Ha ha now that's a tasteless video there, but funny nonetheless ! I'm not sure if you've ever heard of him but I have been a fan of Sylvain Cloux for years. Hes a french guitarist who does amazing metal renditions of theme songs and covers. I sort of tried to do this in his style. if you get a chance check him out. I love his Munster's and Bond theme covers. Thanks for the comment Cru !!!

Meshuggin' regreetings.

Oh no, don't get me wrong - I thought it was a really well made track, just not my preferred heavy style. I thought my detailed review demonstrated that I thought it was good. My musical tastes are somewhat separate from my evaluation of a track. And you don't make music to entertain me (and vice versa).

"the inability of playing power chords. They sound terrible with the low tuning."

That makes sense as I guess it's a bit like strumming mid to high chords on bass guitar (though that can also be effective). But you could play those same chords beyond the 12th fret. I know that's not the most comfortable sort of chord playing position but it could be done. And stop ot from sounding so low and messy. I'm sure you've given it a go.

" the cymbals were washing out and again I'm noticing it."

I didn't really notice but if it's bothering you, I guess you need to find a way to fix it. Or just get it closer to what you want.

"the Looperman version has dramatically effected the dynamics"

Not sure I've heard that before. I thought it was supposed to be exactly the same, no artifacts introduced.

"Maybe my next track will be more to your liking."

It might be but I really wouldn't worry if it's not.

My country track has been put on the back burner, partly because my latest one is going rather well. It's drum 'n' cell - d'n'b with loads of one particular instrument. It's fun and far out and you'll probably like it.

Merry mothafuckin' Xmas!

Hey Yulemad,

Sorry for the delayed response, I wasn't expecting a regreeting on this. The holidays has consumed a lot of my free time. Regarding the dynamics issue, I found that I had accidently added a limiter to the master track somehow (?) so the fault was entirely mine and sorry for even questioning Looperman. I removed it and re-uploaded like the next day so what you've heard is the fixed version. No man, no butt hurt on my part, I don't expect people to like all my tracks. I enjoy the constructive criticism as much as the praising which we all know is sometimes not as genuine. Hope you enjoy the holidays !

Some thickness, indeed!

Not big on djent, but you got a good sound here. Doom filled chugs and clean dissonance. Sounds like a beast conveying it's displeasure with all around it. I can't fault anything here, just not my thing. Very evil, but I like aggression in my evilsoup. Production is awesome and sounds like there is a lot of money behind it in studio time. Rather well done!!!

Hey Evan, I hope I haven't scared everybody off with my last few uploads. They are somewhat dark and evil sounding which is of course the result of such low resonance. And for that reason its easier to compose these type of tracks. I'm working on some more melodic stuff and hopefully will have something a bit more appealing next time. Thanks for the comments man, always appreciated.

Nebulous greetings, NeoMeshuggin'Bro.

I'm not a fan of Meshuggah (just too heavy and lacking in melody for me) but I think about them fairly often as I have Tomas Haake's Metalheads EZX and use it quite often, not only in heavy tracks. I used some of Haake's MIDI files for some of the "criminally insane" drumming that you liked in my Fist Bumps Of Fury track (especially early in the track).

I'm really, really bad with time signatures so I don't really know what 23/16 time is. But I do know I get something quite distinctive from his crazy MIDI files. Most of them are banging away on cymbals so not a lot of hat work.

Anyway:

0:10 that's quite a cool little industrial flourish and I like the slightly vocally drone synth underneath, changing note on 0:28.

0:15 and here's that heavy djent thud and overall fat sound. This already sounds well produced, as does all your stuff these days, I believe.

This does sound like there's some evil, clanging, octave-jumping bass guitar in it. I guess that's all just guitar. But it is a detuned 8 string so that makes sense.

1:19 and that lead guitar is a welcome addition as sitting on that thudding djent riff was getting a bit samey.

3:02 fuck that's dark and evil. Really wide guitars.

3:16 like an ogre groaning. Or metal vocalist grunting away.

The lead work on top here makes it more far out and psychedelic. In a dark, unsettling way.

