I'm constantly impressed by your tracks, and this one is no exception.
You've got an amazing understanding of sonic movement: your transitions are spot one, and the emotion coming out of the piano is absolutely amazing. Your voice is a perfect addition to this mix.
Koukotsu's joining this site is a splendid thing. She's one of those that really stands out, both in terms of her artistry and in terms of her presence.
This collaboration really validates this for me. I loved your collaboration on "Lizard Breath" and I like this one equally well. Faved.
At first I wasn't sure about the transposing you did to Holly's vocals, but by the 2 minute mark I'd changed my mind. It works, and works well. Just the right key for this track.
I'm glad to see you off in electro land - you've got a real flare and understanding of this kind of music. It may be embryonic, but it's happening - for true! The arrangement here is fantastic! Levels are spot on, transitions right where they need to be, etc. Jammin` track my friend!
Yeah - this is definitely more along the lines of what I was thinking. It's got that "extended remix" feel to it now. Love what you've done with mixing effects (which is what I was wanting) almost giving it that dubby feel, too.
Love the beat, and really love the drone quality at the beginning. You've got a really good sense of arrangement here (the levels are fantastic!) as well as great timing in your transitions.
I'm with DamienAston - if this is the direction you're going, keep it up and "screw the genres". Cheers!
I'm with BigPete and AJ both in terms of pushing it further. I'd like to hear a bit more on the fx side of the remix (surprise, surprise) in particular, as I think that's really working.
This is happening! Got a great foundation, and off to a fabu start. Looking forward to hearing what you do with it, and the expectation of adding it to my faves.
My Man in Dalian! What a great remix! David C Deal's sound is rather unique, and I honestly couldn't imagine his work remixed into a hip hop context. Well you did just that, and it really works! Somehow you've made it sunny and happy in the process, too.
u are right, David C is an amazing player N0m, and i really like this track i worked with him on.
i am looking forward to more work.
thnx for the comment
I actually remembered the Tears for Fears song within 15 seconds of pressing play. I think your version captures the sentiments better than the original, somehow. Maybe it's the spirit of the `23 Beale? Very nice and simultaneously haunting.
I'm a space fiend, so I had to have a listen to this after seeing the title. My first thought was SpaceShip2 and Virgin Galactic down in Mohave.
Cooler still, is how well this track works in that context. I can see the White Knight and SpaceShip2 on the tarmac, liquid miragescape trembling down the runway. From the Desert to Space!
Wow. I love this one - and seeing 3 previous reviews and as many faves is a good validation as to why. (I'm adding it, too.) What a great fusion of Funk, Jazz, and Chill Out! Doing this for your daughter, it's easy to see what an inspiration she can be. Cheers!
Certainly has that late 80's vibe happening - sans the whistle (which btw my 13 year old would be bummed - it's the whistle that makes any track good for her!) I was really listening to give you some constructive criticism, by am drawing a blank. All the right things are in this one, and the arrangement is really sweet. Cheers.
This certainly could work as a cinematic track, too! I really dig what happens when the percussion kicks in, and the vocals you use keep it grounded in the disturbing vibe. Really well done.
This one's very cool (ashe, ashe) if you catch my drift. Made me really think about the fusionary nature of the music from that part of the continent. Did you know the trumpet and other brass really enter into W. African music because of independence and exchange/economic aid from Cuba? Funny that, as most of the sensibilities of that brass came out of W. Africa to begin with. But where did those sensibilities originate? The region is the crossroads between everything south and the Mediterranean. The exchange of music has always been a major part of the underlying culture there.
The "Modern/Traditional" genre is really popular, and artists like Yousou N'dour, Baba Maal, Sekouba Bambino, and Salif Kieta do a lot of it (esp. Maal and Bambino) and are getting pretty well know in the West. The vocals in "Timbuktu to Bambino" really ground it in this genre as well (imho).
I wonder if you might push it a little more toward the "traditional" side somehow. Have you thought about trying some traditional strings (kora, molo, or godji) around the vocals? Might be outside what you're trying to do, but might be very cool, too. Just a thought.
I really like how you allow this to wax and wane - really good use of filling the space with sound and also allowing it to get sparse. The fx are a great interpretation of firework rockets, and the bell really works the same way a pad would - nice. Really like this one, keep it up!
Ho ho - psychoacoustic phenomena galore! Your use of panning and echoes really do a number on the brain-box - and in the context of music to dance to - well, what can be said? Kudos! Awesome!
I see what you mean about Industrial confusion. This one certainly fits the bill for the dance side of the genre. Very nice choices of sounds and a great mix, too. Love the depth of that bass!
A little old Test Dept. vibe happening here with your percussive choices. Nice how you've merged several styles of music and still kept an Industrial sensibility. Cheers.
Well, not being terribly younger than you are, it really comes out how we carry the influences of our experience. I love the digeridoo drone sound happening here (check out some of my work, and you'll see why)! Works so well with the other sounds you've got happening here. This would be great for closing credits, wouldn't it?
