So dark and worrying! What's down the road around the corner in this darknessssss? You must have one hell of a collection of that stuff by now Phatz. Top sound from a very creative man.

18 cigar box guitars (well, cookie and various tins too) here right now, that's not including the ones I've given away and 2 in a local flea market for sale :D Thanks Silverman, this one is my fav's, such incredible sound out of it! I guess we'll just have to venture into the darkness to see what lies beyond, what's the worst that could happen? I do have quite the collection of dark tracks as well with more on the way for halloween. Coming across some older incomplete ones I'm trying to finish up, if they're worth finishing.

This one is an electric, I used a pick up out of my Ibanez Gio, it got a new one, but on most I use a piezo pick up (contact mic) so they're wired just like a regular electric guitar. I've made a few acoustics but prefer adding the electonics for the option of recording without a mic. You'll get sound acoustically, the bigger the box the louder it will be. I play through an audio interface into my computer to record. The fx used here are Guitar rig 5 - blues git 74 and soundtoys - Crystaline. I see alot of stuff they make in africa out of soda bottles, soup cans and stuff :p Amazing the instruments that can be made out of junk! One man's trash is another's treasure. Saw an instrument that was nails stuck into a branch and the guy would hit them with like drum sticks, each had a different tone. I sent 8 american license plates to a guy in pretoria south africa a few months ago, he was going to make them into license plate guitars, made a few of those myself, also cookie tins and many other assorted tins/boxes. They're addicting as hell and so much fun to play! This is a great video on ho to make one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmzvfyOizV8 same guy does one finger lessons to teach people to play them too.

Everyone of them has a unique sound, this one is one of my fav's http://imgur.com/gallery/QZBjOoT That's just a few. I made 2 out of Altoids breath mint tins they're so tiny hahaha I have a coors beer minikeg I was challenged to make one with, maybe I'll have some time this weekend to do that one. I'll try and get more pics up and leave a link on my pg or if you find me on FB I have a bunch of pics there. Made a few with cookie tins, werthers original tins, got another 3 stringer fretted this time just waiting on a nut and strings. So much soul in such simple instruments B-) I have a bread loaf pan with a fat dowel for a neck, one stringer. I think that's going to a guy that comes in to the dump every saturday, he's been asking me for one. I'm even considering a contest on here where the prize is a cbg, I build them for next to nothing, only thing shipping may be expensive outside the US. Thanks Ed

Love this stuff!! I could never play the delta blues very well on my 6 strings, take a few away and... ;) I'll check out some of Clutch's bluseier stuff, I've heard some of their metal. There's alot of this style on you tube, mostly just the guitar solo. I tried that and it felt like it was missing something.

I absolutely love the tone of that guitar. Its a maple neck, oak fretboard (fretless) a wooden cigar box with neck through body and a humbucker pick up from my Ibanez Gio, which got a new V* Ibanez pickup, Earnie Ball 9 gauge strings played with a medium wall glass slide. Everyone of them has a unique sound but this is my fav! I find this style very soothing. I love how the guitar alone can tell a tale. I was just going to have the guitar alone like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qcn3WbidU8I but really liked how the drums and bass glued it all together, I play to a drum groove to keep time. Thanks Nelson

Aww yeah..

I'm in love with the South, it's music has such an eldritch quality to it. Beautiful to my ears and you capture it like a swampy baws.

Low, slow and dark, I wish my brain could calm down and make some down-tempo darkness like this, teach me master.

Of course Lovecraft comes to mind, The Call Of Cthulhu, the section where the detective and his men interrupt the "voodoo" gathering.. The sounds in distant, the lurking fear. Yes.

So much emotion in music from south, being so rich in history. I love the ghostly, melancholic tone of the lone cigar box guitar playing. That's where these cigar box guitars originated, there and with the mountain people, people too poor to afford instruments so they made them. LOL! 'master' *blushes* Funny, before I came home and recorded this I was listening to some very fast paced black metal, there's only a few bands in that genre I really like 3:D> This song in particular https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qcn3WbidU8I fkn LOVE this stuff!! Just play/compose what your soul tells you, concious thought fks it all up, if I think I fk up. Fast, slow whatever comes out,let the music tell you where it wants to go. If you brain says play fast, just go with it :p Sometimes I play fast but seems the slower darker stuff really gets me going! My Dying Bide (older stuff) always gets me inspired. All improv, bass was done in one take. I hit record and played along. Guitar took 3 takes cuz I kept hitting some wrong notes when I slid way up and I hate editing!! I need to do some more Lovecraft themed stuff, I smell a collab ;) I have the rats in the walls on my player. The doom that came to Saranath is another good one or the music of Erik Zahn. Bowed cigar box guitar would make a great violin substitute. I wonder what bowed banjo would sound like, have to try it. Slide banjo is neat but I keep hitting the frets because of the low action.
