hey, waz up spivman !!! been a while mate, hope you are well. i like the psychedelic tunes your churning out these days, this ones really cool. good work man, keep it coming
Hey, yeah good to hear from you! It was great to have a nice solid set of hours to spend in the studio when I made this one. My energy is spent in so many directions that this is a rare thing. Very happy that you enjoy the psychedelic trance vibe! Hope all is well for you!
Hey Spiv! I can certainly appreciate all the effort and fun you had putting this together. It's a lot tighter and cleaner than the original and has your styling added. The mix is quite good, crisp. I am not a fan of the fake hand claps though but that's a personal preference issue more so than anything technical. I've checkout a couple remixes, this one stands out, maybe it's the overall quality of the mix.
Hello Wayne! It's good to hear from you! This is definitely not my usual style, but since it was composed by someone else, I can forgive that... ha ha. You're nice to compliment the mix when compared to the original and other remixes. The claps were in the stems, and I was making an effort to use them all... partly because I had only heard the original once before making this. I thought it might help give more of a nod to the original that way. They do however sound pretty artificial though, I agree. Having the midi files was really helpful, since I could do some hardware sound design with the composition in mind, at least without a bunch of thought and analysis. I appreciate you taking a listen and leaving your words!
A lot of middle east/indian sounding stuff... very interesting and it keeps it ambient! WAY different from my version! This deserves a win for sure! A+ mixing!
Thanks for listening and leaving the kind feedback! I guess I never though of an Asian influence in this, but I suppose I understand the reference. Looks like you won the comp, and I congratulate you for that! They were fun stems to work with!
Hey man, this music type is not my area of expertise, so can't give much of a feedback. Having listened to a few of your tracks in the past months, I think you know what you are doing without my input :D . I listened to the original, that was not bad either but I think I prefer your version. Can't put my finger on it, but it is more interesting to me. And the sound and production are top!!
Hey there! Thanks for taking a listen to this! I didn't place well in the competition, but that is to be expected. I'm glad you prefer this to the original, as I do too. I tried to add a lot more variation than the stems had in them... I'm not one to get bored, except with repetitive music. :) I really appreciate your support and your comments!
Very nice intro to this one, great panning from the percussion, liking the bell midi sound, has a very nice chill relaxing feel about it until the kick comes in, great bass you using here, reckon took a bit to get bass sound like it is, not familiar with this genre yet so cant give much feedback genre wise sorry, but enjoyed the listen that's for sure...fav...Peace matey...mosaic...
Hello my friend! It is nice to read your comments on this! In general, I would call this psychedelic trance, but since the addition of "psychedelic" as a genre it is my new project to overtake the category. Psy trance is definitely one of my favorite styles, and I think that the commonly uptempo vibe works for me. I usually do it around 144-146 BPM, where a lot of other trance is more 138-142. I've worked so much in that range, that my composition gets too repetitive at times. Plus it is so easy to fall out of trance, and into some other realm at those lower tempos, since so many other styles use the same range. The bass was meant to anchor the song, and add performance possibilities later in the day. I can't say how long it took, as I was in an unfamiliar state that day. The composition, arrangement and mixing of the song took about six and a half hours of continuous focus. That amount of dedicated time is not something I allow for music recently. I definitely recommend you seek out some psy or goa trance artists and have a listen. It totally changed the way I think about electronic music. Thank you for sending through a message! I will respond as soon as possible. I have been lacking in communication due to the mercury retrograde, home improvement, and further legal issues. Have a great day!
Don't know this genre so can not give any feedback about genre at all, sounding here this has a few midi's playing?
Have a fair amount of trip hop loops/samples here, never tried using them yet maybe one day lol...This piece has a vibe about it that wants you to listen too it and look forward to next part of the track, which is a good sign it is a good work...Very nice synths used and good arrangement...Fav...peace n respect...mosaic...
Hey friend, good to hear from you today! The original song was just labeled as "electronic," but with the raise in tempo and some other aspects of the mix, I felt that "trip hop" represented the song best of the choices we are given. Golden Ookami did provide some MIDI files for this remix pack, and I used a couple of them. I also did some custom composition for some of my MIDI instruments to compliment it. Most of the credit goes to Golden Ookami though, since pretty much every audio stem he provided was used in this arrangement. It was a fun one to keep me working on music while transitions are going on. Thank you for taking a listen! I look forward to a message from you! Take care!
