Wow. This track is impressive. Sounds insane the first time you listen to it, but it's complexity shines on repeated listens. I especially love your vocal performance. Like the composition it shifts and slides around (through it's pitch and through panning). It's quite easy to believe that the narrator is lost again, because everything keeps changing, even himself. Obviously that is just my interpretation. But it's cool that the track made me engage with it.

Thank you my friend! "Sounds insane the first time you listen to it, but it's complexity shines on repeated listens." This part of your comment made me think deeper on how people interact with me in my "everyday" life. As if only those who have interacted with me regularly in the past can understand how I react to things. Possibly this is part of my recent legal issue. The vocals took a bit of practice, and with the tempo of them it was difficult to give the song a good length. There was definitely a bunch of different influences to the vocal/lyrical aspect. Getting "lost again" was a primarily external issue, and is a very positive aspect of the idea. It was celebratory, in a way, as I have been charged with three crimes in the past four years, and have avoided trial or real punishment in all cases. I always appreciate hearing other people's interpretations, especially in my lyrical work... this is part of what is so valuable about the looperman community! I'm happy that you listened and enjoyed! Thank you!

Woah this is so fun to listen to. Sooo abstract. I could listen to this a billion times and find something new each time! Nice work. :)

Thank you for listening to this, and for leaving your equally fun comment! It's interesting, I never really thought of this as abstract... possibly it is a reaction to the lyrics, maybe not. Happy that you feel that it merits further listening. Thank you so much!

Thank you Elena for the nice comment! It seems that a lot of people only notice the strangeness, as opposed to the extreme levels of contemplation and research which lead to my songs. I'm happy that you can see through that a bit! Often I get a lot of resistance when trying to explain my musical thought process, or I get retorts such as "you obviously don't know anything about synthesizers," or "this is intentional due to this or that genre." It seems silly, but people can think what they want. I appreciate you listening a couple times!

this is really amazing approach to sound you presented on EP and I mean this in a positive sense. Really a great amount of true musical content to be found and explored and enjoyed in here!
Let me explain: As I mentioned I am listening intensively to the 2nd chanell of Polish Radio right now in order to stay sane and connected to whatever useful from the overall 'culture'. I was listening to the famous 'I am sitting in the room' by Alvin Lucier https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAxHlLK3Oyk for example and had a chance (unintentionally for the most part) to instruct myself on different musical matters I had only a vague knowledge until now. Anyway... Your works are definitely much more performative and 'improvisative' than that dry conceptual. I know it is hard to find a proper resonance and even basic understanding to this kind of art on Looperman sometime.

I am listening to entire EP on bandcamp right now

Hello there, and thank you for listening to this recent EP! I visited the "I am sitting in a room" recording, and will not have time to hear it throughout this morning, but may return to it at another time. It made me curious of the real process which he used in the recording. Also, it reminded me a bit of the last EEG test which I went through in July. The technician need to record the session, but she also had the computer speakers turned on. So you can guess what happened... each minimal noise fed back upon itself. She opened a cough drop, and the echoes cut into my brain. She coughed, and I wanted to puke. It was pretty much ridiculous, and obviously I could not get a sleep result. I hope to do more of this improvisation work, but currently I'm more focused on instrument building, in order to facilitate the work. I need to scrape the cat box now, ha ha, so I will speak to you soon! Thank you again for your listen and words!

I love female sounding sample you incorporated to those first beats of a song - at least this is how it sounds to me: serious and real. Politics and stuff discussed - a real song! At 0:47 I can recognize wonderfully ringing Omnichord in the backgroud when melodic treated voice is in foreground. High - Low, Dense - Transparent - a kind of extraposition happening. Cool. 1:40 is more breathy. Fine mixing of sound. 1:54 there is an apparently simple melody, I like it a lot.

Spivkurl replied 14th Feb 2017 - 8 years ago
Thank you for visiting my page again in recent days! You are right, this is serious and real - as are most things going on within and without lately. Then again, things are getting to the point where nothing is okay, no matter what choices I make. It's hard feeling this way, but at least music can help me keep going. The omnichord fit in really well to make that section happen, and I'm glad that you could "pick it out." The term "melodic treated voice" had me wondering - to me it suggested some sort of use of pitch shifting or correction on the vocals. There definitely was none of that. Possibly you mean something very different from this though. The idea of extraposition was one which I had to look up, and I found it very interesting and appropriate for the lyrics. The "breathy" aspect of that last vocal section was most likely due to sheer exhaustion... performing this many words in such a short song was a bit trying. The simple melody was played on the Yamaha YS200, in an effort to make a short solo phrase which would give a contrast to what had come before. Seemed to work okay, especially with the odd modulation which trails of on the last note. Thank you very much for listening my friend!

