on Saturn Kilometric (Among Giants) by siensystem
You and Shaub Yaella are doing some very interesting work along somewhat similar lines. He's done some work with algorithms that strikes me in very much the same way.

It's exciting as it reveals fundamental beauty underlying all. No surprise really once one realizes that it's all about frequency. Interpret and translate those frequencies into ones we can hear and appreciate, and the forms are revealed in spectacular ways.

Something rather prophetic about this approach.

Faved this one, as I can't imagine a better sonic representation of either the planet or the son of Chronos.

Thanks n0mad. You selected probably the one from the Universe project that has become my favorite. I built the software that performs conversions in a few ways. I'd have to write allot to really tell you how all works but mainly it's based on some subjects of wavelengths, spectroscopy and light properties. I'm in the process of trying to complete a v1 that I can release for others to use. Thanks again, I'm glad that you liked it.

on Back at the chicken shack (Saxobones) by SLAPJOHNSON
It feels like time-warping into that moment right between Big Band and Jazz. The jazz sensibility you guys are jacked into is fantastic! I totally agree with PBJ about the restraint shown by your drummer - totally happening track! Faved.

on 10 MINUTE CHALLENGE-PREZIVOR by Prezivor
Nice one. I think perhaps the best thing about this "challenge" is how it forces a focused discipline, or raises the bar in terms of production.

For a 10 minute draft, this is awesome. Certainly worth returning to in terms of revising.

on I am a groupie by ShiftLifter
Funny that no one has reviewed this yet.

I really like the rhythm and transitions you've got here. Really nice beat, and the breaks are just where I want them. The only constructive criticism I can really give is to suggest that you bring the vocals up a bit more. I think it would be nice if they were a bit more 'up front' in this mix.

Very nice tune! Well done.

Thank you for giving me a good advice. I'm sure I will find time soon to make it sound better. :)

on Jupiter Storms (Turbulent Calm) by siensystem
What's truly amazing here is that it authentically captures the "mood" of the images I've seen. Something regal or noble happening behind this ambiance.

I think much of art is like that, whether the sculpture unlocking the form within the stone, or even the lapidarist who facets the crystal into a jewel.

on Lost in Space by FrenchKid18
If I ever get A House Ignoble and Divided published, and it's turned into a screen play, I'll need to work out a deal for this to be in the soundtrack. I'm glad to find someone else who's contemplated the logistics of such a scenario.

I do believe this is my favorite Rock song of yours yet. Good call collaborating with Wayne.

Faved.

Thanks a lot for reviewing again and contributing so much to the great spirit of the site!

on ANXIETY AND THE NEW FEAR (UNRAVELLED) by theassociation
I love this one. Certainly in the realm of Dark Ambiance, and I feel a direct continuation of early Coil recordings. Shades of Horse Rotivator or Scatology. The effected wind has a real connection to their recording "Five Minutes after Death".

The aspect I find really interesting here is how sonically this carries both a sense of anxiety, but connected with a sense of resignation, too. Very interesting to hear these two emotional locations connected like this. Maybe that's the remedy? To accept and deal instead of reject that emotion?

Absolutely fabulous work here, and worthy of adding to my list of personal favorites. Cheers!

You are prolific in production. I haven't heard enough of your tracks yet to really comment on overall impressions, but man - this one's NICE.

Love the minimalism, and the arrangement as a whole. Good ear to levels and placement.

on A Seven Course Breakfast With The Goddess by ShojoBeast
Yes ShojoBeast, I think you've done an outstanding track here. I feel privileged that you let me master this one, and sprinkle my pixie-dust where needed.

It was very easy as you were so generous with the servings.

Added to my favorites for all the right reasons!

Thank you for the pixie dust!!!
I fell honored that YOU of all people could master my song for me. As you can see I have no tools to do such things yet.

Thanks again!!!

on Elina Milan - Sadness (Kubikk remix) by ElinaMilan
Nice track. It's impossible to listen to without moving somehow. You either have to jump up and dance, or at least move your head and tap feet. Very dance oriented.

I'm not sure about the title, though. On my second listen, I kept trying to find the "sadness" and I just can't hear it. The closest I could find (for me) was in a melody, but it seemed more like a bitter-sweet memory (happy/sad).

Maybe I spend too much time thinking about language?

Again, I think you've got really good arrangement here. I can't offer suggestions for the levels, as it's where I would want to put it, too. You've got real skill, and your music's a pleasure to listen to.

on Kubikk feat. Elina Milan - Tirbi by ElinaMilan
Hello ElinaMilan - maybe if I give a review, others will follow. With 26 plays and a download, it seems someone should say something!

I love your percussion - around 4 minutes in, I was reminded of waves crashing on a beach. The minimal vocals ending that section are fantastic.

