I enjoyed this! The overall mix sounds pretty solid. Everything blended together nicely. If im being a critic I would say the vocals were a bit bland, perhaps some more reverb would of evened things out. I really enjoyed the lap steel. Good stuff, overall nice song.
Just so happens my stage name is El Blandido(the Blandit) so that works out good, ha!
I'm not a lead singer so my voice, when i sing, is what you're gonna get. I try my best but i'm not a lead singer. Ya need vocals in songs to work on mixing so I step up to the plate and sing if need be.
Oh nooo... :( poor #9... (number nine, number nine, number nine - reversed - turn me on deadman, turn me on deadman) You know, in my other life i'm a train enthusiast, collecting train models, so when i read "Freight train conductor" i absolutely have to listen to this! Anyway, like the style, the touchable passion you and your mates work with... Magnifico!
Awesome track. I love it when I can quite anticipate what sound might be coming and just get lost in the instruments, it makes it so much more interesting.
Oh yeeeeeessssss! Magic intro, i love the drumming, how the guitars turn it around... magic bassline! This track is full of compliment, what can i say more, but that one day i would like to use some real guitars in my songs and not vst ones!!! Magic!
Thanks Mark! Jim is a big fan of Link's music so doing this song was fun to put together and arrange for me and Jim got to go nuts on a favorite song of his. Kept the drums and bass close to the original and Jim did his thang on guitars, he went nuts, ha!
Wow Wayne, I love it mate.
Very nice work I bet you Jimbo had something to do with it.
It is a Favourite strat away Ha Ha.
Please give him my very best mate.
Well done to both of you.
Jamid
Wooo...what an entertaining piece of 70's style rock music. This raw energetic stuff is really punchy. In addition to your own great work you also make splendid collabs like this one...instant fav for sure !
Thanks Leon! Link Wray was a man ahead of his time when it came to distortion and hard rock back in the mid 50's.
Hard to believe there are rnb and hip hop artists in the Rock n Roll HOF before Link Wray, what a shame he isn't in it when i consider him a founding father of r n r. Crazy....
Hey there Mr. Humps. This is so much run listening to. I think I had a sort of psychedelic experience I hope I can come back from. From beginning to the end this was musically captivating and I want more!!!! :-) Love the intro!!
fantastic groovy and yesss, it's hard nearly heavy :-)
your collab with Jimmy are always get a fantastic result as now...
just like a band play live in a festival at around the 70th...
Thanks man, my ears are still bleeding from the session, lol!
I have a new idea going with Jim, just putting it together, a rockabilly cover. He plays by instinct, feel. When we record i ask him to prepare and listen to the song, play along with it but not to learn specific parts. He just lets it rip, i totally love this approach when working with him.
THAT'S SOOOO COOOL!
Outstanding guitar work. Kudos to Jimmy :-)
But you did your part very well: good production, solid bass line with a very consistent sound.
Keep up rocking!
Domenico
There is always some things to adjust after a "final mix" so i am never totally happy with my mixes, you just gotta move on at some point. Lots of effects on the guitars presented a few issues i haven't run into often but after a few mixes things sorta fell in place.
Man you can tell those are some heavy gauge strings from that pick drag! My fingers are blistering up just listening to it! (ha ha) Cool track Wayne ! I love me some good Rockabilly. Epiphone hollow bodies are awesome guitars man. My Dad had an early 60's model Silvertone that he bought from Sears. It was a sweet guitar which I believe was actually manufactured by Danelectro. He could play this kind of stuff. You guys nailed it here bro, and props to you on that bass track. I hope you slicked your hair back and rolled up the t-shirt sleeves daddy-o. Makes me want to fire up the Merc and head to Mel's for a malt and flirt with the teeny boppers !!!
Good ears, yes he does use heavy gauge strings. Great old song but maybe not as old as you might think. Even though songs like Rumble were done as early as '56, this one was done quite a bit later in 1979, sure surprised me.
I learned to play acoustic on a Silvertone. Nice sound, bad action = bloody fingertips but honestly, I wish that borrowed guitar was still in my possession. Yup Danelectro made those for Sears.
Bass track i stuck to the original runs, no need to mess with that, used a 55 Gretch drum set in EZ Drummer, killer kick sound!
