Thank you CatBrawl for the listen and comment! I see what you mean... I can think of some musicians who's influence can be heard, depending on which song from the EP I'm hearing, however it's not too obvious. I'm also lucky that these musicians are simply not that popular or well known these days. I've always been pretty weird, just have been embracing it more recently. The reactions to these songs encourage me to continue doing so! I appreciate it!
Thank you again! My holidays have been acceptable, as well as intense and frightening (as usual). They are not an ends to themselves, but a fleeting moment to strip away what is in myself, and which I no longer need. Sometimes the moment is missed, and I think I have *mostly* hit the mark. Your comment this work, and it's reception on this site in general, has surprised me. This surprise has given me a feeling of artistic license which I have not felt before. The mind opens, and in creeps Spivkurl.
Feels like I'm plugged straight into the board!..which in affect we are. I think many things are lost so to speak on the cutting room floor and it's why releases of unheard studio takes are popular. When you strip back all the production values of any music your likely to hear these days there's be a multitude of glitches, now seeing as this material is essentially electronic glitch I guess your well ahead of the curve!... interesting stuff, I couldn't listen to it for extended periods (mind you I have the same reaction to Classical, which I really like) however I dig the processes and jam spontaneity and "happening" aspect...When most of the dudes are paddling in the mainstream it's always good to see some brave soul going over the falls in a barrel wearing an alfoil hat!..cheers Dave ;)
Dave, it is great to hear from you regarding these two tracks! You make an interesting point about the "cutting room floor." It makes me wonder what other musicians, whether my peers or whatever, would get for results if they attempted something such as this. I can think about the vast majority of musicians whom I know, besides yourself and a few others, who would probably not be capable. This is not to say that they do not have the talent, but more it refers to the computer/software reliance, not to mention the probably lack of cassette equipment.,, many of them do not even have an instrument to lay their hands on. It's a bit sad to me, but something I try to accept. You are correct, this stuff is not meant for extended listening, but more like a microdose medicine... this is partly why I chose the thirty minute cassette for this project. I was most proud of keeping the process moving to achieve the seven recorded songs in two days. Whether they are good, bad, or something which needs a new adjective, it is still more creative output than I can usually achieve. Your comment made me think of the Primus track, "Over The Falls." They rock. Thank you for always taking a listen and letting me know what you think, it is good to have an accomplished musicians support! Have a good day/year!
Mate this track really surreal I mean it as a nice way of course.
It is captivating yet suborning your mind.
My hats off to you mate.
Brilliant work.
Jamid
Jamid, your comments are a constant reminder of why I keep coming back to Looperman! It seems like this is one of the few places where I can interact with like minded people, or at least people who understand what I'm doing. Your words do not go unappreciated! Even the person who inspired the EP, and was the first to receive a cassette copy, has not given even a simple reaction. Life is strange that way, those who drive us to create or act, are often not the ones who seize the moment or benefit from the acts. It helps me realize how it is the act of creation which is the most important, and less about where it comes from or where it goes. We can't predict our effects upon the world. Thank you!
It would be amazing to jam with you in person! Your creativity is endless. The sounds in Agonist Moon are unique and gritty. I love when the drums drop out and we go into Faultline. That song is brutal old school industrial sounding. Can't wait for the EP dude!
Hey buddy, it's good to have you visit my track! Your words are not lost on me, though I doubt the endlessness of my creativity... possibly it is still limited by the finite supply of fossil fuels, but I hope that will change. I've been trying to shift toward less power consumption, to that end. Agonist Moon is "gritty" mostly due to the instruments chosen... three of them - my DIY modular synth, a circuit bent V-Tech Music Major keyboard, and a circuit bent Casio SK-1... the tape deck played a big part in that one, as this hiss was used sort of as an instrument in relation to the S/N ratio. The drop our between is simply the end of side A and the beginning of side B, but without the continuity leader of side A. I'm happy that you could get through the first track to the second, as regardless of their intended togetherness, "Faultline" turned out pretty damn cool. I will try to get that EP encoded, I've just been procrastinating. Thank you so much for the listen and comment!
I am honored that you would listen more than once, and I thank you for it. I also appreciate the feedback. It is unlike most things I have done before, especially as a complete EP release. I hope that you have found the link to download the entire thing! Thank you very much!
