on Babylon Crackers - Roll and Tumble by n0mad23
I'm glad you shared this one. It captured the essence of the early days of the blues.

I'm not sure where music would be today had guys like Robert Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Leadbelly, Charlie Patton, and many other greats, decided to do something else for a living.

This is a phenomenal listen. I just hope the folks on Looperman can appreciate how good this really is.

Well done Sean. Again, I'm glad you put this one up. It is special.

Pearls before swine, aye? Yeah, the old blues pioneers left a legacy, didn't they? In my own investigations, the real surprise is the hidden histories - for example, there's a lot of incidental evidence that what the Blues developed out of was both W. African and Celtic music in the Caribbean (Cromwell sold Irish women into slavery there). Listening closely, I think the traces of both can still be heard. Really glad you like this one, and took the time to review it. Thanks!

on Saying Goodbye (Dirty guts remix) by fixxxer
I love the "live" feel of this one, sounds almost like it was recorded in an arena. You also used probably one of my favorite chord progressions.

I think she would love this one.

If is isn't cranked to 11, you aren't trying hard enough :)

Great work.

on Music man ft Tacatta 4 track challenge by Kikajon
I think ZZ Top proved a long time ago that you don't need some big band to pull off great rock and roll. This track proves that point once again. Outstanding track. It has all of the essentials, great bass, great guitar, great vox, great drums, and a great mix.

Wonderful effort.

Thanks Bear, I'm glad you like it. The tune just came to me and Jim was exited and came up with the words and vocals in a blink. I appreciate your kind words and will pass them on to Jim.

Now this is exceptional....and amazing that it is only 4 tracks.

I'm blown away by this one. I thought it might be fun to put something over it, but then again I think, "Why screw it up?"

It's perfect like it is.

Yet I'm compelled to see if I can add anything. So, I'll download it and if nothing else, marvel at your creativity.

Nicely done Fixxxer. This was like sitting in on a live jazz/fusion performance.

And I thoroughly enjoyed my listen :)

Well done.

on Anak Pisang - Shadow Dancing by n0mad23
Sean, this is fabulous. I think Jamie hit the nail on the head when he said this sounded like one of the Dead's jams. I had the pleasure of sitting in on one them and I've never forgotten it. It's amazing just how good live performances can be. Definitely added to favorites :) Thanks for sharing this gem.

Jammed with the Dead? I'm constantly astounded with how small the World has become. Back before the Anak Pisang (and previous Spirit House music), my spouse and I used to open for various bands in Seattle doing didgeridoo duets together, and I got a call one night by a guy visiting town and wanting to hire us to play for him while he recited poetry. Turned out to be Ira Cohen, the youngest of the Beats. Had a tough time with that performance, as most of his poetry had to do with hashish and Greek styled homoerotica, and I kept wanting to giggle while playing the didg. I bet jamming with the Dead was easier! Glad you enjoyed this one!

Brent, you have mad skills my friend. You are really a superb composer and musician. It is obvious you have a great understanding of many different genres.

This is really nice work. Probably one of the most enjoyable listens I've had in a while. Straight to favorites :)

on Schizophrenia (caveman 4 track challenge) by StephenPotter
Nice job Stephen, this is what I would call a minimalist approach to dub and I think it shows in this case, that less is more. Really nice and the mix is flawless. I've found that sometimes my most difficult mixes are the ones where I only have one of two tracks. My only complaint is I wish it were another 3 or 4 minutes in length :)

Well done.

I kinda struggle to make long things using only a small amount of sounds.. like, I get inspired to create a melody around a specific sound, and I find it so much harder to get that melody without that sound. Its strange, it's like the sound has to fit with the others or I can't make it. Thats partially why I'm fairly proud of this track, because the bass just contrasts with everything else.

I geuss with less sounds you get to focus on more things. Less choice means you can keep your ears on specific things, being able to detect the good and bad points just like that. Maybe thats why its so difficult for many people to do acoustic stuff.

