Fantastic work indeed. truly an epic sized track. I loved it.

I have at least 675 original written pieces and currently I am working out the beats for two or three of them. I have been wanting to do a Rap/Horrorcore Sort of sound to a heavy Metal instrumental.
I have a piece in particular called Dangerous Gentleman.

Its about an apex predator from another planet that came to Earth for his end of times and ultimately his death. But hes not quite dead yet...as someone wil soon see for themselves..
The story, would work out really well. I mean its dark, its mean, its raw...Its a little funny, ..a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll.. lol.

The last two are bullshit..I was channeling DonnyandMarie..lol. Thats probably a deal breaker!
I wont screech yell roar the lyrics myself with my voice onto the track...But i have someone in mind hes fantastic. Unless you have a band and maybe you have a throat in mind.

My name is Brad B...I go by InsipidB.
I see that your keeping tight control of this track with no downloading...and I think thats very smart because it is fantastic..But could you, would you want to loosen the chains so that we could collaborate on this one. This lyric i wrote I believe is pretty damn good and about 6 mins long as well. If you feel apprehensive as a show of good faith i can send you my piece, but like you I would like to retain rights to it. In the event your curious to hear them together than I am down MAN! I would mule in drugs over the boarder in my arse to persuade you to agree to this Merging of Mind and Music. I have no great aspirations in music except to one day hear one of my written pieces on the radio.

SO I can talk to my friend about laying down a track...We can do it anyway you want...any site you choose. I have accounts here, SOundCloud and Smule...Sing! App.
I also run Audacity and im learning LMMS software as well.

Well forgive me for such a long text. I just heard it and started rapping to it and i felt like yeah this is a good pairing.
Hope your well, Thanks for the tune..I hope to hear from you. InsipidB

InsipidB. Hello. First, my apologoies for the delayed reply. I'm very busy these days.

I appteciate the fact that this track inspired you so heavily. The project you have in mind sounds pretty creative and fun. But, this track is finished, and not up for collaboration. As it's part of a very personal trilogy. However, I'm not opposed to creating a new piece custom to your project. If you'd like to send me the vocal track, I can buold around it with a few different ideas to see if its something you'd want to continue with. Just get ahold of me through the site here.

Thank you for the kind words.

Let's drink 389 glasses of whiskey once to die...then I'm going to go with you with the 2-bed detoxication after this song ...one of my favourite metal style is the doom (start from Sabbath of course...)
that opening bass is sharp as knife...later those heavy guitars are like tones of bricks...
METAL OPUS, we can say but under there were many glamorous and generous guys to tell you properly what we feel about this track...

hugh work Aaron, thanx for the upload, handshake with the fav of course, Danke

I saw where Tumbleweed commented on this track and I figured if HE had good things to say about it, it would be worth a couple of swigs of ginger ale while I stayed put to listen to it. It was heavy alright, my desktop whined a bit. It was very busy yet you didn't have anything stepping on anything else (like what nags at me when I make a track). I would ever be able to sit still long enough to spend 389 hours on one tune. My threshold for being ready to wind down comes a lot sooner than a year/year and a half. I was intrigued by how much you seamlessly feathered these many instruments together like a genuine band. Sometimes I find some wicked loops that mes together like peanut butter & jelly and it makes me feel so good when people don't realize that I'm using loops and compliment me on my guitar playing! You have mastered the art of looping and knob-fiddling very well. Kudos, vic
ValveDriver
ValveDriver replied 7th May 2018 - 7 years ago
Vigwig, how are you? Thanks for stopping by. Even if it was inspired by Tumbleweed.

Typically, I don't spend that much time on one track. But, like Neomorpheus said, I am a perfectionist. Getting my loops to mesh together took a lot of working and reworking. I would come up with a great riff, but then would have to rework it to get the flow right with the one before or after it. A lot of times it was just one note sounding off. Whether it was in the wrong place kn the scale, or too much or too little sustain. Palm mute or open. There were a lot of obstacles in thatvsense. Then, much like Staticnomad said, there was a lot of fiddling about with settings. I had a hell of a time getting my mix right. So, between being a perfectionist, and stubborn as hell, it took a long time, and I wasnt going to let it beat me. Kind of fitting really. Considering the meaning of this track.

Thanks again for the kind words, I hope all is well with you.

Take care.

Man....I hardly know what to say about this...if you didn`t say otherwise I would just accept the guitars as a performance by a mighty talented metal group...I can`t imagine the time, effort and talent you put into this Aaron...but the results are evidence....just a superb example of a metal composition, arranged, performed and delivered so well that even a mellow old guitar dude like me has to stand up and say BRAVO.......Ed

Ed, good to hear from you.

I definitely put a lot of time into this one. There were a lot of riffs that got cut and reformed. This was one of those tracks thatvwas nothing but trouble for the longest time. But, Iwasn't about to let it win! I'm too stubborn to let that happen.
Like I told Eric, it always means a lot when talented musicians like yourself compliment my work. It keeps me wanting to not only do more, but constantly improve. So, with that being said, thank you!

