Can't find much wrong with this wonderful track Alex! I just came inside from working on my suntan, I'm pretty relaxed at this point and this song hit the spot perfectly. Great percussion, sweet vibes and a peaceful, easy feeling. Nice job putting this together!
Alex, it is always a masters class in composition when I drop by your corner of the world. What a great song you have arranged here. Superb jazz/fusion feel. I think that is probably you doing that wonderful work on the keys. Stellar effort.
There is nothing to critique here. Just a beautiful song to enjoy with my coffee this morning. Thanks as always for the inspiration and pure enjoyment that you provide with your music. I hope all is well.
This track is based on the idea that was sent to me by ferryterry earlier, it is actually my 2nd take on this material. I reharmonized it and found vocals that fit as well as other sounds. I had to cut vocal to make it fit in here - the title is from original lyrics (I removed that verse). Yes indeed, I played all keys in here (and violins) - as always.
Thank you for listening to this song and your words, really glad I could provide you some enjoyable moments.
Got it to play this time Alex...glad I did...I think this is one of your best...really nice smooooth R&B flavour ...the music mix is really well done...the right panned vocal is not really a big distraction as it only involves a small part of the mix....do not worry too much about the technical things (they will come with experience)...but there should be a pan control on each of your tracks and it is just a matter of moving the one with the vocal on it to the centre position (or close).....well done....this is a very good piece of music.....Ed
Thank you again Ed. Actually I have to say that I adjusted very carefully the panning of each separated track in here, I always pay much attention to the placement of instruments in the mix. No difference this time, I decided to leave the vocals as they are though. For me they sound ok like this. Also my tracks are not mastered to the modern standards as I do not make commercial music at all. Therefore the only thing to care about is the clarity of the arrangement and final mix. But thanks for pointing all that anyway and some nice words. Basically this is only a sketch based on the short guitar idea sent to me by ferryterry but we want to make another version soon. So I won't be reworking this version here anymore.
Thanks again for reviewing my track - it is much appreciated. Best to you, Alex
Everything is right with this song, except my only gripe ever with Lech's vox is that it's always panned to the right, could you center him in the mix!. Otherwise a lovely cocktail song (Campari & Soda with a clementine slice...yum)
Steve
Thank you Steve. So basically I am here only to make corresponding sounds and stick to the original as much as possible lol. Everything is right with me, no worries. Thank you again for the friendly comment!
I greet you from my world, Alex
ps you can always adjust the cables to get the different panning. I never listen on headphones, it sounds abstract to me. So you ultimately buy this one, or not ? I do not believe in panning because I already transgressed it.
Wow! Awesome stuff. The laid back take your time vibe is too cool. Reminds me of being back in the 70's when people took their time, relaxed, enjoyed music and each other! Excellent job on all fronts! This track shows there was a lot of thought and work put in to it. Well done!
I'm gonna go mix a Martini now because I feel I need too out of respect. Like a vacant jazz party with pretty people. I love the ambient touches they make this track brilliant Alex. The vocals are sublimely placed in a reverb tank. It's like a Belladronic overdose taking place in 1972 that I'm listening too right before the Orgy is supposed to begin.
Steve
Thank you Steve for such a friendly review! Basically this piece started as a short sketch/idea that was sent to me by ferryterry few days ago, quite simple Aminor - D7 chord progression. Initially wanted to make a classic simple arrangement adding only acoustic piano but I ended up with very 'fused' sound. It's really good to hear that it is fully listenable because I was not sure about it at first - there's many elements in there at some point and they are different stylistically. I really liked that funky guitars from Megapaul, he's definitely one of the best guitar players on this site. Motown bassline is from Tumbleweed and other funky bassline from djole94hns. The piano in the background and main solo piano is played by me. Overall a true mishmash of very different sounds - really happy you enjoyed it! Thank you again for the nice words. Alex
Hey Alex.
I just wanted to tell you that i have almost all my midi/asio/usb driver/zoom soundcard/win8.1/microphone/onboard sound/mixer/daw settings AND ground problens reduced to zero.
If i was good in playing AND useing knobs with the mouse at the same time, i could do that now without any latency at all.
