I agree this one needs vocals. Really uplifting melody and a great use of the plucks. Definitely not deep house but this has some commercial potential. good work.

I like the melodic arrangement. Have you thought of using some of the free vst synths avail on the site, it would liven up the basic midi instruments on this mix.

It does have that SF sixties Psychedelic edge to it. Tone is amazing on that guitar. Nice work indeed! You are both very talented!

Thank you, crucethus. Yeah, Sunny's tone, talent and skill are pretty amazing to me, forcing me to up my game as a songwriter. She noodles around a bit and then we usually get the keeper on the 2nd take. She goes out for a smoke and me and the engineer just stare at each other, like - "Really? That can be done?" So I feel very lucky these days.

on New Earth - turn down the silence by mindhiest
Amazing. That intro just keeps building and the harmonics converging to create that dark sinister sound, and yet with some hope. 2:09 reminds me of a drum effect Ultravox used on there song Vienna. Then 3 mins on just chaos in a great way. Super Creative and supremely executed. More intense then Carl Orff´s Carmina Burina. 4:40 lovely string and choral coda. my only wish is that you ended it on a major chord instead of what I thought you would do with a minor chord, but then you decided to make a dissonant chord with a vocal SFX end. Tricked me ehh? I can´t say enough about this one my friend, outstanding work.

I haven´t heard that many bell sounds in a house tune since Michael T Diamondś ¨Hells Bells¨ But you used them very tastefully and build up a nice sinister groove. Well Done.

What I love about this besides the sinister beats, perfectly eq´d bass and such, is that fantastic subtle phaser effect that rises and falls. Then 1:25 says I´m dark and the pads will show it with a bit of tourettes beat-werking.3:12 and we are back to that awesome phase work. With that whup-whup-whup! sound. 3:54 is a nice comedown. 8 out of 10 cats approve! Great work.

Hi crucethus,

I was hoping to nudge Brado and AustinMusic into doing a new version that compliments both.

A fresh vocal by Austin would clear up the parts that don't go with the music. While I adore technology, being able to riff or twist your live vocals to fit the music is best, imho.

on Upwelling Ice by Burtsbluesboxes
Stuck on the river as the ice wells up the sides of my boat. Too warm now, Can´t even go Ice fishing yet. Never seen a January like this in Ottawa. Feels like March. Song fits the blues we are feeling not being able to skate down the rideau canal yet.
Emotive and awesome as usual Burt.

Thanks Steve, your favorite guitar again hahaha It is one warm January! I don't remember it being this warm in a long time, was wondering if you guys were as warm being a bit further north. Have the zombies made it up there yet? I heard about some kids falling through the ice where I used to live, they're fine, but that river froze every year and people would use it as a shortcut to get intown, not this year!

Hey Steve

Yea, you got it right. The idea is to model some music for abstract art and hopefully motivate some interest in current Winter Contest on the site.

I guess this piece is avant garde. I always joke that I was half asleep every morning in music theory class so now, when I want to compose, I have to make up my own systems! Well - despite my bad behavior in music school there is a lot of classical influence.

anyway - I'm very happy you had a chance to check this one out and thank you for the comment.

on The Difference Engine by HertzFidelity
Lovely Pad Intro. Then a cool moog like bass. Sounds a bit like Bowie on the Album ¨Low¨ (Subterranean) and I mean that in the highest of compliments. You build it with dubstep like elements as well, which I like how you are bringing this song along. Now 3/4 through and realizing that this is not trance but a really cool ambient tune. This is the kind of music I like to listen too and sometimes make so I am truly impressed.
great job fav´d

HertzFidelity replied 17th Jan 2017 - 9 years ago
Kind words crucethus but I owe the quality of the pad and most of the loops to Justze3 because he worked on these loops for over a month before he uploaded them to the site where I patched them together into this composition in only a few days.

The genre is weird I have to say, listen to this song with headphones and you realise why I believe that it's trance. With a desktop HiFi however the stereo is no as well defined and it's more ambient instead. I believe the line lies in the impact of the song on the listeners psycho-acoustic perception.

Whatever the matter I appreciate the feedback.

on UK RnB Track v8 by EricMilligan
I can picture a strong bluesy female singer on this one. Nice falsetto BTW. yeah this is a good template. it needs some more percussive fun to enhance it´s beauty. Your voice reminds me slightly of Rik Ockasiek´s from the Cars. keep at this one ehh! fellow outaouain.

EricMilligan replied 16th Feb 2017 - 9 years ago
Hi, Steve. You definitely could be right about the bluesy female singer on this track. Frankly, anybody other than me would be better! :) I am astounded that anybody here on Looperman thinks the vocal had any redeeming qualities! Your reference to Rie Ockasiek was interesting. I keep wondering if there's some kind of "character" voice that I could find that would actually sound halfway acceptable. Other than the quality of my voice, the major problem I have is that I can't hold a note on pitch properly. My voice quavers, and it is particularly bad if I try to hold a note for any length of time. I think that's an issue of age because I have noticed that many professional singers have the same problem when they get older. So, the solution is to cut off each word/syllable and shift to a combination of singing/talking I think. Not that I want to focus on vocals. I'd much rather find a couple of good vocalists to collaborate with and leave the driving to them. :)
