Great song, but I think the vocals could use a little de-essing. A little harsh on the high end. But wow, I dig those vocals. Flows nicely and has a cool groove. The backtrack is pretty dope as well.

Whoops, I didn't get to finish! Lol :P I dig that bass line. Definitely goes hard :P I only ask cuz it sounds like SHWAKS bassline and he uses GB :P But this one definitely goes hard. That horn is legit too!

lol good ear, yeah this is all garageband. I usually use reason and protools but find that garageband is way more accessible when it comes to mainly loops. glad that you like it though, love the input, helps me tons.

Pretty chill groove here. I feel like the drums could use a little more umph haha but overall its pretty catchy. Looking forward to hearing some verses over this haha.

Sorry if I came across a little harsh :P Good work on this one regardless, I dig the way you structured the song. Has a very catchy, get-up-and-dance feel to it. Unique use of vocals as well.

I really dig that beat. Seems to be lacking just a tad in clarity on some parts, in my opinion, but lovely work nonetheless. The song structure is superb.

KooLKYLE replied 5th Apr 2015 - 10 years ago
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment I agree the clarity is not the best with the synths being so high pitched it was hard trying to make them sound clear and I forgot to eq the snare lol and it seems to be messing up the master compression :)

Definitely a little "Strange" - on the cool side of it! I REALLY dig that bassline the most. The drums are so simple and yet so addicting, I love it. This one is definitely beautiful man. Keep it up,

Hey thank you ER for the kind comment, and not being angry for the wait on a reply! I definitely don't mind being on the strange side of cool, oh wait the cool side of strange ha ha. I think you'll probably enjoy the new update of this song, as it's finally a finished product now. A real song not just a sketch. I didn't know it was a sketch at the time, but that's how it goes. Interested to hear your opinion! Thanks again!

Wow, beautiful synth work. Very relaxing.

There were some minor issues with fading out in very few spots so not really a big deal.

I like how relaxed this song is man! Great work! That horn that comes in is really cool! So much going on at such a subtle level.

The drums are a nice addition, but might be a hair too loud in the mix, not sure. I think it's sits on the edge of being too loud but it's a fine line here.

Lots of cool stuff going on. The bass line in the background is doing a lot of cool little runs and stuff, pretty sweet.

Pretty sweet job here man. That solo guitar is great but I think it'd benefit a little more with some more reverb or some sort of "space-filler" plugin to make it sound bigger-than-life. Right now it sits a little stiffly in the middle of the mix. Great work though. That solo is definitely killer.

Kudos to you for this one! Great work!

Beautifully done, SJ! :)

I don't know if it's just me but I could've sworn I could hear some clipping in the mix. Gotta be careful there. But the piano is very beautiful! And the vocal is mixed beautifully with everything else! Not too busy, which I definitely like! Keep it up, SJ :) Look forward to hearing more!

Hello ER - there could very well be some clipping.
The drum thing is taking a lot of space in the mix and I did EQ and pan it and all the other sounds but I also turned up the volume when rendering...not the most genious thing to do.

Going to work some more on this I hope and add some bass etc. and check the levels more closely. Just that the computer with the daw in it is behaving badly...it could die any minut. =D
Thanks for listening and leaving a comment, you talented young man.

Cheers/ SJ =)

Wow, this goes really hard. There is a lot of compression but I suppose thats fine with a track of this type. For some reason, I did feel that the low end was a little lacking. But still a catchy song :) Great work,

If you'd be willing to send me the basic stems (your piano part, the bass part and the others, etc.) I'd be willing to try and mix it for you for your purposes! Just hit me up at ehiracheta2@islander.tamucc.edu if you're interested. No biggie if not!

Ahh okay, that makes sense! Don't get me wrong - the piano was played most beautifully! I apologize if I came across with a "better than thou" attitude as that was not my intention by any means :) I look forward to hearing the upright with this one!

thanks again. I won't be reworking this one. These last months I had too many sketchy projects. Just testing out of what I can do. This song is not mine - please check out vocalist's soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/csssss

I am trying to be open to any kind of suggestions as possible so thanks!. It is appreciated.

