Very nice work here mate! I love how you started it out with that piano. When the vocals came in, it really captured my attention. Your voice is really nice. The overall atmosphere of the track was done very well! I could actually see this being in an old movie.

Great work sir! Keep it up!

Thank you for your kind words Modnex. I've been practicing my vocals more seriously of late. So it's good to know that my work is paying off.

Very nice indeed T.A
Super mix with some lovely arpeggiated guitar/piano parts. The vocal is superb and that snare is just perfect when it rocks in at 2:18!It would have been easy to over cook the last section but you have stuck to the main theme of the tune. Its got a kind of Joe Bonamassa ballad vibe.Really into this one.Great work.

Hi Rhodesy. Really pleased that you enjoyed the track. I'm also relieved that you didn't find the last section "overcooked". It was tempting to keep adding stuff until it was bursting at the seams, but I was good and did not give into temptation. Plus my laptop would've exploded.

Cheers,

listening through the mixing issues there lies the beat of a really creative song that has a really strong message. I also love the vocals and they need to stand out more. This is like a raw demo of a Kate Bush cloudbusting era tune from a male perspective! Keep working at this one.

Thanks for listening Crucethus. I've only recently started listening to Kate Bush. Although I remember seeing the video for Experiment IV as a kid and having nightmares for weeks. Anyways, I love how every song she makes has it's own unique signature. They're always engaging, but never sound like Pop from a can :P
I think I may put this track aside for a while and re-evaluate it at a later date. Otherwise I may end up making it worse and I'll lose it anyway. Thanks again.

One of the best tracks I've been listening here on Loopey
in past few weeks. This is what I call a good taste! Unpretentious but full of creativity and skillfullness. On top of it vocals and interpretation are splendid ! What a pitty I can't download this.:(...Big 'fav'!

Hi Orlando.
Really glad you like the track and that you don't find it pretentious (I always find myself thinking "Have I gone too far this time!?"). Sorry about the lack of download, I get the feeling that I may go back and tweak a few things that still don't sit right in the mix. I appreciate the 'fav' though, always makes me smile :)

Hi Danke. Really glad you like the track. I worked so hard on building and mixing it, that by the time I recorded the vox I was scared I might ruin it! I'm glad it paid off though. I'm sorry I didn't give you the chorus you would've liked, but I had no idea what to sing on those parts. And I'd rather have no vocals than half-arsed ones :P

you have a good control over voice and a nice tone. for my taste vocal could be a bit more in front of mix. I like all the sounds you choose. create a neat atmosphere in this song. nice work!

Theres a sort of Mad World/Gary Jules theme to it - love it

I accidentally hit the post button, ha. I wanted to mention that I liked the lyrics, they sit in the mix well and the pizzi strings was a cool add. Is there a mandolin in there?

From personal experience I can say I've had that same problem with mixing and production. Good to hear you got what you were looking for.

Another great song...very musical and poetic at the same time. Good intro with dark and massive piano sets the mood very nicely. Vocals and interpretation are a very bright point as well, while the arrangements overall sit within the concept very nicely. Maybe I would rethink a few things
in mixing/production department (but just maybe), particularly the volume levels of actual instruments, but this minor doubt doesn't detract me from fully enjoying this wonderful and emotional tune ! Faved !:)

Very deep, dark song with your low-toned vocal...very much like it...I know that the song is measured on it's own state but for me all of your numbers a bit short...could listen it for a while...:-)

Toasted greetings.

Some foreboding piano notes and then some pleasant strings.

0:26 sounds like a very brief little reverbed vocal note as the pizzicato enters.

Vocals seem quite prominent to me. They're good, as usual. Maybe just take the instruments down a bit in level at certain points.

This is pretty decent at this length but I can really hear how a variety good beats would fit well here. How about doubling the length, with a drum heavy second half?

I wasn't keen on the final 8 seconds of sound effect. Didn't seem necessary and wasn't how I wanted to remember the piece. I'd also be happy for the song to just start with the piano notes on 0:11. You can tell what did nothing for me in this one!

Good work, all the same.

Static salutations.

Thank you for your informative critique. It's funny that you should mention the idea of a drum heavy second half. It's something I've been experimenting with, but I just can't create or find the drum sound I want atm. It's very frustrating.
As for the final sound effect, if it's leaving the listener with a bad impression, it will have to go.

Cheers,

TA

Nice little number.
Enjoyed listening.
I have no idea how these genres are arrived at. This to me sounds like something I would have listened to back in the early seventies from stoner hippy band ... that's a compliment not a put down. Just stressing I really don't the genre thing. My latest effort has the word God in it a few times so for once had no problem which label it was getting ... straight into the religious music group of course!
One criticism is ... I think the vocals should be a little clearer. Little sharper. Little bit more prominent.

What a brilliant little miracle...I'm absolutely impressed
by this one ! I know very well the nasty feeling when the
creativity tends to slip away, but that's nothing compared to a feeling when it comes back..:) And here it shines !!
Huge favourite !!

Thank you for your kind words Orlando. Now that I've got back into a creative flow, I feel much better. Working on this track has also given me some nifty little production tricks for future songs. So I'm pretty happy with the result.

Like others have mentioned how good the piano is, I tend to agree. I thought your poem and the effects on the vox worked well with the piano effects. It's a solid and focused idea from a songwriter and producer's point of view. Hope this one inspires you for the next one.

Congratulations on a soulful chillout track. Simple and yet a deep message. Stuck in the past, how can one move on? We must learn from the past then move foward.

In the beginning there with the piano, i thought it would turn out into an Adele type of 'hello' song. But I enjoyed this. When you're are stuck for creativity in music, do what i do, get creative in other areas of your life. And this will inspire you back into music making. Bro poetry.com, hahaha i have some poems still on there from way back in the day.. Blessings brother - Billy.

Thank you for the advice BillyD. I've actually started reading again recently and I've found that has helped me a lot.

And I promise never to turn into Adele. Not even once.
