Really enjoyed the track Evan. "Bunnies and meadows" lol. Ya know something though, people who like bunnies and meadow music might start following your music now. In essence you are growing your fan base and that is one reason why we do this.
Good to hear the beginning part and how it seems to evolve into a harder edged sounding song, a little more of what "your sound" sounds like. There is a Celtic feel going on that seems to permeate through the whole song. Some diversity in the guitars as well always works.Nice work man!
"people who like bunnies and meadow music might start following your music now"
Not sure if I want to meet them. My wife and I keep to ourselves because we've noticed that MOST people really suck to be around. There are few in life you can truly trust, and people who are really into bunny-meadow music probably wont make it onto the list!
Sounds a bit like blues rock, very soulful, the original parts and the guitars as well. I dig the piano especially. Playing a new guitar is always so much fun, especially if it's a player. An older SG? Bigsby? I especially like some of the tailpieces on those guitars. I used a Rickenbacker 360 for a week or so and fell in love with it.
Thanks Man...
I really try not to play like everyone else, but really there is no way
around it because like talking, we all use the same words depending
on how large your vocabulary is, it's no different in playing an
instrument it just depends, on how much you understand what you
can say with it.... :)
Yes...This guitar will stay with me, my friend lost 2 of his fingers in
a work related accident...Companies fault he got payed big time for it...And he gave me the Guitar, being the one that got him started
playing in the 1st place...
The "Rickenbacker" is a nice Axe, but like a "Les Paul" just way to heavy for my taste, sounds good but don't want that hanging on my
neck all night....LOL...
Glad you enjoyed the track...
Pretty cool track, it has a cool edgy sound to it, a bit industrial and rock with some electronic elements to it. I would suggest putting some more volume on the final mix, I did crank it up though. I like it, mix sounds decent. Big deep bass, yup, like that! Not too sure about the clapping and vocal parts but the music rocks. Reminds me of Fatboyslim and the Chemical Bros. style of music, electronic rock.
Damn, this is very well composed. Didn't you just comment on my latest track about posting a song without drums and getting backlash? hehe
Contemplating the "big" questions about life is profound. Most people don't think too deep about such things. I found when I had something similar happen and I did the same thing. Just to be able to display those emotions in the form of music is pretty special and therapeutic.
I can't ever say I've heard anything quite like this. I don't listen to electronic music much but from reading some of the comments here you did something very unusual and off the wall, lol. I tend to agree but I like that it is so different and jacked up and full of energy.
Wow, this is an ambitious song. My guitar parts sound a bit out of key though a bit flat.lol There are some very cool parts to this song, I really was digging the part about 55 sec where the strings come in, I replayed that part a dozen times.
There is a lot going on here and you seem to have been given some input. I recommend simplifying the song and just picking the best parts out and focusing on those parts. I have to hand it to you though, you used a lot of people's loops, pretty creative on that level alone.
Thanks, Wayne! Yeah, i see your point. Your guitar loop are really out of the tune a bit in this track, and that part are a bit "flat" or "rough" compared with the rest, this is because i find it interesting to leave that part a bit simple, made for a contrast against the more complex other parts.
I think i will make a shortened and "harmonized", less chaotic version of this somewhere the mid-range future, when it's already "out of my ears", but that will be another song i think (like an nitro and outro version for something).
Hey Dave! Have to say the intro was great and captured my attention right away. Loved how all the parts flowed so smoothly, the transitions were smooooth. Nice job to both of you. Zappo and you work well together, you guys are on the same page for sure.
I have to comment specifically on the guitar, there is some very cool psychedelic guitar here around the 5:00 minute mark and after. Felt like a trip back to the 70's when jam rock ruled. The bass is sounding sweet as well.
The last couple minutes were a trip, really brought a smile to my face to see where you guys took this. Fav and dl, thanks for sharing!
Hey Wayne, thanks buddy..Zappo is definitely a great composer and like you I always love to hear his guitar playing,he obviously has a deep influence from the period you mentioned(unsurprisingly seeing as he's in our age group)...cheers mate be on your page soon. Dave :)
Great tune Scott, this brings me back a few years! The horns in the original are unbelievable, you did a great job with this version. I'm always watching all kinds of music on you tube and I'm always finding myself listening to 70's music, there was so much great stuff then this one being quite memorable.
Nicely done! Very cool guitar indeed. Totally digging the drums. Nothing more fun than cranking the amp up a few dbs!! I believe Billy Gibbons was on a recent episode of Live From Daryl's House(Daryl Hall) and performed a few of his classics. If you have some time check it out online, it is very cool. Gave this a few listens and gonna fav, well done!
I will definitely have to check out that episode. Billy's getting up there in age but can still play. Thanks for weighing in bro and YES, finally someone who likes the drums! Thanks a lot Wayne.