Hello spivkurl,
uch! it's special, really special but i said that in the good sense of the term :)
it sounds like an "u.f.o". Each time you listen to it you discover some new details. Really interesting, abstract track so, only one word comes to me: ART
Thank you for listening to this! In cultures where "icaros" were a prominent healing device, aliens were also a common fixture, as far as I can tell. In a similar way, art was an important part of healing and life in general. I'm sitting here, hoping that the energy waves which are currently hitting the earth are either to heal all, or alternately to destroy. This world is in great need of hygiene, and humans are the crud between the teeth of the great yawning chasm. Happy that you enjoyed the listen! Hope that you have seen the option to download the entire EP!
Hi Spiv ! You always took on some extraordinary project which clearly shows your inventiveness and passion for being out of the ordinary. I respect this helluvalot! And therefore sometimes seems that the process of doing things takes the spotlight even more than the actual result. As a music producer myself I easily cope with that and I completely support your approach on the way to artistic fulfillment. I will be watching for the EP release...that's for sure!:)
Thank you Orlando for always being involved in the comments for my songs! You are a big part of this community for me, and I respect that. It seems that the further I delve into musical expression, the more I become wrapped up in the creative process. It also seems that the results, and the listeners reactions, become more pleasing to me. I am enjoying the confidence and freedom to feel that I can release something such as this, without deep concern about "fallout." (Except maybe radioactive fallout!). Either way, I always enjoy hearing what you have to say after hearing my work, and I thank you!
I can relate to the desperation, the frustration, the agonizing in the vocal. Given over 600 plays, someone else must be feeling this as well. congrats on great work Pat.
These are surely desperate times, and then the po po's and admins wonder why people are acting out in desperation! It is one of the few medicines left for a sick society. I had no idea this song would get played this much, since it's over 700 now! Soundcloud is so pathetic now... this song has 13 plays there... just sayin'! It's always a pleasure to have you visit one of my songs, and I'm looking forward to seeing what's new on your profile.
Damn this track is a journey on its own. From the hasty highway through the industrial part of the town straight to the central station and back again! The constant flow of the modulation gives this track a lot of energy. The vocal breaks are very smart implented to keep teh track interesting all 6 minutes long. Nice work!
Hey mudhoen! Thank you for taking a listen to this one and leaving your words! Had a blast recording this one, and it was quite cathartic as well. The song captured a moment in time pretty successfully, which is not always easy to do within the confines of a DAW. Been having an interesting time rehabilitating from all the years of virtual sound, and I think it is helping me grow as an artist. I really appreciate you stopping by!
Feels like I'm on an Autobhan and someone's superglued the accelerator wide open...or is this an automatic reaction to the inevitable political fallout brewing stateside...whatever it is there's definitely some gear crunching going on, man this is in a totally manic modulation zone, some super fluctuating grooves which get hyper convoluted yet bounce into that sweet spot enough to keep the continuity honest, for a live recording it's awesome Pat, I hope no neighbours were injured during this performance ;).....I think your music is coming from your id as in Forbidden Planet, I see the steps to the music room bending under an invisible force, though there are no bad vibes here...Pat Morbius..has a nice ring to it! haha..you are one off the wall musician man and the world is a better place for it!...cheers Dave :)
Hello Dave, and thank you for this awesome comment! I'm thinking that the whole situation which led to this recording has much to do with whatever they were spraying aerially in the weeks leading up to the election. We would hear the planes, then see the time release clouds, then there would be "cloud" cover for days, and all you could do was hear the planes. Each time the planes made their repeated passes, within an hour or less we would start to hear emergency vehicle sirens, and we would begin to feel the not so subtle neurological effects. One such time, a woman drove into parked cars across the street, pressing five cars against each other. As the election approached, I got the distinct impression that the spraying would break after we voted. Bang! After the election, clear skies for days, and winter could begin. Still I fear that the hardships are yet to come, at least personally. ... Since I was doing vocals, everything was monitored through headphones, so if a neighbor heard something, it was those raw vocals. Your words - "I see the steps to the music room bending under an invisible force, though there are no bad vibes here..." definitely strike a chord, and they bring to mind "Ray Bradbury Theatre" I've been watching those over again recently, and the introduction, where he describes his "toy shop" and "alien landscape" where he draws his ideas from - they make me think of my studios and the process I've been moving toward. I really appreciate the feedback, as always. If I could fave comments, this would be one of them! Thank you!
This is actually really cool although I never listen to this kind of music (alsmost never). I totally love the fuzzy sound. It's brilliant, and the vocals really spice it up, would have loved them in the middle with some doubler on the sides maybe but totally like the fuzzy sound.
The breakdowns are pure electricity! The rhythm is alert and I like that a lot, it sounds like it's pushing you forward and then dragging you back.
