Now a days, it says your friends would be admired for even knowing what a harmonica is, he.
I like this, the guitar is squelchy, to me guitars need some effects when you are to create this type of atmosphere. They could even be louder I think. Lots going on, the flute is sweet, the electronic bits are neat, especially in my headphones.
Keep at it Paul, well done with the lyrics! The mix to me is a bit heavy in the midrange eq. And no, nobody's ego is bigger than the dumbest, most narcissist man in america, trump. lol.
we had Boris and you had Trump, brothers from different mothers, both fuck ups, but they both made me laugh though, i just thought, how the fuck do you get away with it :))

Cool, I like stuff that isn't "off the rack", stuff that shows some ingenuity and not afraid to try something different. To me, the drums should have been a bit louder, more impactful.
Hey Wayne, thanks for the listen and feed back mate. Yes, I should probably come back to this and up the drums a little in the mix. Hope you have a great Christmas break my friend. Chris
I'm late to the party but it doesn't mean I'm not enjoying it as much as everyone else who's already commented! Funky but let's start with the fun part of funky first, yeah, lots of fun to listen to, upbeat and bouncy! Listened on my headphones, such a great mix!
Do you mix both with speakers and headphones? I have to have my last listen be speakers. Great headphone mix!
Hi Wayne, I mix with two different pairs of headphones (one pair of very simple but absolutely neutral ones and one pair of very high quality) and with speakers. I always switch back and forth between these three sources and adjust each time until it fits well on all three sources. However, I'm not completely happy with the sound of my mixes yet, but judging by the general feedback, it sounds pretty acceptable.
I'm glad you liked the track. Thank you for listening and the fav.
What a happy beat, my feet can't sit still! Being older, I can remember all the music from the 70's, the funky, disco music that was so popular. This brings me back to those days. The guitar strumming was great. Did you use a wah wah or volume pedal on it? Well done!
Cool intro into the beat, it clarifies to some mystical, almost spiritual beat. I've got to say, you can transition with the best of them, some neat and interesting musical vignettes all sewn together quite exquisitely.
From reading your replies I can see what the song means to you. Don't get me started, lol. It's a neat track, reminds me of stuff U2 did about 1/3 into their career, Zooropa/Lemon era. I have absolutely no idea what makes this trip hop but who cares, it's a neat piece of music.
Sorry to hear about your suitcase. I just adopted the neighborhood cat that 4 different people have just left water and food outside for her her whole life, ~ 6 years old. They move away and the next person starts feeding her. I started petting her and she was so lovable and underfed. And when my neighbor couldn't get the cat in a cat carrier when she moved, she asked me to feed and water her. Well by then I was already feeding her and she was sleeping on my bed every night, he. Awesome, most sweetest grey tiger cat! All she wanted was to be someone's pet.
There is still goodness out there, even if in small kitty sized amounts. Don't lose the faith brother. :)
heya Wayne — U2’s a band i’ll try rediscovering. zooropa was the only full record i connected to at the time, seriously cool stuff from edge.
the story about yr new roomie illustrates your point in ways that hit home, dude. redemptive acts oughtta feature more prominently in my head. thanks for that, buddy!
Cool intro to begin with and when the groove kicked in I was putting on my earth shoes and transported back to the 70's funk/disco era. Roller skating music from when I was a teen. The cool guitar leads at the end was unexpected and much appreciated, took it to a new level.
Hi Wayne, aha, roller disco... when I was younger I would have liked to go to a roller disco, but we didn't have one. Just the normal Euro Disco stuff, with the unspeakable clothes, hairstyles and so on. I heard some really cool disco in Ibiza. Back then they had a DJ from NY at Amnesia who pretty much had the first maxi singles and mixed them. That really impressed me, especially since he had managed to get people to tear their clothes off. But that wasn't a roller disco either. Anyway, thank you for the compliment and especially for the fav.
Cheers,
Micky
You haven't skipped a beat with your absence, this one is a banger, great intro so it captured my interest right from the start. You say sad but I think there is a lot of upbeat positive vibes happening here. Just the volume automation going from softer to louder shows a rise, movement upwards, a positive direction. There is positivity here too.
Way to go Paul! Cool lyrics and great to see you expanding your musical boundaries. Always good to see a collab happen around here, congrats to both you guys, well done! Don't you just love when lyrics happen that fast, 25 min, wow!
cheers Wayne, i think you know me well enough now to know i will take on any challenge, ive done some good collabs here but i am most proud of this one, Danke is a Fantastic artist and i never assumed for one minute that i would get an opportunity to sing on one of his tracks, but it happened.
you being a singer songwriter yourself and a huge help to me personally with advice and encouragement, know how that feels when every thing clicks. i pressed play on Attila' music and started singing the chorus line/hook out of thin air, i commented immediatly asking if i could do the vocal heasked for and wrote the chorus down, he liked and asked me to stay on that path, i listened to it 5 times back to back and the track was wrote, an hour later i had it layed out and was singing it off by heart, i was surprised myself how everything clicks, yeah dont ya just love it
Adding distortion to a cello, interesting. Good intro then it settles right in. The vox and the effects you put on them work well in this context. Good song for the halloween season!
Almost expected to hear some Pet Shop Boy's vocals on it. Don't know why but I do, ha! To me it has the mid 90's alt rock feel to it, The The, Tom Tom Club....
you know that didnt occur to me in the making, but jesus, i guess i owe more to the pet shop boys than i realized!! thanks buddy hope things are holding up for you!
