smooth keys man. digging the quirky part even more now, seems like you applied some filtering magic. its much better shaped and tamed when compared to the previous one.
vocals have a sort of miguel migs or blue six touch, i love that stuff. blends in perfectly and everything appears as one cohesive sound entity.
didn't notice any anomalies in the mix, seems nicely balanced on headphones and detailed. enjoyed it, nicely done!
thanks a lot doudei for nice comments! Will check out some miguel migs and blue six tracks so that would be something more I can add to the amazing collection of super nice songs for sure. Really glad you liked my track. Alex
definitely retro feel as others have mentioned - personally i will always look back to this era with a lamenting sigh and a satisfied but tense grin across the face.
brought up awesome memories and forgotten vibes.
coming along nicely so far and i am looking forward to hearing how it develops further.
i will now go and listen to omni trio - renegade snares followed by adam f - circles.
hey Charlene!
you always manage to combine loops in a meaningful way where i wouldn't see/hear it at first.
that is quite interesting and impressive to me. and yes, what a voice! happy to see you have a new mic.
finally your voice shines through for what it actually is. its fabulous, my knees get all wobbly when i listen to your "new" voice.
i gotta browse your uploads soon for some new vocals, wheee! :)
Ha, I have a confession. I don't have a new mic! I just seem to be getting better at hiding that when I do try...sometimes I don't try though. Sometimes I just switch up the style depending on the music. Either way, I am glad you enjoyed it!! Always good to hear from you :)
ah yes, better late than never!
this is crazy good. the first minute of the intro in itself was already a feast for my mind.
instantly loved the clever sounds and intervals in the background, drizzling down in a most beneficial manner to create an interesting listening experience that is suspense-packed. here i already knew i am going to love this.
Ed absolutely kills it with his guitar and makes it look like childsplay again. i probably couldn't even play this half as clean if i had 3 hands.
excited to hear all those well thought-through details in the background in my headphones - not sure i would have noticed all the yummy things over my crappy speakers.
3:48 has just given me goosebumps, ahhhh how i like when that happens man... wish i could explain how it happens more often in detail.
surely one for my prog playlist, thanks for download.
expertly done guys, one to be proud of!
Wow...this is really one unexpectedly generous review! More so I'm glad because of it due to the fact that Ed wasn't completely satisfied with all of the aspects of the song,
consequently making me unconfident as well and I wasn't even sure if this version (there are more)had deserved the upload..
yet I took my chances cause I felt it was basicaly completely ok and as I see the track is very well received among Loopers and it's even getting some enthusiastic reviews like yours is.
I can only say big thank you for that level of recogniton and I hope there will be more opportunities to provide you with some small packages of goosebumps in the future..:)^^
this is so hot and listening to that makes me smooth and happy.
the bass alone is killer and i will listen to this many times. not only because i feel like there is a lot to learn but because this sound is bliss to me, therapeutic almost.
honestly i can't think of a tune i'd rather listen to on a cold morning with some fresh brew.
nothing better to get started into a new day than they way you described it.
next time in nyc i will get two large cappucinos from this place and listen to your tune the way you intended.
i know it sounds far fetched but the day will come. i hope they will still be around...
i really tried to find some constructive critique to say about this lovely track but this mixing and musicianship is way beyond my finesse and on them headphones it sounds so sexy and pretty much flawless, i can't fault anything really.
kudos also to the other musicians involved, Franco Quadroni, Slap Johnson and Know Kontrol.
Many thanks for commenting on my track. So glad you like it and even more that it makes you happy! You are actually the first to call my music therapeutical :-), and I will take it as big compliment! nmever looked at it like that before.
Of course it is actually the real musicians that make this track. I am just putting it together around and in between the solo's. And don't worry, most of this track is a result of just simple luck. We all need some luck every now and then while creating our tracks, right? ;-)
sweeet! this makes me happy :)
great vibe, your wife must be euphoric about this. i know i would be. no wait, i am!
was listening on headphones and had the impression the bass was driving over just ever so slightly at times, but i don't think i would have notices on a normal speaker setup. these cans tend to have an overwhelming bass, but it's maybe worth a quick analysis anyway.
cheers and all the best, also to your wife!
very clean and smooth production and as far as i can tell flawless performance.
very well done, i am enjoying this a lot. very easy to listen to and it doesn't tire my brain at all.
very nicely crafted arrangement.
i feel right at home with this kind of music. to me this pretty much translates to square enix.
my parents were crazy about jimi hendrix, i am crazy about yasunori mitsuda.
did you by any chance use to write chiptunes and/or use a tracker to compose?
I've written a few songs with FamiTracker, but it's mostly FL Studio. And thanks!
Pretty much everything I know about composing comes from years of studying music from old games; Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, etc so I don't blame for getting those Square Enix vibes
versatile and progressive fusion tune, just how i like it! i think fusion fits this, could be as well chillout or maybe even folk. sometimes it's just a matter of how conservative or not the subject is i guess :)
i found some exceptional parts in the melodies, also impressed by the sound choices and mix. the first "yeah!" moment was at around 1:20, that silky smooth synth has a lovely sound. right up my alley - think i melted a little inside.
on the off chance that you already know all these things i am about to mention anyway, here my thoughts:
if anything, then the intro could probably use some more attention. even though what follows makes up for those minor imperfections by far, it just doesn't do the rest of the track fully justice. it is nothing major though and should be easy to fix. for one you might get slightly more realistic results by tweaking the velocity of cherry-picked notes and do adjustments to the mapped parameters that are affected by velocity, if necessary. for plucked instruments i think an amp-env attack or sample-start mapping should already be all you need to get some improvements. sometimes a touch of filter cutoff modifier mixed in can't harm either, especially when there is only one sample for the whole 1-127 velocity range as they tend to sound still very plucky and bright even when using an as flat as possible attack envelope.
finally, for quick successively played notes experiment with different velocity slopes. exponential/logarithmic shapes are the way to go for emulating natural expressions. and the last thing: i found the pitch bends at the beginning slightly distracting, maybe they are a tad too accentuated?
fantastic tune guys. hat off to you sirs - and thanks for the download!
