocals, sorry I absolutely cannot unhear that illustrious Donald Fagen flavor! Just tighten up the overall mix a touch, then push this all the to perfection. For me this is a great track, and thanks for sharing your creativity
Nice track.
With a bit more work on it, this could become a really good track, nevertheless I like it how it is.
The structure is ok for me, I enjoyed listening the whole song ...
Also very good choice of instruments.
Thanks a lot my friend. I think I still want to fix the guitars (some of it is a bit out of tune) and then I think it's ready to go into the world on its own (Looperman is my playground ;) )
Thanks for listening and your comments, much appreciated!
Hi Bao, the basis of your track is promising, I will be careful not to tell you what to do to improve the piece, I think you are qualified enough for that! good job dude!
Michael
Haha, please do tell, different people hear different things and being fully objective to your own babies is the hardest thing.
On my list is:
- re-record the drums (made a start with that)
- rewrite and rerecord the vocals (I have the melody now figured out I think)
- I need a stronger climax around 4-4:30
- the second part with the strings is still messy. I'll probably remove the vocals there, and I might delete the entire section (3:04-3:20, roughly).
Anything I missed?
Ahh, my dear B Hello.
You are a brilliant guitarist and a modest man too.
This is a wow, and it has the wow factor.
I hope it's going into Youtube.
I love it
Well done.
Maj
What is not to like like about the track? There are great changes, great playing on all the instruments and the singing. What can I say that hasn't already been said by the looper family?
I like the little, subtle things in songs like this. For example, the sound of the ride cymbal, it was clear but not too loud, to me it sat perfectly in the mix. Also the way the lead guitars play together, it's intricate but if you listen closely, there is a lot going on. Good stuff!
Thanks a lot buddy. Always wonderful to read from you and you have seen quite a part of my journey already so that makes your notes even more valuable. Glad that it pleased your ears :)
BaoBou. For me this work is quite impressive. From the overall cohesive quality of the band. The type of sound I’d love to hear live. The tape type of saturation through out is bossed up creativity. Now your vocals…… for me is Donald Fagen zone. Nice work.
Thanks a lot Mark, on behalf of me and the band ;) (oh wait, that's me too).
You know I like Steely Dan so if my vocals remind you of them... I'm happy :)
I like Richard Osman, Huge Intelect. I loved his interview with Frankie Boyle a few years back, pulled no punches. I like this tune mate, really laid back and a pleasant listen to tonight.
I need to watch that interview again. Many people were upset about that, as Frankie Boyle is also to some extent the voice of the nation (or the voice of the shouting drunk in the park, at least), but I noted Osman was on a recent episode of Boyle's "New World Order" (S06E01) and Frankie called him "the smartest guy I know" so I guess he doesn't mind.
Thanks a lot for the listen Steve! The music is smooth, the lyrics are somewhat uncomfortable.... I hope that contrast works a bit :)
bro what can i say, this is a great sounding track, you will tweak and play with aspects of the volume like most of us do, the guitar and piano are great and your vocal is impressive can hear the improvement its packed with emotion, great job mate, solid mix too
Thanks a lot Kirk! Yeah I believe it s a topic so many of us recognise, and possibly creative people more than others.
It s also something we avoid talking about - what Osman called the shame of being ashamed.
If you want to hear him talk about it (you will recognise he s pretty much a straight source for these lyrics :D ), look for The Untold Story Of A TV Legend s Addiction, from roughly minute 45.
He s extremely honest and open about it and for me it was cathartic to even listen to him.
Hi Baobou, nice track, as Manu says, a little clapton, well done, for the mix it's all about the ear, taste and the climate in which you make the track evolve, nice job dude!
Michael
Hi again, don't get me wrong, I love the piano and the bass (and your vox). It was just the electric piano that comes in around 1.30 or so. But listening again on the PC and through my other headphones it's not sticking out of the mix so much now. Besides, me critiquing your mix is like someone throwing stones in a glass house. Its a fantastic track man.
Haha no worries man. Never talk yourself down, you hear things, and I very much appreciate you mentioning it, please always help me on such things.
I might of course decide not to follow up but I really really appreciate you taking the time to listen actively, note something and point it out.
That's awesome and I wish everyone would do that, because I learn every time :)
So I guess you dragged yourself away from the Caribbean then?! Some great song writing craft on display here, musically and lyrically. And performed oh so sweetly too. I thought maybe the electric piano was a tad loud here and there. I quite liked the slightly rambling structure but maybe as you say to Rita, you could also tighten it up a little with some editing. More than fine as it is to me though...
Haha yes I was back physically after 1 week, but musically took a lot longer.
The comment about the piano is interesting, because I was discussing it yesterday with someone who said he especially liked the combination of piano and bass. But I think I know what you mean, some of the individual piano notes are too sharp/loud right? Especially in the more silent parts.
Yeah, that's a good catch, and I can fix that. Thanks buddy!!
