Sorry for taking so long to get to this one. Damn man, this is so freekin cool! I've never heard of Skinny Puppy but after hearing this I might go check them out. The vocals/lyrics are so well done, interesting and fun. You just keep getting better and better with your vocals and your creativity level is soaring!! Great job working to get it all right, nice work to both of you on this one.

Always never knowing what to expect and that's why I enjoy your tracks so much!

Cheers!

Hey Wayne, hope you are doing well! Thank you for taking a listen and leaving your feelings here! Really happy that you enjoyed listening. I guess I'm surprised, and also not surprised at the same time that you hadn't heard of skinny puppy. Surprised because they've been around a long time now, and not surprised because they were never very mainstream. I identify with their singer/songwriter ohgr very much. I think you might get into cevin key's solo stuff though, who is their main synthesist. "The Ghost Of Each Room" is a really spectacular album. I'm glad you found the words fun, I honestly didn't expect that kind of reaction considering the verses, so thank you for that. I've sang several songs since recording this, and I think the main thing that makes this better is that I spent more time perfecting it before calling it finished. FarM and I thank you for your kindness. I don't know what to expect next either, so stay tuned! Take care!

Wow Simon, this is fantastic! Great job building the track and use of the vocal samples, they sound perfect for each other. Sweet ending, nice guitar work. The mix is exceptional, I must compliment you for that. I miss you and some of the other "older" members being around and hearing your music. What else can I say that others haven't already, great track!

Nice to see a friendly face again.... ;)

Nice laid back rock track, cool feeling to it and I like the pace of it. Lead guitars sound great, cool effects and tone. Vocals are excellent. There is a melancholic, somber tone to the track which I like a lot. Creative ending as well.

Well done!

From the first measure I was hooked. I love Minette's vocals to begin with and you added just the right amount of instrumentation and effects. The production quality and mix is top notch. Love the vocal effects at the beginning, very creative.

Fav'd and dl'd, thanks for sharing!

Must have missed this one, haven't been on much lately, let me explain. My septic system in my new (rented)house just crapped out on me and you just CAAAN'T put that shit off, lol! Been going on for like 3 weeks now, damn. OK now lets talk about this 3 song track of yours.

First part was pretty darn cool, very professional sounding, imho. The middle part takes on it's own feel and took me a few secs to acclimate to it. I liked the vocal snippets you used. The third part is a bit more rigid and really separates itself from the first two parts as far as it's feel and the vocal samples were cool. But I guess you want all three to be separate and still flow together, seems like you just did that pretty darn well.

Very cool track man. You have now mastered the 3 for 1 special. I will now bow in reverence. Namaste.

Hey Wayne cheers for stopping by. I hear you as i've had a similar problem with my drainage thanks to a plasterer pouring all his crap down it.
Glad you could stick around for all three tracks i think the first one is easily the best.
I'm currently working on a whole albums worth of a mix. I got 63 minutes so far and the end is in sight. It's hard to keep a mix going for 80 minutes i tell you.
Anyway, cheers again for your comments, they are always appreciated.

on A Thousand Times ft NateMonoxide by RealProblemShuckers
NateMonoxide has some of the coolest pellas here so good choice with the vox. The drums are pretty straight forward and the bass has a cool bouncy feel. It is very simple in it's instrumentation, maybe by choice(Simpleton reference?). It's mixed well, I think maybe another melody line in there with another instrument might fill it out more and give it a little more interest. It is catchy and I listened to it several times. Well done RPS!

Hey, this sounds pretty good, cool beat, kinda chilled out pop. I like the lyrics and the message here, totally get it. I understand you used an inexpensive mic and I do agree with doudei that maybe re-recording them will help when you can do that but the music is solid, maybe a little remix when you can do the vocals. Nice job, well put together!

I noticed soundhound did a remix on this and wanted to check this out. It's mellow with a bit of an edge. The piano is well constructed and to me is the lifeblood to the track. Nice atmosphere and a great collection of sounds all working well together.

Now off to review his version!

Cool intro and samples at the beginning and end of this intro! Well done on the lyrics and performance. The singing part from 1:05 where you sing "and I'm at home there" is quite a catchy delivery. I hope it appears here and there in the song, it's a good little catchy hook. Well done overall, look forward to the full version.

on Afterglow by DrvanLansberg
Well done on this one Doc! There is a cool, funky, smooth, acid jazz feel to this. I am a big fan of percussion, the bongos are a nice touch. The sax sample was a great addition. Liked the keys, I can hear a few different ones, all classic sounds. I think the mix sounds great but I'm only on my second cup of coffee. ;)

Can't really find anything to suggest or find wrong with the track, sounds like a keeper to me. Great job Doc!

Thanks for listening Wayne! You have a great ear. I indeed used two different Rhodes for the chords and the solo. Chords are more spread for atmo and the solo is more centered with tremolo. Well spot!

