Hello SJ. Luv the use of the vocal here...works well with the mellow music. Play around with a fast attack/release compressor on vocals (start with 2ms attack/285ms release and -20db threshold, use an 8:1 ratio and maybe a 10db knee-See what you hear). Would luv to hear the guitar as soon as the first string is plucked in the intro vs fading in (just me). Lot of dynamics here. This should sound nice and crisp with proper EQ-ing, compression and a decent mastering effort. Good job.
-SM1
Hi there StylesMusic1!
That's some really detailed advice about the vocal and the other stuff - I'm deffo going to try that if I manege to follow your instructions (good instructions by the way but I'm still such a noob at this mixing stuff).
Thanks a lot!
I think this one is my favorite of yours. I like how mellow it is, but at no point is it boring. The arrangement is very well done, as well. It has a more organic, seamless flow to it than a lot of your earlier work. Not to say that your earlier work isn't good, I just think this one stands above.
I know what you mean with finishing one before starting another. Not only do I have a hard drive full of unfinished projects, but I have a couple closets full of unfinished paintings. So, I'm really bad about not finishing what I started. That's one of the things I like about this site, it kind of encourages you to cross the finish line, ya know?
Again, great track. I always enjoy seeing what you come up with.
Hi ValVedriVer!
I'm fine thanks - also hoping the same for you and your family.
Really rewarding to read you comment! Thanks for listening. I'm still struggeling with the mix here. Or...well to be honest, not struggeling at all at the moment because I took a break from it. =D
To be continued anyway, I hope.
About these countless unfinished Projects - we'll never get bored anyway, that's for sure. I would also really want to see some of your paintings but I guess that's for an other forum...
Take care you multi talented friend!
Cheers/ SJ =)
you did a fine job arranging this one. vocal filter is interesting on the pella, sort of a distorted feel. I might want to back the vox down in the mix just slightly and bring up your wonderful arrangement. Also later in the mix I would think about adding some more complex percussion. But truly a nice piece of work you have here.
Steve
Hi Steve!
I'm still holding on to my new me and working strictly on this track to get it finished.
And I did just the thing with the vocal you suggested and turned it down a bit so it's not as much in your face as before...but is it too quiet now?
I still have to redo the vocal line from start and try to EQ out the distortion and get back all the power in her voice and all the other great stuff which are now drowning because of the poor vocal mix.
Also missing a proper bass line here but is it really needed when the guitar takes all the space?
About the more complex percussion - yes, I'll look into that also.
Just redid the intro and created an outro.
So I guess I'm almost finished with the first stages now!!!
YEY.
Thanks for listening, Steve and take care!
Cheers/ SJ =)
So sorry I misunderstood you. I guess your track sounded good enough to sound finished (as I humbly take my foot out of my mouth!) But honestly, it sounded finished to me. Everyone has their own technique for doing their tracks, so you do whatever works for you. If you are successful and pleased with your work, don't worry about anyone else. You're a wonderful musician, so do your own thing!
hi, this song has a lot of space which is very cool and calming to my ears. You can turn this one into a very powerful chillout track by adding a bit of the vocals to all of what you have already or maybe I'll wait until the proper vocals will appear. Anyway great and relaxing sounds! It's completely different from your other productions. I enjoyed it. Alex
Hi Alex!
I really hope I didn't ruin the spacy feeling for you now, with the vox...I think I might have. Well, still have the original in my DAW so I could always take it to an other more calm direction later on.
Not really sure what I'm aiming for with this song! It's sounding more and more corny!!
I'm planning on working some more on it and see where it lands.
Thanks for listening!
/ SJ =)
pleasurable tune , dolce & sweet .
haha! surprise ending is the smartest way to make listener repat the track & U've done it measured & smart .
hope everything goes fine with U ,beyond that monitor SJ .

