Thanks for your kind words, you, yes you, great creative brain.
When I compose, I don't think music, I feel music and not. That is to say that I 'm in the music and in the effects of the sounds together. What interests me is the impact of the sounds like anamophousis do with 2D pictures. My question, when I compose is : "What can be subtil after this loop, this sequence of this phrase. Which impression or feeling, I want to reveal. So, even if I try to build a structure, I let my feeling choose how to compose. The instinct is good!
Thanks

on Without You by brillbilly
I don`t remember the 80s sounding this good brillbilly (mind you, I was distracted by other things most of that decade)...Its got the musical structure & melody strength that old school was so good at (and that has disappeared from a lot of modern stuff). To my mind this is good music in any decade you want to slot it...I could stand a whole lot more of this....super bit of work my friend....much enjoyed.....Ed

Awwwwww bless you Ed!

I just wanted to make a track that has that easy listening factor!

From all the awesome replys i've had regarding this sounding 80's,
i think i just may have captured that middle of the road, soft rock feel,
but i could well have ended up making this sound 70's lol.

Thanks so much for dropping in and taking time to leave such a nice review.

I just make what i feel like making,so next week it could be folk/acoustic/ambient/chillout/trance/cinematic/RnB lol

I will only know when what ever mood im in takes me!

Thank you again for posting you very kind comments!

All i ever wanted was just one other person to like some of my music,i never expected so many in such a short time!

I'm over the moon my friend!

on Trevelyan Skies by visionarysoundsystem
I`d call it experimental Vis...the kind of stuff that is just fun to do and conjures up pictures for the listener...The intro reminded me of morning at our country B&B last time we were back in N Ireland (near my old hometown...the birds...a rooster crowing somewhere (everything but the dog)...& from there it went to driving like crazy around those little narrow roads on the Antrim coast (wrong side of the road for me now) with the radio on....Ha...good stuff mate...interesting in the best of ways....keep on....Ed

Hiya Ed, good to hear from you and I hope all is well? Thanx for taking time to listen & review my friend. I'm glad this track conjured up images for you. It was my take on, mainly, England but also Britain in general and all the celebrations that have taken place so far this year (Queens jubilee, Olympics etc). There is a dark side to the green & pleasent land I live in but also a vibrant & positive side. LOL the one thing I did leave out was the rooster crowing. Time to go and find one and add it to the mix. Thanx again mate for your kind & supportive words.

Bravo jfw...I am old enough to have played covers of this one...recorded a cd for an old bandmate who is still attached to many of those great old instrumentals a couple of years ago and this is one of the tracks we did...great job on this one...superbly performed, and for me the bonus of some good memories....great job guys.....Ed

Thanks for the listen Ed. I guess I'm a bit like your mate in my tastes - I love well written melodic tunes and to get those you often have to go retro/vintage.

Cheers,

Jamie.

on Simple Wave by soluna
I sometimes listen to music that others call meloncholy or sad...and for some reason I often find it just beautiful listening...perhaps there is a fine line between them...enjoyed this little track soluna and though it is a simple melody that often is all that is needed....well done...Ed

on A feel good song by SavaliDalisu
you have a strong voice with lots of range SavaliDalisu...and just a straing up vocal with acoustic guitar has always appealed to me (maybe its because I clutter a lot of my mixes with too many things)....anyway, well done...keep on doing it...you may find that a bit of compression on the vocal track will help even it out a little but I`d rather hear this honest kind of performance than something thats been processed to death.....Ed

Hi Ed

Thank you so much for the kind words. It's always exciting when a new collaboration happens and this has turned out pretty well I think. I am grateful for your comments on the production too - thanks for taking the time to mention it's merits. I always try to keep things simple and get the best from what I have. SC has a great vocal style and delivered some exceptional stems for me to work with. A talented guy in no mistake.

Thanks again Ed.

on Bastards Revenge by ggarris
this one is a trip gg....the acoustic gives it an almost western vibe...until the electric guitar parts kick it up to rock land....again, I must say I like the compositional ideas with the little breaks & changeups but with that driving beat & bass-synts lines that just keep it moving on....definitely the kind of mix that lends itself well to the soundtrack of the right kind of pictures....another dandy......Ed

on Fixation Desperation by visionarysoundsystem
Hey Vis.....now this has a real summery sound to it....the kind of upliftinf stuff we could all use more of...hope you find the kind of collab you are looking for...us old guitar guys aren`t verty good on the electronic/dance stuff(speaking of myself of course) but I think you have done a couple of things that invite a collab on this one....you have left some room for anyrhing from vocal parts...to keys...etc or a bit of a contrasting melody.....and just as importantly you haven`t slammed the whole thing with a brick wall limited to push the loudness as the expense of dynamics....its about right & would fit nicely with well mixed tracks....good on ya.....keep on & all the best....Ed

Ed my friend it's always so good to see you drop by my lil corner of the Loop. Thanx so much for the listen & review.
So far I've only had one message from a fellow Looper asking to put vocals on top but haven't heard anything further from them.
It's nice to know you think the track is "ripe" for collab and for once I haven't indulged in audio overkill lol.
Thanx again mate, your input is truely inspirational for me.

on Feelin Sweet Ft AnomalyJ by visionarysoundsystem
good blues going down here VSS...its always on my listening menu and I enjoyed this one a lot....good for you.....Ed....easiest way to control levels is just to...insert a volume envelope on the particular track and click along the line anywhere to raise or lower volume...or depending of what DAW you use ..just use the volume automation feature on the track........If you dont have that next best bet may be to just pull the level down & insert a compressor...slam it fairly hard (but not too fast on the attack) to all ow it to work as well as it can in the mix.....the way you EQ the organ will make a big difference on how well it is distinguished in the mix too (I would do the eq first, then check on volume automation)

Hiya Ed, hope all is well with you & yours? Thanx so much for your positive review & helpful advice mate. I really appreciate you taking time to do this. I use a mixture of Magix DAWS. Premium 17 to work in and MX Premium to finalise, edit & mix. The compressors are limited but I will try again & there is a volume automation tool I can use. I have also been offered advice on using a envelope tool which the program has. When I get some spare time I will re-visit and take the advice on board. It sure won't be a chore lol 'cos I have a sweet feelin' for this track, as does the good lady Mrs Vis so I can do it through speakers rather then 'phones. Thanx again my friend. Your words inspire me.

on How to Play - Ft JJKilla and BabyGee by ggarris
Really like the thinking that went in the composition gg..real chill, butat the same time the beat sections just keep it driving & the ears perked...enjoyed it well done...Note the comments on lever (vocal ) I always insert a voilume envelope or volume automation to automatically ride the track volume and also insert a compressor..you will read different opinions but in my experience (25+ years recording) vocals in most styles benefit from compression....in any case I like it as is, but would be better with the vocal levels up a fair bit & more even....keep on...good to hear you around the Loop....Ed
ggarris
ggarris replied 1st Dec 2012 - 13 years ago
Thank you and mucho apologies for the delayed response. I've been told on my other tracks that compression is needed. That is my next feat in this self taught hobby. As the saying goes - it's a labour of love. You know what I'm talkin bout.

on I Know You Well by CoffeBreak1
very nicely done CoffeeBreak...the lasy has a beautiful voice and the accompaniment sounds just great...like the chord progression...very catchy...if I could suggest anything it would be just to add some kind of litle break in the 2nd half with a chord/key change & then come back to what you have...please take my comment as constructively intended...I only mention it because I think that you have a beautiful little piece of music here that has much potential.....great piece of work man....keep on....Ed
