hi again SeriouslyJoking,
I think my approach to music is quite different at least at the moment... I use a lot of EQ and effects only to enhance/get rid of some frequences... But I really like the raw and basic sounds... I am currently working on some acoustic track with voice and piano and am aware that it could be easily 'overproducing'... It's really hard to give some useful advices on your song. It depends on you and how you will progress with all that ... meaning the less of effects added the more realistic and natural sound you get... I hope.
Alex
I'm not really sure what I'm going for with this particular song, I'm actually also working on an other song at the moment and trying to learn all sorts of things to make that song sound the best it can and this one popped out from that Project, as I tried to create sweeping pads with the 3xosc (and failed miserably as you can hear - no sweeping sounds at all).
I'm with you there when it comes to preferring raw and natural sounds really but it's not suited in all musical styles I guess.
Looking forward to hearing that new acoustic song of yours!
/ SJ =)
Simplicity at its best, stunning track, would not have guess it was Mhyst vocals, guessing you changed pitch/key, whatever you did it sounds brilliant, brilliant clarity of the mix, this sounds like it could be on the radio, extremely impressive track...one of my all time fav of yours so far...Fav...Peace n Respect...Mosaic...
No didn't change the pitch on Mhysts vocal but I layered it a couple of times - 3 times actually - to get a fuller sound and applied a flanger effect on one of them which is hardly noticeabel but gives a little edge to it (thank you Youtube-tutorial!!! =D) So maybe that's what You are hearing?
Although I messed it up a little by not checking that all the layers were sitting exactly the same way on top of each other so it's sounding a bit uneven at times...oh - I EQ'd the vocal also, just learned how to do that in a better way.
Well anyway - thanks for listening. Really sweet of you to think it could almost be on the radio! Haha. It's the great vocal that does it, so I'll pass that one compliment over to Mhyst.
hi, really nice one. at some point it reminds me of a cheap 8bit tune. its because of the simplicity of the synth you use.
but still great: pads, pianos, some plucked instrument even, bassline - all sound quite similar... I really like your work.
I think you could also turn the drums louder. Overall really nice piece. Congrats,
Alex
Hello Alex!
Noted and agreed about the drum volume.
About the 8bit chip tune sound - yes I tried to keep it very simple and not add much reverb at all (which i always overdose).
Also tried to follow the drum line with all the synths so had to keep the sounds kind of dry. But I think I compressed some of the sounds too much, the song is sounding VERY flat. Have to get some of the dynamics back if I redo this some day.
Thanks for listening!
Nice to see you around again and it's good to know you're still making some music and furthermore improving your skills on things you mentioned...
This one reminds me incredibly on Bronski Beat style regardless of female vocals....anyways, you did a good job again so take some sincere compliments from
Tjenixen Orlando!
I just finished listening to your song and everything is sounding really flat, dead and undynamic in comparison. :D
Had to check out Bronski Beat - I loved those songs! Not sure where the similarity is or if there is one but I take it as a great compliment anyway! Thanks.
The circle of 5ths? Have to remember that.
Thanks for listening, Steve.
I'm of course hearing a lot of errors after uploading, the vocal doesn't sit very well and I think I compressed away all the dynamics...well it's all just a learning process.
Massive work here, EXCELLENT use of the vocals in this remix, agree with some of the other comments, since listening to your works, you have a long way, with saying that I enjoyed the earlier works that I have reviewed, but this one seems to have reached another level...Impressive dance tune...Big time fav...Peace n much Respect...Mosaic...
Hi Mosaic!
Thanks for listening - this song has bugged me for the longest time! I like it a lot but there is so many flaws in it that I'm aware of now but didn't hear then(I made this almost a year ago) and there is never enough time nor energy to go back and do a proper remake...
The vocals are the star of the song.
I Think I've lost some of that wild creativity I still had when I made this song but maybe I can come back to it some day when I learned a lot more about Music producing and am able to just relax and compose without thinking so hard about the theoretical side of "how it should sound" .
hi again, yes this sounds quite different this morning...haha.
I am just curious what would happen if you only remove some phased effect... I do not know if it is just some effect added to the drums or it is actually a phased pad... The lack of energy is because the drums sounds too far. But anyway Im enjoying the work you did - really cool piano added at the end!
Nice Sunday to you,
A
Hi again - you are my hero right now listening to all these crappy versions of the same songs! Thanks so much for taking your time to do that. It's really helpful.
I've been listening to breakbeat based music just now to refresh my memory of how it really sounds and I Think you are on to something - the drum line should be more prominent and kind of dry and there should also be more bass specificly tied to the rhythm.
I'm not sure this song is suited to sound like that because of the heavy reverb and all the automation in the drum line wich creates those phased sounds (I also used this flanger-effect on the drums and that's probably what you are referring too). But I'll give it a try!
I Think I'll try to give the vocal a rework too, it's so very lame like this.
hi, very nice work so far. Maybe it's just me but drums have some very long (too long!)reverb. I think the song will sound better and more energetic without all the processing you've used on them... Somehow the bassline is not clear as well... and all that affect the entire mix. More wavy-chillout than breakbeat (for me:)) so far. So I just suggest you maybe to find some better sound again... if you will be reworking it eventually...
But I like it and this is some really good production overall.
A.
Hi!
Sorry you had to listen to the first version - it was quite terrible!!
It's a litte better this way I hope - the reverb on the drums is still there but I took away an EQ from the master channel and rearranged and added some percussion and other stuff.