Its got a really nice groove SJ...those little drops/transitions are something I sometimes spend less time than I should on but I think they work well...I didn`t really catch enough of the vocal part at the end to get a good handle on it...I usually try to make sure it is in the same space or a space that is complimentary to the space/atmosphere of the music mix...I like it so far...like you...I do not worry about genres when I am trying to compose and arrange a mix...genres are fine for those who want to abide by a particular set of rules...beat styles etc...but i dont find them useful (so I have to think about how the hell to I classify this when I`m done most of the time)....afraid I woiuld not be a good source of advice on composing habits....I usually have about a dozen compositions on the go...and one I am am focusing on...some times I find a new idea I can use one for...some times I too get sick of hearing something & hit delete so it leaves me free to think of other things...its all fun anyway....but I guess a more diciplined approach would be more productive....keep this one going.....Ed
Ed my friend!
Thanks for taking your time, it's good to know I'm not the only one!
I've worked some more on this now but it's yet far from finished. But at least I'm half way there.
Not sure about the vox going with this style of music but I'll continue on this idea a little more before I decide whether to change the concept or to use an other vox.
I've notice some members will put up half finished projects up. I guess that's ok if you want advice, but I've never been one to post anything till I am fully satisfied with it. I'm also a stickler for finishing one before starting another. I've just always been that way. I work extensively with Franco (ferryterry) and many times I tell him I have to finish what I'm working on before starting one of his projects. I'm constantly making little changes towards the end and until I say to myself, "I can't think of anything else to do to it," I just can't bring myself to post it...But I digress!
Anyway, very good job. Always enjoy checking out your work.
Hello Scott!
I must have wrote it corny someway because you misunderstood: I'm not finished with this one and I'm one of those who NEVER finish anything and post it anyway. Hence this project.
Haha!
Aaanyway - say thanks to your body Ferryterry for the guitarr loop, I could't find it in the forums anymore and thank him for it there myself so I guess he has taken it down for some reason.
I'll try to become more like you in the future. ;)
Cheers and take care! / SJ =)
I really like the basic riff - example :49 to 1:03. Track has a good groove to it although I'm not sure its a dance groove. I realize this is exploratory - I think the pieces are there they just need to be organized - for example the piece at 1:04 could be extended as an intro - :39 to :45 extended as a chorus. You stuff is always interesting and believe me your struggles and frustration are common to us all.
Much respect
-clindsay
Hi Clindsay, so nice to see you here!
I've worked some more with this, and developed the idea a little further.
Not sure if it's the right direction for this song and it's also becoming difficult to get room for all the sound frequenses now with the vox in place.
Not happy with the result so far but happy with myself persisting with trying to get this one done before going to the next one...haha.
And I hope all is well with you!
This is pretty funky. For some reason it reminds me a little of U2 just with a breakbeat behind it instead of natural drums. Cool melody. I thought it was really going to take off when that vocal came in but then it just stopped.
It's a nice intro so you should keep going with it.
FR
Hi FR!
So I finally managed to create some breakbeat kind of drums? Without even aiming too...well, I'll take that as a bonus. =D
Guessing the guitar gives it some U2 flavour, actually it's too much guitar, it needs some more instruments to lift off so I'm going to work on that and hopefully come up with a finished song in the end.
the first 20 seconds make me fall off from my chair! so cool! I`m really respect you idea and the track is working pretty well, but technically when the "drop" starts, thats around 1:00, the bassline sounds pretty wierd (out from key?) and the kick should be more powerful (in the whole track) use some compression, anyway the idea is 11/10 and I really like it! Cheers! :)
How did I miss this one? I like it. It's kind of weird - in a good way, of course (weird is always good ;) ). It makes me think of Massive Attack in their trip hop phase.
Plus for it ending at 4:20. lol Nice to see you with another track, really digging the piano. Synths are nice, could of done a bit more with the beat though. Maybe add a snare. It's only a suggestion but still manages to work well without a snare because the other instruments. Nice tune SJ! peace
First i wanna say -respect- just for a rework.
I done realy a lot of tracks and i love the most of them realy much. Some of them realy need a remake but i never realy had the power to do something mostly the same way again.
If i do, or lets better say -try to do- a rework, it ends still in a new version or a new song :)
You rework here sounds cool to me.
Maybe more skillfull peoples then me can hear things that should be done anyway else but for me it sounds good.
