Hey there, I've been wanting to listen to this since you posted the thread, and I'm happy that I did! I have to mention that I was a little shocked at the parallel ideation with my recent track - to see a title with the words "In The Past," and then the "Future" which was used almost to much in that track's lyrics... I realize there is no plagiaristic intentions of course, it just gave me something to ponder. To me, the bass in this track is definitely what shines the most. Your performance and tone is always something to enjoy deeply. The rest of the song borders a bit closely on cinematic for my tastes, but I can hear the effort and talent that went into it. It seems to be an unusual collaboration style for you, so it's cool you are trying different things. I like the sound quality and mixing very much, so good work there. Highly interesting work!
Hey Pat,thanks man!......I really wish we all lived within reach of each other,I'm sure if we did some amazing projects would materialize, film, music, instruments, art and the like..I can see myself rolling around to your place to learn some electronics theory maybe!..sometimes people are on the same wavelength and thinking about similar concepts, structures and ideology albeit that they are thousands of miles apart and have no conscious communication, somethings happening man ,maybe our brain waves are leaking out via computer monitors or usb ports! lol...cheers mate Dave and Detlerf
I just picked up a fresh cup of coffee and settled in to listen to this amazing piece of art. Those of us who know Zappo's work know he is a genius, and it is tracks like this that illustrate just how talented he is. Then when you jump in and add your tremendous talent on bass, well it really is a wonderful adventure for all of us.
This track has so many nuances that it is a lesson in theory, composition, and execution. Fantastic job to both of you. I'm going to shut up now, sit back, and enjoy both my coffee and this great tune. Well done gents. I hope all is well.
Hey Bear, thanks buddy!...Zappo is well versed in contemporary folk lore, which unsurprisingly forms the corner stone of European development, while here downunder we've been subsiding on old wives tales and vegemite for our cultural edification! (lol)...thank god for music which invariably has shaped all our lives for the better, and thank the powers that be for the internet where we can meet like minded 'tuned' people such as your good self!...all the best Dave and Detlef :)
Greetings from the west, mate this is very nice, listening to it with headset, have to say filling out the head room very well, nice bass, nice flowing beat, sax is stunning, excellent guitar in this one, this one takes you a pleasurable journey...Great work my friend...Really enjoyed the listen...Fv...Peace n Respect Dave...Mosaic...
Wow, dat bass line is so oldschool and I love it :) Really groovy. I'd definitely love to hear someone spit a verse or two on this one haha. Those horns are extremely lovely btw :P You never disappoint me haha.
Mate interesting piece, when it first started reminded me of a James Bond film, even the pink panther sound...Brilliant clarity mate, sort of agree with Richie, does sound like a couple of genre's, but mate you have them working together perfectly, nothing to fault here friend...Hope you doing okies on the east coast...Fav Dave...Peace n Respect...Mosaic...
Well, this is really an amazing fusion of many and several genres here. Even a nod to hip hop (are you feeling OK?) As ever a great sounding track and your bass playing never fails to impress.
PJB goes gansta! I would never have believed it - but it works beatufully. Great stuff. Hope all is well with you.
Hey Richie, thanks mate!...I left this piece pretty wide open so vocals could be added later,WordyBum has done some great verses for this track and I'll be uploading it shortly...I'm using a PBass with flatwounds here something I don't often do being more a JBass guy,but when a track needs that full mellow thump flats rule!....Man we have to do a track sometime, unfortunately I think Pat has hung up her singing shoes, but there's plenty of other stuff we can do. lol....thanks again mate..I see your back on the skins with your band now, seriously I don't know anyone who can play guitar, bass and drums separately at a professional level, most drummers I've met can't even read! lol...your an amazing muso! Dave :)
This is really cool, almost that 007 feel but then not really because
your twist in flavour and "I Like It"...
Very tastefully done...
I'd like to mess around with this and see, what I could come up with
if that's OK with you...
I'd drop you a line, before I let it fly...
