Wow, it really has been a while hasn't it! So happy to see you! Of course I remember! This is simply an expression of my feelings, and further training in the live one-man performance aspect of my music, which does not get nearly enough attention from myself. Working hard to create songs which will be effective in a live setting with no support at all. It's a challenge, but that is how an artist grows, I suppose. Working on a magnetic tape based instrument today, based on some ideas by Reed Ghazala and Arius Blaze. Something I've wanted to do for a while. I will check out your profile and then get back to it. Thank you for listening my friend!

Spiv,
Very intense. You must be smoking some good stuff lol. Kinda like Pink Floyd meets System Of A Down on acid.

Hey buddy, it's been a while! Unfortunately, this has been a ridiculously unmedicated summer and fall. Went without cannabis for the longest time in probably fifteen or so years. It has hurt really bad of course, although I have learned some things... I learned I cann't talk to people when I'm angry or ill unless I want to get charged with a crime (which I am again). I learned how to refinish old hardwood floors (which is in my Studio B and eventually the entire house). I learned how to make soymilk, nutmilk, tofu and tempeh (which has saved me a ton of money and walking or cab fare). And now, obviously, I am re-learning live band performance, but on my own. I dig much of Pink Floyd's stuff, but have never really gotten into SOAD... as far as I know, they were very popular in the time when I checked out of society and media pretty much completely (1996-2000). I think it was a good time to check out though, as I have developed very differently from my peers since then. I appreciate you stopping by my friend!

Well...that was...something ? :D I can't say how i feel about this track at the moment. But i liked parts from 00:00 - 2:05 and from 4:40 till the end.

Spivkurl replied 27th Oct 2016 - 9 years ago
Thank you for listening and leaving your comment! I get why you liked the parts which you did... since this was all a live performance, the sync was hard to achieve, and that middle section got a bit messy. I am however happy with the result, considering only a couple of days between patching the hardware and devising the idea to recording this take. It's a good workout standing where I'm surrounded by instruments, and turning to reach more than one of them at once to make the momentary changes while trying to prepare for the vocal parts. Thanks again!

Ahh, to receive a comment like this from you is such a pleasure! I'm happy that you understand as well. With how things are becoming around here, anything would be preferable... anarchy, violent revolution, nuclear war... anything. I'm already a perpetual victim, and I already have the causes to drive me... the only thing standing in the way is a militaristic police state which only values it's surreptitious mind control over the populace. It's working too! I don't know why it's not working on me... Maybe the lack of TV commercials? Maybe the lack of mobile technology? Maybe the lack of medication? Maybe the lack of vaccination? Maybe the rejection of GMO/pesticide/herbicide/hormone laden food? Maybe the soil microorganisms that I touch? Maybe the entheogenic substances? Maybe because I've never legally driven a car? It could be any of these or more! I seem to obviously see things which others are unable to look at, even when they are shown. I don't get it. There is a reason I will be voting for Jill Stein again this year, even though she is a doctor. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are both on the payroll of the same corporations, and thus neither will serve to change things for the better. Green party does not accept corporate donations, and corporations are who currently control USA, possibly the world? No matter what happens, I could see myself with only what I can carry in the next couple of years. I may as well enjoy this materialism while I can. Thank you for the very supportive comment, and for listening! Looperman has been a constant source of inspiration over the years, and I hope that it continues through the strife which will come. Have a good day!

Hey BLEEP, thank you for listening and leaving some kind words! It's nice being supported in doing something different from what I have been. What's nice about this, is that as long as some one is there to listen, this is completely independent of the computer. The only reason I used it was to record the independent tracks, and get it rendered to a state people could hear it online. I would have liked to hook up one of my cassette decks as well, but got lazy! Life is hard enough without the possibility of freaking out due to computer crashes, and I know exactly how that feels... don't we all? Thanks again!

