You always have a tremendous sense of depth in your mixes. So many interesting and textural things to listen to. Nice changes throughout the whole piece. The vocals work great and there is some nice effects on them, they sit well in the mix.
I'm an old fart and can't believe I'm still making music. I am all the happier that other guitarists still give me credit. But it's a burning passion that won't let go of me, and I'm with Bob Ross, the great kitsch painter: you may not be able to change much in life, but on your canvas you have the absolute power to do whatever you like. Thanks for the kind words.
Cheers, Micky
I like this, reminds me of the trippy feeling the Doors would achieve in some of their songs. It has a "smokey" mix meaning it has a haziness, blurry almost feel to it, trippy. Looking for the pipe now, lol!
Great mix, not over compressed, lots of space, just right!
Thank you Wayne, for the stop by. I have developed a EQ technique that I use on any of my guitars that allows me to get that sound. In one aspect you're correct in assuming that I used the neck pickup, All of my guitars have the old Humbucker pickups. MY secret is adjusting the neck pickup at just the right height along with the EQ to get a Smooth Jazz guitar sound. I've noticed over the years that guitar players have forgotten about adjusting the height of the pickups. Thanks again for the time. Sorry for the delay reply. PEACE. T576 OUT.
U2/Eno-ish, my first impression. There is a nice sense of depth to the track. So many people mix so everything is at the same level, too high a threshold on the master channel most times. You do a good job of layering the instruments so they don't compete.
Hey Wayne - thanks mate, yeah the mixing often takes some time but can make such a difference its worth a bit of tweaking - appreciate you listening and looking forward to hearing your new one - Ian
Quite a mix man, production must have been a bear to pull this off. It's like Hayseed Dixie grew some balls and metamorphosed into the Beastie Boys on acid, lol! But that's good!! It's really beyond that though.
I was just on my way to your place when
I got this comment email.
I tried. I really did but, I just coudn't
leave that damn Banjo on the table. Something
about it's energy just drew me in. It seems like
lately I havn't been able to finish a track without
running into a sample or sound that sends me off on a
whole nuther track. I've got to have at least 10 or 15
Start/Stop projects in my DAW. BTW... I went and listened
to some "Hayseed Dixie" (I thought you made it up lol). Now
I've got ideas for another track lol.
Thanks for giving my track a listen, comments,FAVE! and for turning me on to "Hayseed Dixie"
First off, sorry to hear about your health. I noticed you hadn't been here in some time but so many regular visitors have left here in the past few years. Hope you are recovering and feeling better. Get well!!
Cool track, worth the listen. Deep, moody, a sense of adventure, hope and much more built into this idea. Hope there's more coming and that you're up to it!
Hello Wayne
I hardly like to say it, but getting well will always remain just a dream. But there is legitimate hope that I can still play for time for some time.
Right now it is of course all the nicer to receive positive encouragement for what is important to you. And music is and will always be a really important part of me. I don't intend to stop just because I've fallen into a deep dark hole for an extended period of time.
Since this song was something like a liberation, some new songs should see the light of the looperverse soon. Some just waiting for their completion.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the kind words you wrote and the time you took. It really mean a lot to me
I love when tracks almost write themselves as your description notes. I like to call them one day wonders, you blink your eyes and an almost finished song appears, That's when you know you've got a keeper, like this one. Good stuff!!
Yeah sometimes it feels easy and there's also days when it's a bloody struggle - but that can still give some interesting results, so I refuse to give up. My track "would you rather" took 2 weeks to gel and I'm still bloody proud of it :)
Thanks for listening Wayne!!
Thanks mate - I think the original mix Id used a new FX that cluttered the sound on the poem, I thought Id lost the stems but found a couple of rendered parts so I was able to do some reworking
Nice track, the drums set the pace so hold on! A little more volume on the mix and it will be more impactful as you continue to work on it. Hopefully you add some hits of some other instruments or some more melodies here and there to fill in the spaces. Some nice wood drum/percussion kits out there that could add some spark, just a suggestion.
Well done! Cinematic for sure, lots of tension and excitement to the track!
Yep, just needed to get the concept out there. There is no real need to up the volume/master quite yet until I feel like I'm done with everything haha. Thanks for the feedback!
