Ed, you are far too kind! It was an important song for me to complete, and as is often the case, songs like that are difficult for me to share with anyone. Sometimes I wonder about being one of a kind, and all I need to do is think of my wife... we share too many feelings and ideas for that to be true. In reading about clovers, white clovers specifically, I learned that the world record for most leaflets on a clover is 86. I think that my upbringing regarding the rarity of a simple four leaf clover was simply overstated. Hopefully this is true, otherwise something odd is going on in our backyard the last few years! That is quite a compliment! Thank you for that! In all honesty, a lot of the songs that I make, I can't help but hear strong correlations with a lot of the music which I've been listening to for a long time. This leads me to the conclusion that very few people on Looperman listen to the sort of thing which I like. If this weren't the case, they would probably be mentioning those musicians, instead of mentioning ones who I am only vaguely familiar with when making comparisons. I guess I should take advantage of this, instead of worrying that I'll be accused of ripping of my favorite artists! Thank you for always showing up to the party!

Joecramer, your respect is appreciated, as well as returned in kind! You know you have influenced me since you started visiting Looperman with your songs and your unique vocal work! I have been working really hard on vocal recordings lately, more that anything else. Been trying my best to be at least close to in key, as well as to not need any editing for time after the recording is done. I've also been trying to get used to recording vocals without a blood alcohol level... which I actually was able to do in the more recent song, for the first time in a couple years, from what I remember. Thank you so much for always being there with your words and support!

"Creative creation!" I like that, it's funny... makes me wonder what a "non-creative creation" would be like... hmmmm... ha ha. By "picking thru the sounds" I assume you mean that there is a lot going on in the mix, and you hear different things at different times. I like to make a mix that can shift along with the mind-state or mood of the person listening. Like a mood ring or something. Thank you very much for listening and leaving your words!

I remember a time when that only meant that you were signed to an independent record label. Now it seems to have become a genre. With that in mind, I'm not sure how to reference the singing style comment. I do however take it as a compliment, as I have enjoyed many independent musicians work over the years. Heh, here you are with another ultravox comparison, which is great because you seem to like their style! I've never been able to completely hear the connection, but who knows maybe hearing it when you mention it has influenced me more than I realize? Listening to the song you linked to at the moment. While I really enjoy the vocal recordings, I am not very fond of the music. I think there is a big difference between "simple" and "minimal," and besides the vocals it sounded very simple. Yes, you are correct, Autotune was used just for that short interluse as an effect, along with several other aesthetic effects. I just wanted the tune to carry away with the mix at the moment and the autotune fed to the delays and stuff worked well for that. Thank you my friend!

Hey Brado, thank you for taking a listen to this one! I'm getting the impression that it is far less acceptable to people than my usual track, and I take that as a good sign... a sign that I am breaking through barriers put up by things such as genre, "professionality," and machismo. The words meant a lot to me, and I wish I could have sang them better, but at the same time the words were especially relevant when the main takes were recorded, so it conveys the feelings well. The additional vocals were basically outtakes from attempts to do better, and yet they did add a lot. The vocals are actually not very raw overall, just audible. This is the first use of the new four channel gate/expander rack piece I picked up recently, and my first use of the Kustom dynamic microphone in quite some time. I suppose it could be considered a new or different genre, but it is securely influenced by early psychedelic rock such as Jefferson Airplane and The Doors, as well as some new wave stuff like New Order. In face the riff that shows up a couple times in the second half seems almost stolen from New Order, which was totally unintentional, and I didn't realize it until later. Hey man! Good to hear from you every now and then! I think you probably did the right thing with the bong... you know "grain of salt" and all. My roots are really in psychedelic genres, and more specifically Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, Depeche Mode, and the like. I know... that last one doesn't fit, but it works for my ears. The second half of the song is definitely more important riff-wise, as I think I really captured the New Order vibe in places, and on accident no less. I haven't used a dynamic microphone for a while, but I think that the tone really suited the song... plus it was easy since I already had it hooked to the noise gate for testing. Hey man, thank you for taking a listen and leaving your words! Honestly, the "You are never alone" line is mostly a complaint... with just a hint of positive affirmation. Living in a decent sized city, I feel that it is very hard to escape from all the BS which is present in modern life. Very happy that your builds have been going well! You mentioned my "pics," and I can't help but wonder which ones you mean. As far as I know, the only actual "lab" pic on the wearerecords.com site is from about 10-12 years ago! Everything else is pretty much studio pics more recently. My actual electronic/design lab is pretty much shut down until I get the new room finished, which should be only a couple weeks. (which is what I've been saying for a couple of months!!) When my lab is consolidated, it's a mess of various lengths of wire, parts, salvaged gear, and vintage toys. I'll be sure to post new pictures when I get it all sorted... I'm on the fine sanding of the hardwood floor now, and will be testing the iron oxide stain later this week. Thanks again!

Hey buddy! Hope all is well with you! It's nice of you to say that... I wonder if I'm getting better, or if I'm just getting more capable (which is often little to do with proficiency). It's hard to tell. I've actually never listened to a whole Daft Punk album, and couldn't name one of their songs to save my life. Seemed like they were popular in the late nineties... around that time, I had no TV, no computer, no radio, no phone... just a wife, a turntable and a slum to live in. So it's all kind of non-existent from that era. Since then I've tried to listen, but it never worked out. Maybe I should try again? You listen to tapes?! That's awesome! I've been digging out my old tapes and collecting more recently. I just love the experience and the tone. Thank you so much for always checking out my stuff!

Thank you for taking a listen and leaving a comment. "Disturbing and just off, in a good way" is something I can get behind for sure! It seems that the songs of this album disturb exactly the right people, while the people who are already on the right track find it happy and refreshing. As far as the vocal verses go, I can give two excuses... 1) The vocal parts of this song were literally last minute, as I was facing the chance of jail time the following monday. 2) The song is not meant to be a radio friendly pop song, but more of a modern folk song. (I would place a big guess that you are not into Niel Young or Bob Dylan etc...) In regards to the low end, some of the bass parts are purposely mid frequency, and lifting into higher frequencies at times. It sounds considerably thumpin on all of the systems I've listened on... (five different headphones on different players, alesis monitors, computer speakers with sub, and my hi-fi with JBL three way speakers) I appreciate your advice of course, but since the song and album are only memories now, no changes will be made. Appreciate the comments!

Electro punk sounds like a decent description... a lot of the new wave sort of stuff that I've listened to for a long time was combining electronic and punk aesthetics. Like New Order, The Cure (Got tickets to see them in June!!! First time in 20 years!), Gary Numan and stuff like that. I guess I never really thought of most of these sounds as 8bit, since generally they weren't from 8bit sources, nor were they recorded at 8bit... but I can definitely see why it would sound that way. I would agree about it not getting boring for sure, as even I still listen to it regularly. Thanks much for your listen and continued support!

Thanks for your continued support Ed! I think the idea that I'm not a commercial source makes a big difference. I react badly when money and art are co-mingled sometimes! This is quite sample based, but a lot of the samples were of instruments I built or modified. I've been doing a lot of work in my temporary second studio in the kitchen upstairs, and I don't have all of my instruments up there. Soon the hardwood floors will be done for the lab and studio B, so I can move a few instruments in there... and free up some space in my main studio, as it's getting mind blowing at the moment. I found ti pretty minimal as well, but groovy and deep enough to wok. I really appreciate you taking a listen!
