My opinion may be flawed, but it's still something to think about.
Everyone's talking about the impact on musicians and music, but what about the most likely illegal use of copyrighted material? Music companies with big money for lawyers, successful musicians with big money for lawyers, can get money/license fees for their material being illegally used to train AI models, but what about the hundreds of thousands, or is it millions, of unsigned music creators whose creations are being used? I checked some AI resources (academic use) and came across Jamendo collection (Dataset is made available solely for non-commercial research and academic use) but you could download and use it, it's just 508 GB ;), tools for ripping audio (wav) from YouTube based on genre. In my opinion, AI is probably based on theft. Why theft? Have you all, and all other music creators around the world, given these AI training material collectors permission to rip your/their songs and/or acapellas for free for commercial use by AI? If not, then it's illegal commercial use of copyrighted material, right?

I must admit that the song is wonderful in every way !!!!!! Human creative participation is minimized....and yet we have a perfect result! Because AI has "created" this track, based on what it already knows. But music expresses life and that is why we have so many different types of music. Because life is incredibly complicated !! For example, I don't think AI could have invented rap or trap etc. (on its own) 15-20 years ago ! AI can "create" because there are relevant musical data .... ! The truth is that it is not possible for the AI to feel what life is, joy, sadness, emotions ! Anyway, we definitely need musicians just as we need mathematicians and we need to get basic arithmetic knowledge (all of us), even though we have pocket calculators.... Cheersssssssssssssssssss !!!

You've raised a really good question here and judging by the comments, it's definitely got people talking. Personally, I truly hope that AI isn't the future of music, as I find that utterly depressing. I can't imagine a World without musicians, singers, DJ's, bedroom producers, live performances. I'm not a fan of AI, especially when it comes to music production. Music to me should be about people creating something, either as a group or on they're own. Coming up with a melody, a hook, a guitar riff, bass line, drum beat, vocal harmonies etc, that's when the magic happens and that magic can happen in a recording studio, on stage in front of an audience, jamming in your mum and dad's spare room with your mates or sat at your computer using a DAW , which I imagine most of us do? And why do you produce music? It's that desire to create something that you can share with others or not, as some people don't share the music they produce, but it's still about wanting to create something, whether it's art, cinema or in this case, music. That need, thankfully will always exist and the emotion that exists within music is something that AI can't replicate. Sure, AI will be used in some aspects of the music industry, but it will never replace humans or their desire to be creative. I have no desire to ask AI to produce a song for me. Where's the fun in that? The actual song itself is good and I wouldn't have guessed it was AI, but knowing that it is AI generated, obviously alters my opinion. A good experiment though and it's got us all talking! Thanks.

"ShortBusMusic." That's hilarious. If we want to see live gigs, we'll need human performers. Can you picture millions of teen age girls losing their minds over an AI generated K-pop band? How about the fanatical devotion Taylor Swift gets from her fans? It's no different the hysteria over the Beatles, Elvis or Rudolf Valentino. Performers become living gods so fans can experience the extasy of transcendence at their gigs. It's an archetypal experience AI will never be able to replicate.

Yes AI can imitate music and synthesize sounds, but it cannot imitate original internal ideas and thoughts that lie in our hearts. People feel such things whatever one says about it.

Human emotion and creativity cannot be artificially replicated to the point of being indistinguishable from the real thing. Not yet. Theres always something that gives it away, to me. I hope im long gone from the world when our art no longer belongs to us - our emotions and our imaginations will no longer be our own

Ive been a member of this community for several years myself, Ive seen alot of growth, and Ive seen a few negative things. Ive met terrible people, and ive met lifelong collaborators who i now count among the best of friends. Ive shared alot of music, ive listened to and critiqued alot of music, much like still do. I became the producer of an awesome group, ive been a part of several projects here on LM that a extremely good, if not great. Ive been involved in a stinker or 2. Ive learned alot from my peers, and ive taught alot, as well. I even started a Discord server to assist the community here with collaborations last year. Not a single time have i used any intelligence other than mine to accomplish those things, and never in a million years will I. Im a lifelong musician, and a producer for over a decade, and the skill and experience ive earned from a lifetime of learning and failing, getting up and trying again is a trillion times more valuable than anything skynet is going to throw at me. Well, besdies the inevitable nukes and human extinction, id say. A.I. can be utilized by some to achieve quite a few things. It has no place in art, imo. That belongs solely to us and it should always be so.
Anyway, the song is ok. I guarantee your worst song without the use of A.I. is 100000000 times better.

