Great stuff Doud. Patricia is delicious. If you want a guitar track on any of yer tunes juss lemme know. Yer work is inspiring. It would be fun and I'd be proud to work with you. I do great soul riffs.

cheers man and great to hear you are up for some guitar action since i don't have any guitars besides my beloved bass guitar.
i can make use of properly recorded guitar sounds in almost all tracks and all kinds of form at some point.
so i really appreciate what you said and lets do this!!! :)

on melodic synth draft by doudei
Yeah, what DJSLTU said - some big drums kick in and the song takes off. I can hear that with a big guitar riff taking that to outer space.
doudei
doudei replied 9th Nov 2013 - 12 years ago
hey glad to see you here too. it would be AWESOME if you could provide some guitars for this!
i already took a few sampled guitars that came with studio one but its of course very inflexible and usually a big ache in the heinie as soon as you need to change something.

they fit not too bad already. i could send you a current export tomorrow then you can hear where i was thinking to go with this and let me know if you are interested in giving it a try and recording something.

Wow! I liked it so nice I listened twice! I love your voice - in fact you're making me pant! :-P Wanna get married? Haha! That all said, I do hafta critique you a little - you seem to have slightly exceeded your vocal range on a note or two here and there. Work it a little bit - maybe double track some of the more challenging part. Overall sweet. Better than my singing, that's for sure. :-)

Usually when I see banjo i run the other way, but you make very diverse genres play together nicely. Wicked cool dude.

"you make very diverse genres play together nicely"

That's a really nice way of putting it.

Yes, people fear the banjo! But I don't play it in a regular way and there's hardly anyone using it in electronic music - it's all predictable country and bluegrass, some jazz etc.

I've found one guy using it in electronic music and he's very good. But I've forgotten his artist name!

I like playing it with lots of delay and in a an Eastern style. Have recorded loads with it in past 18 months.

Go to 5:20 in this track for some crazy cool banjo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxNcxo-sPwE

Very nice. What do you use for bass sounds? Very fat. :-)
StaticNomad
StaticNomad replied 28th Sep 2013 - 12 years ago
Almost all my synth sounds for last 12 years have come from various synths in Propellerheads Reason software, which I've been using since version 1.0.

Quite a few basses in this and they are indeed quite fat.

on Releasing The Albatross by SamAndHisGuitar
Badass jamming dude. Particularly like the tone of the guitar in the beginning of the 4th section (1:09). And the outtro trips me out. I might hafta do somethin' with that and send it back to ya. We can play Vandenberg and Vai. Hey, I was in the AF too. Good breeding ground for guitarists I guess. Kudos!

on When the Queens Come Marching Home by topvega
That's an awesome sounding guitar dude. It would make Ace Frehley jealous. Is it a Lessy?

Critique: Dude, you gotta get rid of the drum machine and get acquainted with drum loops. Machines sound like machines. Loops are actually musicians recorded so they are far more organic than machines. And really when you play against a loop some high quality musician recorded, you are in fact jamming with that human being across space and time.

Plus actually using loops is WAY easier than fussing w a drum machine.

Anyways the human stuff sounds hot. A couple good loops would light your beat right up. :-)
topvega
topvega replied 20th Sep 2013 - 12 years ago
Thanks brosef, I appreciate the kind words and the critique.
The drums are actually not a "drum machine" but a drum sequencer called JamStix 3. I will be the first to say I don't do them justice. I have not a clue on how to get the best sound out of them. I have heard others who have and the program is really good at giving that "live drummer" sound and vibe. I started out using nothing but samples but got lots of criticism at how stale and monotonous they sound. I am currently working with Addictive drums for all my new tracks. I have been playing guitar for many years but the whole producing and engineering is brand new to me and I am still learning everyday. I do plan on going back in and seeing if I can rework the whole drum part. Might try using a loop and Addictive Drums.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen and leave a comment.

I love yer krayzee New wave stylings Spiv. You do got a great voice and I think whether raw or processed - I guessed that's a matter of preference. Fun overall. You'd probably be perfect for my song Real World. Only problem is I don't have a version w/o lyrics.

Hey, thanks for stopping by! I'm pretty proud of this one because it was so spur of the moment. I'm experimenting with vocal effects more on this album, due to my obsession with Ohgr. I'll go listen to your song, I'm curious!

Like it. I'm definitely into the space jam sound. I like the music at the end better than all the nasa stuff. I alsdo like that it's the kinda song that's just one continuous verse - just like a space flight would be.

If ya want a real guitar on that lemme know.

on MOLLY by REDBLAZE
Kinda about to echo Pippa Red. Kinda not my style - pretty hardcore - but funny - tongue in cheek I assume - great flow tho dude. If I were to make a suggestion I might say it's a bit minimalist - and yes I appreciate that style - but I might throw in a couple whistles or corny sounding loops just to add some spice.

Lemme know when the CLEAN version comes out.

Hey, I used to roll w 2 Live Crew dude. I do appreciate a good dirty joke.

Peace.

Yeah, I feel King Crimson in there too. Every heard of Planet P? I think you'd love that band. Big hit some called Why Me? Two perfect albums - Planet P and Pink World. "Only You and Me" "The Strangers" & "The Shepherd" are faves. A true eighties synth master.

on Eyes Closed ft Katie Bregman by RampatheSwift
I like where yer goin w it. You have a good sense of off-beat rhythms. Maybe being all the way down in NZ helps isolate u from Diznee radio (which has sterilized amerikan muzak perhaps beyond repair) and gives you some opportunity for some original thought.

I think you'd need to do the piece using actual drums live to really hit all that interesting offbeat just right. But cool dude. BTW, I am also a fan of Katie! :-)
RampatheSwift
RampatheSwift replied 22nd Sep 2013 - 12 years ago
Haha no don't be fooled.. we get the same horrible music on most radio stations here, I just choose not to tune in. Oh too bad i can't play the drums hah. I agree though. Maybe i can randomize the drum hits slightly to give that human feel.. almost human lol. There are some Looper users that use really good drum samples in their tracks and it's really not that easy to tell that they're not played live. I need much better drum samples to work with, then maybe i'll dupe listeners in the future =). Thanks for the comment.

Yes this song is verrry strange haha but i like ta be a little bit different. This one of the more weirder ones tho. Hey good call on the lyrics. I know what he's sayin cuz i've heard it a million times over, but i guess most wont pick up on them haha. No no never heard of King Crimson before. Shall check it out tho.

I like the song. Obviously it's my genre of music. I'll be brutally honestly to help you improve. I like your voice, but the singing is a bit raw. Sounds like the lyrics are actually a little hard to sing. Perhaps a little production on the vocals would smooth out. Don't take this critique hard man - I'm no Freddie Mercury either. I do like the style. Thanks for sharing. I'm gonna add you to my list of interesting musicians.
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 4th Sep 2013 - 12 years ago
Thanks for taking a listen to my song, and welcome to the site! Actually in comparison to my other new songs, this one is pretty easy to sing, and it was done in one day. The spontaniety of it is what I like. I'm curious about what kind of additional production you would like to hear on the vocals? I usually like pretty raw vocals, but in this case there was a decent chain of effects going on. I appreciate the support!