I will simply just keep commenting on here to hit the 1000 listens or more with this one some day lol, just a thought

Powerful. Touching. In-your-face. Well-mixed. What else shall I say? Truly, awesome. I feel that maybe the drums could've been slightly louder on some small parts but it's great stuff. The music change at 1:23 is awesome! So much energy, though it gets busy to a point of being "too-much." The transition at 1:53 is a little rough. Feels too much of a sudden change. Maybe something like a cymbal effect to blend the two parts. Overall, beautiful work.

Those vocals are really touching. Sure, maybe the vocals could be adjusted a bit. I know it would sound awesome if mixed correctly! I like your and your daughters voice. Lots of emotion.

Cheers!

PS - Your voice reminds me of an 80s singer :P Thats a good thing!

on Fya Philly-Fya Evil Prod by Alex Orozco by Philemonster1
Great song, but a little too overcompressed in my opinion. You lose the power of the song because everything is being pushed to the limit and is causing the song as a whole to lose the in-your-face powerful feeling you get with this type of song; everything is already being driven to the max and is having to be pulled down by the limiter in a not-so-attractive way. I think its this compression that seems to have made the drums and music in general lose its "umph" and the vocals are kinda sitting a little far upfront (the music is a hair too soft). I think maybe dropping them back a bit and maybe increasing the power of your de-esser by a little will help with the sibilances. Despite these mixing issues, it's still a cool song to listen to, even if it's not exactly my cup o' tea :P

You are 100% right man, i really wish i was like "the best vocal mixer in the world" but im not..ag- i will capitalize on what you told me to do, and the beat just looks like a bar of soap lol,soo not right,a lot of producers hate overly compressed stuff like that,in reality- all the mixing i do myself on vocals is still practice..i really need a mentor of some kind lol.i will upload a newly mixed one soon as i do one thats not so embarrassingly mixed as this hahaha

Thanks bro

I think this song might be helped a little by panning out the electric guitar more to the left or right, give the song some air. The sibilances are really quite strong on the vocals. Might wanna consider putting some de-essers on them to reduce it!

I like song structure though. Beautiful work.

It sounds like tHere are 3 different keys being played simultaneously by the different instruments. Kinda hard to listen to for me for that reason, but if that issue gets fixed, this would be a fun one to jam to. Cheers,

I like the chords on the acoustic :P The vocal is beautiful! The piano is too close in. Needs to be pulled back to make a much more blended sound. Right now, it sticks out too far out and makes for a slightly uncomfortable listening experience :P

Kudos,

Thanks Epic! Really happy you liked this song.

I mostly agree with what you're saying - there's no proper mixing here - it is basically just a raw sketch of a song. I think as a sketch it works perfectly, as a finished recording - not really. The piano is not a real piano but sample-based vst piano played from the digital piano keyboard. So this is quite artificial in itself as I had to emulate the expression of a real acoustic piano.

Still I would rather say that the piano is nicely balanced and remains very corresponding. The only problem is that it has some 'punch' effect - I do not like that too. But do not worry - I intend to record my upright piano very soon and will hopefully return with some more acoustic music.

Thank you again! A.

The arrangement is beautiful. I definitely love that intro. The bass seems a little odd; the whole song sounds a little odd in my opinion. I actually like the emotion it evokes; mysterious and interesting. Good work on this one!

I'd suggest getting a free limiter here:

http://www.masseyplugins.com/

Click "try em'" and download to your computer. The demo version mastering limiter (along with some other plugins) is free to use and will keep your music from clipping in the future. It's a quite effective and easy tool to use and can be very beneficial to any mix. I'd suggest giving it a try!

I actually like the mix on this one. Sure there is what to my ear sound like some lossiness on some of the sounds used, and the drums could be a tad louder in my humble opinion, but the whole structure is great. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Beautiful piece.
