Thanx for the wonderful comment(brilliant is so cool).Sorry it did not please you as
one might expect. This is a minimalistic recording not really intended
to break into separate movements but more into a wall of sound that the listener
has to separate. Not a genre for everyone,I know it's so mono, and as
a composition it sounds like that's the way you heard it. So in my attempt
to create a minimalism recording I succeeded. As always it's difficult to
place our stuff in the proper genre just not enough choices.Oh well ..
hope the next one is more to your liking. ..thanx.....Doc

Nice bass intro. Reminded me of Joy Division for a second. This almost has a psychedelic drone like quality. Then that panned organ. brilliant mixing. I feel I´m tripping and I´m stone cold sober! So many good things going on. brilliant work my friend, i am truly impressed.

Joy Division!
That's a huge compliment.
I'm from Manchester N.England originally and was a big part of the Hacienda club scene and JD were a huge part of that scene too.
Anti Nazi League were big on city festivals as was reggae and John Cooper Clarke was churning out poetry like there was no tomorrow.
Drugs by the truck load ...... Those were the days.
Sorry about that you just sent me back to the eighties!
Thanx for the encouragement Steve.

Tasteful chill-out music. Always a treat when you both get together. I love the trappings of the piano and the guitar and that subtle organ pad sound in the b-ground. Kudos.

Great Intro, wrong key, drop that intro down a half step and it will work with the rest of this convoluted and staccato´d sound. It´s interesting, but it´s not pop.

I think it´s Future Funk. Not quite deep house but you could certainly re-mix it into a deephouse tune.

Nice musical commentary on current affairs. I hear Chinese traditional: I am loving the mixing of sounds and genres. masterful so far my friend. The panned chanting is awesome as well. I s that a North Korean nuke I hear launching. 3:30 it just get ominous sounding. Then @ 6:32 it gets interesting with that sinister beat and semi Phrygian scale. reminds me slightly of Bear Mcrearyś sound in BSG. Awesome song my friend. I enjoyed that experience. Nice sub bass end as well.
cool.

Thanks for the encouregment Cruce.Hello Mister Steve. How nice to arrive here and find three of the most creative and talented people on these boards liking my work! I wanted ominous as you do in a potential third world war scenario but I also wanted a calm Emperor proudly defending his people and paddy fields his culture and dreams.
I need to shorten it somewhat. Thanks for the encouragement mate.

Awesome, awesome. and awesome. I love Korg for Bass. I used a MS2000 for many years as my go to bass. I have the legacy VST set and love to use the bass. mix that with a Jupiter 8 pad and you are all set with the arrays that it provides. Your work is sublime. Thoroughly enjoyed my listen!

You captured that era, and that film with beauty and grace. signature acid filters, but a very tech-house beat and sound that just solidifies the genre. great work. nice mix, good separation of bass and high notes. gets to the point and drills it home. Nice break @ 2:43. good work Bleep

on Opposites Subtract by StaticNomad
Greetings. Stuttering Numnuts
Great Title, Nice intro, I like the kick and high hat only intro. This might be the most compression I have heard you use on a finished tune so far. Musically it´s a nice expression of various phrases and cello rifts. 1.34 is cool with that bass line and a simple piano. the breakbeats are also nice. I think you could layer a nice guitar screaming over the top of the phrases from about 2:30 to 3:27. 4.04 a simple mood change. Piano is perfect in this. Simple but effective. have you evr thought about using a phaser effect on the cello? not that it is needed or wanted here but just a random thought! 5:53 is a nice chorus sound. Nice Build at 6:35. 7:00 you almost get a fiddle effect for the sound. 8:09 nice break again. Piano again leads the way. So the ending on the piano is the right idea. and you end with it an E minor chord on the piano, but play one more note a piano playing c major chord and it will be a perfect ending because it will remind the listener of the tasteful piano structure you developed earlier in the tune. I liked it it has the structure ideas of some of your earlier songs but we get a cello instead of a guitar. It was the subtle musical choices in the piece that swung me over to the favourable side. you get a pack of pasties for your efforts!!

Word up, Crumbnuts*.

It's true that my nuts are quite numb, mostly from the stutter effects I have been applying to them.

It's an interesting title and I find myself quite subtracted to you (because we are opposites).

I'm not that keen on the layered cello intro before the kick and hat enter. Hard to explain why though it was the very first thing I came up with for the track and everything grew out of it.

For the last few months I have been applying a limiter to nearly every track as a master effect. I'm quite concerned about my blocky waveforms but I prefer the louder, more powerful sounds. You must tell me if I've overdone the limiting.

"1.34 is cool with that bass line"

Yes, very busy and intricate bass. I've got a series of intros before the proper track really starts around 1:30 with the piano and bass. And then lots of dnb breaks are introduced.

"could layer a nice guitar screaming"

Indeed though I'm barely playing guitar anymore and have become pretty average at it. Cello has totally taken over. I really hope the guitar magic will return. It's a shame to waste the ability as I still think of it as my main instrument.