Hi Soundhound,by all means lay some lyrics on it man, thank you for dropping by,HipHop (well what I take for HipHop) is an interesting genre that's for sure...all the best Dave :)
Great track.
Took me back to the 1970's cop and crime tv stuff.
You're a very talented man who I can finally thank ... for loops I've downloaded.
Thank you.
I always forget names I'm afraid and always fail to mention and thank the people who supplied the loops.
I love your stuff and have used quite a bit of it.
Great rack this with great mood.
I will no longer forget your name as this goes in my favs.
I'm totally unqualkified to to comment on most of the stuff on here other than having ears and being a music consumer and a messerabouter.
Don't people like you ever send your stuff off to the BBC or whoever?
Hey Silverman thanks mate!..I'm no HipHop aficionado but I can feel a groove, the genre appeals to me because I've always liked spoken word music and see HipHop as an extension of that,I need to correct you on one point though about using the term 'unqualified'.Good heavens man your an expert in your own tastes, too often so called experts have an ulterior motive behind their prognostications...The thing about music these days is there's just so much of it about, and the industry is only interested in fully packaged goods, that is looks, sex appeal, market niche and lastly sound! lol..thanks for dropping by mate! cheers Dave :)
I bet you've been wearing that beret in your avatar a little more crooked these days homie. Sounds a bit like the old tv series Dragnet theme song at about 1:10, what is the significance of that? ;)
Very cool bass, nice runs at around 3:20, hot stuff. I believe once you understand music, the boundaries are limitless, genres blend and merge and one's personality and skill starts to come through. This is your interpretation of hip hop, more power to you Dave, it shows how talented and knowledgeable about music you are.
I hope someone bites on this and some vocals get put on.
Hey Wayne..thanks buddy, the vocal track is nearly completed care of Wordybum (who incidentally is the real deal when it comes to rapping) I'll be posting it shortly, actually that little Dragnet run is exactly the same riff as a Weather Report song I was listening to the other night but with totally different accents and sounds as spacey as hell(can't remember the name of it at the moment though! lol)..I have a feeling I'll be posting quite a few tunes in a quasi HipHop style...cheers mate Dave :)
Dave....what has become of you....haha...I honestly dont feel bad any more for layering in those hip hop beats with many of the mixes I do....I thought it was a secret..but damned if they dont add some nice extra kick stuff etc to most any down tempo effort...This could be the sound track for one of those spy movies...but that extra tasty bass you do could detract folks from the pictures....you d`man...right on (guess thats not a hip hop expression is it).,,,Cheers.....Ed
Hey Ed sorry for the late reply buddy, yeah mate I also like the actual beat side of HipHop and as far as I'm concerned it's all fertile territory rich for exploitation, even as I type the vocal side of this track is nearly finished thanks to Wordybum (who by the way has insane flow and is as sharp as a tack, supreme spit skills in evidence!...hell I'm picking up the lingo (haha)...if you can't beat em join em isn't strictly the case here,I've always liked spoken word material so I guess HipHop qualifies, though shortly I'm going to start messing with different time signatures and we'll see how they like that!..cheers mate..be on your page shortly....Dave :)
i hope you like it. a rough draft for some insight and feedback - i totally dug rhyming over this one. there's still room for one more verse if anyone else wants to get on it. https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/166483
Sick track Planet! It has such a groovy vibe to it. I really liked the bassline and the drums. It also has kind of a jazzy feel to it. The mix sounds on point too. This one's a Fav and its downloaded. Thanks for posting this, it was a very enjoyable listen. Truly nice work.
Hey man thanks for the listen, any compliment coming from you is very much appreciated!..there's been a sort of osmosis happening to me as far as HipHop is concerned and thanks to dudes such as yourself I'm starting to feel it the way a person should on a musical level..cheers mate Dave
LAWD HAM & CHEESE! Who are you, and what have done to Dave? Where he at? LOL. Seriously, this is quite fabo! The horns are sexy, and that bass!!! The dark side should be so lucky!!!