Thanks for stopping by, check out Norms Rare Guitars and their "guitar of the day" vids, completely awesome way to learn about guitars, especially the ones that matter.
Very fantastic rock piece you two have created here!
The guitar is obviously a driving force here, but all aspects come together to make this such a potent song. I found your vocal work to be a bit out of the usual that I would expect on your profile, and in a very good way. Soon after they came in, I started thinking about Primus, or more specifically Primus songs which are not as much based around insane fretless classical style wandering bass solos, but more based around rocking out and making a lyrical point. I'm sure the rural twang in your voice added to this impression, but it was also the guitar parts which reminded me a lot of the style of Larry LaLonde.
This political climate is surely an interesting and frustrating state of affairs. The election year and the year since has finished the job of ruining my trust in our current system. I will most likely discontinue voting for federal officials until the electoral college is done away with. I can no longer consider myself a liberal, and that term seems to be more of an insult than anything now. I can barely see the lines between republicans and democrats, nor can I believe that things would be much different if things had turned out different in the election.
It's funny in a way... last month I got elected to our neighborhood association board as the "neighborhood development chair." I was to be a go between from the citizens to the government agencies (city council, parks board, etc...). The position lasted all of two weeks before I was forced to step down. In discussing neighborhood issues with some citizens, and then having several of my responses censored by other board members, I realized all at once that there was no way I could represent these people. They offended me, I offended them, I wanted nothing to do with their plans, and they wanted nothing to do with my suggestions. It all comes down to too many people who are not willing to be part of the solution, but are all too prepared to contribute to the problems they complain about.
Sorry, I guess your song just brought things up, which is a good thing! People need to start thinking and observing more deeply, rather than just letting everything get out of hand.
I really enjoyed the song my friend! Thank you for the DL! Big FAVE!
Thanks Spiv. Yeah, the political climate sure is a little crazy these days.
I know what you mean when you were describing your neighborhood political rise and subsequent fall. I told people not to vote in the last prez election because the candidates were lacking in believe-ability, honesty and integrity. As I am not a hypocrite, I couldn't bring myself to support people I don't believe in. Yet I was told it was wrong not to vote your conscience and to not vote. My conscience is clear and have no regrets not supporting any of the candidates yet I'm sure those people who scolded me are regretting their decision to support either candidate.
Thanks man, appreciate the comment and keep believing in what you believe in.
This is really a nice one. Has this "live" play something that makes songs like this so real. Everything is cool in this song and well played. The mix is nicely made. I enjoyed the listen really. Rock on Wayne.
Getting that live feel is how I want it to sound, my songs happen to have that feel somehow and I like it. Recorded music should sound like a band is performing it, sometimes songs sound flat and too polished when perfection is the goal. And there is nothing perfect about my mixes, ha.
Wayne, this has a nice throw back sound to it, I really like your vocals with this, they go really well with the style of the track. Jim's guitar is awesome, has a great tone and really cool licks to it. Thanks for sharing this and has a great sound that we don't always get here on the loop.
Thanks Kyle! Jim can play the guitar really good and it's fun to watch him play. One hell of a stand up bass player too! I hope to get some tracks of him playing on one of many vintage Kay basses he has.
Thank you! I did all the backups on the track. When Jim comes over he usually plays a lot louder than I do when I record guitar. Along with his attack on the strings, it seems to make a big difference, made me rethink playing, recording and mixing guitars a little different.
We're working on a couple more and I ask him not to work the parts out so they sound rehearsed. He works on them a little to get the feel of the track and as I like to get his first instinctual musical ideas recorded, we open a new audio track and let him rip and keep doing it till we both feel we got something. Every track is real good but different in it's own way. It's fun to work with him and watch him play, humbling, yeah...

This is a wonderful, edgy rendition of Switchblade. This is what I call "dangerous" music. Go on witcha bad self. Bravo to Jimmy Stiles.
You're so right. Link Wray was ahead of his time. That pompador, swagger and talent influenced so many guitarists who are now revered.
My fav is his redition of "Unchain my heart":

Link was bad and cool without even trying. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Of course I'm marking this as a fave.
