Listen To John The Revelator Deep House Song By DjoeGio | Looperman

Description : The idea to do something with the powerful voice of Delta blues musician Son House (1902-1988) came after I watched the documentary ‘It Might Get Loud’. Jack White (The White Stripes) played a record called ‘People grinning in your face’ by Son House. An a cappella song with handclapping; ’one man against the world’. You can find this magnificent fragment of the documentary on YouTube. Please watch it. Be awed. After that I listened to a lot of a cappella by Son House and was overwhelmed by ‘John the Revelator’. Even if you are not religious (like me) or familiar with the Bible (I am), this traditional gospel blues in a call and response-style is everything the blues is about. I realised it was almost ‘sacrilegious’ to put a drumbeat under this vocal track, but it gave me goosebumps the first time I tried it. So I composed a dramatic housetrack together with STAX (Hans Clevers) on sax. I took almost a month or two to split the original voicetrack in enough pieces to re-align them with the basic beat without losing the original feel. Where possible, I eliminated the handclapping because it was mostly out of sync. After I got the basetrack right, STAX played his solo. Afterward the grand piano, choirs and strings where added plus the noise-percussion. The project and mixing took approx. five months.
‘John The Revelator’ (this is from Wikipedia) has been called ‘one of the most powerful songs in all of pre-war acoustic music ... [which] has been hugely influential to blues performers’. The song's title refers to the Apostle John as the author of the Book of Revelation. A portion of that book focuses on the opening of seven seals and the resulting apocalyptic events. In its various versions, the song quotes several passages from the Bible in the tradition of American spirituals. Son House recorded several a cappella versions of this song in the 1960s. His lyrics for a 1965 recording explicitly reference three theologically important events: the Fall Of Man, The Passion of the Christ and Resurrection. This is the version used here.

DjoeGio replied 20th Mar 2014 - 12 years ago
The sax is played by STAX (a.k.a. Hans Clevers), a Dutch saxplayer I've worked with on a few tracks. U can find more of him on Fandalism or on his Facebook-site.

Description : An attempt at writing a deep house track. Recorded in some guitar, chopped out some loops and built the track around it. Not sure if you could call it a deep house track though but there you go.

Description : A slightly hypnotic song here, a little impulsive but also comes very relaxing.
As always tinged slightly dark.
I knew again not what kind of a genre it is really.
Therefore, it is under Deep House because that fits in my opinion, quite good. But who knows ....
Who wants to understand the text, but not be German, which can be read by a translation.
To see under - Lyrics ....
Hopefully you like this song - feedback would be nice.

Description : Didn't use a DAW for this. Just used Audacity to work out ideas and decided to post this version.
Loops used are by the great Joe Funktastic, various vocal chops I've collected from Looperman and another loop that I used for the middle that I need to search for the creators name. I'd always wanted to use it, and felt it fit here.

Somtimes a banana is not enough, so i turned up my smoothie mixer added some strawberries and this got me back to my roots. I started with fl and deep house. I programmed a slow analog drum machine Blofeld mixed with 808 and Rickenbacher Bass.

Description : My second song. Very simple, just 7 tracks:
-One track for percussion
-Another for the kick drum
-Two with Podolski for pads and arpeggio
-Another with a Tyrrell N6 for the sub-bass
-An Analog Lab V for keys
-And of course, Odarka's voice, which is what brings the song to life.
It's helped me learn to play with volumes and prioritize vocals or instruments at certain points, and to continue learning equalization and mastering, which I find incredibly complicated.

Description : After taking a good month off to spend some time spoiling my wifefor the holidays. I thought I should get back to work. Making this dark deep-house track was an exercise in restraint and just pushing a lot of the sounds in the back of the mix in subtle and dark deviant sounds. Also used a bit more processed distortions sounds and used Paulstretch and some glitchy effects. I also had fun playing around with the vocla sfx. I know it's a long one, it promises you a payoff in the second half.

Description : Now for a bit lighter topic I thought I uploaded one of my most recent tracks. I wanted to make a very deep synth and think I managed to do so. Build up to the 2nd part really gives it more depth. Let me know if you like it or give me hints to make it better. I did not use an actual drop in this. Thought it did not fit the track.
