Shoe Gaze - JAI26

3rd Aug 2026 15:07 - 1 month ago
Description : I took a closer look at bandlab this weekend and tried recording my guitar directly into it. I found a guitar sound called Shoe Gaze that I really liked. That sound brought this piece of music out of me. I had a drum track initially but wasn't happy with it so I turned it off this morning and immediatly had a much stronger emotional respone to the music. So I knew I was done at that point and didn't want to make any more changes. I have no idea what genre this is. Track is 79bpm Fmin

It's beautiful as it is, JAI26, melancholic and deeply emotional. The instruments are kept subtly present yet vibrant when needed, and the expressive sound you have used is, I think, a big part of what makes this track so successful.
Best regards, Anthony

The emotion really came through, and I honestly didn't miss the drums. But now that you've mentioned them, I'm curious to hear how that version would've sounded. Either way, this is a really cool piece, JR!

Hey Ricahrd - Thanks for giving it a listen. Trust me it was better without at least my drums. I'm sure one of the drum masters on this site could do something with nice and I'm always open to people messing around with my tracks. That's why I am going to start posting BPM and key going forward. I've seen Flat2Forge do that and I'm going to follow his example.

Cutting out the drums was definitely the right call, it lets the emotion in those guitars and strings breathe so much more! That "Shoe Gaze" preset has a really lush, ambient atmosphere, and the composition feels deeply cinematic. Sometimes keeping it simple creates the strongest response. Beautiful piece, James!

I think so too. I almost pulled the synth completely out but decided I needed it to get me through the 1:40 area. But I did try to keep the level as low as possible. I really appreciate you giving my stuff a solid listen!

The theory I've heard on Shoegaze is that the guitarists were looking at their pedal boards all the time because it was pretty effects driven. I find this series (link below) pretty good in general if you're interested in tracing how music evolved. The one below is on Shoegaze.

Anyway this is a beautiful number. I'd call it more ambient than anything but whatever. Nice one, Zoot.

I actually didn't know that and really am not familiar with the genre but I do realize I'm not playing anything even close the shoegaze. I just called it that because of the preset name. I will check out the link you shared. Thanks for leaving a comment.

I like the vibe here. I have a feeling that Shoegaze as a genre might be a little different than youd expect. Id go check some out, just search shoegaze on you Tube. The term shoe gaze came from the tendency of the guitar players of this genre to stare at their shoes as they were playing - that comes directly from my brother, I have no idea how he always knows wierd stuff like that

I'd heard the term before and had google recommend two songs in the genre.
I'm not playing anything close to what I heard.
I did not know that. I would have guessed it was more about being melancholy and looking down...

Description : Shorten My Days is a deeply personal prayer about examining the true intentions behind our relationship with God. It wrestles with the uncomfortable question of whether we seek Him because we genuinely love Him, or because of what we want from Him and the world around us. It is a plea for God to strip away selfish motives, sustain us through life's battles, and teach us to live in a way that brings glory to His name.
Guitar: Nameless.
