IT's got a nasty drop to the groove, big bass drum on the 1 if you get my drift
drop that in and everything will stand on that, with a solid foundation...
Cool intro that last 17 well almost 18 bars would be a groundbreaking
direction it has stability groove wise with a simplistic feel-Very Real....
Slap a guitar on that to complement the melody, and you'd have a winner..
Hey, thanks for getting back to me eventually. I only saw it because of getting the email notification. Would have missed the reply if it hadn't been for that. When I was listening to Dance for the Morning, I was thinking "Hey, I wonder what happened to that guy's cool short track he posted a couple of months ago? I'd like to hear that".
So, Dance for the Morning is the full version, right? I guess I should have recognised it though it sounds quite different now. I still think a short, instrumental version of this would be cool. Lots of people have already enjoyed this short piece so I think two versions would work out really well. Not exactly like Orbital's wonderful The Box, but a little bit like that.
I'll comment again on Dance for the Morning, which may be just a little too long (maybe not) so worth thinking about a short version, which could be cool on an album before hearing the full length masterpiece.
Oh sorry to hear of any depression problems. But not sure if this: "having to deal with so many champagne problems" means they're not really very massive problems. Maybe it's a bit like that phrase "first-world problems" like being annoyed about when your supermarket delivery will arrive as opposed to 'third world problems' such as whether the water supply is fit to drink.
Anyway, I'll be very interested to hear your new version of this highly promising piece. I can't say I could really spot your Reason synths in there (which is probably a good thing, means they're not really generic) though maybe they're the sorts of sounds I tend not to use or have missed in the presets.
New age/prog rock could be good. Slam a bit of hip hop in there too as there's very little prog rock with any hip hop in, as far I'm aware. I guess I try to do a bit of that, though.
i apologize for the late reply, last thing i want is to give the impression i didn't care and ignored your message.
been not a too well start so far into the new year for me - but getting there!
first i wanted to say thanks for sharing your opinions about depression and the music with me.
you are right when you say it still could be massive problems, depression is not something to be taken lightly but often it is.
i had some strongly depressed phases in my early 20s ago, that was nasty shit. i overcame that for the biggest part thanks to music making and some of my friends & family.
these days i get only slightly depressed when i can't make music for several days in a row :)
also i finally turned this idea above into a whole tune. if all goes well it should be uploaded tonight in case you are interested in having a listen.
Yo. Didn't see this when you first posted it but glad I've now found it as it's excellent work.
Really majestic movements in those synths and surely the best thing I've heard from you.
I sometimes find it quite daunting when I come up with a particularly cool riff or collection of parts as sometimes doing great initial ideas justice does not come easily. Sometimes it's very easy but I've heard loads of songs with cool parts in them that just weren't that great and should have been better (I guess we all have).
Anyway, I actually think this works well without drums or extra bass or guitar etc.
So, I suggest making a purely drumless version lasting, say, 3 mins.
At the same time, make a grooving beat-heavy version. If it were me, I'd spend ages playing around with loads and loads of different acoustic drumming grooves and kits as well as drum loops.
I'd probably decide quite a few different ones worked and then would spend ages working out how to transition between those different grooves. But that's me so maybe you'd prefer to choose a good, fairly simple hip hop groove (for instance) and just stick with that and not move to double time swinging jazz or d'n'b or whatever.
Good luck with it and let us know how you get on. Definitely consider the two versions as I think you're nearly there with this (drumless) version.
Oh, and maybe make the intro a bit simpler - perhaps go with the coolest, most distinctive and memorable part so it's a memorable intro.
thanks a lot for your input, as always it's very appreciated and taken to heart! i am sad to say i didn't have much time for music these past weeks.
i can usually tell easily it's been a while when the depression reached the point where it makes me wanna stay in bed all day and listen to comfortably numb and being sorry for myself for having to deal with so many champagne problems.
just kidding (a little...), i have a new version in the works and it has 3 parts, one of them has quite intricate percussions for my standards. it seems to be going in a new age/progressive rock fusion.
sure thing my friend, knock yourself out!
also let me show you my appreciation for the fact about you having the decency to ask permission by saying: thank you!
hey glad to see you here too. it would be AWESOME if you could provide some guitars for this!
i already took a few sampled guitars that came with studio one but its of course very inflexible and usually a big ache in the heinie as soon as you need to change something.
they fit not too bad already. i could send you a current export tomorrow then you can hear where i was thinking to go with this and let me know if you are interested in giving it a try and recording something.
Ugh, this is sooo nice, I love it. Ha, unfortunately I am not knowledgeable enough to give suggestions however just wanted to give a heads up that I very much enjoyed it! Whatever you do with it, can't be wrong. Cheers!
thanks a lot Steve! and you suggested exactly what my first attempt at some percussion/beat was. :)
and sure, i'll gladly let you know when there's something new, cheers!
This is some fabulous synth harmonization! I can definitely see a slightly hard analog bass coming in at some point with very minimal drums. This has a nice build up! May I ask what tempo this is? Good one!
Firstly, this is an awesome intro...in my opinion it could be a chill out or maybe a find funky pop song, too...get a good drum groovy, maybe some guitars and IF YOU FIND A GOOD PELLA, WOULD BE THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN... :-)
Description : Feel free to check out the video on YT as well (Alan McLaren Project - Upside Down) of this 6min journey from electronic to rock with some psychedelic moments...
This is my latest, but also one of my earliest tracks.... any feedback is more than welcome, thanks :)
Description : 'The main point of this song is really about the frustrations of living in the overload of today's World of Tech. The consequences are impaired communication and that if you advance too far you end up diminishing what you had to start with, so you are way worse off.' Enjoy a 60s Rhythm with a modern deep Bass, a Sitar, a Piano from EvilPianist, a lost flute from UniverseHuston and some Oscillators :-)

Description : A demo of one of my current projects. The chorus vocal sounds like "Aaaaraashe" to me. The song is in C# minor with a nod to C# pythagorean on the chorus. The beat on the verse was inspired by the Peter Gabriel song Intruder.
Description : This is one of my earliest productions that I did at the start of my recording career. I did not have a keyboard at the time I made this song, so I improvised and used my sister's iPad and a 5 dollar GarageBand application instead, and plugged the headset jack into into my PT6 rig and did my best to turn each individual track (which were mono and there were about 25 tracks or so) into a stereo image. Then recorded vocals over it. My computer was so old and slow that I had to mix my music and then BOUNCE it to a new session - four times. My computer (which had 512 MB RAM and an 80 GB hard drive) couldn't handle more than 8 tracks at a time or it'd stop working because the processor couldn't handle it. Took me FOREVER to do. But I got it done. Had a lot of fun doing it too, even if it isn't my "best" work. I'm still happy with it, considering I didn't have many tools to choose from at the time.
Description : Long time lurker first time poster, pretty new to production n stuff, this is my first track in Ableton Live.
was going for a darkwave/synthwave sound, reminiscent of Justice, Carpenter Brut, Perturbator, ect.
Looking for some feed back, constructive criticisms or even just your thoughts if you liked it or not. This is just a rough cut on this current WIP, just the bones of it if you will.. If you have some cool title suggestions, would love to hear those too.
Thanks for listening.

extended version is in the works and coming along nicely.
a belated thanks for having a listen!
Beautiful harmonies deployed throughout your track. A little short, but it could be the beginnings of a original concept ....
Dan

i am glad you had a listen and enjoyed it! extended version is already in the works and about 50% complete. cheers :)
