I really didn't to find any classically trained guitarist on looperman when I signed up.

This place is incredible.

This seems like a really groovy experiment. I like the old style sounds you've used. I seem to remember hearing this song before... Cool stuff!
jfw
jfw replied Unknown
Thanks for the review spivkurl. This is a cover of "Birdland" from Weather Report's classic album 'Heavy Weather' which is why it seems familiar. Their version however is vastly superior to this.

Man, wish I was on a white sand beach in Cuba right now again. This track brought back many wonderful memories. I'd glad you saved this analogue tape and digitized. I have a crate full of tapes hoping to do the same thing one day.
jfw
jfw replied Unknown
Thanks for the comments. I have loads of old material that I think is worth listening to, but is badly recorded. One day I may get around to re-incarnating some of this material by re-recording it from scratch.

That just hit the spot :) made me sit back, close my eyes and smile. The arrangement was beautiful. And the ending def. reminded me of an RPG game like when Link finds the Master Sword.

I like the aura this song gives off. I dont know about the whole video game thing. But if i was shopping around a store this is what i would amgine be playing. Super good job not useing samples. Loops are for pansies! ! !
jfw
jfw replied Unknown
Thanks for the review codymeister , glad you liked it. I agree with the loops sentiment but I dont know if I should say it too loudly on a site called LOOPerman. Oh sod it, "Loops are for pansies".

I like... GR-20?
Just a bit of Steely Dan peppered in.
Nice work
jfw
jfw replied Unknown
Hi Rick, glad you liked it. I use a GR-50 but only to trigger, I use a variety of slaved tone generators for sounds. Steely dan are indeed one of my influences. Cheers - jfw.

Ya know, Nomad, this is something I am quite divided on....leave the analog traces or try to remove them. Sometimes I find that leaving such things as tape hiss and dropout can add character, but thats just my personal opinion. I dunno, its like when u put an old vinyl onto cd, I just love to hear that snap crackle pop...oh btw jfw am I mistaken or is your profile pic a scan of a Boule Noir album?
jfw
jfw replied Unknown
Hi thanks for reviewing and your comments on the analogue cleanup issue. The avatar is lifted off the King Crimson album - In the court of the crimson king an observation by king crimson.

you know i'm digging this man..i looked up your profile and we have alot of similar people in our influences...john mclaughlin, weather report(i went to school with Victor Bailey and jammed alot with him), etc....this is like peering through a looking glass at an alternative reality ..a little world of it's own..

victormusic01x....in the n y C!!.....remembering Jaco rip and Hiram Bullock rip and Mark Ledford rip...bright stars that burned out too quickly
jfw
jfw replied Unknown
It seems we do indeed have a lot of shared influences. All of those guys are/were top class players at the pinnnacle of the game. Thanks again for listening and reviewing - we will definately have to do something together...

This should play in the starting area of a Nintendo adventure game, possibly during the opening credits/scenes. Running around the woods, no enemies, right before that central bad guy pops out.

That ending part sounds like you've walk into the fountain of faeries or the beautiful love interest comes by.

Interesting track. Thanks for sharing it.

yeah man, this is nice and funky and those flutes and the little picking guitar stuff is my thing man, i played in alot of funky jams in my time, the 2nd section just takes off, don't know if anybody else caught the loop quoting freedom jazz dance deep in there, nice sound for the solo dude, man, I think you and i could come up with amazing stuff..i wanna listen to this again, this sounds very New York guy, like super session player just letting go...very well done, kinda acid jazz, slap is perfect for the track...thanks for posting your work jfw!

victormusic01x....in the n y C...ii v/i vi7b9/bvimaj79.../biimaj913...yeah baby

Thanks for the nice review & the fave. You're right about slap johnson's sax being just the right thing for this. As regards collaboraing on something, if you have some material that you think my style of playing would suit - let me know and I'll attempt to add something worthwhile to it - cheers jfw.

lovely stuff mate,i never thought i would like
jazz before,i discovered it when i went to asia i heard
this band in manila in a hotel(outstanding they were) and since then i love
this kinda stuff,i alwayz thought that i need to be mature to handle jazz...i guess i am now:)) i'm feeling it,i think i have to go through ur tracks later on,maybe some collab i would
love to put my hand on some jazz samples from you and make it a house track with a jazzy twist...:))peace
jfw
jfw replied Unknown
Thanks for the listen, Jazz is definately an aquired taste. I will get around to downloading some loops - when I do I'll let you know and maybe we can collab on something - I have been working on my own and I think someone else's input might take me in directions I wouldn't normally explore. Cheers jfw.

This is a nice one jfw. It appeals to my sense of the exotic. It really does seem almost Cinematic. It is very listenable and I especially like the change near the end. The orchestral elements are very pretty.

Pretty good for old tape....a couple of my trax on mulchefye.bebo.com were also dumped from old tape cassettes and the scratching on Dadarcade is from old cassette as well, I used idd to clean it up, sometimes u can get pretty good results from old tapes, as can be clearly seen from your track!

Thanks for the listen. I'll be sure to check out the link to the tracks you cleaned up with idd. - cheers jfw

This is a very enjoyable and calming song. Interesting that you did all this with a guitar synth. When you say guitar synth do you mean MIDI guitar?
jfw
jfw replied Unknown
Thanks for the listen. It is indeed a midi guitar - just a question of which terminology you use - cheers.