I don't think that I can avoid the traits which you speak of, and yet, I can't help but feel that it is others who are strange and weird (music aside). Can these things truly be a "majority rules" attribute? I look around at the people I see, and I think "how can you live like this?" In a similar fashion, I look at much of the recent popular music, and think "why bother?" Maybe these things on their own make me strange or weird. Either way, I appreciate your listen, and the feedback! Thanks!

Hey Orlando! Thank you for having a listen to this one! Your reaction to the title is entertaining to me, due to the underlying idea behind those words... I did in fact get lost again, but maybe not in the way that it could be assumed. Mostly it refers to being "lost" by the court system again. A third citation, in a period of four years, from which I could avoid trial or serious consequences. Luck of the Irie strikes again, I suppose. I'm always found in more pure form when the satisfaction is present, or the lack thereof. Thanks for the kindness... I'd rather be "off the wall" than hanging ON IT. Appreciate the fave my friend!

Hey Ed, thank you as always for the kind hearted comments, and for going out of your way to listen to my stuff. I feel this drive, many times, to convince people to see even a little bit "my way." Usually it feels like pulling teeth... Hopefully I can learn to give that up eventually, except in the music itself. I've spent several weeks designing a new and unusual modular rig, and it will probably be several more before it's finished. Still it is good compared to the decade or so spent on my last one. Thanks again my friend!

Hiya Friend!

I have to say without reservation that you are probably among the truest artists on Looperman. The way you express yourself through sound is quite cerebral. I am compelled to listen. I hope you always stay true to whatever that thing is that drives your artistic expression. Well done, you, on this piece, and I am in total agreement with Bleep...every time you listen to this track there is some new discovery.

Mykael, it is always a pleasure to receive a comment from you! I never know where I'm going to go next as far as creation, except maybe a moment before it happens. Been focusing on building instruments more lately, rather than recording. Been soldering and researching circuit for several hours a day. The one on the desk now is pretty involved... about fifteen circuit boards so far, with at least a couple more to build. I'm very happy that you enjoyed listening to these songs, and I hope you go grab the whole EP, as it definitely loses something when heard separately. Thanks friend!

Hello old friend,

Right from the get go I like the textures in the sounds, intro is building nicely. Its quite a mad journey but I like it, something different for a change!

Once faultline kicks in its a lot more upbeat, some cool sounds working together here. The percussive white noise elements work really well to give the track some nice rhythm. I think this is my fav of the two, it has a bit more structure to it! The bass sound at 8:30 is a tad too loud for my liking but I appreciate it was done on the fly.

Keep doing what you're doing, buddy! :)
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 2nd Feb 2017 - 8 years ago
Thanks for listening to these and leaving your words! I agree about faultline being the more structured of the two. It was done directly after agonist moon, and I was definitely on a pretty decent high from the earlier experience. I chose a slightly less challenging medium to work with, and thus it flowed in comparison. The bass sound which is loud near the end was sort of one of those "accidentally on purpose" moments, and it is really one of my favorite parts of the whole EP. I love the contrast of it. I'm hoping to actually record something today... been locked in the lab soldering quite a few hours a day for weeks. If I don't take a day off my brain is going to die from the fumes (again). Very pleased with the overall reaction to these songs, and I did not expect it. I really appreciate it man!

There are some things in life, which we are not meant to understand. My supposition is that your listen was partial, even though there are two songs, though I may be wrong. There are also some forms of medicine which are not meant for the uninitiated. I know this sounds super elitist, but it really is long cultural tradition, and one which I hold dear. Somehow, I know you would be back after my reply. Is it possible that you did not read the description either? Another supposition is that you do not listen to cassette tapes, and as this is digitally mastered from the original cassette, then you can not get your head around the hiss, wow and flutter, and saturation type. It comes with time. To me tapes are like gold. You need not worry, none of this is offensive... it is just the way things are now. Thank you for your comments.

I'm not going to lie, I originally listened to it on my phone (hence the short comment), but when I got to my desktop I was literally entranced by the minimalist direction and the sound of the what I'm assuming was the spinning record. I listened to the whole thing in silence. It really feels different and surreal, and I enjoyed every second. It is so raw, I could not but help get ear tingles from it! Good job, Spiv. You knocked it out of the park on this one.

Brado, thank you for listening, apparently more than once! I would probably not be mistaken if I said that this work was as far from intended to be listened to on a phone as is possible. I don't even have a phone of my own any more, and I've never had a smart phone. It is more intended for listening to a first generation cassette copy on any system, or the digital remaster on a hi-fi system. I'm sure that the desktop was much closer to this, so I'm happy that it translated well. No vinyl was harmed in the making of this recording, what you hear is the wow and flutter of the Sansui 2-track cassette deck which it was recorded to. Surreal is definitely a good word from my point of view. It seems that people are able to connect to the work, so I am happy. Thank you for the comment!

