Thank you for nice words. Ferryterrys guitars really make this piece a proper 'jazz'. This is a jamming track over the minor blues progression. You can also hear me playing el. piano in the middle of the song. Thanks again for listening! Alex
Thank you Steve! I am sorry for such delay in replying on this one, I do not know if I will be able to manage all my unanswered posts ever. I am really happy you liked this final remix. I am aware that my dnb sound is quite different from the usual lm dnb. That's why people say it is a chilled dnb. They simply need to have lots of compressions and limitings to be able to hear. The way I hear is determined by my former musical education, here you can find my earlier organ recording and get the idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92jrrSfwWNM
At the moment I do not have time for practising the real instruments at all but looperman helped me so much in keeping the creative process going. I am thankful for your openness and simply allowing your stuff being remixed and developed in any unexpected way.
Thanks SJ! Actually I am using the same drum software (EZdrummer), that's why it may sound quite similar. Also I tried to use drum kits fully but of course it is still a track freely inspired by his music.
I'm enjoying the vocal parts much, and the guitar is a nice addition for this sort of songwriting and singing. I think that the piano and horns are a bit punchy for my tastes, like they overpower the other elements. I also realize that this sort of dynamic is very much your style, so don't worry about it. I dig the arrangement, both instrumentally and the vocal parts. Over all quite an enjoyable listen!
Thank you! This is one of my first colla tracks here on looperman. Basically the entire song is based on that repetitive bossa guitar loop. The piano is just a vst JazzBaby, agreed with it's punchy and unnatural sound. I do not know why it sounded like this here, maybe it is just the way I played but I probably couldn't mix it better at a time. Let's say it is a sketch of a song - I can still rework the arrangement.
I am just about getting much more professional pair of microphones (at least) so finally I will be able to record organ and my upright piano properly. The action of that old upright piano is not my favourite and it has a mellow kind of sound but anyway I'll upload some piano tracks here as soon I can.
Thank you again for taking a time for listening to my music and commenting. Glad you enjoyed this one!
:) first i believed it could go into something StaticNomad stuff, then i changed to Mr. Funktastic makes a StaticNomad track, then it goes, for me, into something just groove that sounded very well.
You done a good job here. And i dont think that it sounds like someone else stuff. So you did a real good job.
haha. yes, it is really a track inspired by StaticNomad's music. you're right, it's not a copy nor a parody but just music incorporating maybe some other, new elements for me and also my another try to make a challenge track...
Thanks a lot for listening and your nice comment! alex
Idk why but it reminds me of a scene from an old CSI episode haha. I feel like some of the sounds could use a little more EQ to crisp them up a bit, but overall, I'm liking what I'm hearing.
thanks for the advice. Im using a lot of eq effect but my productions are not commercially-oriented at all, unlike yours. this composition is intentionally way too complex to become ok-commetcially-sounding just by tweaking some eq's. but I'll keep that concept in mind anyway when working on future songs.
the nice thing about this track is that you can listen to it very loud and still enjoy the natural dynamics of the instruments. basically the track presents the way I listen at the moment.
try work in reverse, whatever that means.
btw care to elaborate which sounds 'could use more EQ to crisp them a bit'? Otherwise your comment will sound generic, kind of very annoying looperman every-day comment.
thanks a lot for listening and some nice comments. A.
Hi MrA,
Good track: you have a nice touch for soft atmospheres.
We see some elements of MrNomad here, but you really need to go for the full 17 minutes :-)
I like a lot this "make a track in the style of another" thing: when a great musician like you joins this type of games, very interesting results come out.
We can clearly see the aspects of the "reference" musician's style which resonate best for you and how they get "digested" and "processed" by the musical side of your brain.
Beside the "game" comments: this is a superb rock track.
Liked.
Ciao, Domenico
"Does 'rock' mean only fast and loud?" ha ha, that's pretty much what I thought when reading the comment by SN! I grew up on mellow groovy psychedelic rock like this. Reminds me of some earlier live recordings from the likes of the doors or zeppelin and similar groups. Nothing wrong with that. I really wish you were more open to the possibilities of digital processing, as your songs could be taken to a very different level. I know you are going for specific vibe though, so I won't obsess over it... :) I enjoyed listening!
haha. yes there's some literal quotation here from one of your earlier comments on my other 'rock' track. sorry for not giving you the full credits! I really liked that comment. haha. but seriously I only tried something new here - my 'drumwork' here was inspired by SN but I do not think I was going intentionally for any specific 'classic rock' sound-image (I like that 'sound-image' term). there's some long, quasi-melodic delays and it is about 86 bpm and eb flat minor...
thanks a lot for your nice comment and listening to my music. A.