Funny how so much distortion and fuzzyness can work so well together! Actually reminded a bit of The Prodigy...don't ask why. There's a lot of groove in there!
Hey Mahloo! Thank you so much for the kind and supportive comments on this track! I am humbled by the reaction of many of the users here, and it gives me drive to do more along this line. The rhythms and the breaks were definitely what told me that this was the take, and that I needn't go any further, so I'm glad you liked what you heard as well. I really appreciate the listen and the fave!!!
Hello Spivkurl,
this sounds really like -back in time-
If i had heard this one in the beginning of the 80's i bet that it would played by many of my friends and me very often and very loud.
This tune has this special feeling of a need for changes on so many levels in the system. The vocals/lyrics is a kind of a war cry against everything and all. That is something i really love.
Very wild, very free and sure very unique.
Good to know that this kind of revolution against -normality- is still alive! The fact that you played it all live brings all a level higher......
Really great stuff. And with the words of -die Antwoord- i have to say:
I fink u freeky but i really like it!
Joe, thank you for your kind words! It seems like you definitely understand where I was coming from while recording this song. Seems that I can always count on you for support, and I appreciate that! "This tune has this special feeling of a need for changes on so many levels in the system." - That really said it all for me, as this "need" is part of all of my days. Life has become so strange and artificial feeling... I can't even imagine how much worse it is in a larger city! I will continue to work (too) hard, in my own (small) way to change things for the better. I just can't seem to get this experience of a convergence of energy from DAW based work lately... and computers are starting to just be an annoyance in general, at least much of the time. Stay tuned for something off my cassette EP, hopefully later today! Thanks much!
Heh, haven't heard "chop and screw" for a little bit of time! Honestly, this was a live and a bit spontaneous, so I can't fully explain how the swing worked out. The Beatstep and Monotribe had a lot to do with it, and the 2xKawa has been noted by some very experienced friends as possessing a lot of swing by nature. It was the inspiration that made this work out, I needed to do it, and so it was done. Thank you for listening and leaving a comment!
I like the glitchyness in this one. Dynamics are way better then my track I just uploaded on here... yeesh... I can only imagine how many times you had to practice this to get it perfect. Great work!
Hey thank you for listening and leaving a comment! The practice wasn't too bad, since it went from idea to completion in just a few days. Having the instruments and the idea both at hand, the rest went pretty well. Happy to read your words! I will return the favor in a moment!
I like this one. If I had to describe it to someone who has never heard your work, I would tell them to imagine as if Nivek Ogre and Mothersbaugh founded RevCo. Not to minimize your creative talents by comparing, but rather to say your abilities sit in good company.
I like the sense of urgency in this. It's like a manic feasting, or compulsive consumption.
I'm still amazed at your abilities to use full analogue. I might be able to figure out how to produce a sound. (singular), but I'd definitely get lost trying to figure out routing, and patching. Therefore, I have a healthy respect for your work. I tip my hat to you, sir.
Hey there! It's good to hear from you! I've been slow in replying while on other projects lately. Trust me, the artist comparisons which you used are complimentary, and not taken as any sort of insult! What you describe is bit how it felt in practice and recording this song... it did feel quite urgent to make this song happen before it was too late.
It seems that I take things too literally. When people speak about me using "full analog," I get the urge to mention all the aspects of it which were not analog. Things are different these days, and it seems accepted that any hardware besides a computer is analog, so I am trying to adapt. I do appreciate your amazement though. This song was musically very about routing and patching... I hope to do many more in this fashion.
Yep, that was a very "goosebumply" week... chemicals dripping from the "clouds", woman screaming in pain on the ground, strange lights in the sky... you know the drill. Happy that you enjoyed the listen! Thank you for taking time to leave a comment!
Hey Spivkurl, you are probably one of the most experimental artist on the loop. You've always been the rule breaker in a great way. You actually gave a positive comment on a track of mine a while back which was a very pleasant surprise. Don't change your artistry. Continue to artistically distrupt the norm. I expect nothing less than game changing from you.
Hey, your comment is much appreciated, and I apologize for taking so long to respond! Your compliments make me happy this morning. You may be right about things, as we never quite see ourselves in the way that others can see us... Over the years, I have tended to create arbitrary rules for myself, taking cues from real life and my efforts to control my actions. Like in real life, when rules become to stringent, the urge to break them becomes overwhelming, and shit explodes. I figure that in music, the same could happen... so now breaking these rules I have built for myself will allow me to continue without hurting myself or others... and to wait for the opportune time to break rules in real life. Been ultra productive, but less social, so not on the Loop as often. I do have a new direct to cassette tape EP recorded, which a song or two may end up on here soon. Built some new instruments as well, which will show up in later works I'm sure. Thank you for your support and the great comment! Please have a good day!
i hear some interesting things..