Very creative, ethereal piece of music. Nice description, helped set the scene. Great choice of instruments and well executed as far as composition. I love finding music like this to fall asleep to, it's so peaceful and calming.
Wayne, I'm so glad you liked this one..:)This is one of that kind of songs you never know who's gonna like it and who's gonna remain stone cold. Thank you so much for listening and for this lovely comment!:)
Hey Richie! Hope all is well. Sounds like you've been busy. This sounds great, nice singing by Lisa. There is an easy feeling to the mix, soft and gently. The piano stands out, very nice work.
Just listened to Spelljammer's version, two wonderful covers.
There are a lot of good ideas here, lots. I think the mix needs just some tlc.
I would cut back some of the limiting/compression. It is killing the dynamics of the song. There are so many cool things that need to sit back a bit further in the mix. They add a lot to the song. By using so much compression these things now are as loud as the most important parts of the song and they now interfere just a bit.
Great rhythm guitar rock based song. Big heavy chords lay a beefy foundation for the vocals. At least 3 different rhythm tracks that I can quickly pick out. They all have their place, nice mixing.
Great story song with personal lyrics. It rocks. That is always a good thing. Nice one Mark!
This is great, your vocals are strong, the music works with them perfectly. I listened closely to the vocals, there are some big delays and reverbs happening, that is very cool. Can't go wrong with Allen's guitar tracks, amazing is the word that always comes to mind. The song reminds me a bit of the Brand New Heavies a bit Well done!
Thank you Wayne for stopping by. Very attentive ear you have regarding the vocals. As you mentioned, I used delay, reverb, and doubled the vocal to give that, "SupaNatural" feel...lol.
I so appreciate your comments and will be stopping by your LooperPad to see what you are up to.
Very well constructed, sounds right from the time in the title. The synths are right on. Sweet guitar playing, you rock man! This sounds like something out of a 90's movie soundtrack. Everyone who took part in this did a great job.
Hey, sorry if you felt I was being dismissive of your track. Let me explain a little more to help you understand what I meant. I am referring to context. The big picture. Songwriting and composing. Whether experimental or not there are some things that can make or break a song idea. My analogy would be like putting an earth tone rug in a room with pastel colors painted on the wall. The bottom line is sometimes things don't work, no matter how much time and effort we put into that idea.
For instance, you listened to my latest song in which I used live instruments for the most part. I used a harmonica in places where the Bee Gees used harp or orchestration of some sort. If I had chose a saw synth instead of the harmonica, playing the exact notes and melody, would it fit in the context of the big picture of the song? Probably not. The choice of instrument would be too synthetic sounding and would certainly bring a few comments about using a saw synth in a song using live instruments from some of the loopers. I chose strings and a trombone vsti to back my live instruments. Those sound appropriate for the track. Once again, context within the big picture.
Just trying to help with some constructive criticism. I know there are a million ways to put music together and I certainly don't discourage experimentation. I was unaware the song was experimental. From the description I read it to be a major sound scape production of your scenario. I was just pointing out some things I noticed that stood out to me that could help with that production.
I am glad that we have our dialogue so we may have this open discussion regarding this track. Believe me (us) when I say that I take your feedback seriously, and give complete credence to each point you make. I was at no time angered, or upset, by your criticism regarding this track. My only concern was to be taken seriously as to the effort put forth by any projects done by me and/or MORTradio. Although I am humbled by many of the musical talent that resides on Looperman, I do nonetheless put for serious work when submitting to Looperman, if for any other reason, out of respect for them.
You have great experience and an exceptional talent, and therefore when you have something to say about my work I put forth on Looperman, I am definitely going to listen. As I said in my earlier comment, each of your points regarding this particular track were valid, and I took each one of them sincerely. Trial and error is the name of the game, and with each track, I hope to gain a bit more insight and knowledge from individuals such as yourself.
I will continue to enjoy your work and will always welcome all your advice and comments.
Interesting idea and blend of sounds, a bit all over the place. Not my usual listening style. I thought the track had some issues. Some sounds are random and a bit forced into the track like the vocal sample at 2:20 and the ooh aha vocals around 3:00. I would get rid of that guitar sound at the beginning, it's not real guitar and it doesn't really add anything to the track. The guitar transition at about 3:25 needs a little work to smooth it out. Maybe ease off the limiting to give things some breathing room.
The song really needs some focus, it is kinda all over the place. You have dance vocals in a rock song with an electronic feel. I don't know your history of music, you seem new here, this may be just a fun hobby. I tried to be constructive, hope it didn't come off as bashing your track. It is just a weird collection of loops that seems to work at some level, lol.
I (we) don't feel at all as though you were "bashing" the track that I submitted. You took the time to evaluate the track, and gave your input, which we could not thannk you enough for. Obviously, with your own personal background in music, your input is more than valid in its regards, and if I was to re-edit the track, I would definitely use your points in my notes regarding any re-working of this track.
