awesome stuff man, i am shaking my ass off here to this funkiness. it has some great unpredictable elements in here, i like that a lot. yeah this is fresh and also i feel like your sounds and mixes are improving a lot, that is really sweet alex and makes me happy!!!!!!! :)))
listen to this urges me to sit at my keyboard and load some oldschool keys patch and it never disappoints in regards to the fun levels that can be reached just by playing along *FUNKEH* stuff exactly like this. this is a requirement in my funk playlist, great work!

Thank you so much Joe!

Megapaul's guitars are truly great indeed!

It's not only an usual loop combination as it contains a huge amount of my hard keyb. work. I intend to make more music like this in the future.

I am really happy you liked this one!

Thank you again,

Hey Alex, this is a cool rock track. I played bass with a drummer for a short time who played like the drum track you put together. He, like the track, was a solid rock drummer that could always throw a some kind of fill or change making the song so much more interesting. He never overplayed and it always fit the song. I like the drums here, they are interesting all the way through. Snappy snare too!

After hearing the intro I wasn't sure where the song would be heading. The theremin was a cool choice, not every day you hear that in a song. Real ones are reasonably priced actually. ha All the guitars and synths you used blend real well, plenty of space in the song but boy, there are a lot of things happening.

Well done to you and megapaul on the guitars, not sure who did what where but all of them were placed to mix well. You can do so much in the rock category, to me one of the most versatile genres. Always a pleasure Alex!

Thank you Wayne!

Firstly I am happy you liked the drumming. It's from EZ of course and it is some fine funk performance with lots of cool ghost/dead notes.
I think it fits perfectly Megapauls style which is extremly funky, here is the list of loops I used:

Pills and Potatos:
http://www.looperman.com/loops/detail/80272/pills-and-potatos-85bpm-a-by-megapaul-free-85bpm-weird-electric-guitar-loop

Old Grapefruit:
http://www.looperman.com/loops/detail/72493/old-grapefruit-90bpm-a-guitar-solo-by-megapaul-free-90bpm-funk-electric-guitar-loop

Now I use DT Swiss:
http://www.looperman.com/loops/detail/72473/now-i-use-dt-swiss-65bpm-e-by-megapaul-free-65bpm-blues-electric-guitar-loop

Remember The Isolating Shoes D Solo:
http://www.looperman.com/loops/detail/68335/remember-the-isolating-shoes-90bpm-d-main-by-megapaul-free-90bpm-pop-electric-guitar-loop

Orange Pudel Solo:
http://www.looperman.com/loops/detail/61318/orange-pudel-solo-guitar-85bpm-by-megapaul-free-85bpm-reggae-electric-guitar-loop

Some of them are played much faster though (the actual tempo is 110bpm). All the rest is me playing Roland synth.

I listened to all (over 200) Megapaul's loops and am so impressed of the quality of his guitar work.
For sure I will try do more in a rock area as I only used only a few of his loops here (which I downloaded earlier). I do not play guitars of course so I will always need someone to make them for me if the genre is anywhere close to rock. I guess this one is still more a funk-rock or simply fusion.

Thank you again for some nice words. Always appreciated!

Best to you, Alex

This super extremely cool! Your keys are spectacular as always, and megapaul's guitar work sounds great in this setting. The drum and bass work is some really nice funky fusion stuff that I can totally groove to! This one is a bit more structured when compared to some of your work, and I enjoy that (being a math nerd and all). I love how with many of your song, I think how it would be great with a talented vocalist, and then half a minute later I'm not missing vocals at all, and can think of it as an excellent instrumental. The instruments do kind of sing in this, so it's a winner. Great jam! Fave!

promenade2239 replied 10th May 2015 - 10 years ago
Hi,

I am happy you had a chance to listen to this as it might be one of my better works so far, who knows... haha. Definitely more a very proper funky-rock (fusion?) this time haha...
Firstly it's probably because of the use of new equipment - Roland Juno Di for electric piano, electric piano bass, clavinet, background Teremin- like sounds... I was finally able to play some guitar as well as Roland has some very good 'crunchy' and different 'overdriven' guitar sounds. Of course I can't play it that good as Megapaul - it will always sound very artificial from the keys but anyway I tried to create very corresponding guitar 'soundscape' to the one from his loop http://www.looperman.com/loops/detail/80272/pills-and-potatos-85bpm-a-by-megapaul-free-85bpm-weird-electric-guitar-loop (which is introduced at the beginning of this track) as possible. So I play the guitar in here (from around 1:16) haha. And yes, I think I will gradually be able to create much better structured compositions in opposite to my usual synth jams haha. As for the math matters I must say that I am now becoming aware of this as well (3+3+2, 3+2+3, 2+3+3 is 8, it was my rhythmic concept for the bassline haha - with some variations, as well as playing in major tenths).
It's much easier to write the pieces now, I do not need to struggle so much with midi latency and other plugin issues. It feels more natural - it's a real instrument anyway....