Hey Bill! So what did you get for a new git? I recently purchased a 2023 "inspired by Gibson" Epiphone Les Paul Standard(smokehouse burst) and a newly re released Marshall Guv'nor pedal, unbelievable sound for the money, couldn't be happier. My guess, you bought a PRS.
Nice track, dark, metal song. Overused the tremolo? Can't be done, impossible, he. Vocals work great with the music!
Heya Wayne. You guessed right another PRS guitar. A custom 24 with a Floyd Rose on it. The Les Paul sounds like you are having a blast with it. I have heard lots about the Gov'nor pedals, giving you that tubey Marshall sound. I hope you are having fun with your new rig !
To me the threshold is too high on the compression on the track, too loud and things are competing in the mix, my 2 cents. The waveform shows that block look which is telling. Nothing wrong with the song, very peppy, upbeat, you always bring something cool to the table.
I have had Logic Pro for many years, some nice sounds and instruments in the package. I found it a bit difficult to use and not as easy a workflow compared to Ableton but it definitely is a step up from garageband. Make sure when you bounce down a track to check in the wav/mp3 settings when bouncing down to turn off the normalize. For a while I missed that when making mp3s and my tracks sounded too hot and not the way I mixed them.
Hello Wayne, how are you? Glad you liked the song. Yes, and thank you for the helpful tips. I tend to be a little loud - I guess it comes from my youth... hehe. I already knew the normalization button and used it on this track too. I think I'll grow into Logic - since it looks like Garage Band, I'm already sold on it.
Cheers
I was reading your response to dimestop's comment and started thinking about our individual take and approach on songwriting/song topics. A lot of great singer/songwriters preach to be true to your own path, no matter where it takes you, as long as it feels right to you. I say sing about whatever make you feel you are doing the right thing inside your musical heart.
In a lot of my songs, the character is always down on his luck or in a bad situation, making bad decisions and getting into some kind of mischief. Life isn't perfect so write about it, right? It's relatable.
yeah i agree Wayne, life isn't perfect so writing about the imperfections gives the listener an outlet to relate to. and yeah i try to stay true to myself when writing/singing because the last thing i want to be to the world and to myself is a false idol. i appreciate the comment Wayne.
It's great we can use this technology to record our ideas, change them at a keystroke and capture our musical thoughts at any given moment. It's a great tool for the creative music maker.
As far as songwriting, I can come up with more than 10 song ideas in as many minutes with changes and lyrics. Im not bragging but literally, song ideas just pop up in my head once I put that guitar in my hands and I get to work. Freaky in a way but kinda cool how the creative part of the brain works.
Thank you so much Wayne!
Yes creativity is a weird thing. I'm not sure I can create 10 ideas in 10 min, but I've now found a reasonable flow that allows me to go a bit more in depth on tracks but doesn't block me trying to get it "perfect" (that's as good as I can make it, which is extremely far from perfection).
BTW the track that frustrated me last week is the track I uploaded today... so all's well that ends well ;)
I did watch some of Blake's vids. Quite an earful, production was varied and different on each of the tracks I listened to. I can see why you find his music interesting, at least.
I once wrote a song called Black Clouds Complaining. It was about storm clouds being described as having human traits and comparing the thunder and such like people complaining. I made the musical arrangement on the drums not normal meaning I had 2 chorus's in a row, the change 2 or 3 times n a row... as an exercise to make a sensible song out of the weird drum arrangement. Song came out good, my production and mixing were shite at the time.
"Look outside, it's raining, the black clouds, complaining"
So will you reveal the artist you are trying to emulate? To me I hear some Bowie in it but there is too many electronic tidbits. Bryan Ferry will be my guess then.
Big reverb on the vox. All the instruments sound fine, well placed, well mixed. I like songs that reference clouds in their lyrics, so many ways to express feelings, emotions, actions with cloud descriptions.
We have so limited genre options as real music makers here, there's not enough genres crossed with rock. But dance?!?! lol just kidding!
The artist is James Blake. I had never heard of the man but he's absolutely amazing and has a wide variety of music. Bowie and Ferry are great comparisons I think.
I'm also sure that everyone who knows James Blake will now go "what? no, this is nothing like him" and that's fair enough, but if you don't know him, give him a listen.
I like that you liked the clouds. They sort of were an afterthought to the lyrics and then they somehow became the theme, which... sometimes that's how it goes, you know :)
Hahaha ok ok it's not dance. So what is it?
Ambitious production Paul. In some way it reminds me of the Style Council. Music is light, has its standout moments. It's def your style, well done with the lyrics as well.
hi Wayne thanks for the feedback, wow there as got to be something in your comment for sure, i may of mentioned before Paul Weller was one of my idols growing up i loved the Jam he was a political artist so the comparison is a great honour for me, he must have rubbed off on me :))
Very nice track Mos! The vocal effects are what I notice first, they work well with the music. Someone mentioned floating in their description, good way to put it. The music just floats along while the vocal bits sit it them bringing them more into the focus.
The side chaining effect is fine with me. Each song needs it's points of interest and you used this effect. I'm ok with it, maybe you don't use it again for months. It stands out here because it's prominent but it works fine here. I certainly don't know all the elements of house music but if it sounds nice, I'm down with it!
