Ian! Right out the gate the direction you moved this track is spacious light and fresh. The delayed sax with the vocals is a solid creative touch. And yep I’m totally loving the saturation and the stereo separation. Great staging and presentation. Stellar as always my friend.
Yes, Manu is certainly right about the sound of this voice, and if you've already improved it, I would still find it a bit too "muffled". Having said that, I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed the track. There's so much going on, how do you go about getting all those sounds to groove together. And although it sounds like a wild mess, I felt like I was in a familiar, cozy living room. Really a very unique, very inspiring track.
Well - I tried to retweak that vox again today to bring it up and didnt bother to tapper the end this time so its 5 seconds of floating nothingness at the end. But yeah it's 25 tracks in the final mix and some of the synth parts are constructed separately before being added in hence the wild mess of sound. Thanks for listening and the warm feedback (still got the L plates on despite my age)
Hey thanks for the warm feedback mate - I see you posted your new one - sure some film-maker will want to steal it!! Give it another spin right now : )
Just a little tip that is often used in studios in the pop area: (does not necessarily apply to this song)
Duplicate the vocal track so you make 3 tracks out of 1 track. You leave the original track dry without any effects. You provide one of the two copies with e.g. B. with reverb and take out the dry part of the voice completely, so that only the reverb can be heard on the track. On the other track you use a different effect, e.g. an echo. Here, too, you remove the dry part completely. With the panorama control and the volume you mix the 3 tracks until they sound good. If the original voice is very thin, you can also add a bit of dryness to the two effect tracks. You will hear that the sound of the voice becomes wider and fatter due to the spatial distribution. This can also be used to improve good synth sounds.
So, very hard to describe what I felt on this song. In any case, you have installed a large number of tonal elements. The drums, bass and also the solos are good, the FX are also well placed. What bothers me a little (my own taste) is that the singer's quite beautiful voice seems to be trapped in the middle frequency range, as if in a cage. That's a pity, because this voice loses a lot of energy. It cannot develop its own dynamic. That would be good for the song, because otherwise it seems very trance-like to me. The mix and master are good, the placement of the instruments on the sonic stage is also very well done. Greetings, have a nice weekend Manuela
Yeah I agree - I did already try to improve that a bit and just retweaked it again to try bring the vox out a bit (added 17% shimmer - from perfect room - to one of the two vocal tracks and dropped the bass line behind the vocal by about 1.5db) ... kinda subtle tweaks maybe it's slightly better but something to get my head around more for sure (on the long list of learnings). Thanks for the careful listen and thoughtful feedback
nice work Ian, like that distortion on the bass, great synth work too, nice subtle drum and good percs, wasnt expecting the vocal but it was great a tight fit bro
Much better :)
It happened to me too in the past and several people listened and commented on various things but nobody noticed the weird ending, which was... Odd :D
Still a good track my friend, and now even better!
Hi Ian,
you create such wonderful sound collages. There are so many genres I´ve heard but that doesn´t matter. It is a spacy rock trip with a melancholy backround. Well done!
Greetings
Matthias
I wouldn't know the genre either but who cares...it just sounds good and very unique.
I didn't expect the vocal but that was a nice surprise.
Very well done again.
Thanks my friend - I bounced the midi tracks to audio in mixing so I cant double check but I think all the drum and percussion sounds come from Akai kits. Lately I seem to have half a dozen drum or percussion tracks with maybe 1 or maybe up to 4 or 5 elements in the one track. Less gives more control over the sound but is fiddly hey. Then I usually treat them differently (fx's, or sculpting the sound) before mixing - I think this one has some delay on the snare dominant track and that gives it more of rolling sound. I must admit I dont really know what Im doing so it's trial and error : )
Ian, how ya been, mate? I am intoxicated by the trippy fizz yer serving up here. Drumming is crazy good, the electronics are wonderfully immersive. the vox sit really well in the groove and i dig the ripples they cause from the synths. Sax adds a nice proggy dimension to the mix. It’s been too long since i heard you man, you keep experimental music alive.
Hey Michael - Im good mate - fucking busy but feel finally returning to the land of the living after this interminable covid close down of the last few years. Hope you are doing well : )

Description : Updated 1/7/2023. This is a progressive fusion flavored jazz number. I called on fellow Looperman DISCIPLINE to season this composition with that FIRE GUITAR, and he did! Let me know your thoughts on this one. Enjoy.

Inspired by a track of Pseudoble. I was noodling along to his track "I wish I didn't know" (which is awesome) and had the words "Snow in Athens" in my head. This with the smooth jazz/fusion atmosphere led me to this track with a sort of Steely Dan feel.
Description : This track is built around the repetitive lead guitar line which I have previously incorporated as an intro for the rocker track "Sweetheart Runner" by LM user TinyFinger whom I have helped in arranging, mixing and producing his song. This extended session was a good oportunity to test some new equipment....Thanks to Tiny for not being mad about it...:)^^
After a quite turbulent long travel we’ve reached a totally unknown planet which is mostly covered with clouds. As we pass over it we can see parts of rivers through the clouds that come out of the dark rocky surface in some places. So the whole scene is alternating textures of white, dark gray and silver flashes. Unfortunately there’s no chance to land anywhere so we just pass, wonder and travel on …
Description : Psychedelic blues hip hop with lead banjo and acoustic resonator slide guitar. Acoustic drum kits, fat basslines, soaring filtered strings, some strong Eastern elements (from guitar and strings), some dub and funk from the bass and drums and a bit of rocking electric guitar. Very unusual piece of music and a trip like no other I've heard. Some of it is like a dark, deep Southern delta blues track over a hip hop and dub backing. All played and programmed by me, no loops used.
Description : A spoopy song, early for Halloween. This was a collaboration with Micky, who did most of the work.
A musical realization of a poem by Thomas Hardy
Idea: Spearcarrier
Voices: Spearcarrier & Micky
Music: Micky
Genre: We don't know yet. Suggestions welcome. LOL
Description : the rise of AI
this i would describe as hip-hop space rock, last night of the proms sort :))
its different, a fusion of genres, this is all played by me, no loops. got a little more music theory now, so put it to the test.
its my first attempt at writing something myself and hopefully show i can produce a bit too. i wanted all the instruments to have their place but to shine alone, let me know if you think i achieved my description.
Description : Return To Forever was a group that started my love of fusion jazz and this is my attempt to cover their 1976 track, “The Romantic Warrior. I know I wore out several inceptions of this album from LP, cassette and 8 track. The original track was over 10 minutes long, so I abridged it some. Hope you like and download.
Description : A moroccan traditional song from 70s titled "Toudart" which means "Life" in Moroccan berber/Tamazight, revived and composed in a modern way, I used minor2go's piano loop which you can hear on the background, everything elese is from me.
Description : Found some 70's funk drum loops that I liked and added some funk horn loops. Then I found some effects and percussion loops that worked well with the bass loops I found. Yeah, all loops but 1 vocal track of mine. :) Funk/fusion? Might be cool to have some hip hop styled vox on this, any takers?

If the Arturia mini-freak sound that good then I will have to have a good go at it.
Great track my friend.
Well done.