Amazing man. This tracks slays! The synth during the stop at 3:48 is so evil and gritty. The drums are awesome. And the vocal effects kick ass! Great work on this!

Spivkurl replied 21st Oct 2016 - 9 years ago
Crypt, I thank you for being the first to comment on this one! I'm glad it was someone who appreciates the modular, industrial, lofi aesthetic! It is really a good feeling to finally be making strides in the one-man band live arena, as it's been a goal for a long time. The vocals weren't really planned, but simply thoughts which had been prominent in the last week, and in some part influenced by an injured woman screaming across the street on Monday. The drums are overly simple, since I had to do everything in real time, as opposed to detailed DAW work... I had to choose my battles to limit the length of the song. I am really happy with the break parts... the modular really worked out well there, and it was very present since it depended on what step I stopped the sequencer on as to how it reacted to the amplitude modulation changes. I will definitely be doing more stuff in this mode! Thanks again!

As do I, as do I, my friend. A great amount of my favorite music seems pretty hard to listen to (especially for other people)... The The (Matt Johnson), Shriekback, Bob Dylan, The Cure, Ohgr - stuff like that... It's stuff which a lot of people find noisy, annoying, or depressing. Those are part of what I like about it. Just trying to do my thing. Thanks for listening and leaving a comment!

Thanks my friend for commenting on something other than a featured track! This one was sure fun to make, although I've been heading in different directions since then... too many different directions at once even! I've come to think of the title as a bit of humor related to "twelve step" programs, though it was really just a fluke. I'm happy you enjoyed listening. Thanks again!

Haha you should've heard me reading the title...not erally, but it was funny. :-) I totally got it wrong the first two times. Lol

Really strange, but this took my mind to a child playing. He is content, playing with blocks and the colorful, things that move on the things that look like roller coaster rides. Then I thought of teletubbies, running around. Then strange voices coming over the airwaves. Then a cute little group hanging out on the streets of some island, entertaining all who walk by. Or maybe a video game of some sort. This takes my mind on many great journeys. :-)

Hmmmm is that why it's psychedelic??
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 28th Oct 2016 - 9 years ago
Always a pleasure to read your comment Patricia! The title was kind of a "word salad" which incorporated a generalized chemical composition as well as some mis-spelled slang. Obviously the title wasn't that important! The description of your mind's interpretation of this music was interesting to read. It does definitely suggest psychedelic imagery in ways. There are those days on which I feel like a child playing with toys, which is something to cherish. I have never experienced telletubbies, however I would not doubt that some of their origins were psychedelic in nature... I tend to think that many animated styles did. Those strange voices became the real anchor of the song, even if they are not fully audible... I like to incorporate recent thoughts into most of my songs, one way or the other. I remember when my wife and I would play and sing our songs acoustic on the bike path here in town, at that point, we could have been that cute little group you speak of. Though if we do it again, which we plan to, I fear things would be different. There is little freedom in this country or this city any more. Simply expressing yourself, speaking your mind, or sitting in a public area can cause more problems than one would expect. Video games are not something I've played for a while, though I did find a classic NES controller a couple days ago... hopefully I will find an affordable working NES to go with it. Used to love some of those games! Thanks so much for listening and leaving your words!

Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 27th Oct 2016 - 9 years ago
I think the "insanity/genius" fluke works both ways. In recent reading of my medical records, my psychiatrist described me as having average intelligence... at first, I was a bit offended. After some thought, I found hope in that he may be correct. After all, I've done some really stupid shit in my life, and I hope that there are many many people who are more intelligent than me... it may mean that there is real hope for the world. Then there are all of those head injuries... I can't really expect to be a genius will a mushy brain! I can however take comfort in the strength of my insanity. Fear seems to be the driving force behind many people's actions, and I seem to scare them without any intent or effort on my part... so this theoretically gives me power, right? Thanks for taking a listen to this one!