Hey Pat, Interesting to hear Trip Hop from you like this. As it first transitions that chance was instantly felt nice work with that. Cool percs, dig the synth sounds and the ep type sound was awesomeness work bro. Diggin this one a lot, any more new methods of madness like this one? Ty for the walk through your town, such site to see! Keep doing it man! Peace
Hey buddy! Good to hear from you on this one! Of course I did not place high in the compo, I kind of expected that. I rarely work at a slow tempo like this, and it's been a while since I remixed... just needed some diversions and a wake up call. I think my biggest struggles recently are due to FL Studio... their plugin delay compensation seems pretty well broken in recent releases. Before v12, I never even thought about PDC, and in fact did not know that it was even there. Now it seems to take hours simply getting things in sync unless I use all native plugins (suck). I'm learning to adjust my workflow though. "The walk through your town..." That's funny... my town (literal city) looks like it has been carpet bombed right now! There is more construction now than any of the thirty or so years I have lived here. Big holes in the ground, empty lots, all night construction beeping, gravel where there were sidewalks, main road closed to let fracking trains through, blacktop smell permeates the air, and tweak is the real big underlying business. It's pretty hellish. Hope you are well!
Thank you Jamid for the continued support! I didn't really expect to win the compo with this one, but I needed some diversion and different ways of thinking... it helped. I'm glad you enjoyed hearing this! Thanks much!
Thanks buddy! I didn't win the comp, of course, since I was out of my element, and I mostly did it for diversion... but I'm still happy with the results. I'm glad you enjoyed listening! Thanks for the comment!
Great job on this remix. It's amazing that you were able to use all of the stems from the original and yet still give it your own feel. I'll be releasing my own remix of this song soon as well.
Thanks for taking a listen! Happy that you got a good reception on your remix! Was a fun sort of challenge, and not something I would usually do. Thanks for taking a listen and commenting!
Steve, thank you so much for the continued support! It seems that I can always count on you to listen to what I've been working on, and that makes me happy! Trying to get back in the zone on original works, and working with some other people's stuff has given me a new outlook. Hoping that the originator of this song likes it as well. Thanks again!
Hey Buddy, thank you! It seems that you had a different name when this comment went to my email. It's good to make the connection for real now. It's been enjoyable to do some work with other people's songs lately... it always seems to help me think in new ways and experiment, and it's been a while. Hoping to get some real work done on my own stuff now, since the nearby meth lab is no longer taking my voice and health. I'm happy with how this mix turned out, and I'm hoping that the originator digs it as well! Thanks for listening and leaving a comment!
Very creative take on the original. I begin to recognize your home-made synths! Overall - a darker, more brooding version. As always, sounds are beautifully mixed and thoroughly enjoyed. Regards. Dan
To be honest, I only heard the original once, a couple of weeks before making this. Instead, I took the stems and midi as a constraint, and did what I felt like with them. There are actually no DIY synths present in this composition, but only some tracks recorded from MIDI gear, including Zoom RT-123 and Microkorg. Those are my go to MIDI gear, as I've been using them both for nearly fifteen years straight. I wanted this to be acceptable to all sorts of listeners, so I did not use any noisy modular or circuit bent stuff. On top of that, psychedelics are not something which I'm accustomed to integrating with my DIY gear. "Midnight's Travel" to me in recent weeks has been strictly to visit the crack head next door, in order to ask her to turn off her flood light or to bring her howling dog inside. I'm a day shifter now, so when people keep me awake until 2 AM I get annoyed. I haven't done a remix in a while, but I'm happy that you liked what you heard here! It seemed liked a vacation from the things I normally would do!
Thanks buddy! It's not a style which I'm accustomed to doing, but since the stems and midi were in good form, I thought I'd give it a try. Was kind of a good way to take it down a notch from the serious times of late. Was fun to do a remix for a change instead of hosting one, as I used to do them all the time. I appreciate you always being there to listen and give support!
Hey Spivkurl. This is good for music i dont normally listen to or create. Slow tempo and trippy is a weird style but its good i think for a normal sounding techno track. Im into Dutch Electro House and Orchestral Dubstep E.G xtrullor. I like the bass. Wish you tried trap. You might be good at faster tempos. Thanks Spiv. I think im getting better at my music
Like yourself, this isn't my normal comfort zone. It is, after all, a remix of someone else's work. When creating electronic music, I rarely work below 130 BPM, and sometimes go as high as 200 BPM. I would never classify something like this as techno, and would never do something intentionally techno below 128 BPM. This remix is 116 BPM, which was up from 110 of the original. Trap is pretty much not my thing, but I have tentatively developed an offshoot, called "trip trap" which is different from trap in the way that drumstep is different from dubstep. Genre doesn't matter much to me, especially when the sounds are electronic. Vocals or real instruments are going to have much more bearing on my genre judgment, but beyond that, a synth is a synth. So... yeah faster tempos is what I usually do as well, but time stretching loops too far makes them sound rubbish. Thanks for listening and leaving a comment!
Hi Spiv,
After a long absence, I was very pleased to find a new track of my favorite "trippy musician" :-)
I had to listen to the original of course to make a comparison: while the original track was already very good, I think you made it a lot "darker" and therefore interesting (at least to me).
