Thanks so much Wongki for your kind review!
I love the special gift you've sent me and will use it to enhance the mix!
Matthew was a little boy,son of a friend of mine.In an awful tragedy,he died when his bedroom caught fire due to a faulty heater.
He was only 2 years old.Little Star was an album I wrote for him and a lot of the tracks are on my looper page. His death haunts me to this day and I just keep writing about him.Music is my way of dealing with pain.I can lose myself for days in the music. It helps me escape from reality.I'm so glad you like this track and thank you for your contribution. It means more than you know.Love always.lofty.x

Yeah this is more like it :)

Again I love the vocals, really emotional. Who is Matthew? If he can hear this I'm sure he'd tell you he's proud of what you've done :)

Really nice track man..

Thanks for sharing!

Ahhh mate.. I'm gonna have to get that vocal now.. That's niiiice..

As for the track. Love it. It rolls nice and smooooth. Particularly love the bongo's - gives a tribal feel. The pads are reminiscent of something akin to that of Enigma..

Do you think maybe I'd be able to get the wav's for this and add stuff? Sort of like a colab/remix type thing?

Nice job man :)

Hey thanks man. Yeah of course you can have a go with it. As i was saying to Alen, I wanted to do more with it but it kept playing up so i just ended up keeping it short.
I'll chop it up into wavs and send it over for you.

Yeah this is really good!!

It sounds like late 80's/early 90's music which I just *loveee* :D .. referring to your earlier comment

Now on my third listen..

It goes without saying, this is fantastic. Love your interpretation of the vocals. There's something so laid back about this that I could listen to it all day, really puts me in the mood for summer..

Honestly? Not so keen on the guitar solo personally,.. But a minor detail in the grand scheme of things..

Really, excellent job. Thanks for the Download :P

Hey WongKi

Glad you liked the feel of this and thanks for your comments. You're the only one who has picked up on the solo and I have to admit I was never that happy with it from the start. The patch is terrible!! I wanted something that cut right across the whole thing and I think I have achieved that in a bad way! When time permits I'll get back to it and try again.

Thanks for the comments - much appreciated.

I'm not going to focus on the music.. (I already know the pros and cons quite intimately lol)

Instead I want to focus on the important part - the vocals.

Honestly? I think they are really good. There's something really soulful and meaningful about them...

They aren't mixed as well as I would like to see,.. and *ideally* would have liked to see them on a different backing track if I'm being totally honest.

I've never been that fond of the loops I upload really :p

Personally, I think you should ditch my loops and go for something more chilled..

Thanks for sharing man :)

Shoo WongKi,you're a tuff nut to crack.I totally love your loops and don't think this song would go anywhere without them!Thank's for you comments and I'm glad you like the vocals.Sorry the mix dissapoints,I was probably too eager to get it up.I'll work on it some more and see where I can take it.Thanks again for the review and,I think, positive feedback.Love always.lofty.x

on Essential Javstar Remix by Thefly94
Whoooa that kick really hits ya on the intro lol..

My initial thoughts: I'm drawn straight to the mix and how muddy it is.. plenty of clipping going on as well.. maybe something that needs more work? It actually sounds like you have a bit crusher on the master channel in places..

You don't need to have everything *really* loud when you mix.. it just destroys the stereo image and isn't so pleasant to listen to.

As to the track it's self - some pretty cool ideas going on man, everything's in tune lol.. maybe a bit of variation on the melodies would enhance the track as well.

Just some food for thought :)

Keep Jammin' man

Thanks for the tips.

Yeah, as far as the mixing goes, I really messed up this one. :/

I tried to find a balance between the song I was remixing and my original material, but in the end I guess I ended up making them both too loud...

I'll definately keep your words in mind when I go back to fix it.

Thanks for taking the time to critiqe my work, it really means alot. I love getting feedback from people who actually know what they're doing (in case you couldn't tell, I'm pretty new at this. This was only the second remix I've ever done.)

HA! xD

Kick "Fuck......" Kick Kick "Fuck......"

You *could* just say the guys saying "funk" .. you'd probably get away with it too

As to the track.. ummmm.... arrrr... There's plenty going on that's for sure. I bet this has had a few hours put into it.

I'd say it needs more low end really!

Other than that, I'd say it's all good in the hood :)

Lemme know when it's finished dude!

Thanks man, Your right about the low end. I should go back and sort this out really. I dunno why, but i just seem to get almost to the end and then just think...."sod it, I'll start another one"
It's ridiculous really. It's a bit like climbing everest and then saying "screw this" when your one hundred feet from the summit.
Thanks for tuning in.

You've got some banging melodies going on here that's for sure man!

The only problem is the mix - agree with the poster below, the bottom end gets totally lost little by little as you introduce new sounds.. really muddy.

If you want, I'll mix it n master it for you. Don't worry, I don't charge... although I probably should start doing that soon.

just message me if you want it done..

Good job man!

LOVE the intro..

How come this only has 1 comment on it so far? This is fantastic..

There are some amazing sounds - I particularly like the arabian sounding strings and the subtle keys and the wah wah :)

I can't really comment on the lyrics because je ne comprends pas :p

Over all though, this is superb - if you aren't signed to a record label - why not?
Soap
Soap replied 13th Mar 2012 - 13 years ago
Thank you George... I'm glad you like it...

My god if you only knew how hard it was to record that f$£^%ing violin !!! It's not my main instrument, and I don't really know about this "arabian" kind of playing sooooo... I cheated with Melodyne, and doubled it with some ueberschall one shots to make it sound fatter... Sorry to deceive you lol...

