I'm guessing this is a track designed with a future rap in mind. I enjoyed the jazz vibes and can hear some other elements added like maybe some horns. [wrote that before I read your description haha] Have you written vocals to it?
thanks brother. ive been writing a ton of new stuff. im trying to get a release done by the end of Autumn. i'll keep you posted and, of course, post tracks here.
Your mix has a lot of dynamic range meaning the difference between the highest and lowest volume elements. It's good to have a decent amount of dynamic range. When you compress it the difference becomes less so your mix becomes louder and the low volume elements comeout. You can see the waveform of songs made by professionals and then probably you will be able to better understand what i was saying.Panning certain elements is also one option for mixing. But that entirely depends on you.
I am no pro at mixing and mastering but I have understand some stuff so i just told what i thought. Hope it helped.
it's a decent track some elements don't come out as they should maybe a better mixing and mastering can make it a better track. i don't like the awkward silence around 2:22 and the ending I don't think there is a need to just slowly decrease the volume and end the track.
thats so much. the silence between the verses was meant to have some spoken word, but it never came to me. i was thinking of messing with some movie or spoken word samples and see what comes of it. what do you suggest, as far as bringing out certain elements within the mix?
Hi there. I don't mind posting a comment but I usually do so after I'm done with the project. It's not a biggie but it would deter some from downloading this to help out. Besides that, I'm going to try some different drum tracks and I'll get back to you when I'm done.
Pros:
1. the music composition is bada$$
2. the lyrics are mediocre but...
3. your hard-hitting flow redeems them for replay action
4. great job in making the melody stand above the bassline (it's getting a bit stale hearing other people's track after track of 80% kick & sub-bass)
Cons:
1. one minute lead-in to the vocals had me questioning: "does he mean this is an instrumental about blah-blah"
2. vocals were under the music and not on top
Over-all its superior to most the crap on Soundcloud.
thanksso much for the feedback. i am remixing the vocals this weekend, adding a little reverb and volume, as well as some ambient spoken word that will float in the far background of the intro.
as far as the lyrics being mediocre, i beg to differ, but it's your opinion and i have to respect it. did you read them on the lyrics tab?
either way, thanks so much for the feedback and feel free to check out my other projects on this site.
Great song. I like your lyrical style and the way you tackle profound or ambiguous subjects with such ease. Now, I may be wrong, but I think the vocals aren`t "wide" enough. Everything in the instrumental feels just as it should, but I think adding a bit of reverb to make the vocals a bit wider in the stereo field would glue everything together nicely.
thanks for the feedback. i am going to shorten the intro, and i actually agree with your 1st statement. the vocals do need to come up a bit, and in my opinion need a little de-essing or warmth. thanks again for the listen and the feedback, brother!
Nice track, I like the vibe. Very unique beat, in a good way! Vocals could be a little louder maybe, but there's not really any mixing problems that I could find other than at 2:24 when the beat comes back in the first hit is really loud. I also would have started the vocals a little sooner. Good rap though!
I listened through before beginning my comment, and Your words and delivery got me high by the end. This is, as far as rap goes, about as good as it gets! Definitely the kind of rap I chose to listen to, and purchase. Extremely effective and potent. Fine schtuff! Thank you for the DL! Fave!
thanks dude! I knew that when i was done with and ready to UL to Looperman that you would be one of the people to 'get it' and enjoy it for the diversity.
i have a few more that i will be adding this weekend and the coming days with a similar feel. i lookforward to getting your feedback!
Hey Mike..digging this man, I quite like the slightly distorted vocals actually, they lend a television drama series backing track vibe, it's got that dark feel very film noir, your bridging the gap man between rock, rap and contemporary flair, it's also interesting to note that while some have found the filtered vocals not quite clear enough it's always a question of what particular sound fits any given groove and in this case it dovetails in nicely....great word a second flow as per usual big thumbs up mate...cheers Dave
I had full intentions of using the distortion on my vocals for this track when i started writing the music for it. the original vocals are much different, but this acapella just 'fit' with the track so well that i left it. I think the biggest issue with the filtered vocals is that i AM spitting a word a second and some people will have to go back a few times to hear what i'm saying. i see that as a good thing. these words should be heard a few times to let them all resonate. i was thinking of writing an entire EP using this 'band' that i created for this track. what do you think?
Not my usualy kind of music but i really like it and from a side of someone whos no expert i can hear no mistake inside at any place ..reminds me in some parts at blur song 2
The subbass layers seem a bit conflicting, like they are a little too rumbly. Not sure why that is, but once that is fixed, I can't find much more criticism on the mixdown. Of course, if it were me, I would have had the lyrics a little clearer, but your mic may not be of a high enough quality so going with the distorted effect may have been a good choice!
This sounds like Kid Rock, or Monster Magnet, maybe if you want to make it commercial you need a catchy hook with a chorus, both the music and rap are good quality
Btw, I've listened it with cheap MP3 in ear thingies as well as a quality studio headphone. Maybe I should have done the cheap in-ears first, and then the headphone. But i've noticed no differences as my reply above except the simple audio quality of my hardware. :)
At first, I was like, 'Wait, wut, does the icecream man drives by?' I had to adjust to it for a moment but that is more caused of me switching from my hard house project to this all of a sudden.
This track is SICK! It really brought me in a inner chillax state of peace and hormony. Kept listening it 6/7 times in a row!
This track sounds in perfect harmony. The instrumental and vocals make love together. There is a little crackling, best noticeable at the beginning. But I think thats part of the nice vintage kind of sound? I don't know how to say it in a better word but I think you'll understand haha. I had to get comfortable with it at first but actually its very nice.
Further feedback, the drums are all good.
At 1:08/1:14/1:120/1:23/2:16 etc. there comes a sound in which I cannot directly name. Sort of trumpet one but not like the awesome 1:16 trumpet/trombone a-like sound. That does seems to compress the vocals and bit of the rest at those few moments. (only SLIGHTLY) That being said, its only a innie minnie thing. Without that, or maybe turning it a tick more down does potentially the trick.