This gave me acid flashbacks, frankenstein, I'm Aliiiiiiiive!!, meditation music, tranced out, 8:25 Willy Wonka midgit with an orange face from the original movie bowing down pushing on a bike pump as the chocolate jumps in the transparent tube, did you subliminalize me?
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 12th Jan 2017 - 8 years ago
"acid flashbacks"... you and me both man. I do so love a good reanimated corpse! It is interesting that you bring up "meditation music." I have never been good at meditation, no matter how much a desire it. Most of the moments where I feel the singularity and infinity of life are when I am creating music. In this state, I know that it could go on forever, and I would simply be lost in particles and energy with anything else that exists. I used to enjoy the Wonka thing as a child, however my wife has traumatic experience with it, so I have not paid attention to it for decades. Your reference to the film did give me some perspective on the cinematic value of music such as this. I appreciate that. There was no conscious subliminal additions to these songs, however the EP as a whole does contain a conscious manipulation of incidental phrases, meaning that accidental inclusions were adjusted with intent. Thank you for taking a listen to these songs and leaving your comment!

Hello GuyManDude, and thank you for the listen and comment on these songs! I am quite happy with the reception of this work since it was released, and really surprised as well. It felt very personal when performing, yet it seems to connect with other people as well, so that is the best thing I could expect! You ask, "How did you make those glitch fx?" I find it hard to answer, for the obvious reason that there is no specific sound identified. I can cite the involvement of my VC3T module for the first song, as it can spew forth seemingly random synthetic tone and voice glitches. Again, it is hard to specify. Since both of these songs were performed with all instruments interacting directly, the sounds can barely be taken singularly... you take out one instrument, and the others will change completely. The "work" on this EP was secondary to the the "need" and the "pleasure." Possibly it is this which allows others to connect to the result? Thank you very much for your words!

That opening bass with that synth percussion is awesome. You are taking this form of electronic minimalism to an incredible artistic place my friend. You are exploring the subtle harmonics of sound itself. 3:44 was like an intermission for the polyrythmic onslaught to come. I am almost hypnotised by this piece. I can´t look away, like it´s a bad car crash, but knowing this I still can´t look away. Prettiness in ugliness. Anxiety creating Zen. It´s so wrong and perverse but it´s compelling mentally and physically. @ 8:30 the Bassus Interuptus sort of brings us out of the trance and back to the first floor of life.
Well freaking done spiv........

Hey Crucethus, I'm very happy to be able to reply to you today. It's just a super positive day for me, and this is also one of the cooler comments I've received from you to date! Recording these songs, and the rest on the EP, was a completely new experience for me. It seemed to break down my own barriers to some extent, and I am very happy with reactions of my listeners so far. I really enjoyed performing with a different group of instruments for each song, it seemed to attach a memory to the song. Your car crash metaphor had significance to me, both for recent inspirations, and for distant past personal experiences. Needless to say, I do not drive, at all. "Faultline" is definitely one of my favorite works, especially of live recordings. "It´s so wrong and perverse but it´s compelling mentally and physically." - This to me suggests an adequate summation of modern human existence, and I respect this. The "Bassus Interuptus" (COOL cool song title idea BTW) you speak of was one of those "accidentally on purpose" moments for me... one thing which magnetic tape is so good for capturing. Sorry to ramble, it's just a good day. I think I sold instrument to a couple of well known US musicians in the last week... hopefully it pays for the legal fines! Thanks so much for the comment!

Hey buddy, it's nice to hear from you! Thank you for listening and leaving some words! The cinematic recommendation is definitely easy for me to understand. A decent amount of my very early work stemmed from a collection of demo tracks I made for a video game. My friend was going to program it, and I would make the music. It never materialized, and could have simply been kava dreams. Honestly, I have trouble watching modern film, in large part due to the poorly made sound tracks. If someone were to approach me with a film I believed in, may something would materialize. I've been temporarily "turned off" by some of my favorite musicians for their soundtrack work, for example Trent Reznor, however I support him doing what he likes. Either way, "Ghosts" and the related film work were my least favorite of his musical work. And then there is Mark Mothersbaugh, who can pretty much make any film into GOLD with his music. Ahh, but I'm rambling... I really appreciate your consistent support and visits to my profile! Trying to stay safe, but that ice is killer out there! Let's make 2017 better than 16, right?

That makes me feel good in a way, like I'm being at least a partially positive influence. I'm a pretty major psychonaut, but still I feel like I am more sober than most humans I meet in life. . . Like people are so repressed and over-medicated, that they can not even sense the obvious. It's hard to feel this way, but also rewarding. When people, such as those around this site, treat me like I'm not a complete nutter, it helps make it easier. Thank you so much for leaving your comfort zone for a few minutes!
