hi again, just had an impression that the intro drums (0:00 - 0:15) are phase-panned. At the moment I experiment a lot with the effects but I never 'move' instruments like this. of course you can pan them even hard left/right but the drums for the most part drive the the tracks like this so such an effect is a bit strange here, at least for me. I think the 'retro' tracks like this need simply quite different kind of effects. Alex
Thanks for the explanation of what you are hearing.
First the toms are always panned left and right on a normal drums set. I just played the toms they came out panned left, center and right. The panning is normal. Play your toms on EZdrummer or a similar drum machine. The snare and kick are dead center on a mix. Just as is the bass.
I kind of like the panning on the intro it makes the song sound different.
Again thanks for the comments. I hoped I explained this to you.
hi midiman, I much enjoyed a kind of a retro 80s 90s(?) pop sounds in here. Excellent work on this one! the only thing is some strange processing(s) added to the entire track (panning?) and also to the single parts that make it sound so special and unusual(?) but its still relative of course...
great track! Alex

hi Scott/Franco, I really like the laidback kind of harmonic
ambivalence on this track created between the bass, rhythm guitars and vocals. But the sax solo was excatly at point! Some flutes as well. Overall very smooth vocals but still very strange mixture of sounds. Anyway very chill and relaxing despite of the vague chord changes. I guess it depends most of the bass line. Well done. Alex
hi again again,
ha! my kraftwerk-best-of piece would be definitely 'the model' which is a kind of a 'song' too and the one that somehow defines the style. anyway Im enjoying much that particular kind of a minimal-industrial groove present as well in your recording. Nice work on this one and simply keep it up!
Alex
hi hi again again lol I love The Model! You are right about how The Model sounds like a synthpop song instead of spacy and robotic. On that album The Man-Machine, it's so different from the other tracks but soooo good! :)I like all KW's albums but the Man-Machine was the first I ever heard and it absolutely blew me away so it will always be my favorite.
Thx again for the kind words Alex! :)
hi, nice song and very fine vocals. It reminds me somehow of 'The Beautiful Ones' by Prince http://www.izlesene.com/video/prince-the-beautiful-ones/5274857 maybe because of the synths and long reverb on the vocals. Really great work on this one and I enjoyed quite original production. Keep it up!
Alex
hi, Farisha's vocals are great but most of them are processed by some weird autotuner. Anyway always wondered how you get such a loud mix and outstanding waveform in your productions.
NIce work. Alex
hi again, I like some of the changes you've made here by rearranging the song. Sounds really good like this. The only thing would be that the e piano which I particulary like (the one playing some nice rhythm) seems be a little bit less present here. Synth bass and pad blend-in very nicely in the recording. Im really enjoying this one. NIce work. Congrats, Alex
Thanks for actively listening Alex! I've made the e-piano a little more present, just for you bud haha, but no i agree it was getting a bit lost in the mix. Vocals yet to be added ft. Larry Barrow. Stay tuned!
hi, I really like your version - its wide and transparent. nice piano fade-in. the drum fill (3:23) sounds also very nice like this. The strings, brass and woodwinds are pretty much 'one' at the end without preffering any particular section which is good. Overall very nice work!
Alex
hi again, there's some really cool bassline in the original one indeed but I preffer your slower version cause it has this nice chill keys, some fine pads and lot of space. the vocals are also better at a normal speed... It happens! Great track. Alex
hi, a very strange and special but nice work. You compiled some industrial vocals, noises which I find great into a kind of a weird dance track... but somehow I'd say that I like its athmosphere and unsettling image... Alex
hey, very nice song. really interesting main theme that could be used as a cinematic soundtrack as well. I think the reso-filtered bassline (0:42)which sounds very metallic doesn't work quite well with the rest at least at the very moment you introduce it. Although there's many elements that sound even more metallic in this song... You could also change the drums at 3:00 - maybe they are just too repetitive throughout the track and seem to stand out from other instruments at times. That will give maybe some more live and flow to the track... hope its useful.