Thank you for taking a listen and leaving a comment! I've been attempting to try new things with each song I do these days. There is far too much stagnation in the world right now. Each of us who stands up and acts too get the winds of change blowing will have an effect... cumulatively, there will be a shit storm for those who wish to keep this stagnation in place. Dark times call for even darker measures. The politicians are too busy collecting cash and making the people forget the horrible things they have done, so our biggest hope is to replace those forgotten memories with "our" version of the truth instead of "theirs." I appreciate your continued support!!

Oh gosh what have I gotten myself in for here.

You're mad, you know this? I mean that in the most complimentary way possible.

Again I can't make sense of this...

That vibrato on the vocals was pretty sweet :D

It's like you're from an alternate dimension, where 80's German techno/industrial really took off.

I don't know whether to say well done or what the fuck... I'm going to opt for both :)

As always Spiv you've mashed my head, kudos.
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 23rd Oct 2016 - 9 years ago
Ha ha, yep I know that I am mad. It is well documented. Since requesting my medical records, I even find that I have a documented mental illness which I was unaware of... why they felt that I shouldn't be told is beyond me! I understand why you can not make sense of it, but I assure you it makes perfect sense to me. heh. Techno and industrial were definitely big influences in beginning my travels into electronic music, although the German stuff is only becoming a big influence. "Well done" and "What the Fuck" are both things which I would gladly accept, and things which I hear pretty often together. Unintentional head mashing is probably okay too... "It's hard to keep your feet dry when kicking in a skull." Thanks for listening!

Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 21st Oct 2016 - 9 years ago
Yeah, I've changed the genre listing three times now, since it evades me as well. I can mention some things it reminds me of, such as Tom Waits and Primus - and things which were probably influences, such as Ohgr and New Order - However that is only a little bit of the story, as you probably know. If we as artists are not "unique," then we are more akin to manufactured products than we are to a tree or a quartz crystal. I would rather be a natural growth than a postage stamp. Your reviews are always a pleasure to read, and I thank you for always being there to send them my way! Honestly, I intended it to be both more complex and more minimal than this, I was hoping to do it all live, yet with my limited number of limbs it was very difficult. So I went with live parts with some amount of arrangement and mixing. Working my way up to a live electronic one the next time though, so I hope it works out as planned. Thank you again!

This song has your name written all over it.
I really like the quirky vibes in the track,it shows total freedom, attention to detail and above all passion.
I also like the way you describe how this song
was put together.
You have so many analogic instruments in your studio but yet you never seem to lose focus on what you want to achieve musically.
Hats off to you Patrick

It has gotten to the point where I only create and release a song if it speaks to me "underneath." There is no reason to speak if it does not have a reason, and reason is "apparently" the only thing which separates us from other forms of life. I do not personally hold this idea as true, yet it makes sense to most humans who are not paid to be who they are. This song has changed genre three times now, and it seems most acceptable in "glitch" so that is where it will stay... people accept noise and sublime life in this genre, so it is obviously mine. The lyrics are most of what matters when keeping focus on what I intend, and this is a good example. After finding the right genre, it found the right people.,,, relatedly, it is good to see you still around!!!

Interesting track, it's rather odd & unique. The vocals worked really well on it

It took me a while to get into the music itself, but after a while it's really nice

I read the latest comment, I have to agree that it has an 80's flavour to it.. reminded me of The Human League

There's a bit of audio clipping at the 2:02 mark

Overall, nice job

Thank you for taking the time to listen and download this track! Took me quite some time to get the lyrics just how I wanted so that the song could take shape before performing them. I think it must be the organ parts which give the eighties flavor, or possibly the main vocal microphone, as pretty much everything else is pretty new as far as equipment goes... although I can't escape my love of eighties music. I assure you that there is no clipping at the point you speak of, as I analyze every song I release. Your recent comment on Chase Manhattan's track also mentioned "clipping," and it made me wonder if you know what clipping is. Clicking in the audio realm, and digital clipping are two very different things. There may be clicking, because I use a circuit bent drum box which I built recently, run through a loop pedal... so there will be artifacts in the lo fi realm. I assure you that the file itself is completely devoid of digital clipping (you can verify this by loading the file into audacity, and turning on "show clipping")... if you are speaking of analog clipping, then you may be correct, as I use that obsessively, and even build clipping circuits into many of my devices. Analog clipping is a very useful technique, while digital clipping is a loss of data bits. I appreciate your listen and comment!

