on Clarity Mix 3 by Spivkurl
Great industrial groove to this track replete with Robo voice over - great stuff. Which of your arsenal of toys was involved?
Spivkurl

Thanks for checking this track out! I did use one toy on this track - that was some drums sampled from a hing hon EK-900 keyboard kind of a famous circuit bending target. I like it because of it's driven analog sort of sound. Thanks for the review!

Very mid 80's rock feel to this one - nice harmonised guitar parts - good old school stuff.

Very new wave indeed, it reminds me of a Dutch band called Gruppo Sportivo back in the eighties - good stuff.

on The Sea of Gladness by Planetjazzbass
A truly gorgeous piece of work. Lovely jaco-esque harmonics and ambient backdrops remeniscent of Steve Hillage's work on "Green", a rare treat and definately one for the favorites list - well done.

on When Hippos sing with Frogs by n0mad23
Great african feel to this one. The meter and those low end frquencies do indeed convey a kind of weighty loping movement and there is definately a hippo snort in there - great stuff.

And it's the one track that's got no African drums on it! Funny how we can invoke location sonically with the right/rite frequencies and rhythmic patterns. I'm glad you can hear the hippo snort, too (which is how I came to title it), as I thought maybe I was the only one. Glad you dig it!

Nice thumping grove to this with lots of interesting prcussive elements. I like the vocal and the change in melodic direction around the 3:10 mark - cheers jfw.

on Where Do We Go From Here Ft. Nesrin Asli by Cyryus08
Nice track - Asli Orcen has a great voice - I may look into incorporating some of her acapellas in my future work...

Thanks jfw :) She does have a great voice, perfect for that neo-soul sound. It's a catchy hook, too! Can't get it outa your head lol. And that's all her, lyrics/melody. I did the vocal arrangement, but the singing talent is all her! Thanks again!

Great title - it fits the mood. A nice mix of loops, I think you're right though, its crying out for a vocal line or possibly a sax melody. Good work.

on Dancing in the Dreamtime by n0mad23
This is definately one for the inner-space voyager or psychonaut. I can feel the Entheogen beginning to take effect. Ayahuasca, Delysid, Psilocybin - the choice is yours...
On a SERIOUS note - this track just gets better with listening - great remix.

JFW knows the lingo! Yeah, I guess it's time to explicate the "frog" totem invoked in the "Hippo" piece. A few years ago there was an entheogenic conference up in Whistler, BC and psilocybin was brought up. One of the organizers called on the Hiada and Kwakiutl elders at the conference and asked why the native Pacific Northwesterners didn't use the mushroom as a tool. The response: "Yeah, we've always known about the mushroom. It's just that it's the domain of Frog, and everybody knows that Frog the Trickster is a pathological liar. You can't trust anything from the realm of Frog." Two personal totems are at work here - the Terror invoked by Hippo and the uncertainty emphasized by Frog. Glad you dig it! Hope my little explanation makes it even more enjoyable!

Strange mix this ( in a good way ) - Reggae dub / toasting, flamenco, atmospheric cinematic backdrops and a nice vocal loop. Good stuff...

on Jungulation Victor by n0mad23
Hi Nomad,
This is a great track and an excellent arrangement. If they ever remake the Daktari tv series ( anyone here, old enough to remember that!) this would make a good new theme for it.

n0mad23 replied Unknown
jfw - Ha! I hadn't considered Daktari, but Johnny Quest has come to mind twice (what 3 or 4 years earlier?). Thanks for the review and "hearing" where it should be used!

Hi Planet, This is great work - very discursive. Excellent outside soprano sax and your bass is very like Victor Bailey - super track.