Lovely arrangement. You've got a good ear for levels, and where they should be in a mix. Look forward to hearing more of your work. Cheers.

on Birdland by jfw
Man it's been far too long since I've visited your track page.

To me, this is more of an interpretation than a cover. While it's totally recognizable within moments, your version stands entirely on its own merits. I actually find I like the MIDI-ishness of the keys here BECAUSE of the contrast with the more live sounds.

This is HAPPENING! Really well done!

Nice work, but I have to agree with the others - need to watch those levels. I can hear some real skill here, but addressing the final 'product' you'll also show that you really care about your craft as well. "I'm so proud of this one that I really spent some time with it."

There's some great stuff happening in here! Keep it up!

on FASTER CARS (FAR QUE1 MIX) by theassociation
Ohhhh - I do love the bass thump here! The reoccurring pseudo-melody is really lovely, too - almost like an impression of a trumpet overcome by gale force winds into a crash.

This is really impressive work. Totally dance motivating, but with enough interesting things going on to appease the musical intelligensia as well. Awesome layering going on.

Added to favorites.

Perception - that's the key isn't it? Figuring out our own limitations and blinders. You have no idea how many times I've enjoyed this particular track, Dave. At least 4 of the "unknown user" listens are me (on IE and not logged in). This one gets played A LOT on Mixradio, and some one always comments as well. My own blinder: how seldom I bother to tell you.

Obviously added to my favorites.

on the City at Night by CalifKen
I'd say closer to Neuromantic than Neurotic, but maybe it's just me. Love the vox!

Oh man, the bass line is so happening! The dance between the synths and that bass are truly inspired. Seriously infectious and added to faves.

Wish I could be more constructive, but it's like that sometimes - like something so much you can't find anything to improve.

on Among the Stars by Kenikos
I had to have a listen after seeing Tales from Topographical Oceans is one of your favorites.

Outstanding. The "celestial" vibe your working with here really creates a sonic space that invokes all kinds of imagery. All my favorite Ambient tracks do this, it seems.

Great use of Eshar's poem, too. Faved.

Tales from Topographic Oceans is one of those albums people either love or hate. I think it's very under-appreciated and it's a favorite of mine...all 4 tracks. The guys in Yes are all superb musicians and masters of playing their own instruments; I can only dream. Yes's music (and Pink Floyd's too I might add) has greatly influenced how I put these loops together. Anyway, glad you like this one. Eshar created a great starting point. Thanks for the nice words. -Ken

Wow. Thumping bass now included.

And the best of all - you haven't lost any of the Spirit underneath this track in the remix at all. Amazing. Added to Faves.

Great stuff happening in this track. The intro is nice as it really doesn't prepare you for what's coming next - sometimes this approach doesn't work - but here I can't imagine it working better. I also really love how there's a background sound like an organ from a reggae track. Fabulous grounding in that.

Man, your arrangement is great! You've got mixing down to an Art. No constructive criticism possible from me. Keep it going!

on stay (the bells and whispers) by theassociation
Funky backbeat, aye? It really threw me for the first two cycles, and then it works - amazingly well. I love how the rhythm and melody dance together in this piece. Great punctuation, too.

For some reason, I keep thinking of Indonesian gamelan though it's not really very similar. Perhaps the tuned percussion of the bells? In any event, it's a fantastic piece - compels dance, embodies a lovely Ambiance, and remains interesting until the final note. Sweet. Added to faves.

thanks for those great reviews, and yes at the moment my computer is giving me grief so next monday ill go to the desktop and im getting help to install the cubase so ill fire up some mixes of distinguish lol.
well i have lyrics and am trying to find a singer to wash their vocals over stay, and what probably throws you is a combination of bells and kalimba from the yamaha and a backup of deep synth, i love this track as i think it maintains an alternativeness yet will be commercially catchy...i believe.
great reviews and thanks!

on melodia by theassociation
The Ambient sensibility here is fantastic. I was jacked straight into the emotional location before the one minute mark.

I was going to give a recommendation on levels and separation of the channels, but I see you've addressed that with oskarssonPL already.

I love that bassline, and really would like to hear it emphasized. It's seriously reminiscent of the best of The Cure's basslines. To die in bliss for.

Nice work, will definately be checking out more from you. Cheers!

on EuNegMa - Overall by EuNegMa
I love your rhythms. Like me, you hear them like melodies, and then go the route of polyrhythms. Good choice.

There's a sense of simplicity and minimalism in this, but there's so much going on at the same time. Very cool.

Nice work! Cheers.

Yeah man! I figured if anyone was going to do a hip hop track I'd really like, you'd be the one! Sure enough. Almost on the edge of dub step, maybe?

Love that bass! Love the arrangement, too. The sparseness of the vocals really work - great punctuation with that.
