Hey SJ
What I like: 1. The intro is very eclectic and what I like in a song that I personally like to listen too.
2. You have started to develop a better sense for arranging in a tasteful way. To explain that I still hear your distinctive piano sound with the slap delay but it sits much better in the mix now and it adds to the composition and doesn't overwhelm it as in some of your earlier creations, bravo, you kept a distinctive trait and made it a strength in your work now.
3. You fit the vocals in perfectly timing wise and in the mix.
What I would like to see different:
1. There is a lot of dynamic compression which hurts the delicate musical sounds you have placed in the piece. like that sweet oboe sounds a bit choppy with the delay of the piano and such.
2. Though getting better I would like to hear more distinctive bass-lines throughout the piece. I heard some sub bass and hints of bass here and there.
3. Your choice of vocals is not very inspiring to me, but that's just my personal taste I guess. I think for your style of composing I want to hear a vocalist who can belt it out of the park, but I realize that we won't find that easily on the pella pages. (no offense to Virginia slimm)

Over all it's a great job you did on this one and just a pleasure to hear your sounds and choices getting better and better. Good Work.

Thanks Steve for the advice!
Yes there is big issue with some of the sounds overwhelming all the others, and the bass line is totally underneath everything else and nonexisting at the moment. I'll try to fix this!

Cheers =)

Hej igen Orlando, and thank you!
The minute I got my computer back with a DAW in it I started again. It's horrible without composing, listening is not enough.

Just downloaded your brilliant song - thanks!

Very good feelings in this piece, and I love what I'm hearing in the lyrical work. I like Virginia Slimm's work very much, and you've used it well. Cool style on this, especially considering what I expected from a "dance" track. Reminds me of the early nineties folk revival a bit. Mixing down the FL piano was a great idea, much better choice for not revealing it's flaws. All in all, I love the song, and it speaks to me at this moment! Fave!

I also love this vocal - it stands on it's own, no music really needed.

Why your a serious musician now..because when your given constraints..you make something out of it due to your obsession to music. If I had a badge I would give you one.

Hello,
This track very good, creatively laid out.
Nice dance, however your gain is too high that at the top end there is a distortion.
Maybe it should be a touch lower this is my view though.
It’s great job though.

Tjena SJ!:)

So nice to have you back! I already wondered where did you disappear..hehe...I won't talk about clipping...This sounds just excellent to my ears and that powerful piano is perfectly ok. Great choosing of vocals also. This will go to my favs although I'm another one who care least about genres, so I'm not an expert to tell you...All I know this is pretty damn good track and that's what counts the most!

Tjena Orlando!
It's good to be back, I've missed you all and felt really lost without a functioning daw. It has been a horrible spring and early summer - but it's a long story.

Thanks for the appreciation! The genre doesn't matter and I'm so glad you liked the piano anyway! I really put my soul into that piano roll...maybe I can polish it some later on 'cause it's a little clumpsy sounding like this.
Thanks for the uplifting feedback, really needed it.

Hope you are doing fine and enjoying your summer so far!

Cheers and take care/ SJ =)

Hey there, SJ! :)

That piano is really interesting haha. The bassline behind it add a strong punchiness that I really like :P The vocal at the beginning is a little too loud and clips at the loudest part - might want to bring that down just a bit or add a compressor to even it out. The vocal sounds really cool :D Really big and spacey. You did great making it fit to the music imo :)

Cheers!

Hi ER!
Thanks for the feedback - the "piano" yes...ehrm I needed some piano in my life after this long musical break and this is what came out of me. =D
I could probably replace some of it later, with some other fake instrument. :P

About the clipping in the beginning, noted. Thanks again!

Cheers/ SJ =)

Don't you just hate it when songs come out by accident? ;D Automation is really cool to work with. Filled all 50 slots already!?! I remember when you started here :D Only suggestion, cut some of that lower end with eq to cut the mud and get a clearer sound.
SeriouslyJoking
SeriouslyJoking replied 3rd Apr 2015 - 10 years ago
Haha, yeah hate it when it happens.
Cut the lows? Yes I can try. I was actually working without headphones for change here and I'm not really pleased with the result now when listening with phones on.
Maybe my monitors aren't really ideal for music making.
Thanks for listening!

Very solid track you've made here. I love the energy of the intro. Very layered and complex and the sounds get on really well. I'd like to mirror soundhound's suggestion to get a rolling bass somewhere in the mix.

Kind regards,

Steve

Hey thanks!
I'm not that good at creating a bass line but I'll give it a try tomorrow.
Also hearing the lack of it and some other flaws I'll try to correct.

Or maybe even upload it here if I still like it my self...

Getting back to you sooner or later. Thanks for the appreciation!

Beautifully done, SJ! :)

I don't know if it's just me but I could've sworn I could hear some clipping in the mix. Gotta be careful there. But the piano is very beautiful! And the vocal is mixed beautifully with everything else! Not too busy, which I definitely like! Keep it up, SJ :) Look forward to hearing more!

SeriouslyJoking replied 1st Apr 2015 - 10 years ago
Hello ER - there could very well be some clipping.
The drum thing is taking a lot of space in the mix and I did EQ and pan it and all the other sounds but I also turned up the volume when rendering...not the most genious thing to do.

Going to work some more on this I hope and add some bass etc. and check the levels more closely. Just that the computer with the daw in it is behaving badly...it could die any minut. =D
Thanks for listening and leaving a comment, you talented young man.

Cheers/ SJ =)