This second half seems more powerful than the first.

As I said, Meshuggah isn't my kind of sound so I can't really love this track but the guitar work is very good - well played and produced.

4:48 reverse flourish at the end is a nice touch.

Hey Static, I figured you wouldn't be too enthusiastic about this track. I recall you aren't a fan of Meshuggah. I admit its a fairly brutal track sonically, as is most of their music. I guess I like the powerful nature of it. One thing about Djent, specifically with 8 string guitar is the inability of playing power chords. They sound terrible with the low tuning. Most of the melody here is basically a bass line. I had some difficulty with EQ and getting some things sounding right. Evan mentioned in my last track that the cymbals were washing out and again I'm noticing it. I used a couple tracks of heavy ride in here in places. For some strange reason it sounds ok on my computer but when I upload tracks the Looperman version has dramatically effected the dynamics. Not sure whats going on with that.

Anyhow, thanks for the listen and comments bro. Maybe my next track will be more to your liking.

Osh, tasty. I'm loving the tone of the guitar, low slow and sludgy, my kind of of metal.

I hope you can find a singer to complete this, I think it has huge potential.

I'm inspired to make some sludge now, keep it up brother.
Neomorpheus
Neomorpheus replied 18th Dec 2016 - 8 years ago
Hey Metabolic, There's so much bottom on these guitars it does require a bit of trial and error to get a decent sound tonewise. I'm working with a Fractal Audio Axe FX II and Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. Set relatively high on gain for drive and distortion levels, lots of midrange, a healthy amount of treble for clarity. This is more Progressive Metal Djent than Sludge though. Thanks for the comment bro.

Hi Dan, I guess it is a bit stoner-ish but I'm not so sure I would want to get lost in here. Kind of a dark and foreboding track that tends to suggest there is something scary in the far reaches of outer space or within the dark corners of our minds.

Hey danke, yeah Tomas Haake is a phenominal drummer. His ability and contribution is so critical to the characteristics such as polymetered riff cycles, rhythmic syncopation, rapid key and tempo changes that define their sound. Haake is known for his cross-rhythm drumming. One particular example of his use of polymeter is 4/4 against 23/16 bimeter, in which he keeps the hi-hat and ride cymbal in 4/4 time but uses the snare and double bass drums in 23/16 time.

Thanks for the listen and comments bro.

How do you even describe this? I guess you can say 4 mins of "holy fuck where am I?" Loved it! I would like it more if you had a sine wave really deep down there, sliding along to add a heavy sub bass. That would take this to a new level... thanks for this piece!

Neo.

Dude.

Seriously, man. This track spoke to me. It's the perfect amount of psych, space, and melody. It's droning sub, the slow movements. Your use of atmospheric synths are impeccable. They are placed so well, that you don't really notice all of them. But if you were to take them out, you would definitely miss them. It's super wide open, spaciously speaking. It's nice and mysterious. To me, it's like what I imagine being adrift in space without a ship is like. But, not one of those Major Tom mishap drifts. The kind you'd take if you could, just to be completely isolated from everything, while being totally at one with it all.

I had to download this. Funny thing is, it's over 4 minutes long, but it could easily be another 4.

Highest praises from ValveHalla on this one brother!

Take care.

Hey Aaron, great to hear from you man !!!!!!

I'll tell you there has to be mysterious powers at work here because when I was posting this track I thought damn I wish my bro Aaron would pop back on here soon ! Its been a while dude, hope things are going well for you. Certainly glad to hear you like this. I kind of fell into a bit of a retro rut recently and found myself working on music that although it was cool, just wasn't what I really wanted to be doing. So I have abandoned a lot of tracks and material that I had spent months languishing with and hopefully this one will lead me in a more positive direction. As a matter of fact I intended to work this into more of a song with rhythm and drums but was having a bit of trouble getting something I felt did it justice and retained that mysterious/Other worldly vibe.

I'm super excited to see you back on the board bro. Would love nothing more than to see a new track from you sometime. Anyhow you certainly brightened up my day by popping in on this one. I humbly accept and highly regard all praises from ValveHalla !!!

Take it Sloe brother.

