Description : Hey loopermen and women, this is my entry in progress for a remix competition. Id love some feedback if you got the time, this is my third track and I still am not sure how to fully use effects and any suggestions are more than welcome. I have always loved metal and trap, so I kinda fused the two. Thanks for listening! This competition was found on remixcomps.com. Also, I don't think this is quite trap, does anyone know what this genre would be called? I don't think its trapstep or drumstep, Im not sure what to classify it under in soundcloud.

This is really good! - great sounds and rhythm offsets. Wondering if it would work better to bring in the verse at 1:36 after the intro. This very catchy and pulls you in in a more conventional way. This track has several twists and turns that are mostly interesting but not as coherent as it could be. Very well done - hope you win!

thanks clindsay, good suggestion with the verse, Ill try doing that after breakfast! Right now my tracks arent very coherent, probably due to how I create tracks, kinda piece by piece without imagining the larger picture. Hopefully it will become more coherent as I get better at producing and mixing!
Thanks for listening

Pretty good. it's very original sounding I can definitely tell you that. It's not like any other trap, that's for sure.
I think some synths in here sound a bit too bright for me, like the first breakdown, I think there could be a nice echo-y synth playing over everything. That could definitely complete a really awesome drop! Overall, I give this a 6/10, unless you can make a real awesome drop, than it's 8/10!

I love this so much, where did you get the vocal and the guitar from?

Gnasty replied 26th May 2015 - 11 years ago
Thanks man, they are both downloaded from the remix contest at remixcomps.com, most of the samples are from there, some I made my own

Cool, thanks for the genre suggestion. I see how his music is different and mine isnt quite as dark, but I was planning on making similar music once I get better as a producer and get some real software, i love his music!

I'm no expert on the subject, but compression levels the sounds, quiets the louder ones by squashing them and boosts the quieter ones. That's how you get a brickwall of sound. I use it very sparingly because I like to maintain the dynamic range through the track. That's the volume level from the softest to loudest notes. There's no set formula for mixing, just what sounds good to you. EQ is simply a more precise fader control for adjusting the volumes of frequencies. I think if you back off on the compressor, turn down the volumes of the individual tracks so they don't clip, that'll show in you meter as red, going over 0db, that will fix the distortion you hear. Cool track :p Keep experimenting, that's how we all learn :D

I havent used any compression, but I also have a somewhat basic DAW so it might do it automatically. Ill try changing the track levels, thanks for the advice!

snare louder than kick as it normal have alot of bass. but you could try play around with each sound if you still working on this or if you only have this you should make a new projkt and then use master and the track it self to control the sound, by adding reverb and other sound effect. mostly music is by listen, so i cant say much as i dont have the track.

you need to control the volume a bit , but great Work.

Thanks a lot man! Do you have any basic tips on volume control? I know that instrument volume levels need to be adjusted but should bass be louder? or kick louder than snare?

I experience the same kind of thing.
I do everything on headphones.
I then put on a disc and go for a late night drive and listen to it in the car .... it sounds nothing like I expected but it has given me valuable information to go home with.
All the different instruments sounds tracks cannot ever all be at the same volume or it sounds pooh.
It's a brash jangle or a muted mess.
The volumes and the pan (position) should vary throughout the track never staying the same. Sometimes subtley sometimes not so.
Get me sounding like the expert ... I'm not I just do this stuff as my number oner one hobby.
It's a big learning curve for sure.
I'm playing about with loops and VST'S mostly.

Thanks a bunch for the explanation, I am pretty clueless still as far as mastering tracks goes, ill do some research online to learn more about balancing tracks. Thanks again!

It might be me because ... this is the second track I've had a listen to in the last fifteen minutes and the volume seems all wrong.
The levels know what I mean?
It could well be me though.

Gnasty replied 19th May 2015 - 11 years ago
i kinda know what you mean, it sounds a lot different in my car than in my headphones even though my car has a subwoofer. I am really new to producing and I have heard about mismatched levels before but i dont quite know what it means or how to fix it. Is anything in particular too high or too low? Thanks for the comment by the way, i appreciate it

Hey what's up bro...trap is really not my thing but I gotta say you have a lot of interesting elements going on here.I would find some vocals to go with the track and just throw them in the mix to make sure you have some space for then to sit.Good job on the track

Gnasty replied 18th May 2015 - 11 years ago
Thanks for listening bro and I really appreciate the feedback! You're right, some more vocals would help, and there are actually some verses from the original song that I haven't used yet, I'll throw them in somewhere. Any suggestions on what part? do you think I should extend the song, making a new section for the new vocals or should i put them in an existing space?

Description : Draft from my old defunct laptop. Lost some plugins and not sure I'll come back to it. The wee vocal sections were never added to and the mix probably needed more work too. But thought I'd post it for a bit anyway, if people like it maybe try to finish it. Pseudoble played some synth. Music made by humans.