"Piano is perfect"

I think it's decent and a bit of a surprise in dnb, as is the cello. Though you fully expect there to be some cello in drum 'n' cell.

I haven't really tried phaser on cello. Not an effect I use often. Can sound a bit fake and over the top.

"5:53 is a nice chorus sound"

That's partly a choir pad.

"Nice Build at 6:35"

It's getting heavier now. And then a fiddle? Like a violin? Maybe. It's distorted cello.

"8:09 nice break again"

Nice to come down again. 8:07-8:09 is a cool delayed snippet of cello. Sounds like it has wah on it.

I will try your piano ending idea.

A pack of pasties? Are they sweets? Or are they like Cornish paasties?

Thanks for the details...

*On account of all the food you get through listening to my epic tracks. Don't forget to clean the crumbs off before bed.

on Chicane - Offshore - Uplifting RMX by novaspace
Allo Karl and Frisio. I just want to take a moment and congratulate you on making consummate Trance music that I sort of used to listen too back in the early 2000´s. It is perfectly on point and mixed and mastered as it should be to the level of (What I consider the gold standard) Paul Van Dyk level. That being said, these days Trance has been relegated to the cheese section of the (yawn yawn) EDM shite pile (not fairly). When a genre becomes beholden on bringing in semi-good-looking women to misogynisticly pander and sing their wares. the Genre is pretty much over and done just like disco reared it´s ugly commercial side and sleazed back down into the gay underbelly in which came from and re-invented itself into a creative myriad of splendid sounds (house being one example) So Trance had it´s time....how are you going to creatively engineer it to be special again? What will you do to make people want to listen to it with earnest fervour. Because making a cool trance tune we heard in 2000 and putting a bunch of models giving us blue steel looks at the camera ain´t gonna revive this dead horse? You have the $, you have the connections.. make something that this generation wants to capture, because like many of us here, we are lost in the past and are a few years behind the future to make a difference these days (and thats OK with Us as most of us are not Pros. And that´s ok for us punters. But you seem driven and want to break into the professional bubble you have been gnawing at for a while. As good as this is... this ain´t gonna do it! And I say this with no disrespect as I acknowledge superior musicianship from your clan, but where I think you want to be. This won do it! With love (tough)

everyone can have his opinion but dude really have you ever checked our backgrounds and our songs? then you should have know that we are active in all different kind of genres of music and not only trance. btw we did already had our share in the music industry as producers wich has results with releases on welknown labels like Armada, Universal latina Music, DMN Records and more.. Again thanks for your opinion but do your homework first before commenting with a harsh opinion like that. btw havent seen your name in the commercial industry :)

on Overmyth I - Inception Of The Truth by ValveDriver
Loving that intro.....Nice Spaghetti western guitars. Fender if I am not mistaken? and that is before I read the comments. I feel the angst of the nineties Seattle sound and I hear the dynamics of a progressive sabbath sound. But I also feel the soul of our Neanderthal ancestors battling the cold and Grey glaciers for a morsel of food. The Blast beat drums give it a 2000+ feel as well. I don't know by 3:55 I felt Equally angry at Farmers and Bankers which is sort of a queasy place to be in. I think you just invented the genre Anti-industrial. Jesus H Christopher this song is just dripping with dread and cold and calculating evolution. This is the kind of music that will send those young earth creationists to stop and point and yell, "SEE that's what there all like..see! and then it just ends in a nihilistic cloud of vacuousness!
Creepy, entangling and an evocative piece of work Aaron. oh and damn good!

ValveDriver replied 2nd Apr 2017 - 8 years ago
Steve, how ya doing?

The spaghetti western thing was totally unintentional, but once it was pointed out, I liked it, and ran with it.

Ah yes. The angsty nineties Seattle sound. One of my favorite genres. Not only because I plunged head first into music during the nineties, but because Seattle is just a couple hours from here, and I was heavily exposed to it. So, much like I said in my reply to Evan, I'm sure the influence bled in.
Sabbath has been one of my favorites ever since I was about 5 years old. there were 4 songs from back then that I credit as the door way to my love for metal. Iron Man, Another Brick In the Wall pt.2, Tom Sawyer, and Black Dog. Whenever I heard them on the radio, I would stop what I was doing and just listen.

" I also feel the soul of our Neanderthal ancestors battling the cold and Grey glaciers for a morsel of food"

It's cool that you said this. This is the first part of three "Overmyth" tracks. It's supposed to be like the beginning of a darkness that comes over early man. Parts 2 and 3 are still in the works. I'm kind of jumping back and forth between them. Hopefully part two is finished first. You know, chronology and all.

Growing up in the plains of the midwest america, I not only knew, but am related to a lot of farmers. I don't think they would be such assholes if it weren't for the bankers. So, I can jump on board with the being angry at bankers, but farmers hold a spot in my heart, and bloodline.

"Anti-industrial" elaborate on that. I'd really like to know how you came to this.

I'm glad you liked this one. There is a select handful of people here that I always look forward to hearing feedback from while I'm making tracks. You, sir, are one of them.

Take care up there.
Aaron.