The vocals work good together in the way you used them.
I enjoyed the listen and i think thats wherefor you made it :)
This is really interesting. Something's not clicking right in the mix, the kick don't snap enough and it lacks fatness, but the composing skills are brilliant for sure! Keep working on it!
I don't typically listen to this kind of music, so I can't give a full technical review. But, I have kind of followed your progression as a producer since you joined Looperman. This track is a testament to your dedication. While, yes, there are some things about it that could be improved, overall, it's come a long ways since some of your earlier work. Keep it up. I look forward to hearing more in the future.
Take care.
v.
Hi ValVedriVer, that's very sweet of you to write.
There is a thread in the forums about listening to the old songs you made a while back and feeling very embarrased over how they sound - that's exactly it for me, ha ha.
So I guess there has been some kind of improvement in my musical skills over the time.
hi, I really like this one. There's again some long reverbs, phaser and other effects I recognize from your other productions but here it sounds just ok to me. For sure the track might need have better mixing if you want it sound good in the club but I can't comment on this cause I do not make this type of music. Anyway the song is very nicely put together but still you can experiment to find some more rational choices when managing all elements inside the song. You might consider to remove some of them even and have a shorter track but with more powerful structure - I know it is difficult when working with acappellas.
Nice effort. Alex
I was just checking your tracks list and noticed that you'r making songs in a furious speed! There is a new track every other day from you since you joined the loop. Talk about a super musical mind and devotion there!!
Amazing.
Yes, I'm hoping to have the patience to go back to this track and do some of the Changes adressed here and try to sort out the mixing issues. It could probably benefit from having it shortened also.
Thanks for listening and taking your time to comment!
/ SJ =)
A solid house track for sure. I actually liked the fact that the mix wasn't over the top it made it very enjoyable for the entire duration and didn't have the typical "side chain" pumping effect so common in tracks like this.
I made the original a while back, a year or so and have been trying to remake a better mix ever since but it's a difficult track to put together for some reason.
Hi. I think this is good, even though I'm generally not keen on a lot of house.
It is indeed a cool piano loop (pure hi NRG dance music) and I can see why you think it's the greatest in the world. But don't forget that there may be better ones to be found on other planets.
Some fairly catchy vocals here. I'm going to guess the Patricia Edwards one starts on 1:11 though that could also easily be a synth.
3:03 could be her too. Nice delay on that vocal. Classic dance there too.
Lots of stops and breakdowns in this one.
One small suggestion is for you to beef up the hats in the track. They seem a bit far back in the mix and I think you could make certain sections groove a lot harder with some more prominent and powerful hats. Also maybe use open (or at least more open) hats as yours are very closed and small. Hope that makes sense.
Otherwise, it's well produced and one that people will enjoy in clubs.
Hi Static!
Ok, I'll rephrase it: It's one of the best house piano loops in the universe.
About the three voxes - I didn't repitch Patricias voice that much higher than usual (but I know she really doesn't like to have her voice pitched at all so I'm playing with fire here). But I relly needed a high pitched womans vocal and those are hard to find.
The one 1:11 is a synth! It's a loop by MrFunctastic.
RarCharm has the chorus line and Isaiah Page has the slightly nasal little vox(and is sounding very good even though).
I'm still not happy with the arrangement in this song, especially the intro is still not good. And now I've been listening to this song for too long today. My ears are telling me to stop and never come back.
About the hats - yes I hear what you mean. I also Think the whole drum line is a bit dull and undynamic, maybe it's the closed, distant hats.
Have to EQ some more also to make more space. I still don't know why the tracks sound so different(usually better) in the DAW and loose a lot while rendering? Maybe it's the CPU.
And then there is the mastering...
Thanks for listening and for the advice!
I don't think people will ever get to hear it in clubs though. =D
Or maybe they will, one can only hope ^^
I can only encourage you to explore the sounds - Im a classical musician jumped into a laptop music making about 2012. I put much effort into this so far and now I can make some quite pleasant sounds at some point but still there's many aspects to improve and to exlpore... I'd just suggest you to do so and have fun with it:)