This is very cool! I understand what you mean by "what genre is it?" Even though is has that hip hop vibe to the beat the music also has an pop/alternative feel to it. Creative like Trent Reznor. The vocals are strong and well mixed. Very textural, fun to listen to and to hear what you did on the production side of things.
Hey Wayne - thanks mate - you know I love your stuff and very much value your contribution creatively and as a someone who is a careful listener and warm spirited community member. Look forward to hearing your latest - Ian
Solid track, great punchy drums. Diego has a pretty good voice and the music works well with his voice and delivery. I almost want to hear them a little more forward in the mix. There are a lot of effects on his vox. Cool track, pop to me as well, any listener could enjoy this!
This is pretty catchy. Vocals are working great with the punchy beat. In a way it reminds me of the band Spoon, never complicated songs but each one interesting in it's own way.
thank you humps. i never listened to Spoon and i thank you for recommending to me. i listen to "the hardest Cut" im love with this band, specially their sound design. this is my new goal to sound more like them. they have a great bottom end and voca are editetd gnarly. im always on the hunt for new inspiration. love from a banana
So the new job is working out? Always a refreshing new beginning when starting a new job. Hope it all works out Paul!
This has a cool, pop, refreshing feel. The transition or change at 2:10 was nice.
My suggestion when you mix it to watch the threshold on your compressor on the master track. I usually have mine around 11. Then I use a limiter to gain after the compressor. If you put your threshold too low on that compressor, you make all the tracks get the same level and loud, too loud and too congested. Use the limiter to get the loudness while keeping a good level on the instruments with a decent threshold.
thanks for the stop and feedback Wayne, im still a little raw with production but trying new things all the time. i used a limiter on the vocal tracks and two on the master its getting the balance right though, i use fruity loops and although theres a few stock compressors, i dont think they are brilliant, i'll keep practising, your advice is priceless mate and always makes sense
Sure, I can hear the Steely Dan influence, nicely done! Well written and composed, I didn't hear any earlier versions, been a little occupied lately elsewhere but this sounds fine. The singing, the harmonies are reminiscent of SD, nice job with that too. Two thumbs up!!
Your neighbor singing? That's great! Not a bad job. I'm always asking people I meet if they have any musical talent hoping to get lucky. This has a cool vibe, a little spaghetti western(to me)with a Floyd rock influence.
it's my neighbor who wanted to "try" on a classic pop rock track, for his part and for the first time I think he did the job not too badly!!!
thanks again Wayne !
Michael
Some nice lows cooking in my headphones. Nice choice of instruments and sounds, I can hear everything clearly! Vocals are also well done, effects are subtle on them but present.
Nice interpretation of this track, made it your own. Another KC song, cool!
I started I'm Your Boogie Man and sent it to Joe Funktastic for horns months ago, he was excited to jump on it and then he vanished, haven't heard a word since I sent him the tracks.
I thought KC did some catchy pop/disco tunes back in the day. Good to see people doing some classic renditions of some cool tracks, keep up the good work Mickey!
Hey Wayne, the same thing happened to me once with Joe....I have no idea what's up with him. I overheard something like he was sick. No idea.
Yeah, KC man... they can't easily be dismissed as dance pop... it's a little bit more than that. Their guitarist, Jerome Smith (God bless him) was the reason for me at the time, me too get a Telecaster. I loved his style of playing rhythm guitar... Nile Rodgers cites it as one of his influences.
Anyway... thanks for listening.
Good collab! To me, the music isn't totally hip hop, it also encompasses a new wave/pop sort of feel to it, late 80's. The vocals work fine with the music.
Hi Wayne, it's more a dedication for CC than a worked composition, but I like to vary the styles even if it's not always a success lol! just for fun !
Michael
From the first note I was hooked, loved the intro. Some cool changes and transitions. Tons of energy continuously exploding through each part. Loved the lead part around 2:00!
I like the approach you took with the music and how it works with the vocals. A tropical and romantic feel happening. There is a nice pace and vibe to the track, good for dancing. The change around 2:40 was cool, great way to end the song.
I think the bass and drums could come down a smidge, it'll open up the guitar and vox a bit more, in my humble opinion. I have a tendency to have the drums cracking too loud in my songs and the bass too muddy or not loud enough which sounds muddy almost. Been trying to work on that.

What guitar are you using? Sounds like an ES guitar, ES 150, 165, 175, something along those lines, a one pickup git, neck only.