Well, my feet are on the ground again..

i made a new track and i used some of your loops.

Hey buddy! Thanks for taking a listen to this one! Apologies for taking so long to reply! Happy that you enjoyed the journey... it has been interesting to work live lately for sure... a different experience. Next upload will probably be from a direct to cassette tape EP which I did over the full moon in November. Seven songs in two days! Hope you are well! I will be trying to find the song you mentioned in a moment. Take care!
Hey Pat , one of the guys here mentioned this reminds him of System of a Down. Never having heard them work i went over to YT and had a listen to "Chop Suey" and i was blown away by that track it has about 46 million hits incredible. In your track i like the angst i like the pain and i like to hear anger i always think nothing good comes to anyone except through PAIN which in turn leads to GROWTH. Excellent stuff best regards Robbie.
Hey Robbie! Thank you for giving this track a listen! I apologize for having been absent lately... it's been a hard time, with much stress and illness. Things will get better, and I won't forget about those stems you sent. You are right about pain, and that is an optimistic way to think about it. Please have a good day!
Thanks buddy! It's good to hear from you! Building a new instrument as we speak, just waiting for some paint to dry. It should fit in nicely with this performance aspect I'm driving at. I'm happy you liked what you heard!
I applaud your creativity. Not really my style of music but i'm open minded. The drum cadence is almost like a army of soldiers marching in my mind. 3:51 I needed that release because my mind was beginning to spin. But all in all I'm impressed with your arrangement and your thought process. Those synths are cool and the vocals almost remind me of like a scary movie or something. Not really familiar with the genre so I can't compare it to anything. But kudos to your 2 track. Peace & Blessings.
Industrial is definitely a big listening preference for me, and I definitely like to create it as well... though this is not exactly my style either. I say this since I haven't done a completely live track with vocals for well over a decade. I think of live oriented industrial as being a fairly different thing from what much of industrial has become in recent years, in the same was as I think of most other genres. Some peep behind a computer and a stack of VSTs can barely consider themselves a performer, and most genres are far more potent when they are performed. I'm happy that you enjoyed what you heard overall, and I appreciate that you took a walk outside of your comfort zone! Thanks!
Love the intro to this one, liking the drive to this track mate, contagious groove and vibe about it, definitely has your signature sound flowing from within, great vocals my friend, nicely distorted fitting in great with sound of the mix, nice clarity and arrangement...fav...mosaic...PS hope all is going okies with you my friend, not heard from you for a bit now, you are in my thoughts mate for sure, will try and email over weekend...Respect friend...mos...
Hey friend, good to hear from you! As you can probably tell from this track, life has been a bit frightening and painful of late... and saying "a bit" is being optimistic. I've been working hard to hone my skills at performing entire songs live on my own, since it really is the ideal for a multi-instrumentalist such as myself... plus it will give me that much more power when Love and I get back to work on Iris-T-Shirt tunes, since we did a lot of things live. Beneath it all, I'm doing okay, aside from continuing legal issues. I should get my bankruptcy certificate in the next couple of weeks, so that will be nice. Still hopeful that I won't be sent to jail in January... Been working hard on various projects, such as putting up a nice stylish fence in our side yard, making the house more secure, and harvesting some nice produce and herbs... raspberries in November in Minnesota is not normal at all (goes out to those still in denial of the drastic change in climate). Thanks for taking a listen, and leaving your always supportive words! I will try to keep in touch better!
vocal clip is classic spivkurl angst and well mixed into the track. i heard from Alex (promenade) recently. He is experimenting a lot with MicroKorg. I thought about your unique sound creations, well evidenced here, when reviewing Alex's samples. All inpsiring me to journey out into less familiar soundscapes. Regards.
Thanks for stopping by to listen! The vocal clip was all live, but each track was recorded individually so that I could do a subtle final mix. I also just received a communication from Alex where he mentioned his microkorg... I do like that synth despite it's shortcomings. Been using it since 2002 or so, about the time it came out. I think it is still the only synth that I've ever purchased new. The DWGS waveforms (a'la DX7 and other FM synths) on it are a nice touch, which expand the vintage vibes and can give a reasonable organ sound. I'm happy that you enjoyed listening to this one! I am working hard to hone my live skills again, and hope to do more in this vein once I finish my new instrument build... you know me, I'm easily distracted by hands on stuff. Thanks buddy!