Hello Spiv

Just had the feeling to come back to make and listen to some music. After 2 month of mostly no musical connection at all and posted a track. Then i jumped over to the track list to see what's going on on looperman and saw this one.
Great stuff. In a way it is art. on the other side it's cool music and very well sounding. Your vocals fit very good to your music. For sure a unique style. Lyrics are strong. Nice 80's vibe, so relaxed and at the same time wild and also hypnotic. Did i already say that i like it?

Really good one - respect

Hey Joe, it is good to have you back around, if even for a moment! It was an adventure creating this one, with work on many fronts. It was a good experience to finally do some serious recordings with that new bass. It was also very cathartic to finally sing the lyrics I had been working on for a while. Overall, this seems to be my least popular song for quite some time, and that is not surprising. Thanks for stopping in to hear it and leave your words!

do you know FRONT 242? your song is totally in this way! i like it! it remembers me this forgotten years, at the beginning of the house music... FRONT 242 had created his own style: "warbeat"

Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 29th Sep 2016 - 9 years ago
Oh yes, I definitely know of Front 242! Their work has never been my favorite sort of industrial/electronic stuff, but I've touched on them over the years... including earlier this year when I picked up a cassette of theirs which was still in it's wrapping (25 cents). I can't remember if I've heard it yet or not, maybe I should later today! The term "warbeat" definitely became absorbed into electronic culture in more recent years, and it's good to hear it thrown about again! I was thinking more of Ohgr (a'la "Devils In My Details") while preparing to compose this. Instead it turned out to be something pretty different, maybe more outspoken. Thank you for taking a listen to this, and leaving your words!

Hey man :)

Some glitchy sounds! I have to admit in all honesty, I had to get into the groove for the first 10 sec or so, but it sounds good! Unique even comes to mind. Nice additions in the vocals throughout the song. It def keeps things interesting with all the changes and variation.

I know it might most likely be my crazy mind, but it gives me a slight medieval feeling. Maybe that's caused by your deep voice haha. One of those songs sung with a jar in the hand at a wooden table in the tavern. :D

Spivkurl replied 29th Sep 2016 - 9 years ago
Hey there! Thanks for stopping in to listen to this one, which seems to be the least popular thing I've done in years... Guess I'm on the right track, ha ha! As you may have guessed, this song is not really about the groove... it's more for the psychonauts out there, who, like me have a heaping teaspoon of anger and sadness... Something to tell a story on the back of your eyelids. You latter comment actual does the song justice, like something from a medieval pub possibly... I was thinking "sea shanty" a bit after I had finished this. You must have at least some amount of a "crazy mind" to have given this song a good going over. The song was months in the making between the lyrics and the takes, plus learning to work with some new equipment. Thanks again for the supportive words!

I love the Timbo/Aaliyah feel with (no disrespect intended). I guess the only thing I would recommend having a radio friendly version (3mins 30sec with a clear verse, pre-chorus, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus out format). A singer/song writer would love this. Those vocals at the end are so dope too.

Good job, a nice smooth track overall.

Spivkurl replied 8th Oct 2016 - 9 years ago
Thank you for listening and leaving a comment! Regarding "Timbo/Aaliyah" I actually have no idea what you mean. I don't listen to pop music, aside from that which was made quite some time ago (60's through 90's mainly). Since this was simply a remix of someone else's song for a competition, and I did not succeed, then I probably won't take your advice to change the mix. Probably will delete it soon to make room for more songs! Thanks again!