Yes the Metal Gods are without a doubt much appeased with this offering ! The much anticipated third and final installment of the Overmyth trilogy.

Sup Aaron !

Damn bro I'm almost inclined to dub you the George Lucas of Metal. Waiting for your tracks is a bit like waiting on George to bestow another movie on his aging fandome! (haha) jk man !!

Hey I know your a bit of a perfectionist for one and also this virtual guitar playing gig is no easy task if your trying to get realistic results. I'm really impressed with what you have been able to do with Shreddage. I still haven't mustered up enough patience for a serious attempt to use it. I think its cool as hell and definitely has more than enough capability to deliver some fabulous metal guitar as you have proven here. Are you using Revolver for amp sim? Just curious of your cab choices and effects chain set up. Love the thick tone and very creamy fuzz/distortion. After a couple of listens to just enjoy the music I started some closer examination and first off noted your combinations of sustains and palm mutes for the rhythms. Got to ish some props. The velocities and chord thresholds are well set up. Very realistic sounding man. The more I listen to it the more impressed I get. The bass and drum sections are very well done too and I'm particularly happy that you maintained your self control to keep it from being overly programmed with too much speed drumming. In fact the drums are so good they can pass for the real thing. If you programmed everything yourself that's a pretty amazing job. Many wont realize the effort required in syncing the drums and bass with the guitar chops which is a staple element for this type of music. Composition and structure wise its pretty solid and true to form Doom Metal. The intro is perfect and does the job to create the right atmosphere and some real nice sinister notes with heavy reverb combines with the bass and drums to usher in the opening melody. This is almost cinematic, which you do very well and is a bit of ValveDriver trademark. That big wall of sound you create, as StaticNomad ponted out, is awesome and really adds a lot of depth and power to the mix. Oh yeah! I love those power chords man! Some really nice breakdowns there and those riff unisons are SWEEEEET ! Yeah I was waiting for a tempo change and got my wish at 4:48, nice !! Aww, those power chugs and then the big break, love that. Good outtro section too. Dude you nailed this bitch. I dig every inch of it. As always I'm super stoked to see you back on the board with another track release. I like the direction you've taken with the addition of virtual guitar. You've certainly opened up a whole new realm of possibilities for your music. Good stuff my friend. Keep it coming.

later.

Well, it's another delayed reply, but here we go!!

Being compared to George Lucas isn't a bad thing! Lord knows, if Disney ever wanted to buy my work, I wouldn't hesitate either!

"Are you using Revolver for amp sim?"

No sir. I am not. A few years ago I picked up a real life guitar with every intention of learning it. So, with it, I bought a Pod Farm interface that has a ton of amp sims, cabs, and effect pedals.
I used what I believe is supposed to be the eqivalent of a Marshall. That alone has a pretty decent distortion with the gain knob. Then I just tweaked the bass, treble and mids in the preamp to kind of make it pop. I have two guitar tracks panned out to 70% on each side, then each linked to the same master track, where I put a little compression and some more fine tuning with a parametric EQ, Since the bass guitar played such a dominant role in the sound of this tune, I cut a lot of the low end off the guitars, trying to blend the low end guitar frequencies into the high end bass frequencies. Hoping that there wouldnt be too many trying to overstep, and essentially, evenly covering all across the board.

The sustained and palm muted riffs. What little I can play on the guitar, is just that. That has always been my favorite way of playing.

"Too much speed drumming"

Thats easy for a lot of people to do. I've always loved metal. But when guys just sit there doing nothing but double kicks, blast beats, and ridiculous fills, it gets a little boring. I think there's a time for that, but it certainly isnt the entire song. I like some good rythm in those beats.

I did program everything myself. Including processing each piece to get the exact sound I wanted. Then placing each hit exactly where it needs to be. A very tedious process, but also very cathartic. Lol.

I was just talkinng to my lady the other night about how I think my "electro" days are behind me. I've moved into a new chapter of life, and the metal side is where I need to be now. So, I am definitely exploring that new realm of possibilities.

Thank you for this awesome review, man. As someone who doesn't use live instruments to create music, it's always encouraging to hear such positive feedback from you guys who do.

Thanks again, Eric. Totally appreciate it, man.

Take care.

389 badass greetings, Mr ValveShredder.

This is some proper, badass shit and remarkable use of Shreddage. Guitarists - who needs them?

Pretty decent trippy little intro and then at 0:17 the drummer's bell ride opens a dark switch and apocalyptic noise rushes in. Then some solid bass and drums.

0:52 awesome wailin' g! It's noises like that that make me want to start playing guitar again.

1:49 chunky chords are riffin' the place up and everytyhing is sitting nicely.

2:33 some mean, bassy doom. Plus a bit more wailing, psychedelic guitar a little later, which is probably a bit low in the mix. Damn, this is so much like a live band. All the more so because you're not doing what I do and layering different drum kits (plus loops). So it sounds like one drummer at one kit.

Real nice, wide sound on this. Surely one of your best produced tracks. 1 hour of composing, 388 hours of fiddling about with settings.