Again many thanks for nice words and adding this one to your favourites!
Glad I could provide some enjoyable moments for you.

I see I`m late catching up with this one Alex...(I`m late for a lot of things lately)...really appreciate the expression and subtlety you get into those Rhodes notes (I think that is difficult to do on an electric piano)...awesome flute lines here...very intricate...There is someting magical about letting the instruments create their own rhythm without the assistance of drums/percussion...it seems to help the music just flow more naturally (I haven`t yet accomplished that)..and without the drums you seem to get a lot more of the dynamic range of everything else...very thoughtfully composed (I admire your patience)..and skillfully played....I must fav this one as it is just so unique, and there is something special about the pictures it brings to ones mind...great track.....Ed
promenade2239
promenade2239 replied 10th May 2015 - 10 years ago
Thank you a lot Ed! Firstly I much appreciate your kind words on the production itself: Yes! There is some electic Rhodes in here (from Roland synth) that I used to support the harmonic progression and to fill up the space at some places throughout this track.
I must say that I started only with drums this time ... When I recorded the solo using some nice flute-like lead I realized that this drum loop I was using takes too much place in the mix so finally I decided to remove it completely. That allowed me to add some more of pads and atmospheres and build much subtle/ambient-like composition...
As for the electric Rhodes I do not have any original one of course but I am very familiar with the mechanics of the real acoustic piano and action of church organ (I practiced also harpsichord for some time). The Roland Juno Di has very light action which in my opinion gives the possibility to play easier but from the other hand that's still just an emulation of the classic electric piano (which is basically an electro - acoustic instrument)... Still it sounds quite cool and keeping that original classic sound in mind I can record easier and faster now, not need to struggle with midi latency signal delay and adjusting midi notes anymore!
Maybe I will get the real Rhodes some day as well as I will probably continue progressively my current making-music in the future!

Thank you again for the time and giving me some great feedback! I really appreciate that.

Best to you, Alex

Greetings.

More of your calm, peaceful jazz fusion chillout stuff, this time with no drums, as you've done before a few times.

0:12-0:14 lovely vocal type of sound. Definitely worth repeating that so you do.

That sound really helps add a floating feel to the whole thing.

0:39 I like the sound of those low notes. That instrument has a great timbre. I actually prefer those notes and playing to the main, busy lead.

1:50 shimmering sounds that fade in from time to time are a good type of atmospheric noise.

4:20 crazy high lead sound but not too piercing or weird.

I'd prefer this kind of thing actually without most of the lead work and with a good fat beat. But then that's more the kind of music I'm into rather than spacious ambient.

I still appreciate it for what it is.

promenade2239 replied 7th May 2015 - 10 years ago
Hi.

You really forced me to go and check again all the different parts of this piece, it was a bit challenging this time as I normally do not really think in terms of the sections measured in seconds or bars when listening to my own music.

Firstly the 'jazz' label is way too much, but thanks! I did piano stuff earlier that introduced some amount of much better jazz feel but still I can't say I am really a proper jazz musician. In my view jazz is a kind of very advanced territory, both technically and musically. I am aware of the classic jazz sound and jazz styles but the actual transforming it into a fluently spoken language will require lot of work. Anyway you're definitely right: that's my preffered territory (beside the clasiccal stuff)!

All sounds are from the Roland synth.
0:12 - 0:14 - yes, I tried many presets and found some of them really cool, just like this nice vocal pad. All this was played from keyboard - I simply started with reggae drums on this one. Then recorded pads and backgrounds, finally the synth solo but still with drums so I could keep the time and a proper structure.

The synth has very powerful editor for creating the sound entirely from scratch but I will probably need more time to become more familiar with the process and all this stuff... It was quite fast-made track!

So I placed this floating pad here and there over the timline (I guess it might be very similar to what you do on your tracks at some point) and harmonized it with the low electric piano quasi bassline in descending fourths - a kind of an ostinato line. So I picked up one of epiano sound which was available (it's played 2 octave lower). It is a real foundation of the track. Synth solo presents just a kind of an abstract ornament thing here as I do not use any fixed and fully organized formula for improvisation (beside keeping time along the drums and following some scales, mostly very chaotically). Pads are only a nice background - it's all played in A minor.

So the low notes are just a E-piano sound from Roland synth (I could provide the sounds like this for you so you can freely use them if you want btw).

Yes, the 1:50 thing is just an another interesting pad I found when experimenting inside the synth sound bank.

4:20 it is a kind of a glide effect I guess (that's a monophonic type of lead).

