The Killers is what this reminded me of. It's in your vocal tone more than anything. Even if someone is not into The Killers, the resemblance gives it subliminal credibility. Your vocal timing and phrasing gets better after the two minute mark. I agree that the drums and the synthie thing don't work perfect, the synth has an extra beat or something.
Overall, like it a lot. The NIN thing got me interested in your work and I'm liking it all!

Thanks for listening and leaving your comments! The synth/drum timing was mostly intentional, I was trying to induce some syncopation. I deleted that NIN cover, because I thought the verse vocals were pretty weak, it was more of an inspiring experiment. Thanks for coming back for more though!

Came across this on Random, and that is a good description of this.

I feel you need something else going on in the background to not get incredibly repetitive.

There is a very nice "Nightwish" feel to the middle that I liked very much. It almost sounds like the low frequencies are maxing out for some of the track. Like what you have here.

on an Example of my misknowings by deciBel
You should not stress so much about the genre. Music is the universal language. I am not a fan of hip-hop, dance, trance, techno, dub-step,....and I don't really know the defining characteristics of any of them. What you have put out, every time, has been enjoyable. Your songs are "Behnam" genre, and it's becoming one of my favorites! You keep things interesting and sounds don't get tedious. Thank you.

This almost has a Devo vibe going on, with Ramones style lyrics. Nice to hear the voice, and I agree with alientapeplayer. Take care.

Hmm, that's a happy comparison to Devo, and I'll take the comparison to the Ramones as a positive one. Ha ha! Thanks for your support!

Can totally hear what the idea is, and there are some nice lead lines within. The issue is the timing of the drums and the rhythm guitar track. Try moving the drum track over a 1/4 note later. Like where you are going with this.

Trance or dance, one of the two. Usually don't like this kind of thing but you kept it simple and not too flashy.

The tone at 1:52 seems out of place but the rest is solid. Would like to hear some bass doing it's own thing under it. I like the choppiness at the end.

on The Only One by TheElectricNote
Sounds like the vocalist is afraid of the microphone. Vocal phrasing needs help, along with the general execution of the vocals. Music is not bad at all, needs clarity. Vocals are what broke this one. Lyrics are passable, it's the phrasing, notes and delivery that hurt this so much. I hear what you are trying to get at here, just have someone else with more experience do the vocals. Not wanting to hurt feelings, but coddling only hinders us after age 3.

on FOOLING WITH MADNESS - Bilbozo by Bilbozo
Friggin sweet! The aggressive guitar is something I've always wanted in my tracks but it doesn't translate to my hands. Your solo tone was about as perfect as it can get. Great feel and flow, Like it a lot!

Very nice. Reminds me of some Davenport Cabinet with a voice like Drive-By Truckers. Solo's have an awesome tone as well. I have nothing but good things to say about this track.

Evisma,
TY for the listen. Very glad you like it. The guitar I am using on this song is my PRS semi cut...using both pickups for a fat sound.

on Thief In The Night by MWRatridge
The music is great, drums could be louder. Lyrics are sound, but the vocals feel out of place. Would have liked to hear a cleaner sounding voice on top of this music, but still a great expression. Has a Drive-by Truckers vibe. Nice.

on Faded My Battle with the Bong by topvega
Reminds me of some Govt Mule. Your guitar riffs seem very set and not an off the cuff attempt. Sounds weird, but I appreciate a guitarist who can play the same thing 8 times and not change it. Diggin it.
topvega
topvega replied 14th Aug 2013 - 12 years ago
Funny you say that, I have to try real hard to repeat a riff over and over again. I tend to get bored easily and wind up with a more off the cuff take. I appreciate the kind words and your taking the time to listen.
Thanks again.

Like the offset guitars. They're the only thing that sounds "Country". Horn parts at the end are nice, love horns, they didn't seem to go over each other in parts, though. When the effects came through, I was surprised. Wasn't expecting that. Nice.

The bass shouldn't be panned left. Disorienting. There's not alot of clarity in the guitars either. The drums, while off in parts, were very good. Nice double bass. Not to complain, but I feel you put your stuff on here for constructive criticism, just like me. Keep it up!

Awesome. A few clips and a few abrupt notes that sounded like they should "swell" instead of "hit" ,but I could never do such a free formed expression like this. Very impressed.

on metaled-MFer-IN THE END by MetalEd
Like it alot. The phaser or whatever modulation you have on the drums is a bit distracting. The guitar at 2:53 has a very good tone for this track, sits well with the rest. The effect on the vocals at the beginning was a bit too much, like the drums, but once it got heavy you couldn't notice. Like it alot, please continue!