Primordial yos, AmbientNeoBro.

Do the Gods like music? I don't know. I ask them every night in my prayers (all of them, it takes ages) and not one has ever replied. Bastards.

This is some nice, chilled, mysterious and mystical stuff. First guitar part is good though maybe a bit too trebley. Very minor complaint. Nice warm sub bass underneath. It's already really far out. Just what I like.

1:32 it gets dirtier. 1:41 nice, screechy bend. This has a fairly epic space rock feel. But without drums.

Is there a bit of clipping on the track, perhaps from the guitar? I seem to hear an unwanted crunch in my left ear.

Guitar gets darker and a bit more Eastern towards the end. The kind of thing I probably would have done. Very nice final floaty, synthy ending. A welcome break from the guitar as that large bass synth fades out. Excellent long fade!

Maybe the music video could be you floating in space playing loads of lead guitar as planets and meteors hurtle past you. And then you end up arriving at the God Planet, where they all live, and you ask your important question: "So, do you guys like music?" "Yeah, it's OK", they say. "Well, thanks for that deep insight, guys, you have inspired me with your wisdom", you reply before shooting off back to Earth at warp speed.

Suitably inspired by their profound answer, you quickly write the deep ambient sequel to this track: Genius Gods.

Hey bro, so yeah this track was really an experimental thing for me in many ways. I wanted to see if I could break away from my recent blues / stoner mode and create something a little more progressive, using influences from bands like Mastodon, Dream Theatre, Tesseract etc., that produce some really far out heavy shit combined with some extremely divergent chording and beautiful melodies. I did discover some clipping in the mix and thought I had taken care of it all but I guess not. I will have to give it another once over and see if I can discover what and where I missed and clean it up. What do you think of the last section? I was very much thinking of some of your tracks when laying this out and purposely worked in a bit of the Eastern vibe. I may have over drove it a bit there but man I just really dug it at the time. I like the idea you had on the video, and the sequel track. Might give it some thought. Thanks for the comments man, always a treat .

Your versatility is showing again Neo...and I have a smile of satisfaction of my face when I hear an guitarist/artist use the instrument to create the atmosphere with the restrained kind of melody lines that convey the feeling/mind picture rather than demo speed on scales etc (as many do)...love that big fat kind of dark pad that introduces the track...nice patient build (a la Pink Floyd)...very cool smooth singy tone on the guitar...its a fairly minimal mix..where the instrumentation carries the rhythm with the need for anything else....This is really well and thoughtfully done man...fab job...fav from this ol guy....Ed
Neomorpheus
Neomorpheus replied 5th Nov 2016 - 9 years ago
Ambient music is great in how it allows us to create that mind picture as you put it Ed. Yeah as a guitarist its always fascinating as to what can be done with the instrument, and in particular just with notes. Used drop C tuning here and just 3 chords - D flat minor, Sus 2 on the A string and an A caged major, and just basically picked on the roots. The last section was done by coil tapping the rear pickup with one hand while one finger sliding out the notes on the fret board. All the keys were done in FL Studio using the Sytrus VST. Synth bass track also created with FL Studios' GMS (Groove Machine Synth) with some heavy boosted frequency modulation FX.

Its always great to hear your views Ed, thanks for listen and comments my friend.

Thank you danke for your high praise. It is most appreciated. I hear and relate to your reference to aging and concerns for our children. I am right there with you. Each day I become more aware of my mortality and cringe at the image I see deteriorating in my mirror. But it cant be reversed. Thankfully I am not a grandfather yet but my son will turn 18 on his next birthday. Anyhow, we can only at this point decide to accept our fates and be thankful for our blessings. For me I only hope that something I do in this life serves a purpose and as insignificant as is, somehow makes a favorable difference. By the way, Morpheus in Greek mythology was the God of dreams.

Dang, this sounds awesome and chunky as heck! I love it. It's just missing some awesome rock vocals, though being a singer I want to add vocals to everything :) The guitar tells a story all it's own. The shaker was a bit of a shock as it was too loud, but that is definitely an easy fix. Beautiful stuff, that bassline from SupaFreakShow really took this to a new level! This is by far the best rock song on LM I've heard to-date.