Anyways, thanks for dropping by, I'll check out your one tommorow when I have acess to my speakers (its 11pm, don't wanna wake anyone up, lol)

meh, this tune proves how good the old ways were, and just how good music could sound.

Another wonderful creation, and one I have to add to favorites.

It refreshing to hear someone who is not only interested in creating classical music, but has the skill sets to pull it off. This is really well done and something you should be very proud of. I could hear someone like Leo Kotke or Tommy Emmanuel playing this piece. Beautiful work.

on Thai Girls fake it by Planetjazzbass
Oh my, Dave you have officially gone over to the dark side, hahaha. This is outstanding. If Pink Floyd put together hip hop beats, this is what they would sound like. Terrific mix, and Dolawhite is one of a kind. Man, I think you guys have created funk/fusion/hip hop. Best track I've heard in the past week.

Definitely added to favorites. Now that you have dipped your toe in the pool, you just might be inundated with requests for collaborations and personal messages asking for beats :)

Outstanding effort and my hat is off to two of my favorite peeps.

Bear

PS, I love the title to this track. But it ain't just Thai girls who fake it, hahahaha.

Another nice effort. This one has a nice build to it. Very nice mix with the elements sitting right where they are supposed to be. I am surprised some of the RnB singers on this site haven't jumped on this one yet....

maybe they just haven't heard it yet.

Great job and a stellar track.

on Oliver by bbelle
This is one hell of a good start to what could be an exceptional track. I'd say you could use this as the verse, so all you need now is a chorus and bridge. Don't give up on this one. Dust it off, look for inspiration, and finish it off.

Probably the best 38 seconds I've had in a few days :)

Nicely chilled. What a great way to start my day....just wish it was about 4 minutes longer, haha. If the rest of this ends up being this chilled, you just might have a hit on your hands. I really like the synth you added and it's got a great beat on it. Let me know when you get it finished and I'll head back over for another listen.

Great work so far!!!

You captured a great mood with the chord progression in that loop! I do want to add a bassline, and a few other sections...needs a touch of mixing work in the high range. I'll keep you posted!

on rEvolution - The Ancestral Taunts by n0mad23
Yes, I have to agree with John, if this is dub, then sign me up. I also agree with you with the use of tags instead of genres. This is outstanding, but all of your work is, so that is no surprise. Absolutely a perfect job to this point. I'm not sure what else you can do to it, but you never disappoint.

You really have a way of constructing great percussion. Freaking genius!!!!!!!!

Off to favorites with this one.

I got the critique/review I've been waiting for via email, so the next version will really undertake some major revisions. Going to try redoing both the beginning and end of this, and change the break a bit, too. I think it'll be equally groovy, but a bit more "powerful" by the time we're both satisfied with it. Thanks for the encouragement, as well as for the brilliant loops that made much of this possible. But using your loops and Planetjazzbass loops, how could we possibly go wrong? Thanks for the fave. Feeling really good about that thumbs up!

on Substance Abuse part2 by 67Ecosse
Hey Craig,

As I told you in the email, this really is a great remix. You thought of many angles I missed, thus making this one much better than the original. Now, combining what you have created with Nuada could really be interesting :)

This is a stellar effort. You can remix anything of mine whenever you want, haha. It would be a pleasure to hear what you could come up with.

Thanks for dusting this one off and taking it to another level. Well done.

Hey my friend, really nice job on this one. You have done a masterful job composing around the two different loops, not an easy thing to do. Great percussion on this track as well as a really nice mix and master.

I can imagine you will have several people asking if they can add vocals to this. It will interesting to see what happens. Again, great job.

After listening to your other song, I had to have at least one more listen, and I am just amazed at your gift.

I'm trying to figure out who you may sound like...all of the greats come to mind, but I believe you have your own distinct sound and it is incredible.

Thank you Bear for you very kind words and appreciation. Creating music has always been an outlet for me to convey where I am at that time. I love your mantra "I only have one life, so what you see is what you get." That would have been a great one for my father to live by.

Thank you again.