Regarding the lyrics, it's the track in which he introduces himself... ( Title says "here I come..." ). Actually, the intro is a real phone conversation with his sister "bleed mic-recorded" in the studio... They had to meet, he was late, so they argued a lil bit on the phone, and later on, I found the track in Pro Tools without knowing I had recorded it... :D That's why the intro was the very last thing added to the track :D

Again thank you for your feedback and kind comment :)

Chris
( Regardin' the label, I have never tried to get in touch with a label, I even don't know what to do with my music... This was In10gene's part of the job, but the french don't like to work that much so... ;)

I really should check out more people's work and I thought I'd start by coming here today..

I've honestly gotta say I think this is awesome.. It's rare that I give out praise, it's normally just all criticism lol

From start to finish this has had me engaged... it's got a great progressive nature that just creeps right on up to ya. I think this is the first track of it's kind that I've heard.. LOTS of atmosphere that's reminiscent of Liquid DnB to me (which I love).

Despite the bass line being flat throughout, there's sufficient other going's on that reward my ears sonically.

There's a couple of places where the mix peaks (I think it's the growly, distorted bass thing) - but nothing major.

Not much more to say other than "Fantastic show mate!"

Keep Jammin'

Toonz
FreeRadical
FreeRadical replied 21st Feb 2012 - 13 years ago
thanks mate, yeah those peaks do kind of spoil it a bit and there's also this crackly thing on the bass that only ever mysteriously appeared after i'd converted the file. I spent ages trying to get rid of it but it was a bit like trying to spot the invisible man in a where's wally book.
eventually i settled on "f*ck it! that'll do."
Anyway, I'm a great believer in give as good as you get so i'm going to be popping over to your profile now to return the favour.
Thanks for tuning in Wonki (love that name by the way)

on STAND BY YOU - Aidan Woody by AidanWoody95
The track its self is awesome.. Sounds like a few timing issues on the vox but an element easily overlooked considering..

That's a few of your tracks I've listened to now. For a 16 year old lad you've got crazy skills when it comes to putting a track together, I wonder where you'll be in 5 years time?? :)

BUT..... and it is a big but... the mix leaves a lot to be desired.

Quite a lot of your tracks are clipping and sound muddy, I wonder what processes you use before you render to MP3?

If you want me to mix n master a couple of your tracks for free just hit me up mate :) I'll make 'em sound nice and clean and club ready!

on Tumble Dryer by visionarysoundsystem
Glad to see some new house from you dude :) Starts out nice n smooth like..

When you start to build up the percussion there's a little bit of clashing like one loop is ever so slightly out of step or something.. but I could be wrong - in fact after listening again I think I am lol.

The change up's in the percussion gives a little something extra.. Other than that there's not much else to say other than good job mate! :)

Hey good job man!

There's a couple of places where the loop ending is a bit abrupt but that's my fault.. You could try using the full 16 bar loop with the tail - fade the tail out to take the edge off the transistions..? that's what I was planning on doing :)

I really like the additions you've made.. in particular, the outro.. I would like to have seen more of it, maybe for like a break down or something?

Over all though, good job man - you've made more of the loops than what I have lol :)
SimplicityBeats
SimplicityBeats replied 14th Feb 2012 - 13 years ago
yea your right.... i was going to just chop the last bit and make it unique so just to throw reverb on it but after it was all done i forgot to and forgot to use the the tail loop haha

yea man thanks for putting them up... If you want ill extend it and turn the outro in an epic break down and have it fade out with a chorus. Just let me know.

Well fuck me... you kept this one quiet didn't you?

I've actually been waiting for this day - you've always seemed like you really know what you're doing - and now here it is in my ears and I'm not disappointed..

The first track is right up my alley and it's a shame there isn't more to listen to. The accordion is awesome! I can see it's gonna be an absolutely top notch track when it's finished.. :)

The second track is a bit too Ricky Martin for my taste lol

Heheh thanks Toonz! I've had a long period without song writing and lately it kinda caught up to me and started doing it again. Been far to busy telling people what to play and how to sound (Had some recording sessions that have been killing me since December)

I'm still waiting for the vocals to be recorded on the first one and the second one will probably happen next week.

At the moment I don't have music posted on any other sites but I'll have a couple of surprises coming for you guys and hopefully they'll be pleasant surprises.

Thanks once again!

on Prometheus by Protoneutro
Whoa.....

This is like - oh so good. I'm really surprised that I'm the first to comment on this even though it's been up for 2 months nearly?
Superb melodies and the mix is pretty darn good. Love the sound of the filters on the breakdown.

I can't offer you any *criticisms* per sé ... but rather, maybe just a few things that I would have done differently?

Firstly - I woulda turned the bass up on this a bit more. I can hear the kick thumping like it's supposed to, but anything below that is barely audible to me, but then again, I haven't heard this on a decent sound system.

Secondly - The main synth line, I'm going to call it the "pop corn synth", is present throughout the entire track - including the breakdown - and it creates a little bit of tedium, to my ears at least.. I would have maybe replaced it on the breakdowns for more pad like synths to give an "epic" sort of feel - if that makes sense at all?

and lastly - I probably would have introduced an additional lead at some point to compliment and counterpoint the popcorn synth - something solid sounding without any sort of gating or pop corny-ness lol.

But, that all having been said. Just listening to this one track of yours beats all of mine hands down, and you clearly know a lot more about the craft than I do.. so feel free to ignore me :)

Thanks for sharing dude! Great job...

Mate,.. this track is banging. You haven't overdone it at all, everything is spot on and firmly within the "House" genre! I struggle to keep in one genre and my stuff almost always ends up being wayyyy too trancey (which annoys me no end)

The vocal chops add a little something extra special and this is a highly professional sounding track that wouldn't be out of place in a pro DJ's set. I really mean that..

Awesome job mate!