But you are right, when you said that equipment isnt all. I know people who have realy realy realy realy good stuff and i can“t enjoy any of there music at all and others only use an old children guitar and make unbelievebel music ......
Thanks for your help offering, dont needed it jet but maybe someday .....
Ahh I enjoyed this one for the fun it brought. I agree with Spiv in that it's more trip-hop or garage than chill, but still doesn't take away from my enjoyment.
Steve
Yes, now I see it's much more trippy and quirky than actual mainstream 'chillout'. Just tried to 'harmonize' the acapella but it was probably too short so I started loading more loops and usied much of sound filtering and like.
Overall it came out quite experimental but I am really happy you enjoyed listening to this unusual piece. Thanks! Alex
I like the randomness of the sounds and arrangement on this song! I don't know if I'd want to interact to closely with someone who used a song like this to "chill out." They might need to cut down on hard drugs! The epiano is groovy as usual though. The mix has a good sound to it, and is pretty dynamic but also loud enough for me to enjoy at a normal volume setting. Once the vocals come in, I guess it does get more like a chill vibe, so ignore my previous comment... ha ha. You have a unique musical vision that I appreciate. The big influences you list on your profile are definitely not my kind of fusion preferences, but you take those influences and give them new life. I'm getting "trip hop" from this a bit, and I usually like that kind of vibe. I've been having fun listening through your catalog! Hope you are well!
Thank you again! Firstly you made me really rethink the 'chillout' label here, now listening to it I realize it's truly much more trippy than that. Basically it's a bit weird compilation of different influences: lm loops, other loops, lm acapellas and my playing. I made 'quirky' parts slicing audio and simply played it from the keyboard - the results are unique and simply different each time (random!), I like that. Just very experimental track of mine but I am really happy you liked the listening experience I created. I want to go even more into an electronic experimental music some day but must wait until I get much better equipment.
Thank you for your continuous support and kind words! Alex
I wished my equipment would be at least so good, that i could play AND listen to the sound at the same time :) ..... I have so big latenz problems here, that i MUST play in midi piano and then use the vst :) ......
This track sounds so cool and in a way like free playing all the time. You use this vst very well and you made a few funny sounds with it. I like that :)
Overall it is a cool, calm and realxing number with nice things in the background.
It is not the matter of the quality of equipment at all - I am using only and old laptop and simple midi keyboard. Any sophisticated and costly equipment.
I figured out from your profile that you're using Magix MM. This might be useful:
www.magix.info/uk/how-to-solve-latency-problem.online-training.130215.html click the PDF to download.
Still I do not know what is the actual problem but I hope some of this will help.
I spent on this track over 4 hours (in 2 sessions), the reason why it sounds good is that I am actually a trained keyboard player and am familiar with the acoustic instruments. MrRay22 is an emulation of 70's electric pianos as Fender Rhodes, the Wurlitzer EP and the Yamaha DX7 FM. So basically I tried to play the plugin with appropriate keyboard touch as if it was a real instrument. I had to quantize many notes (as always). Also I used a lot of EQ effect and some Stereo Enhancer to get nice tone of the recording. I had some serious problems with laptop stability and with the plugin itself so this was not so easy to make eventhough it sounded easy at the end.
Good luck and please write me more detailed message if you still will have problems with midi.
great stuff, it's extremely stylish and funky in a minimalistic way. love that you used a rhodes as the one vst, you made elements that work well together and i can completely relate to the tune.
that chick corea one is out of this world, he continues to be a great source of inspiration for me as well.
Hey friend! That is pretty impressive! I looked up the MrRay thing, and was surprised that it was like a rhodes emulator... because it made some surprising sounds in this track! To be honest it didn't sound like 14 channels at all, which I think is a good thing. Very cohesive and enjoyable listening experience!
Thank you! I have been using MrRay when creating epiano on my tracks for quite a long time. I had to layer it again and again to get the satisfying results. No difference this time. It's not sample-based but still very great plugin. Also the chord progression and my playing are quite simple here - that may be the reason for seeking interesting 'soundscape' instead. I want post some songs that are entirely live played (in opposite to 'produced') soon.
I just discovered this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clqR9Qi_AAU and am listening a lot to this. That was also my main inspiration on this track.
Many thanks for your nice words! Alex
