Yes a very fitting description :p Seems anything I play on that electric 3 string falls into that category ;) My page is an absolute mess!! Any surprise as I'm a cleaner for a living hahahaha. I'm going to delete everything and reupload making it nice and tidy again. I've made and given away a few cds of cigar box guitar music. My co worker played one at work and the guys kept looking at me, this is you? really?? I'm going to set up a band camp account and put up an album for free download as well as on Reverbnation once I figure out how. Joe Cramer put together this one of collabs we've done, not all is cbgs but should hold you over. https://www.reverbnation.com/1096781/album/117064 Always a pleasure Ed, stay tuned for more, new one up today.

Loving the fx!

Guitar is also really good, it also has a pretty solid drum pattern.

Overall a nice track from you phat.

I get alot of fx from freesound or record stuff myself. I love the depth it can add to songs. Guitar is my homemade 3 string electric cigar box guitar, yep made from a cigar box ;) Thanks Fl4zh

Stuck on the river as the ice wells up the sides of my boat. Too warm now, Can´t even go Ice fishing yet. Never seen a January like this in Ottawa. Feels like March. Song fits the blues we are feeling not being able to skate down the rideau canal yet.
Emotive and awesome as usual Burt.

Thanks Steve, your favorite guitar again hahaha It is one warm January! I don't remember it being this warm in a long time, was wondering if you guys were as warm being a bit further north. Have the zombies made it up there yet? I heard about some kids falling through the ice where I used to live, they're fine, but that river froze every year and people would use it as a shortcut to get intown, not this year!

Very well done Burt
This is truely something in a style i love.
And it cries in me ears for some deep dark and warm vocals.
the sound of your new CBG creation is excellent.
We should do something in this style when we do our next collab

stay tuned

I definitely want to record more like this. I'll send you the stems for this to play with, I was thinking vocals be cool addition. In the next few days I'll try and get more recordings done as well. My newest one I need to change the bridge to a thinner bolt to lower the action, works great for slide but I get sharp notes when fretting them. Watch for some stems :p

Going very well Jamid thanks :D Now if I can just find more music time!! Enthralling is a perfect description. cbgs seem to have that effect on people, especially when played slow like telling a tale. I love this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz5wMGovkuQ

Great composition. You really captured the essence of the art sonically. You can almost see the water rippling as pieces of ice slide down into the depths.

Been so busy lately I haven't done much music. I had Martin Luther King day off and came across Dan's art composition which I usually participate in. Winter is the theme this time so I had to blow the dust of my cbg and play a little something :p I love the way those guitars can tell a tale all on their own! Thanks TA I trying to do one for a pic from the dust bowl era, not for any competition, just for fun. Pictures have a way of inspiring audio tales.

Such a haunting and hypnotic sound. I really got lost in this track.... my mind just went wandering. It was awesome. Well done! :)

It was done for an abstract ghostly pic of a guy in a garden holding an acoustic guitar, I love how haunting it came out. I got lost in it just playing! These cbgs can tell a tale drawing you in all on their own. Thanks srob :p

Sexy, hypnotic and mysterious... these are 3 words that people might use to describe me. However, this song is bad ass! Makes you want to walk into a gritty western bar, order a whiskey and glare cooly at the locals as you pick your next gunfight victim.
It will also work well with a joint, a comfy recliner chair and El Topo playing on the TV. Awesome stuff.

Both scenarios sound exciting ;) I guess this could fit under blues, country or even folk. I like the hill blues which combines all three. I find cbgs to be quite hypnotyzing to listen to people playing, LOVE em! Thanks TA

Doom blues ;) The bendiness comes from playing with a slide on the fretless guitar. Thanks Trippy Hippy!

Addictive drums. Very good quality drum kit! Did you add any effects to it like compression or reverb?

Best,

I played the guitar through Guitar rig 5, I think it was atmospheric guitar setting. The project is on my desktop, I'll have to look what I did, but I think I left everything pretty raw.

That guitar man! That seems to be the shining quality in this one. This is a cigar box guitar?! Really has a haunting tone to it - just like I know you love :p What did you use for the drums?

Brado
Burtsbluesboxes
Burtsbluesboxes replied 1st Jan 2017 - 8 years ago
Cigar box guitar with a handmade maple neck, oak fretboard, tuners salvaged from an old Yamaha acoustic, a humbucker pickup from an Ibanez guitar with Earnie Balls strings, played using a glass slide. The nut is a piece of threaded rod, some bolt I found and cut to length, string trees are just screws, the bridge is a piece of brass rod from a sink drain stopper with a spoon for a string anchor/tail piece. This is my favorite one and first built using a magnetic pickup. Been using piezo pickups in them all but this one. I believe the drums are addictive drums.

Hey Katz, yeah man I'm just now getting to the Halloween tracks and find you and I both took a similar direction this year. Certain blues can be pretty haunting and you nailed the vibe here for sure. Some really sweet slide bro, The guitar sounds awesome, and great job with the bass and drums as well. The Doom Blues are happnin, this Halloween !

Thanks Orlando, they all have such a unique sound. Amazing such simple instruments can sound so good and you play these fretless with only one finger (with a slide). I have one made from an Altoids breath mints tin I need to record, but it's difficult to play being so tiny hahaha I was watching some you tube videos of people playing cigar box guitars in similar style, no drums or bass backing, just love the atmosphere they can create! This one just seemed too lonely and needed a bit of company. I have a 3 string fretted one to string up and try, maybe I'll have time this weekend to do that.

Nothing makes me happier than sharing these :D I've given a number of these guitars away and you should see people's smile when they get one! The sound is amazing from each one. This one is my first only electric, got a pick up out of my Ibanez Gio which got an upgrade. I use a contact mic in the others so they're acoustic/electric. Thanks PapaNelson :D

I learned about cigar box guitars about a year ago, HAD to have one!! I'm a handyman by trade so building one was the only acceptable option. They're literally a stick stuck through a box, and as intricate or as simple as you choose to make them. The sounds out of them though :O All my regular guitars and basses have Grumpy cat (the great lord and master) on them, except my 5 string has just paw prints. That's my only cbg with grumpy, the rest typically have really cool artwork so I leave them that way. I saw that pic needing music and immediately said I'll compose for this! Improv playing, like most of my guitar playing. Thanks Wobbin the evil chef, I'll have a very nice supply of trick or treaters for you this year so sharpen up that chainsaw 3:D>