But anyway it is quite nicely done and I enjoyed your work. Alex
I do appreciate your words. This is actually my 2nd attempt at making a Metal/Rap oriented track. It is tedious, and I feel this was mediocre of me to have done this, however...I figured friendly loopers would tell me what I could do to better myself for future purposes. Thank you again.
hi, really nice sounds and very smooth production. I do not know the original one but this song is very good: really chill and kind of funky indeed... Simply nice work. Alex
Thanks for your kind words.. the original was a huge hit here in the UK 7 years ago. This one track made a whole new genre called 'Bassline' popular at the time. If you get a chance you should listen to it - T2 ft Jodie - Heartbroken :)
hi again, so the brass section and the percussion work... and of course the world 'war' in the title make me think of your track being inspired by a Shostakovich's music - extremely dramatic, melodic, very nostaglic and expressive. Some of the sounds you get from your midi orchestra (you don't need any better software anyway!) have this quality of his music... Its a bit long piece (ca. 50min) but I think you may find yourself in it... Alex
hi,
I really like the concept behind the song: the continuing presence of some repeating bassline. It reminds me of some classical baroque period (or renaissance) pieces being variations and improvised elaborations on the 'basso ostinato' or 'ground basse'. What I like also in here is the tone of the bass guitar with a little of warm stereo delay effect. I think the drums you're using could be dryer and closer, especially the snare one. From 1:55 its not so easy to get the proper feeling of them when listening even though you somehow 'doubled the tempo'. But anyway they have a nice and gentle tone which I like... So I just thought that might turn your song into even much more 'acoustic' one and help the really good guitars in here. Nice work - I enjoyed it and am looking for more, Alex
hi,
Glad you like the track. I'll be messing with the drums soon so I'll keep what you said in mind. I'm using a standard kit with reverb, and a hip-hop kit with delay at a lower volume.
"From 1:55 its not so easy to get the proper feeling of them when listening"
Not sure what you mean by that. Not loud enough? It's just an open and closed hi-hat. I'll look into the level.
hi, niiiice teaser but quite different dnb from your last one... more dark and intense but a bit melancholic.
Very good start for a song.
looking forward for more. Alex
hi, this is really well done. It definitely reminds me of Shostakovich's Symphony nr 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTqsU7tQW48 I really liked what you did here - this is very expressive and interesting orchestral composition with really fine arrangement. excellent work! Alex
hi Ookami, this song sounds quite different from your other songs I was listening last month... Im really enjoying this. it is really relaxing and nice played. Dreamy.
Alex
Thank you Promenade. This is on a new scale of music types for me. I enjoyed this making this one. I do appreciate your time to comment as well as listening.
hi really interesting and quite original piece with some unexpected twists... constantly changing. I like all processed dark-ambient-creepy-cinematic type of sounds. I think the female voice at 0:36 needs also this type of distortion or filtering to cooperate more with the rest, other than it stands out a bit... but still this is only my personal preference. I like the synths around 1:26 and 1:39 - it sounds really interesting. this part seems to be a sketch of some other minimal track itself...
really good work. Alex
Thank you for the comment promenade! The female voice is meant to stand out differently to give the audience a different journey then they would actually expect. This song Alex, is kind of a minimal track of another one. It's the brother or sister of this one. Thank you again for enjoying this.
hi there, very cool retro music with lots of twists and interesting loops. Very nice piano. Laidback guitar playing at the end - it blends in so smoothly... I love it!
Great one! - very chill and relaxing.
Alex
hi again, just wanted to add something more because this is a great tune. I really like minimal tracks in a way and you did it very well eventhough there's not so many elements in here... But everything sounds balanced and right in place! I mentioned Kraftwerk because this is definitely a bit old-styled 'robotic' music. Never heard about the band from the decription but again the song reminds me of some 80's german electronic. I enjoyed the stylish synth sounds you're using here and very interesting sampled vocals and industrial noises. The reso/cutoff filtering work on the loop makes it sounds very classic and retro indeed. Very nice work on this one! Congratulations. Alex
Thanks again Alex! Maybe you know or maybe not but I am a Kraftwerk fanatic! That's probably why I like Mr.Robot's loops so much. Some of them have that retro, robotic KW sound to them. Like I mentioned, the idea of the track was to keep it tight, minimal. I can tell by your review that you pretty much heard exactly what I was going for. Adding very little elements on top of the track outside of the filtered breaks and the sampled vocal sections was the design. Letting the beat drive the track. I appreciate the comments on the production too. Always room for improvement but I'm trying :)
Really nice to hear from you again. Peace brother.
hi, really nice chillout song. I like the strings and some delayed synth sounds. I think you might just remove some strings chords or change the harmony when you introduce vocals. they don't work always well with the same loop and seems like there's something in there that clash slightly (about 1:08 mark). but the vocals sound very nice with the bassline and with the piano - it just one or two chords to adjust. Overall the song is fine and I enjoyed it. Greetings,
Alex