I simply love the "simple synth" sounds you have used in the first section: they add a lot of "depth" to the track.
The last section has something of Carpenter's work (simple slow lines which build tension in a positive way).
The closing synth line... this is very 80ish and therefore how could I not love it? (but credit for this should go to GoldenOkami)
Well done!
Ciao, Domenico
Hey Domenico! Good to hear from you today! It's interesting that you found it darker than the original, and listening again, I guess I can hear what you mean. With the "midnight" theme, I suppose that makes some sense. This remix used all of the original wav stems, so a lot of the credit goes to Ookami. I did however take one shots of some of his instruments in order to make the composition more complex. Also raised the tempo to 116 instead of 110 BPM... enough to give some energy without too many artifacts. I think the arpeggio I made on the microkorg may be part of the carpenterish feel that you get... using keyboard tracking to control the LFO modulation rate gives a pleasing time shift, with a touch of tension. Ookami's leads in this stem set were quite awesome, and I felt the need to use them all. It's great to have you back around the site, and it was pleasing to read your words. Thank you!
Thanks friend! The bass really was a major anchor for the song, as that's how I usually like my electronic trance music. I'm happy it came across well. I appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment!
That's quite a compliment, and I thank you for it! Most of the mixing was done in the midst of the same trance which resulted in the sound design and arrangement, so I think that helped make it cohesive. The mastering was completed the next day, after an EEG test, which I don't believe I've undergone right after a psychedelic experience like this. It is comforting to know that it was completely normal... ha ha. I really dig doing psychedelic trance, so much so that it seeps into almost every song I do. I often have to force myself to keep it out of a composition, just to avoid repeating myself. Very pleased that you enjoyed listening, and I appreciate you leaving a comment!
This track was enjoyable and progressed nicely through the various melodic transitions. Like psychotropics, it kept me sedated yet elated at the same time.
Hey CC, it seems like it's been a while! Hope all is well for you! Happy that you enjoyed what you heard, and felt the psychedelic influences in there. Hope to see you around more!
This is a great song. There's beauty in its simplicity. Love the arps and the way you worked the delays and the reverb. It's not something I'd ever imagine being in a club environment, but it feels like it's on its own artistic plane. Love it.
Thank you for taking the time to listen and leave a comment! I have been making electronic music for about sixteen years, yet I have never been to a "dance club." When I go out to hear music, it is generally live bands. In fact, the only "rave" I have been to was 25 years ago, and was at a christian music festival. It's funny, I simply have no idea, and little interest in what people expect to hear in a club! When I am doing this sort of music, I find it more akin to "braindance," where it is meant to inspire though along with visions, whether OEV or CEV. The combination of tends to be, for me at least, a sort of internal dance, which tunes the physiological state of the body and it's reactions to the so called external world. As such, I take your comment as a compliment! I really appreciate you listening!
What's up Spiv, MACK MAN here. From one veteran Looper to another, You still got it.Like this arrangement. The instrumentation is classic Spiv. I'm never disapointed when i visit. very dynamic master. I will be back. PEACE THE MACK MAN OUT.
Hey friend, been a while! Very happy that you liked what you heard on this one! Just another episode of attempting to heal through music... we've got try, right? Thanks so much for taking a listen!
Hey tv! What's up? Hoping that this song helped you to enjoy the after effects of that bowl! This summer has been the longest I've gone without smoking bud for years, maybe even a decade or more. Filing bankruptcy and the summer heat has gotten in the way, which are both situations which make me wish that I was smoking! I fully realize that you are more into psychedelic rock than trance, but I'm happy that you could enjoy it all the same. My roots are in psychedelic rock as well, and I try to bring a bit of that into most things that I do... I'm just not used to recording guitar while I'm tripping, ha ha. Happy to hear from you!
Nice track, very simple and rhythmical. I love minimalism in everything — including music — and this track is minimalism itself. And it works! Made wanna dance in some weird fashion and then go and watch Blade Runner for a hundredth time. I think it has a little bit of that vide, too. By the way, I completely agree on what you said here about the world’s current state, with corporations controlling all aspects of our lives. That’s capitalism at its most epic. Anyway, thanks for the eight minutes of great musical experience!
Thank you for listening to this and leaving your comments! It's been a seriously long time since I saw Blade Runner, however I can understand the correlation. I suppose that this is pretty minimal compared to a lot of my songs, since it didn't involve a bunch of patch cables, vintage toys, and midi routing. I'm glad you have a glimpse of the corporate rule that is going on currently... I wish that the government would cease taking corporate funds and treating them like they are some sort of superhuman race (though they just might be exactly that). The cost of the bombs we drop in a week could very likely feed millions of people for a year, and yet the corporations are allowed to use chemical and genetic weapons in the name of feeding the people. Head up ass. I really appreciate your words!