Thank you so much for some great comments and pointing details!

Wow, I'm impressed with this. I love the intro, and the panning "salt-shaker" thingies are so cool :P Sounds almost mystical :p That lead synth sounds almost like an electric guitar haha. It is definitely an abstract piece, and even though it's not what I listen to everyday, I still am attracted to its unique beauty. Can't say why haha.

Thank you Epic!

Firstly all sounds are from my new Roland synth, some of the presets are really cool with all the panning and cool-sounding candy on it. The lead is actually a flute-like synth lead, not really a guitar lead but I manipulated a lot of pitch bending so it may give some interesting guitar-like sound at some places indeed.

Yes, probably this is not not something you can hear on the radio haha. Happy you liked my creation for what it is!

hey! Thanks a lot for listening to this one and friendly words. It's much appreciated!
This is a quite specific region I live - eastern Poland. You might even hear very characteristic storks in the background haha (and tractors working lol).
Anyway these new Rode mics are truly great - I intend to record the church organ this week as we are just about finishing our current organ restoration project (the instrument has to be properly tuned first - that's the final stage). I even constructed special tripod (in a rough version) to place the mics about 6m high to capture the organ sound properly. For now I will be experimenting with all this only for the purpose of documentation of the organ sound (as this is an old, historical object).

I will need more time to record properly my old upright piano (I own also several old harmoniums but they are partly playable for now) using Rode mics as they come also with changable directional capsules. Soon or later I will post more live recordings and works like this one!

But now it's almost 5PM in here and I just arrived home...

Thank you again for some good words and for the fave!

Best to you,
Alex

super cool my friend. Loved the solo's. Perfect playing of the keys. The subtle jazz chords allow you to go crazy on the keys. It's nice to show off now & then how well you play the keys to all the others who just mix loops. Very Mystical journey and a lesson in soloing using scales. I like the underwater feeling at the end. great job Alex!

I want to be able to play keys in a more organized way some day - lot of work ahead! The new synth is very easy to play but there's also still so much of new regions to explore for me regading to synths and electronic synthesis in general. The 'underwater feel' at the end was achieved by manipulating the cutoff/resonance filtering on the main synth lead.

Thank you for some great inspiration on synths!

This is more Abstract then Fusion, like a painting where dabs of pain
are thrown all over the canvas, creating a colour scheme of different
patterns...
Music is the same, you are playing a lot of scales over top of a watery
sound scape, not unlike throwing notes all over the harmonic Canvas
it has it's merits, in the harmonic scheme of things...
But over all it's intent "Abstract" is just that, mostly outside the main stream only because they tend play the same scales over and over again this is when, most change the Song or the Radio Station... :)

But I do like the Mix...

Peace...TG.

promenade2239 replied 3rd May 2015 - 10 years ago
thank you a lot soundhound for some nice words.

Yes, this fusion label is quite confusing here. Basically the 'fusion' term would be much proper whith more stylistic elements of rock or funk, also jazz. So I changed it for chillout in here.

Thanks for the interesting scale comment - basically it is A minor pentatonic but coloured with elements of aeolian and phrygian. There's also a blues scale and some of the passages were simply played outside. I can't say that I am playing any real melodies here - I would rather label these as 'ornaments' haha. Yes, many of them are abstract-sounding. Roland Juno Di has very light keys, it is even too easy to play. So it seemed quite natural to play like this but still I will need to work more on proper pitch bending technique.

Just an experimental track of mine but really glad you liked it. Thanks again for your nice comment!

Yes, this new hardware synth sounds quite different (and much better) from the plugins I was using earlier.

I played all layers from the keyboard (with very minimal processing added) mostly using synth prestets. It offeres also a great sound editor and probably almost endless possibilities for creative sound design but I will need more time to explore this feature seriously.

Happy you liked this one - thanks a lot for some good words.

hey,

thank you for listening to the complete creation.

This is a synth jam track meaning that I played the solo line in a real time... I do not expect anyone to like it in it's entirety as it is basically a quite chaotic improvisation.

I appreciate your comment therefore even more and the fact that you liked it from 2:59. All sounds are from Roland Juno Di - I used only the presets this time as it is a new hardware for me.

It has an excellent sound editor so I can design the sound entirely from scratch.

To get the idea I suggest you to experiment with Synth1 http://www.geocities.jp/daichi1969/softsynth/

hey Ocean,

I am sorry for long delay in replying on this one!

I created that slow-motion effect by appliying a long reverb to the recording (in a real time) - it gave that additional depth to all these very common late afternoon sounds from here.

I really wanted to capture that very natural ambiance but for some reason there was a great amount of people driving their cars at that particular moment.

Thank you for reviewing this one.