Hey Mykael, sorry for the late reply mate...yes it is I! trying on a new pair of shoes is always interesting,I guess there's going to be some fusion happening between me and HipHop,hopefully I won't get too messed up! haha..but maybe it might end up the other way around..you never know...cheers mate Dave :)
Hey Dave, I haven't been by for a while, so I wandered by to check out what you've been up to, and what do I find?
You've temporarily gone over to the dark side to give the younguns a taste of their own medicine, haha.
Great bass work, but I expect nothing less from you. Extremely solid track from start to finish. I would believe the kids would be coming out of the woodwork to "spit" all over this one. Did I say that the bass work is just so damn good?
Once again you prove that a real musician can do anything, and do it well. 10 out of 10 on this number. Keep bangin' bro.....or whatever they say. I hope all is well.
Hey Bear thanks man!good to see you around buddy......I've always liked HipHop drums, well most bass players like a variety of rhythm styles I guess,I have been guilty of being a little caustic towards the urban crowd in the past so while I'm not going over to the dark side(lol)I will be making an attempt to meet them half way musically and adopt a more positive stance, though I'm just an old dog who is pretending to learn new tricks I still have a thing or two up my sleeve! haha...thanks for your endorsement mate it means a lot to me!..all the best my friend..Dave
Very nice work. there's a story to be told on this track. i'm totally digging it's flow and vibe. The bass line is great, the Stabs are on point and overall it makes me want to rhyme.
Thanks man,if you want the track in wav.send me your email and I'll post a download link (90bpm)..glad you liked it man, more to come that's for sure...cheers Dave
You be kickin' it. It da bomb, da shit, da funky stuff. Much dopeness here, aiiit?
Now I'm a switch shit up back to da propr mother English tung stuff they lernd me at skool as I gets down to bizness:
I was surprised by your synth work here. Very reminiscent of 80s slammin hip hop. Before the later gangsta stuff, though some of that is awesome. Definitely an imposing synth intro and then it just goes on and on, guiding the whole track.
Bass is, unsurprisingly, cool and rumbling nicely away.
Little jazzy bass chords (?) early on give this some character.
And you're getting gongy right at the end, just for fun. And swooshy.
Seems quite a short track because it's fairly minimal, not involving many elements.
Might work best as a bit of soundtrack music. Perhaps a film/TV theme tune.
Overall: nice work showcasing your hip hop bro skills, bro.
Sup my man,I know more pigeon English than street lingo (my all time favorite being 'Jesus Christ MixMaster' for helicopter!)definitely designed for some rapping on this tune so kept things pretty minimalistic,if that happens I'll probably add a few more high frequency sound bytes here and there depending on the vibe of the flow (maybe)....I've always seen HipHop as a genre that needs to expand,I'd like to do some stuff that breaks out of the traditional 4/4 mold and 3 to 4 minute time span, would it still be HipHop?....thanks for the listen man got some more HipHop in my head I just hope I don't bend it too much to be unacceptable to the aficionados..they might shot me!...cheers Dave
Thanks Alex, just turned my hat around to play this(no I didn't!lol)..thanks for the listen mate, glad you enjoyed it,getting more time for my music now so things will be hotting up (even though winter is approaching here)..all the best Dave
Yeah!!i like it man!!jazzy!!and jazzy is awesome!!old school kinda vibe here!!back in the 90z .Guru from Gangstar a rapper who receantly passed away!!was famouse for his Jazz style hip hop!!im sure he would have enjoyed this my friend!!!i did!!
exellant job man!!
Hey Bonez thanks mate!...Love to hear you rap on this man (track is 90bpm) send me your email and I'll send a download link to the track in wav. format.....(or you can send me your vocals and I'll mix them in,whatever suits you)...guys like you and the old school rap crowd showed me the difference between what works and what doesn't..old school rules!..cheers man Dave
