Nice to know the genre is nicely portrayed here with this track. It always gives me a little chuckle when the term is used and the track doesn't come close to actually being "fusion." I'm a huge fan of Weather Report, and this track sure reminds me of them...Love it!
Hey mate good to see you buddy!..I'm downloading some of your tracks that I'll be playing in an interview on LoopRadio coming up soon,I'll be talking amongst other things about you and how much I dig your music and also the collaborations we've done together..I'll send you the link when it will be aired...I'm also sending you a new track soon mate..you rock Detlef my friend!...cheers Dave :)
nice to stumble on a planetjazzbass track this a.m. like that star-trek-like vocal hit early on. I felt the split second setup into some more traditional changes right before the sax solo and that was very smooth and beautiful subtle color change. low mix awesome. peace. regards. Dan
I like finding these old gems hidden in the Looperman archive...
I listened to this after hearing Psychotropic's version: your version is more a "song" in the classical sense. MrPC has "spread" some jazzy-feeling over it, which provided a completely different result.
I love both versions!
Well done (but I was expecting nothing less by our MrPJB!)
Ciao, Domenico
Went looking through your page for one with fewer comments made already, and came across this one... luckily it wasn't one that I had already faved! I've kind of gotten away from listening to ambient stuff lately, but this one totally crosses genres, which is one of the things I like about your music. Very unusual sounds you've incorporated here, which make me wonder what the hell they are! I like the title as well - makes me think of the feeling I have when walking by the elementary school down the street when everyone is idling in their cars waiting to pick up the kids. Whilst choking, I pick up my pace to escape the monoxide cloud which covers more than a block... then I reach the end and there at the edge of the cloud... a gas station... ha ha. Anyway, it was a a very cool piece!
Hey Rei,man that's the best compliment you could possibly give! :)..we really must do some music together and get some of that fantastic Rei guitar into the mix mate!..I know your a busy family man now though hopefully this new year we can squeeze in a track (or two)..have a wonderful and safe Christmas mate..all the best to your lovely family.... Dave :)
Hey, really creative jammin tune here! I like the autheniticity of the performances within. Was looking on your page for something newer, but I'm assuming you are deep in your bass build at the moment... I know how that goes. Glad I'm hearing this one though, as it's quite fun yet a bit sad sounding... admittedly sounding a bit vintage at this point too...heh. You are a very good performer and composer! Respect my friend!
hi Dave
We are moving forward with our Entwicklung..lol
Maybe we should have a complete album to upload to Reverbnation under a band name.
Thank you for cooperation
Zappo
Hey mate..Merry Christmas!..yes we need to do an album,I don't know much about Reverbnation but sure we can do that,my bass is nearing completion and will sound better (I hope!lol)..always love playing with you man!!...Dave :)
Wow Dave, you really took your music to a new level. You three are all extremely accomplished musicians and it shows here. The composition is amazing, not to mention the production. I'm not sure I could ever write something like this(i'm not worthy, lol) and listening to this just makes me a bit envious of your writing and arranging skills. The bass has a great tone, this is your frankenbass, right?
From Zappo's incredible guitar to Slap's tasty sax, the overall feel and mood has a sweet flow. The drums keep the steady rhythm but the song takes on some interesting personalities as it goes.
What more can I say that many have already stated? Simply an awesome fusion track. Congrats on a successful collab fellas!
Hey mate, sorry for the late reply...thank you so much for your kind words, yes this is the bass I made (which is undergoing a total body metamorphose as we speak (as I type! lol)..bass tone, bass tone it's my grail I think haha...I was watching an old Spaghetti Western awhile back and thought,Wayne and I could write a better sound track! lol (which is true)..thank you again for taking the time to listen mate...cheers from Dave,Detlef and Steve. :)
Haha..that's ok mate, thank you very much for the positive review, live music rocks!..while this piece was actually played from Australia,Germany and the U.K...we're all plugged into the same groove so to speak...cheers mate! Dave :)
No more clever words as the others before me told you everything!
There is nothing like the magic of the live music!
Only for this fact I take my hat off, but this superb instrumentation and that magical bass play and tone offer the 5 stars for this production!!!
This is revelation! It is simply wonderful and a joy to behold. Firstly the talent that is evident in the playing is outstanding. Real musicianship abounds and is illustrated by tasteful playing and amazing sounds. The arrangement is superb and added to the fact that the players are not competing for space gives the end result a great feel and sounds excellent.
Sometimes when I look through tracks here on the Loop and then look at members profiles (oh did I say that out loud?) I see postings within days of each other. When you listen to it you sort of know why too. It is always plain to see (and hear) that your music is "crafted" and has had love and care in it's construction. At a time when making music can be almost instant for some it is reassuring to know there are those who prefer to rely on skill, knowledge, talent and artistic flair to create something over a period of time that deserves to be listened to.
Top track Dave - applause to all the guys concerned.
Hey Richie thanks mate!....like you I always try to get every element heard within a mix (sometimes better, sometimes worse though! lol)...I think a lot of producers suffer because they think of music as 'product' rather than process,I also think their compromised from not having the benefit of growing up listening to a vast spectrum of different music like you and I have..boom,boom,boom will only get you so far! haha..again thanks for your support mate it means a lot!...cheers Dave :)
Hey Plantjazzbass,
I had never heard of fusion before. (although I do play guitar and trumpet in my school's jazz band) It was really interesting to hear the whole dynamic of funk, rock, and jazz blended into one song. I really liked the saxophone improv; I thought you did a great job using dynamics to keep every note interesting, along with superb phrasing to keep me guessing where you would go next. The guitar solo was great! (I have a rock background with guitar) It had a perfect amount of distortion, reverb and delay to keep it smooth, yet really in your face and punchy. Overall great track! Looking forward to see what other Fusion songs you put out!
Hey mate....thank you very much for your great review!..I tend to categorise a lot of my work under fusion, not so much because it contains many different styles (though this track does shoehorn nicely within that description) but mainly because that's what used to be an offshoot genre of jazz or jazz rock....again thanks for the listen and thumbs up mate,be on your page soon!...all the best Dave :)
hi again, the other day I had a chance to hear this improvised track from slapjohnson with his guitar and sax made in 10min! I love his works. I am just curious what would you actually consider as a 'fusion' genre. For me it's definitely 70's jazz/rock/funk mixture like Mahavishnu Orchestra (my favourite band), Wheather Report, Al di Meola and like. But somehow I find that this term is used for a 'world' music in general when combining many musical styles.
Anyway I love improvised music and your track sounds great!
I will write you a message so we could keep in touch for the collaboration. Here's my newest fusion song: https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/161996 just to let you know how I work - it's quite jazzy. Best to you, Alex
Hey Simon..many thanks from myself,Detlef and Steve for your positive thumbs up mate!...I did spend a fair amount of time mixing this little devil (I love my Auratones! lol) and getting a pass from a pro like yourself means a lot mate!....going to be plugging in the router shortly, expect some pics!...cheers Dave :)
Hey Mark...thanks buddy, very much appreciate the thumbs up mate!..be heading over to your ranch very shortly to sample (no not the HipHop ripoff kind! lol)the audio offerings..cheers mate Dave :)