I'm only sorry I didn't come here SOONER. This is pro-level stuff.

Hats off to you, my good Neomorpheus!

Well, yes I agree that pretty much all songs are improved with vocals because of the added dimension and the meaning or message that is conveyed. I wish I was more brave or less particular about it and than I would maybe chance doing some. Haha, such is the plight with many of us here I think. I would welcome you, since you are a singer to add some if you like. Yes I also agree that SupaFreakShows bass really added some major kick to the track. I was really blown away by his gesture to do that, but it is a testament to the awesomeness of this community and its members. Looperman is damn kick ass, for lack of better words! I could share ghost, paranormal stories, experiences with you for hours!! Makes you question your own sanity. Did I really see that? Just accept there's phenomenon we will never explain. You actually wouldn't believe all the people that have similar stories. I love that you investigated it afterwards. Ghost, they say, cannot physically harm you so nothing to be afraid of, hahahaha easier said than done! One night I was working late, alone as always, at my town hall maintenance job when I heard footsteps upstairs in the police department. Of course I went up to check it out. Too bad the cop on duty was parked up the road a few blocks watching traffic! I know that because after I realized there was no one there and the footsteps continued I got the hell out of there.Yes, I had to come back for more :p Loving the western frontier spanish outlaw flavor this has. I can picture El Muerto roaming the desert with arrows sticking out of his mummified headless corpse, tattered ragged filthy clothing flapping as the black stallion gallops along. DId it work? Did the banditos get the message? Vlad Tepes (the real Dracula) once turned back a 100,000 strong Turkish army with 30,000 impaled turkish prisoners. They got the message quite clearly 3:D> More plz!! \m/ \m/ Time to watch a western. If it makes you feel any better I once saw a colonial woman float across my front lawn (where I still live) ;) She was like a hologram, but clear as day! Indians roamed this area at that time and there's a place not far away where there's a legend 2 guys were running from the Indians when they killed one and he's buried next to the stream at a rest stop called Snow Falls. There's also a Wal mart just up the road, supposedly built on an old indian burial ground. Enough rambling, western movie time.

Hola, hermano muerto.

There's some pretty impressive guit fiddlin' here.

Nice Spanish intro. I have no idea why I never end up playing Spanish stuff but I just don't (eastern comes out quite easily).

There's a bit of Nothing Else Matters in that chord around 0:16.

Then drums and bass enter plus dirtier guitar, playing some quite melodic, slightly dark stuff.

Drums sound much better than in other tracks of yours. Why is that?

1:06 you kick into a cooler drum groove and then things get a bit crazier, in terms of riffage and busy drumming.

1:27 a little reverse cymbal, I suspect.

1:57 I like it here when things come down and we hear more of the chug of the bass g.

2:45 a return to your dark rock intro.

3:03-3:12 low end bass really stands out.

3:18 fuck me that gave me a nasty shock! That percussive shakery thing is way too loud. Good but too shocking for me.

4:06 a wah solo begins. Decent but not spectacular.

4:35 good drum fills.

4:59 that's a fuckin mental laughing scream. Would be cool to have got that in earlier. Nice panning on it.

And an abrupt ending that feels just right.

Good stuff!

El Statico, I thought you might like the guitarone on this, especially my leetle acoustic intro. Now that you mentioned Metallica I do hear the similarity. Just a coincidence. Drums sound better because they are real drums. No Toontracking on this one. But I haven't used the programmed drums in quite awhile. I'm learning from you bro, you do very little programmed drums am I correct?

So the Vibra slap reached out and slapped you huh, haha, wish I coulda been there to see you jump! I actually backed off the volume a bit for you my friend, you were right it was a bit over the top. Hey, que le gusta mucho este grito - you like my Grito Mexicano, the scream as you call it? Its all me ese, another ear shock to my subdued English friend no doubt. Haha, forgive me I'm laughing with you not at you bro. I know this track is different but I know you of all Loopers can appreciate different. Hey your last line is the seal of approval for me bro. Thanks.