5:22 I like that machine gun variation. These are powerful, proper doom riffage sections.

Perhaps this is a bit long. It's not the running time that's the issue but the similarity of sounds. Would totally make sense live and be just about the right length.

So, no real criticisms from me. Except I guess you could have used some different guitar tones/added FX in the second half, just to keep things progressing. A minor criticism - more of an idea, really.

Big congrats on this proper doom track.

Overmyth is over? Surely not. I was looking forward to part 124. Oh well, all good things have to come to an end.

Take care...

Mr. Nomad. Take off your Rhinestone shades so you can read this reply.

"awesome wailin' g! It's noises like that that make me want to start playing guitar again."

Do it!

"...which is probably a bit low in the mix."

I agree. Someday, I'll go back and fix that.

" it sounds like one drummer at one kit."

I figure that's how they do it live, so in order to get the most realistic sound I can, I'd better follow suit.

"Real nice, wide sound on this. Surely one of your best produced tracks. 1 hour of composing, 388 hours of fiddling about with settings"
Thanks, man! That's pretty close ro how it was, too.

Yeah, there wasn't a whole lot of variation in sounds. But by the time I got to about hour 350, I was kind of done with trying to be creative. I just wanted to finish it. However, I'm taking the suggestion with me to the next track. Which I've started. So, about 375 hours over the course of a year and a half from now, I'll post it.

Until then, take care, man.

Ed! How are you, mister?

Technology can sometimes be a real pain, can’t it?

I’m not really one to categorize into genres either. I figure, if it’s good it’s good. It doesn’t have to be confined.

This was one of those “winter tunes”. I generally get a little darker and (no pun intended) chilier with my music in the winter time.

I think that part right around the 3 minute mark would be categorized by most as dubstep. I just call it some fun with synths, and splicing.

Anyhow, I hope all is well. Hopefully you guys are starting to see signs of springtime life up there.

Take care, Ed. As always, it’s good to hear from you.

Aaron, just noticed the new track and damn I'm here at work. I gave it a quick precursory listen using my ear buds because I wouldn't be able to get any work done thinking about it otherwise !! I really dig the heavy use of the high frequency sounds, very cool stuff ! That combined with the deep ryhthms and bass lines (should I say Dubstep elements?) really make for a uniquely interesting contrast. I have never heard anything like this before so yeah I especially dig this approach man. The overall vibe here seems like you have revisited early ValveDriver, which is really exciting. I definitely will be giving this a few more spins later this evening bro.

Anyhow, I’m glad you liked this one. It’s not real high on my list of favorites of mine, but I dig it. It was kind of the track that got me back into working new tunes. I kind of fell out for awhile.

I finally finished the last track of my Overmyth trilogy, it’s a doom metal-ish thing that, to me, is slow low and heavy. Keep an eye out for it in the next couple days.

Hi Aaron...long time no see..:),

I hope there will be no exaggeration if I say this is quintessential
ValveDriver trademark work. It brings together all important elements
that your unique progressive style is known for. Dark tone and everpresent tension work convincing as ever. The instrumentation choices are absolutely in place and I must say the synth work is fabulous and production shines !

Those exquisite 7 minutes were over in a flash...BRAVO !

Orlando. How are you? I find it interesting that you mentioned the dark tones and everpresent tension along with the progression. The signature Valvedriver sound, if you will. I find it interesting, because much like my work, yours has a signature sound as well. Of course, yours is much lighter, and generally a more positive feeling, however. It all seems to have just a touch of hidden....melancholy (we’ll go with that word.) lying just below the surface. Not to mention, your skill at composition and instrumentation far surpasses my own abilities.

None the less, it’s always good to hear from you. Much like with Ed, I consider it a treat.

Damn you, Mr V, and your damned dreams. You've probably been dreaming of this review so here it is:

A fading in distant, buzzy synth and then that trippy glassy lead is perhaps a little too loud and/or shrill. Kind of toy-like sound.

Trappy/dubsteppy drums enter and I know some fat bass is coming.

1:31 gets dubsteppier plus probably some Shreddage squealing there. Or maybe not. This is fairly unsettling, eerie stuff.

2:37 another break. I'd actually consider removing 1:31-2:27 and just going from 1:31 to the fatter, bassier section on 2:52. That's when things really come alive.

Another, windy, swiriling break and the drums return doing a bit more dubstep, wobbling madness.

4:00-4:03 that's actually a bit jazzy. I'd loop that section up and try to build something even jazzier out of it. The contrast with the dubstep could work really nicely.

5:40 by the time it's got here, the track seems to have had too many drumless breaks and it's a bit too predictable and plotted out that you're going to return with fatness. Just get rid of 5:40-5:56.

This is some good, solid, eerie shit but it didn't hit any particular high points for me. The structure was a bit too predictable and I wanted to hear some new and more varied sounds being introduced. All the same, it is quite nicely eerie and dark sci fi and the heaviest dubstep bits would well on a fucked up late night dancefloor.

Static DamnMad, dreaming of driven valves.