It's not there yet though, still too muddy. I also agree about the lacking energy part - have to find out how to fix that.
Thanks for listening!
I like this one SJ....Yes I think you should develop the drums ...the bass is good.....strange as it may seem I often find that layering in a hip- hop or R&B drum loop or 2 in some parts with the main percussion works..nice airy pads..keep it going...sounds good...Ed
Hi Ed!
I just remixed this and added some things, drums and also some FL "piano". I had an EQ on the master channel which ruined the sound in the first version so I took it away but it's still not punchy and clear enough so have to look in to that later.
Layering (different) drums almost always makes things better! Or, well, often anyway.
Thanks for stopping by and take care!!
Cheers/ SJ =)
Hi there Maff - great to see you here!
Keep it going for 6 more minutes? Haha I'll see what I can do about that. I'm slowly - very slowly - working on a prolonged version of this but I'm not in the music making mood really right now so it's going to take a while.
But thanks for the feedback!
For someone who doesn't smoke, this one sounds like you were smoking. Completely trippy. The bassline is pretty proper sounding too. Great work SJ. I deleted my other track so I'm returning the care face. ;) There, that's all you get. I did that one before too. You have now depleted your careface usage from member Gramo Chopin. Please don't complain in the response after the peace. Downloading and faved, peace (lol)

I checked that acapella SJ...and you definitely picked the right part of it to feature in this mix...this is really nicely done...the minimalist accompaniment works great and you have done a lot of thinking in the way you developed the composition....You keep getting better every time I stop by for a listen....bravo....keep on doing it.....Ed
Hi Ed!
Yes this is very minimalistic, not at all my style really - I tend to throw in a lot of melodies in everything where as here it's really simple, almost just the vocal snippet that does the whole job.
hi Seriously Joking:)
I really like what you did with the song:) The last part is the best - piano and bass you added fill up all the space in the song. The pad you have used sounds just great for me! I am feeling a very nice vibes at 1:52. Great work with the piano and bassline. Especially I like it at 2:14:). Those two elements appear at the end of the song without any continuation - it makes me somehow wanting to hear them again developed or just repetead. But maybe it's just me:) I suggest that you could only experiment again and try to re-arrange the elements of the song:) But I like the way it is now and that's fine if you will leave it at this point which sounds very nice:)
The sound you created is very chill and I am enjoying this a lot feeling like diving into it. Really nice work and simply cool chillout track!
A.
Cool!!
Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking about making the track a Little longer but it'll have to wait, I'm at work all day tomorrow.
But I Think you are on to something there with the bass and piano.
LOL you don't know how much your comment response made me smile. (I read this while I was at work too) I still won't type any faces though, I just don't do all that. (Often at least)
I've actually thought about being a writer of some sort before. I used to write alot of poetry and lyrics over the years. But I don't do that as much as opposed to what I type on the net or where ever else. (Music pages, youtube etc) Not facebook anymore, I'm tired of facebook. You find out who your friends are and whose merely there for some attention or because they want something. Don't get me wrong, everyone loves a lil attention and company and what not.
But when I want my "space" for example, (key word) everyone can just f off to put it bluntly. People are CONSTANTLY updating the newsfeed with mundane unimportant events. Anyways, sorry there's more to it than that but your not my shrink or anything lol
And yea I was high, why not? Non smoker huh? That's cool, it's definitely not for everyone though. Just do what comes naturally to you
Anyhow - you should write more.
I'm kind of the same when it comes to Facebook, it's fun for a while and then I just couldn't care less.
So now I need my space - careface!
Nice Filtered Intro. Synths Remind me a bit of Moments in Love from The Art of Noise...back in the day. I almost feel the vocal line comes in a micro second too soon in some phrases. The reformulated bass piano sound at 1:45 is nice and counterpoints nicely with the melody. Over all a pleasant listening experience.
Nice work.
Steve
Steve - hello!
About the vocal coming in a bit late - yes I Think I can hear that too. I wanted it to come in a tiny bit late for the most time and synced the other times to give it that laid back vibe but now when you mention it, maybe you are right - it should come in late every time to not loose the rhythm. Even for a microsecond.
Thanks for listening!
Dream like vibes, those drums are set at a smooth pace. Calms me down. Nice snippet so far SJ, I don't use FL much. How is it for you? Some of the layout is a lil bit of a mess for me but I guess it depends on the individual workflow of a producer/artist. I've used it but it's just not my forte, my current preferred is using Reason with Logic in unison. !!!-Okay I didn't notice that until just now..reason...and logic. I'm sorry that just surprised me because I really didn't notice that until now. Makes sense now, ha. Nice work once again SJ, peace
Hi Gramo - first of all: I DO like your Gramo Style trap, I've figured it out now. =D
Secondly: I only use FL, mainly because that's what I have at the moment but I'm dreaming about learning and using the other DAW's. Reason is a bit hard for a newbeginner to figure out (or was it Logic? Or both??) but YES whenever I get the chance (a new computer for starters) I'll get in to those and what not. There is a huge difference in the sound quality, I know that.
Thirdly: Are you high or something??! =D Reason...logic...
It's fun to read your reviews, I go around reading them on other peoples tracks too just because it's like a diary from your life. It's interesting! And amusing a lot of times. You should consider becoming a writer, if you already aren't one. I'm not joking!
Nice track...Lots of room to move in many directions, little short aaaah
