I almost expect to hear some old crackly recording of some random movie audio from way-back-when. Kinda done in the stylings of the Afro Samurai sndtrk. And other parts of this song leave me expecting ambient environmental sounds- Such as the warning beep of a construction vehicle backing up (heck, the entire site now that I think about it... diesel engines, earth moving, etc.). Possibly paired with some kinda vocals done in a computer voice way (like the one on the Enterprise from TNG or Hal from 2001- What are you doing Dave? Haha). Cool vibes here mate. Cheers!
wow, always great reviews Donnie, your additional creative points are always great! Thanks for checking it out. I don't get a chance to log on too often but I gotta check out some of your new stuff since I last stopped by. Cheers!
The random:
The name of this track looks familiar (dunno why). Did you have it up before? Nevermind, I'm prolly thinkin of the Josie & the Pussycats sndtrk.
The good:
Coolness with the mellow pianos paired with the upbeat drums. Those synth leads were pretty choice too.
The bad & suggestive:
At the moment I can't think of anything off the top of my head. Hmm, maybe this'd sound cooler if ya added some famous old speech to it (dunno why, but I keep thinkin of JFKs voice here). Anyways, nicely done mate. Lates!
The random:
This takes me back to a show I was once at where the mosh pit caused a fight to break out with this group of fat chicks who decided to stand too close to the pit's outer edge. BOOM, someone was sent flying into them and they all freaked out (the bouncers had to escort them out after it was broken up).
The good:
This has a good, lean rockish edge to it. I'm just uber glad you didn't add vocals to this because often times I think it's the gothish singing that kills most industrial. There's a very definitive driving vibe to this. As if it was meant to accompany some grand fight or shoot out sequence in a film.
The bad & suggestions:
The only thing that I'm left thinkin with this is that you're levels might be comin off a bit too hot (dunno, could just be my speakers though). It just makes me think that if I were to watch the way this metered on the mixer the sound would be coming dangerously close to the red, ya know? I'd say go back and open the mixer for this arrangement and drop down all the channel's volume level by 1 or 2 and see if that helps to bring you closer to green, kna mean? Later on!
Dude thanks for the awesome review and thoughts, much appreciated, all your comments and critiques are spot on... I really have a hard time with my levels, most of my stuff comes out pretty hot on the ol meter... I keep trying new things to hopefully deal with some of that. Again, thanks for the comments man!
The random:
The last time I had to say "I'm sorry" was beacause I was sitting in class one day during a critique and something someone said made me start laughing uncontrollably (the teacher said 'That's a cream pot.' referring to a cream/milk jug and I suddenly thought- Odd, that's what I use to call my ex-girlfriend.)
The good:
Sounds like an interesting mix of early Electro, popish R&B, and breakish Techno. I enjoy the effects treatment you gave Marj's pella. They help to punch them out a bit more than normal and give the song an interesting dynamic. The drums and intro pads work well for introducing the nature of the song.
The bad & suggestions:
The instrument solo part starting @ around 2:10 sounds like it's a bit too pronounced (maybe fade it in more or reduce the synth's volume level a tad so they don't conflict with the vocals later).
Sounds like something out of the album Tweekend. The way its got a bunch of effects/acid sounds and some guitar riffs. nice style. This track never gets boring because of the vast variety of sounds you used.Must be like 100 different samples in it.That synth at 2:43 sounds very familiar to me. Ive heard it on a hiphop song on the game NBA 2K9. The part that impressed me the most about this track was the beats. Really Sweet Track
Thanks for the review, yeah I poured a lot of samples into this, sometimes when I listen to it I almost feel like I layered too much. The synth line you referring to is I think a loop that came with my Mac, could be a sony loop but wouldn't surprise me if you heard it somewhere else, haha - Dealing with a lot of loop packs I have noticed loops like that in other peoples stuff. I've even recognized some Mac loops in TV shows - haha crazy.
what a cool track, great driving beat, with excellent choice of synths, love the brass, very nice indeed, you can hear the diff styles melded together, very nice arrangement here, whole package very good, no faults at all, great work man.Peace....Fav'd...
Thanks for taking the time to check out a couple of my tracks, much appreciated...and thank you for the kind words man. Glad you liked it, this is one of my favorites, I was really happy with it.
man this is so brilliant, so love it, got me right from the start, very talented, your description is spot on, it does make you feel like you are going off somewhere far away, I could see this as an opener for a starwars pix, great work mate...Peace...
Dunno if it's just my speakers, but it sounds like this is a little muddy on the low end (when I turn them up real loud). I'm thinkin it's because of the way the bass and kick drum interact. And there's alotta clipping going on when I max out the volume. Just FYI if ya ever go to mess with this again.
Ooh, and there's a part @ around 4:10 that sounded so wicked (the screechy synth that sounds 3 times). I wish you had used it more on here. And the lil thing ya did at the outro was keen.
I dunno much about JR back in their early days, because that was in the days before I started collecting electronic stuff. Though I will say that it definitely has a super 90s vibe to it. Though for some odd reason it reminds me of that electro act that was in the club scene in the film XXX (the synth mixed with the vocals perhaps). While the bass on this takes me back to some classic anime I saw (maybe Akira, not sure though). Anyways, cool stuff mate. Later on!
haha, yes I will admit this one came out really muddy and clips a lot, I played around when I mixed it but then it lost all it's power, I had no idea what to do, I think I just had to many things at once, haha- at that point I kinda moved on to something else. Thanks for the review
I think it's those guitar licks (or the effects placed on them in the beginning), but they sound super familiar. And not familiar like another song on here, but from an album or mix set from a professional act. I also recognize that one synth loop, but I think it's from one of the programs I (we) own (or from other stuff I've heard on here before, not 100% at the mo).
Anyways, I agree with Rei, that was quite a ride. Kinda reminds me of that scene in the movie Bean when Rowan's character super modifies the controls on the simulator-coaster to run at 10x speed (mixed with bits of galactic dogfighting). This was a pretty powerful mix mate. Later on!
Yo Donny, thanks for the review, I used a lot of Sony and Mac loops back then, so I'm sure there is a loop or two you have heard. Rei is a great guitarist and def miss his contributions to this site.
cool, however instead of end credits...i think this would sound perfect for a bomb difusal scence..sweat dripping from jason stathams chin as the timer counts down...sweet
great job

Glad you reviewed my track because it introduced me to your stuff. I love the darkness running through the tracks in general. Cross between Autechre and plastikman, are you sure you don't live in some scandinavian hut during the winter months!
great melodies m8 but i know what your saying about the speakers.. this track should bump my man...try to double up on your beats...at least the kick..maybe that will bring the bump in, but anyhow great track
Yeah double up is a good way but sometimes that will send it up into the hot peak zone, it's a science to mix well, something I'm still learning, haha. Thanks for the review man!
Industrial is one of my favorites. I really like this track. Definitly should be in a video game, just when you deploy a mini gun, or flying as low and as fast as possible...