It is a very sad song and maybe this is the AI's catchy purpose. I do not know. It is complicated. If you have suffered such events, these lyrics AI or not, are sad. Maybe I would not try to write a Christmas song based on sorrow and loss, but this is just me. The song is really beautiful, the instrumentation covers just fine an acoustic song and the instruments make music to the ears of most of the non-musicians. I have read that for now the American legislation will not accept music made by AI as copyrighted. oF course there will or there are clarifications on what music produced by AI is, or what is the "percentage" of :legal" use of AI in this scope. What is AI assisted or enhanced music. It is a new means, very powerful and it is not machinery. It is thousand of people working, billions of dollars spent and it is not only music. Creativity is a human characteristic but computers are a product of human creativity. We cannot blame them for anything. Man wanted transportation, trips on the sea and in the air. Man wanted to reach the moon and still tries to reach Mars and how knows other planets. Man loves to dream and to be creative. And there has always been the challenge and the competition. It is a challenge and it will be a competition. It is unfair, we can't beat those huge clusters of artificial intelligence and some will take advantage of it, no doubt. It is like inventing wheel, it is huge and we, as societies will have to adopt. Do you think that in medicine there is less AI to come? It is our lives, yet statistics will finally tell. Is statistics always 100 per cent accurate? Difficult verdict.
Anyway, I liked the song but the lyrics truly made me trist.

hello mate, its been a while, the track is good, everything sounds excellent and thats the scary thing, been having these discussion for a while with DJ Pain he's a beat maker and producer on YouTube i follow, and many other artist too, putting it bluntly, its here to stay, we may have to embrace it but that doesn't make it right, i think most agree it does a great job, but its trained on real vocalist so it replicates genre definitions music technology and the like and then churns out a track in 30 seconds, real artist musicians and vocalists are the true creatives, everybody has to stick together on this, Suno and Udio are having to settle out of court to big artist cos its spitting there material out, i gave it a try, i have a free track on Suno, its brilliant used a female but you wont here it no way, i hate my laptop, so AI i know i'll loathe. if producers wanna press 2 buttons, start and finish thats not talent, its a fraud.
i agree with another poster Morgan, 100% AI should only be given a non- comercial licence, not for profit. but that wont happen. sorry its a long mail, but i know quite a bit about said subject everyones on about it, that creates the fear and as you asked, i answered, and the moral of my story 10 billion dollars spent this year on AI in music AND, this is the cherry on top, the first AI artist has just signed a 1.3 million dollar contract, when U2 and the Rollin Stones join Looperman, i'll be saying i told you so, lol

I don't think I'd get around to listening to any AI music, there's too much human music I've got to catch up on. This is brilliant but technically over compressed and without nuance such as a sparkle on the guitar in my opinion. It's also derivative. What was the process of production?
My foray into AI includes creating photo-real images of brass players for a fictional big band with a story round it that's going to be web based. I don't have a budget for a photo shoot and it's unethical to use lifted images of real people so I justify a best use case, I will also post process them into Polaroids in Photoshop. AI is able to augment what I'm wishing to do in this way. The fun part of writing and making music are mine. I suppose I'm interested in how people are going to use AI in their projects but AI has also pushed me into seeking 'Outsider Art' also.

I believe our world leaders should start legislating on AI right now. AI should be used as a tool, but not as a substitute for a human. I'm quite calm about this aspect because I believe that a person's creativity and emotions can never be replaced by AI. However, I still think that they should not allow the publication of 100% AI-generated songs on any online platform, neither paid ones like Spotify nor free ones like LM. To feel at ease, I look to the past and try to draw an analogy with similar events that we have already overcome with beneficial results for everyone. For example, when the first DAWs and virtual instruments started appearing, before that, if someone wanted to create, record, edit, and mix their own songs, there was no other way than to go to a professional studio. Now we can do it from our room, and yet professional studios and engineers still exist. Another example is the arrival of Autotune. Before, it was impossible for someone with a lot of talent but without the gift for singing to become a singer; however, now anyone with talent can do it.

Personally I see AI as a virus. I'd rather watch my own paint dry (white on a white canvas). For me the negatives outweigh the positives.

The song is pleasant but TBH, an AI approach lacks warmth somehow. The emotions come from lyrics that have been written in the midst of human emotion and that is what hooks people in. This song is well-rounded but i do not feel AI alone is sufficient enough to make relevant emotions

Song is actually really good, but I don't think AI can do what musicians can do.
Ai just copy others artists and make songs copying existing music.
It's the people who push the boundaries of music with their imagination and creativity. As a tool AI can be useful, but as main creator, i don't think so.