Nonetheless, although your critical points are valid, I do feel as though you are dismissive of the entire track as though it was thrown together for shit and giggles, which was far from the case. It is experimental, that is for sure, and being experimental, there is always a chance that certain aspects of the track would not work. Perhaps the lack of focus comes from the cinematic editing mindset that I have during editing. Perhaps I look at musical loops as filmed scenes that can be edited together to get a character from point A to point B. I am not saying that is the right way to edit musical tracks, but it was how I was looking at it during the making of it.
On a side note, my history of music is limited to playing banjo (Gibson Mastertone) for approximately 20 years, and bass (Hofner Violin Bass) for about half that time. I wanted to learn guitar more (my biggest influence was Poison Ivy from The Cramps), but work seemed to suck up most of my time, so that fell to the waist side. Actually working with a computer audio mixer has only be about a year and a half. As far as joining the Looperman site, I am a noob (less than six months).
Anyway, enough of my long winded rambling. Again, thanks for your input and feedback, and for listening to the track.
I had to look up who Sandy Nelson was, pardon my ignorance but after listening you are correct sir. The drums do indeed have a similar style and are also very cool. I dig songs played using lots of toms. I love good old straight up blues based rock and roll. I want to sit in and jam, ha!
Ever hear of Hoyt Curtin? One thing he was known for doing was tv cartoon themes like Jonny Quest in the 60's. The drums totally rock in his music, you may like his music, figured I would suggest checking him out. Been listening to him a lot lately.
Not sure how ya got Ian Anderson to play some flute but that was a neat choice of instruments. ;) Was it live or a sample? Cool horns, guitar, keys and of course the drums were exceptional. The composition was as great as the execution on the production/playing.
Thanks for your most pleasant comment. I sure wish we could jam together. Although I do love making music digitally with my friends, I do miss live playing.
Sandy was a big inspiration for me. Not a great drummer, but he played allot of drums in his music, which, as a kid, I really liked. I looked for anything with drum solos. Hell, I literally wore out In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
I checked out Hoyt Curtin and, although I've heard his music for years, I never knew who he was. Really good stuff BTW.
Yeah, Ian and I are pretty tight, so he helps out on occasion. These were samples, unfortunately.
It doesn't take much to make me happy when it comes to music, nice, simple music with great lyrics. You seem to find a way to capture that essence of songwriting and exploit it for all it's worth. I am pretty envious of your lyric writing skills and singing abilities.
Such a wonderful track, love your singing, just beautiful!
Thank you :) Theres always hits and misses but as far as the lyrics for this one I think it turned out pretty good myself. I am really glad you had a listen :)
I love music like this, a well constructed track and everyone performing like professionals. Great addition with the clarinet. Mix is fantastic, I like the added percussion too.
We need more music like this here, keep 'em comin'!
Hey Alex, this is a cool rock track. I played bass with a drummer for a short time who played like the drum track you put together. He, like the track, was a solid rock drummer that could always throw a some kind of fill or change making the song so much more interesting. He never overplayed and it always fit the song. I like the drums here, they are interesting all the way through. Snappy snare too!
After hearing the intro I wasn't sure where the song would be heading. The theremin was a cool choice, not every day you hear that in a song. Real ones are reasonably priced actually. ha All the guitars and synths you used blend real well, plenty of space in the song but boy, there are a lot of things happening.
Well done to you and megapaul on the guitars, not sure who did what where but all of them were placed to mix well. You can do so much in the rock category, to me one of the most versatile genres. Always a pleasure Alex!
Firstly I am happy you liked the drumming. It's from EZ of course and it is some fine funk performance with lots of cool ghost/dead notes.
I think it fits perfectly Megapauls style which is extremly funky, here is the list of loops I used:
Some of them are played much faster though (the actual tempo is 110bpm). All the rest is me playing Roland synth.
I listened to all (over 200) Megapaul's loops and am so impressed of the quality of his guitar work.
For sure I will try do more in a rock area as I only used only a few of his loops here (which I downloaded earlier). I do not play guitars of course so I will always need someone to make them for me if the genre is anywhere close to rock. I guess this one is still more a funk-rock or simply fusion.
Thank you again for some nice words. Always appreciated!
Charlene has a great voice, strong and hauntingly beautiful at times. The instrumentation you added seems to tie it all together. Mix is solid, nice highs and lows and the vocals merge with the music seamlessly. Quite a change from the original, dig it!
Pretty cool track. A cool laid back easy groove, kinda hypnotic. The vocals add quite a bit. Mix sounds good, the effects you used, the reverbs and delays worked to give the song a big stereo feel. Must say this one works for me, well done!
Hi mate thanks for listening, Ableton live 7 is still throwing up little suprises for me regarding mixing and mastering, every time I find a new technique I want to go back and remix all my older tracks!