Let me know if you hear some room for improvement pon the mix after you 10th cup of coffee :-). Always willing to learn.

Cheers, Doc

I absolutely love this track. I got into Louis Prima years ago and we played lots of standards in my band, Vince Guaraldi to Dave Brubeck and more so I can completely get into all these styles of jazz, blues, swing and dixieland. You did a great job mixing them all together and making it all make sense. You are quite talented Scott, great one here!

Thanks allot, Wayne. You're kind words really made my morning!

Yeah, I was exposed to allot of jazz and big band in my youth and played it whenever I could, even when my friends were playing rock. Than I was exposed to classical. My friends would come over with the latest Led Zeppelin or Who album and I would be listening to Mussorgsky or Art Blakey. I often hear someone hear say, "I don't like jazz, but I like your track." They don't think they like jazz because they don't listen to it! But I digress.

Cheers,
Scott

I must say it is a very creative song. Cool bass for sure. The vocal samples were interesting, some sounded like they were drunk, lol. Overall the many effects on the vocals and the lyrics cannot be overstated!

Hey buddy, thanks for the kind review! I know you're always up for some out of the ordinary listening, and I appreciate you coming back for more. The different vocals were stretched and manipulated into submission, hence the drunken vibe... oh and all the liquor in the last couple weeks probably played a part. It's kind of like I was trying to do something along the lines of what I did long ago, except with modern software. Kind of worked out. Thanks for taking a walk on the acid side!

You and staticnomad should battle it out for the longest track, lol. Haven't been around much, glued to the World Cup and haven't recovered completely from giving up that late goal against Portugal.

This is my first track of the day, listened on my headphones and sounded good to me. Each part had it's own distinct feel and personally I liked the groove and feel of the second half of the song, I guess it would be the middle part. I thought the steel percussion around 6:30 was a good choice. The parts seem to match up nicely and went well with my coffee.

Good luck with the move!

I wondered why it had been a bit quiet round here of late but of course the world cup is on. Thankfully i'm not a football (or soccer as you call it) fan or i'd probably be crying like 90% of the country is at the moment because our team was laughably shit. I prefer tennis myself so i shall be tuning into that.
Anyway, glad you could find a moment to stop by and i'm liking the new avatar as well.
Cheers again wayne.

Like I said, just take it for what it's worth. I said I wasn't familiar with dubstep or even know what brostep is. All I was doing was making constructive criticism so that that vocals were easier to hear. Sorry if it offended you in any way. And I do like music that is outside the box but I also want to hear the vocals as well. Wasn't insulting you or your music, just trying to help, sorry, won't do that anymore.

SUDDENSHIFTOFFICIAL replied 20th Jun 2014 - 11 years ago
haha I wans't taking offence, every one has a different taste in music! but if you search riddim dubstep you will find alot of dubstep sounding like this now, type in JUB DUBS, I'm aware you don't listen to dubstep so I didn't take it heavy hearted sorry if my response came across the wrong way :P

on Peril - Imposter WIP by SUDDENSHIFTOFFICIAL
It's interesting as is and I'm sure the final mix will be different. I would suggest making the drums a bit more interesting and use the wobble to make an impact, seems just a bit overdone. Now I am not a big listener of dubstep so I am only suggesting more from a general arrangement/producer point of view. As the vocals come in they seemed a bit drowned out by the wobble, maybe give them some room to shine. Just my 2 cents, take it for what it's worth.

SUDDENSHIFTOFFICIAL
SUDDENSHIFTOFFICIAL replied 20th Jun 2014 - 11 years ago
Yeah I am currently working on the beat adding a few drum fills in the 16'th bars, and it's more of a riddim dubstep track than a skrillex / nero / mainsteam whatever dubstep, and the vocals sound perfect with the wobble on the headphones I'm not sure about the subs / speakers yet I haven't tested, and yeah I could do that make it brostep like and all in your face, and be a conforment or I could stay one step ahead and keep experimenting and making weird music, you clearly don't like anything outside the box, this music is too unorphadox for some I guess

Definitely a heart pounding journey. Would sound great in the movie "Apocalypto" during some of the chase scenes. Loved the drums, very impacting. You made your own flute? That is very cool! Well done, track sounds great, lots of intensity!

to speak the truth, the movie "Apocalypto" was the source of inspiration for this song.

I watched this movie a few years ago and was particularly one of the best to give inspirations for this kind of music.

the flute was made by a joiner, drawn and painted.
totally homemade. Seems to be ancestral.

I played during free time, to build the notes of this song.

thanks for the support, and for leaving your words here, are all appreciated.

Nice one man, love acoustic guitars so right from the beginning I was interested. Thought the strings were a good choice. The song has a "soft" feeling to it, meaning there are no rough edges or any hard, bone jarring sounds, everything sort of blends together nice and easy. Mix is fine, I think I missed the original. Pretty cool track, dig it!