Thanks for being inspired to do this. It's never too late to make a track in the style of another looper.
Unfortunately I'm at work right now so can't listen to this now but very much look forward to checking it out when I get home.
So, for now, all I have to go on is the waveform. You've put it under 'rock' but I have a strong feeling it's probably quite chilled out, as is almost all of your stuff. The waveform doesn't look like a loud track with banging drums or guitars. More like a chilled out thing with good dynamic range.
Anyway, I won't have to guess when I finally hear it so a better review is coming soon.
I decided to put always a 'rock' label on all of my upcoming looperman tracks anyway. just for fun.
waveform does not make any sound. any sound perception is very relative.
the drums here are much more realistic, with all the harmonics preserved. not so 'compressed'. it makes them sound more powerful.
that may be also the reason for the waveform shape. I love that kind of waveform, it's just pretty.
Well, this is better than I could do with the funktastic samples for sure. The quick changes are a bit hard on my brain, but I hear what you were going for. I started working with those samples, but found them FAR too effects wet for my tastes, and scrapped it. Definitely a jazzy experimental journey to the fusion realm! Fun to hear!
Thank you! Yes, it is just a compilation of loops from the contest but the idea here was to make some jazz-funk fusion journey using also the best instrumental loops from the site. You're right about very quick stylistical changes but if you listen closely you might see that I tried to find some connections. There are some samples playing much longer phrases than 4 bars, it is a real glue for this song.
I agree with the effects on loops, I didn't like them also but in such a short time I had for make this track I didn't notice them even. Just trying to turn the single loops/samples/sounds into a coherent track.
Thanks again for listening!
just found this when i came looking what's up around here and saw joe's funk challenge and then there this tune from you.
the first part reminded me of an old synthesizer sampler my dad used to listen to a lot, the only thing i remember was on there is chariots of fire from vangelis, but seems like he was just a big fat plagiarist. it reminded me of something else though, but i can't remember neither a track nor an artist name.
considering you used given loops you put together a hell of a progressive journey combining many influences. good ears my friend. you turned it into an interesting and enjoyable prog hotpot. also nice experimental touch at times but never going overboard. ending with the flute again is also a good idea and rounds it up well, plus the chord progressions there were excellent for my taste.
Wow - really interesting - like how you've varied the tempos on the mrfunktastic loops - love the sax and flute treatments. Good fusion of riffs to provide a overall landscape. Well done.
-clindsay
Love the Guitars and the Mix, not to sure about the Vocal though
they are in the wrong key...Different is good but wrong is not... :)
Keyboards really set the tone and moves this, in a very cool way...
Second time around listening, you don't even need that voice in
there it fills a space that Tranquility of the Harmonics would do wonders with...
Another small synth run or some extra bells moving across the spectrum...
I think it takes away from the true value of the track and that's
a shame...At lest till you find something better...
thank you. I mostly agree with what you're saying. These are 2 separated tracks - first one has very classic and simple instrumentation: lead guitar, Rhodes bass, main Rhodes and drums. Second one is much more experimental, I couldn't find vocals that will fit better in here, at some point they are sounding ok for me. Just some experimental track of mine. The guitar loop I used was too short so I started throwing more layers to keep it interesting. Also my laptop crashed and I ran out of memory when doing this one so I couldn't add the synth or epiano solo...
Thanks for listening to my music and some interesting thoughts! Alex
This has a really nice chill vibe to it. Not sure what the gap of silence was but then it picks back up where it left off. Pleasant sounding instruments. Vocals add a nice touch too.
Thank you! These are basically 2 different pieces I decided to join together as they were made out of the same guitar loop. I ran out of the upload space here - that's my way to put more work here.
Thanks again for some nice comment, Alex
I would say, all is audio visible and the rest is a pack of cool loops and samples. And all is mixed very "wild". Fusion isnt my genre but the overall sound is realy good.
You wrote that it is just a compilation, but it realy only use the Funktastic loops for something diffrent. And i think thats a cool way of work witht them.
I enjoyed the first minute and fifteen seconds and now it's gone into something a bit deeper and funky sounding. nice touch with the vocals over the top of the guitars and i dig the drum section as well, there's some really interesting snare work going on there.
You two have done a good job with this and it was a pleasure to drop by and listen.

Hello friend!
Oh what a potpourri from 60s and 70s this is!
I haven't been paying attention in the forums lately but I saw the JoeFunktastic remix competion just now - is that what this is?
I LOVE that flute or what ever it's called! Great compilation.
Cheers! / SJ :D

'do nothing' is a refference to 'non-duality' stuff I was exploring for almost 2 years. something like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ6cdIaUZCA
I can't play guitars anyway. Does 'rock' mean only fast and loud? lol