I appreciate your comment. The way this track was set up is interesting. Rozen and I did this 50-50. We weren't even in the same room, let alone same city. Rozen made the intro which I left untouched. I figured, not only is he keen with his specific style of music, but he is also my guest, I wanted to keep it as Ookami-free as possible. Since his style is untraditional, I'd rather not make it anything else. The acoustic guitar, with it's pitch bend was his original idea, and given that I've never been able to do such...let alone knowing you can, I kept it. Everything else was done as if automatically. He and I worked on this with our ideas, and placed them into the track. This isn't my style, but interestingly enough, it wasn't his either. Thanks for the comment. I'm looking forward to doing more with him. Take care. :)
spot on bass and guitar work.
also i am a big fan of those arp-like structures that don't mutate, i think its called ostinato. like you used with the glocken or xylophone sounding element.
it enables the harmonic context to completely change the feel of the melodies and i always enjoy it like a little kid when it happens :D
also this took me kind of back to the 80/90 anyways. formidable! also i think this has potential to fill a slot in a motion picture or game soundtrack. good stuff
the guitar and drums especially, they took me back to the past and reminded me of some important things and i feel like this is what this piece is about. in my opinion you managed to do it well - cheers!
hey there, thanks for the message!
firstly great and subtle use of my loop, glad you used it in such a nice track. really like it a lot, smooth and gentle, yet always stays interesting and with detailed textures. mix doesn't tire the ears at all, it's clean and well-defined. i think i'd be quite proud of this track if i made it.
cheers :)
wow Charlene, is that you singing? :D
it music is quite simple indeed but also fitting and what's here sounds excellent to be extended a little more.
i was thinking something along the lines of bass and strings, maybe additional drums/percussions.
if you want me to have a go at it let me know, i'd certainly enjoy it a lot.
take care :)
it has great potential for an amazing liquid funk track in my opinion. or maybe more into the trip-hop direction.
what i can say for sure is that you should definitely follow this idea further and let it develop. i'd be more than happy to help in whatever way i can.
will be quite used to capacity soon i think, but i can usually make some time on the weekends.
looking forward to hearing more :)
you're the man. those oldschool vibes are where it's at.
brings up some good memories and i can't stop finger drumming while imitating the kool and the gang summer madness in my headvoice. i assume for bystanders it sounds horrible but at least it should look ridiculous!
wow, this is crazy good.
didn't know the original but this is outstanding and very inspiring.
i just played it back a few times and felt the urge to jam some keys to that. it feels very natural and it's a joy to play alongside. very soulful, i love this.
i should have been more clear: it sounded as if boosty collins and his brother from the p-funk cohort were playing bass and guitar respectively is what i meant :))
great track, i dig it.
i totally sympathise with those lyrics.
whenever the topic religion comes up if i'm around there will be relentless but well-founded blasphemy. hundreds of gods are shaking their fist at me right now.
by the way, do you have a new microphone in the meanwhile? you should re-record those vocals sometime.
hot jam guys, funky stuff going on here.
i see the collins are also here already and ready to funk!
reminded me of good old maceo parker friday afternoon play- and dance-along sessions we use to have at high school. i usually played air-sax :)
inspiring and wonderful sound, i like this a lot.
only one minor thing i noticed, after 2:30 there are a few peaks of the flute that maybe could be slightly attenuated. it sounded a little harsh in my ears but also i have to admit i shouldn't have listened as loud as i did.
great work!
i was already expecting good deep house vibes from you but that track just killed it. my favourite DH tune so far from here.
i can tell this is good because it reminded me of the first jimpster mix i ever listened to, many many years ago. still remember exactly how that made me feel and i realised what the "deep" in deep house means. it was the first time i was able to enjoy it fully, just "getting it" - and i got ecstatic... :)
Thanks man. Coming from someone who writes tracks as good as the one of yours i heard earlier that really is a compliment. I've not heard of Jimpster so i'll have to go and look that up.
I'm glad you could drop in for a listen.
FR
excellent work guys. digging those vocals and really nice blues vibe going on here. at first had to get used to the effect on your voice but in the end it worked out very well i have to say. great singing man!
quite the track! i didn't expect it to be of this quality. not that there was any indication that it wouldn't be good... i simply didn't expect it!
that is very likeable music to me and as far as i can tell it sounds excellent. i am currently on not-so-good speakers and it sounded still quite alright. kudos also for live drumming and what not, respectable tune man.
digging it man, very cool stuff that is right up my alley.
funny thing is that there was a brief moment when it reminded me a little of myself. i have no idea why or how, like i can't even play the guitar - so i don't know what the hell my brain was going through in the moment it produced that thought.
to cut a long story short: well done man, sweet tune you made. got any more that go into a similar direction?
Similar but different..lol

The best thing however in your comment is the fact you get the feeling I was trying to pass. It was exactly that, freezing cold winter's mornings, but still needing to be just outside to really experience that. I need to disappoint you however, I was informed that Café Angelique closed that place recently. Very unfortunate, but there are still 2 other shops on Manhattan they run :-).
