Sorry to hear about your Dad. Music is a great thing, in so many different ways it can a friend. Glad you are back in the groove.

I couldn't tell you the first thing about Trap but I "caught" myself listening to this a few times. sorry

I would guess that the saw synth is a big deal in Trance, it's out in force. Drums are pounding, which I associate club music to this type of beat. Sounds cool enough to me, especially the softer sounding synth at the end.

Thanks..Music really helps getting al sorted out again. Trance is not my main genre but is good for bringing emotion in dance music. I am glad you liked it!

Drums are perfect ... fantastic . But clap percussion is a little loud and long . Nice trap dance work ... I like it

I like the sound you have achieved here! I too almost expected Joe Cramer's voice to break in with his style of vocals. It stands well on it's own, but I always enjoy this sort of music with lyrics to anchor them. With that in mind, it does remind me a lot of Depeche Mode. That is something to be proud of for sure, as I have heard few that can successfully do that sort of style. Sounds very good throughout! Very cool composition! Fave!

Thanks a lot for the comment! As mentioned below I was occupied teh last time and did not pay attention to music. But now I am back and filled with ideas again :-). I definetly think Joe his voice would be damn good on this one. I might ask him what he thinks about it.

I had to fave this one before I got half way in!
I know the genre for it too.
Umpa Lumpa music.
How the hell you're really supposed to describe this I don't know. Maybe .... unique.
It's dark and I was expecting Joe Kramers voice to pop up at any time. This one I've found quite inspiring.

Thank you very much for your comment. As I heard it sounds a bit like dark wave music. I didnt know it by the time I made this track. I just had a fun time making it :-). Sorry for the late reaction though. Had some family matters which took all of my tiem for teh last 3 months.

Its an interesting song, I would say its in the industrial realm... And yeah very 80´s, if there could be any comparison with other bands... I would say depeche mode, the knife and fever ray...

Thank you for pointing them out. Fever ray made the vikings theme as well. Never knew that. I will check them out some more!

I ain't an expert when genres are in question so I can't say much in which drawer to put it, but I think it even doesn't need a drawer!I will simply call it "tumba-tumba"
for now...haha....but man this is excellent! Your creativity shines....I truly enjoyed this journey packed wit many things....very inventive effort my friend ! It
certainly deserves a 'fav'...so be it !:)

Thanks again Orlando. Tuma-Tumba it is hahaha. I am glad the track did not derail from using too much instruments or vst's. It feels fresh to make something completely different from what I usually make.

Trippy Tune, esp the intro. good mixing, song is missing a groove to glue it all together with it's trippiness. Keep working on this one it's not finished yet.

Well, my ears tell me you did a very good job! I'm not so much of a techy type to be able to give you more detailed advice. I usualy use slight dynamic compression but only when i feel it really works and it's also hard to make comparisons cause I produce quite different sort of music within which the compression actions might well be a mixed bag. All in all, well done my friend!

Well, I can't even come close to giving the kind of technical advice you got from Crucethus. And, I'm the last one who who'll be commenting on how to improve a mix. Mine are usually kind of muddy I think. Its a lot of work to place each instrument in its unique position within the sound spectrum and set pan positions and use reverb etc. to position things in the soundstage. Not to mention ensuring interest through dynamic range. But, if I had any advice it would be to take a look (listen) to the lower frequency range in the track. I think you could clean it up a bit, separating the frequency range for the kick and the bass in particular. There was kind of a continuous "booming" sound and things weren't as clean and distinct as I think they could be. Generally, I liked the track quite a bit, though. I have tried and failed many times to make a track like that. :)

The thing about making music is that the more you learn..the more you realize you know jack ##### about prodcuing hahaha...At least that is what I found out for me. So many things to consider. But after watching a lot of videos and trial and error you become better babyste by babystep. Glad Im not the only one :p

There is a lot to like about this mix. Have you experimented with expanding the pan a little bit and using a lighter Dynamic compression. For example when the "do you wanna dance" kicks on it's great, stereo panned and in your face. But that synth stab comes in and it's just kind of in the center and has no energy compared to that phrasing. (and that's the phrase you want to make you feel the energy of the track. Try splitting the stab and hard panning both channels. On one channel add just a small slight touch of distortion. You will be then emulating a hardware unit we used (back in the day)called an audio exciter. For some reason doing this would brighten the sound and make it more interesting. You made a very nice comment on my latest track "You always know how to maximize the minimal sound"
To create that minimal sound I use a hell of a lot of subtle harmonics and sub sounds and barely audible phrasings and percussions that just push the main theme or melody along.
I do like how you build the percussion in this one. But when you use a synth phrase try using multiple phrasing to create something bigger. Even take that synth stab and raise it a third or a fifth (chord structure) and pan it right lower in the mix and you will hear something interesting.
Anyhoo, love where you're going with this.

Thanks for your advice. You definetly know how to mixdown a track and can learn from you a lot. I will definetly try out your advice and put it in my track. I am still a beginner when it comes to mixing and your remarks really help me out.

Looking at the waveform the output level is fine M.H
I enjoyed the track, has some good sections and put together very well.I believe it is lacking a little with dynamics in places but that is part of the mix and easily rectified.Sounds a lot cleaner than previous tracks.Take care.

Thank you vbery much for your view on my track. I think you are right with the dynamics on teh track. Still learning how to make the track sound more vivid. But one step at the time :p

I like the track, however, I felt the high pitched reverb/wobble on that synth is a bit 'offbeat' on just that little bit right before the 'falloff' . I really liked the track man keep it up!

While this isn't my preferred style of trance, I can really appreciate what went into it. Mostly, I've just never understood what "progressive" means in regards to music, whether it's progressive trance, rock, or whatever... This is a cool arrangement, with some interesting sounds for sure. I think I'd have to agree about the level of compression or limiting in the final product. It's not too bad, but it could be far more dynamic without losing much loudness. I do like that portamento synth around 2:45... that part especially could benefit from more dynamic range... that would sound very cool. I enjoyed listening! Keep at it!
mudhoen
mudhoen replied 17th Apr 2016 - 10 years ago
Thanks for stopping by. I thought progressive was seemly equal to uplifting but is also used to express experimental in its genre(like progressive rock). I think the arrangement is pretty ok but I just have to learn how to mix down a track. I lack the knowledge and will be learning the upcoming time how to mix down properly. Thanks for pointing it out!

Too compressed. Dial back the compression a bit... don't get me wrong I like things pumpin'... but this is just too much.

hello

this sounds good and the melodies you created are fine. Really nice try in such a short time.

Actually my point regarding to your previous track was about some apparent harmonic disconnection between vocal and instrumental. Also I was upset by so very overcompressed overall mixdown.
The levels on this track are still far too much for me but I guess this is direction music is heading nowadays, correct me if I am wrong. Simply it is not that pleasant to my ears, thats all. Just my prefference.

I do not make proper EDM too much. Maybe it is just a coincidence but I just have uploaded a new House track. Would be interesting to hear your opinions about it.

I downloaded your track to listen properly on speakers and I will eventually return if there will be anything of useful to say later.

Congratulations on this one. Good luck with your music

Everytime when I see your tracks they are so well mixed. I am a novice(at the most) when it comes to mixing down a track. Maybe it would be the next step for me to learn more about mixing a track without the overcompressed sound.

Thanks a lot for your criticism. It helps me finding my weak spots to improve them!
